We Welcome Thee

    Preface:
    This ORP is intended to keep the Flutters united in their story arc, and to help eliminate any misconceptions or misinformation regarding how they live, or their role in the metaplot. Some big things have happened in the Flutter META plot that needs to be discussed.

    Goals of this RP:
  • This RP is to go over the latest Flutter plots such as:
    o Harn freezing over during winter
    o Finding Harn’s real Queen
    o New ‘fozen’ Flutter kids have been found
  • Every Flutter is expected to work and have a job, this will be a follow up to the newest grown Flutters and elders alike to ensure everyone has found their place.
  • Any other updates, concerns, questions that any Flutter may have.

    What is going on?
  • Recently Harn Sheedhiel underwent a deep freeze and all the Flutters within, a sort of hibernation. It was up to Queen Belwen to figure out what was harming the tree and why.
  • During this investigation, some unexpected help was sent to them. Currently no Flutter knows about this bit of info other than the Queen and her Guard.
  • Some new Ice Crystal Flutter kids and a single teen were found during this time and have joined the ranks of Harn. Though they have been integrated into the Flutter family, they will be formally introduced in this fireside.
  • Rumors have been floating around the tree that Harn’s Queen has been found. Some will be shocked to find out its not the Queen they once knew.

    The Timeline
  • This all went down towards the end of winter, just as things were starting to warm up for spring. So timeline wise the new Ice Crystal Flutters have been in the tree for a month, settling in the Nursery and learning about their new life. So those in Harn know them, may have spoke with them a time or two, but perhaps aren't very familiar with them. Those in Farn, this might be their first meeting or glimpse, but they would have heard the news of the new arrivals.
  • Alora would have been seen the least of all. With the conditions she was kept in she would have needed time to recover plus time to learn from Belwen who she was. The only ones that may know her a bit better would be Harn's Seed Tenders since she'd be visiting her Ice Crystal kids whenever she could.

    How to participate
  • Respond to Belwen's prompts, or
  • Interact with each other in the context of this RP's subject.

    When?
    Starts now! We are hoping to have Belwen's announcements wrapped up within the week. Once she’s done you’re welcome to mingle and RP with the other Flutters to your heart’s content.

Additional Notes
  • All flutters should know or know of every other flutter in their colony at least. These colonies are small still.
  • Every new flutter, including those that are introduced as an adult, is to assume that the Seed Tenders of their tree raised them as grubs. No exceptions unless authorized by Antidia.
  • All new flutters that are introduced at the adult stage are to assume they went through a growing ceremony.
  • All Flutters have a Gudi. Contact Antidia or Irish Night Fox to get a gudi animal assigned.
    • Gudi are special whistle-type instruments that Flutters use to communicate long distances.
    • They're whittled by the Elder Sentinel, Lisian, guided by the trees themselves and given to a Flutter at their growing ceremony.
    • They're given to the Flutter at their growing ceremony and represent their qualities in animal form
    • It can't be heard by any other than the flutters. When a Flutter hears it, they immediately know what flutter used it and where they are located
  • All flutters know the Druids because they are the healers and should be taking care of the colonies over-all wellbeing.
  • All flutters are familiar with the sentries and scouts.
  • Every Flutter has a job. If they don't pick one, Belwen or Alora will assign it. Belwen has a sense of humor, but no tolerance for lazy, so be careful if you leave it up to her.
  • Only authorized flutters are allowed to leave the clearing.
      Unauthorized flutters accept that they have to be careful about being seen by strangers.
  • The two colonies have a friendly rivalry going, but will still support each other.
  • Any questions? We are happy to help. We are all here to have fun and build up this tiny world to get them ready for the big one.

Updates to the setting Remember, Flutters do not know this, only players do. Please do not break the 4th wall with this information.
    With Vanya aiding in the rescue of Queen Alora, this cleared up the connection between Laisidhiel and her daughter trees. So communication has been opened with the Faun tree, so some of the Faun cultures might start to slip into Flutter culture. The colony is still closed off to outsiders, but this connection is a big jump in setting up the expansion of the Flutter world.

While the Harn Flutters would have missed it completely, the Winter season proved to be quite exciting. Harn Sheedhiel, the Southern tree, underwent a tremendous transformation. The true queen had come of age and emerged from her chrysalis while trapped in a root. The poor dear was born and in her exploration, became trapped in of her tree’s roots. She spent her entire childhood cold, alone and in complete darkness. She knew nothing of the outside world. She is the Harn avatar, so she should have naturally had the tree to talk to.

But Indelwen, as the first and only seed of Harn, inherited control of the tree, believing that she was the true queen. No one knew any different, not even Belwen, the Queen of Forn Sheedhiel. They grew up together and harvested the first seeds to create their two colonies. A friendly rivalry even emerged between the two colonies.

It happened all of sudden all at once. The once silent Harn Sheedhiel screamed out in pain. It wailed and cried, bringing Belwen to her knees. She could feel the pain and panic emanating from her sister tree. To the rest of Belwen’s tree, all were cold and instructed to stay inside until the weather warmed. To them, Belwen fell sick and they didn’t know what to do.

The Flutter trees are young, and still not as tall as they will be. But Flutters have the unique ability to change their size to accommodate their dwelling’s size. Inside the trees, Flutters are barely a few inches tall. A normal pae could never fit into one of the trees. A walnut-colored woman with green hair and peaceful blue eyes tapped on their little doors. She knelt in front of the main door, which to a normal pae was hidden from sight. She was there to see Belwen.

“Your mother has sent me to find you. I can feel your pain and sorrow and the panic and fear of your sister. I have sent for the One that I know can help. Harn needs you! She needs comfort and your presence can ease the pain.”

Belwen and her lead sentry rushed South, to Harn. They encountered the one that the stranger had sent to help them. Both were shocked to find the very pae that they had named as an enemy. Along the way, they encountered another Pae that had been sent to help. The blind Seer of Laisidhiel. Her vision, the angel’s powers, and Belwen’s presence freed the long trapped Queen of Harn Sheedhiel. She had emerged from her chrysalis and was simply too big for the small space she occupied as a grub.

Harn had reacted to the trapped Alora’s presence and newly gained magic and so created six seeds. Just as Belwen had her six seeds. They are the first seeds ever hatched in Winter.

Alora and her young circle were taken to Forn so they could rest. Belwen has tutored Alora to prepare her to take over her own tree. Those in Forn have given her the nickname Ice Princess. The Ice Flutters adjusted to their new lives while in the warmth and safety of Forn Sheedhiel.

As for Harn Sheedhiel, the tree thawed and the inhabitants came back to life, not knowing anything that had happened. They were out for the whole Winter season

~~~----~~~
Another amazing outcome happened. The stranger that had been labeled an enemy, with some colorful words from Belwen, was now a friend of Flutters. The lady with the green hair and blue eyes had helped Belwen see beyond the trees in a way that she had not expected. While still in its infancy, Belwen is building a relationship with the outsider.
As for the Seer of Laisidhiel, one of the young ice flutters imprinted on her. Mother, Harn, and Forn had said it was okay for the young one to live with the faun. This will open new possibilities in the future!
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.The crisp Spring air brought a sense of renewal across the Clearing. The fresh smells of a new season filled the air. It was a beautiful, sunny day and perfect for the first Fireside of the new year.
"Welcome everyone to our Spring Fireside! It has been quite the Winter for a lot of us. As you may know, Harn has undergone tremendous change over the past season. Harn Flutters, welcome! I hope your adjustment has gone well since your thaw. I'd love to hear from any of you about your experience during that turbulent experience. A big thank you goes to Harn Druids, Marigold, and Mazarine, as well as Forn Druid Delyth. They worked tirelessly to bring everyone back to health quickly. Alora and I can't thank you enough! We love and appreciate our Druids, and as our colonies grow, we find ourselves in need of more dedicated healers. I ask that any of you that have developed healing powers to consider apprenticing to become a Druid.
As the weather warmed and the island came back to life for Spring, we find ourselves with lots to do! We have many jobs that need to be done, so I want all of you young, fresh adults to find yourself something to do in order to contribute to our success."
While Belwen addressed the flutters for the Spring Fireside, a sense of pride and accomplishment swelled up inside. The faces that gazed back her were all responsible for helping the colonies flourish. She couldn't be happier!
"Our big, major announcement is that Harn's Queen has been found. I'd like to formally welcome Queen Alora." Belwen reached an arm out to the timid teen to encourage her to stand beside her. The Forn Queen told the tale of the rescue (see summary above),
The five little frozen seedlings were all resting at the front of the gathered Flutters and Belwen had each one of them move up to rest beside their Queen. "They have been healing in Forn since their rescue, and our Seed Tenders Paradise and Lillian have been working closely to acclimate them. Today they will be following Queen Alora and moving back to Harn."
Belwen turned to address the young queen, "You are welcome any time, and if you need help or just need anything, send someone. I, as well as all the Elders of both trees, are here to protect and support you. Sweet girl, I know you are ready for this!" She opened her arms and offered a warm hug to Alora.
"I want to introduce our special ice seeds. We once thought it was impossible for seeds to grow in the winter season, but they have shown differently. We believe they were born of Alora's magic and are here to protect and serve her as her circle.
.... circle? Belwen paused considering where that term might have come from. Forn was whispering to her as she spoke. Over the past few seasons, Harn and Forn have been speaking to her, echoing Laisidhiel's memories.
[Their Faun heritage and connection the Great Tree has been shining through as the colony grows. The original 6 Forn Flutters are Belwen's Circle. Indilwen's Circle will remain Elders in positions of leadership and influence, but Alora will have her own circle. More to come as the Flutters discover what has happened.]
"Firenze, Amihan, Eira, Mie and Skoll, we all welcome you, and are good to finally meet you! There is so much to learn and so much to experience now, and we're so happy to share it all with you.
We do have some sad news. Indilwen's whereabouts are still unknown. And now that we have found the true Queen of Harn, we still need to investigate what happened. To her Elders, I ask that you remain strong, and accept Alora as your queen. She is kind and loving and will watch over you as I do. She will lead you, as I have, and please know in your hearts that she will lead Harn to succeed and flourish. Your best interest is always at the heart of everything we do."
Belwen's wings fluttered with excitement. This was a new beginning and she was so excited to move forward with Alora and to teach and mentor her.
"Before I open up discussion, I'd like to remind everyone that Spring is a busy season and we need all Flutters working. Now is the time to choose your mentors to prepare for the future. Any Flutters that have not chosen a job will be assigned one. And not to be a downer on this beautiful day, but we do need someone to handle the garbage and cleaning." Belwen took a pointed glance towards Shaylee. "Is there anything anyone else would like to say?"
~.~
The floor is now open for any Flutter to stand and make mention of anything they would like to discuss. Seed Tenders can talk about the state of the nurseries or mention the status of any seeds. Water Gathers can talk about the ease or difficulty of gathering water or any issues that have come up. Findings, happenings, and anything of note are welcome. I encourage everyone to take initiative and create situations your Flutter might have been involved in. This does not have to be something that was role-played previously. Things like, "We saw another stranger wander in the clearing and I watched them do this thing" sort of stuff is okay. This is your chance to create a scene and a story for your Flutter. You also do not have to do this if you do not feel inspired right now.
Let's expand the Flutter world!
Having spent most of her time alone, this gathering was the most Pae she’d ever been around. She could feel her heart racing in her chest and the hot blood pumping in her ears. It was all she could do to keep from running back into Forn. What would they think when they found out she had struggles speaking? Let alone looking others in the eye?
Belwen had warned her of how the meeting would go. She knew she’d be standing in front of them shortly, but even with that knowledge she felt like she might just explode. She clenched her hands in front of her, taking in deep breathes like Belwen had taught her. She employed every lesson for mind calming that she could, but still, her heart and mind raced. Those terrible dark thoughts that haunted her nights since she left her root cage. Between the nightmares of still being in that place she has this gnawing fear. This fear of not fitting in, of these Flutters not accepting her, of not being good enough. Who was she anyways? Just a Pae stepping up and claiming to be their Queen? She wouldn’t blame them if they didn’t want her.
In the back of her mind she felt that stirring. Instantly warmth spread through her. Harn Sheedhiel. The one who had been with her through it all, other than Belwen. She took another deep breath and felt its peace spread through her. She could do this, she had to do this. If she didn’t overcome her fears who would take care of them? She’d been given a duty, a great one. She held her chin high as Belwen called to her and she came to the other’s side. She mustered her best smile to the group, feeling her limbs go limp and her stomach flip flopping. She gave them a half bow of greeting, keeping quiet as Belwen spoke.
She turned her head towards Belwen as the other spoke, her cheeks flushing in the warmth of her praise. She had to look away and sniffle back tears. Tears of gratitude, fear, uncertainty, love, a whole range of emotions all settling on her at once. She was taking huge steps here, but to know this other would always be her biggest supporter just overwhelmed the young teen. She practically flung herself into the other’s arms, “Thank you… Belwen.” She choked softly her words slow in coming, “Can… never thank you… enough.”
She pulled away to allow the other to finish her speech. When Belwen mentioned the ice kids Alora’s eyes shone as she looked each and every one of them over. There was a special place in her heart for them, a sort of motherly love washing over her as she beamed brightly in pride at their introduction to the members. It had been her greatest joy to see them growing into such sweet, diverse kids.
As Belwen opened the floor, Alora knew it was her turn. She swallowed hard and tried to focus on her words. She still struggled with speech, but Belwen’s ever patient nature had really helped the young one flourish, “It is…. nice to meet all… of you.” It was slow coming out, but she managed to keep her eyes lifted and on them. “Officially.” Many she had been working closely with like the Druids for her healing and the Seed Tenders to see her little ice family. Others in passing, but she wasn’t unfamiliar with any. She clasped her hands in front of her, trying to remember to breathe, “I look… Forward… to all the hard work… and future together.”
"I know many of you may have noticed, but we do have a guest today. Lady Vanya of Laisidhiel has joined us. She may be an outsider, but she is a friend to the Flutters. I know it may be hard to believe or accept, but she is trustworthy. Our little Durion here has imprinted on her, and in order to keep him connected to his world, but still remain with the one he's bonded to, we've agreed to let him go with her. This is something we should have done sooner." She looked towards Xuilan with apologetic eyes. "This is a big step! But if we are to live harmoniously and grow, we need friends and to make peace with the outsiders."
"The incident over the Winter had changed many of us, including me. I know change is hard, but we can do it together! We can take small steps, but we can do this." Belwen's encouragement was meant for herself as well because this type of change was hardest on her.
"Vanya, would you mind introducing yourself to the colonies?"
When the ceremony had seemed about to start, Vanya had chuckled and sent little Durion to sit with the other flutter children, hoping he would behave himself at least for the ceremony and not cause a scene. He seemed to be getting a bit better about being separated from her for short periods of time and having the other children to play with as long as 'Mom' was nearby had seemed to do wonders. As it were, she was trying to hang back and not be a disruption to the ceremony either, though she could practically feel the curious and wary stares that were being aimed in her direction from some of the Clearing residents. Understandable, given what she had been told about the flutters and their secluded nature of their society. It also added all the more weight to her understanding of what it meant that she had been asked to observe, let alone speak.
After Queen Belwen's introduction, she stepped forward to speak, directing a polite nod towards the brightest aura of the Queen before turning to the largest concentration of glowing auras in her Sight. "Thank you, Queen Belwen. I am quite honored to be here and allowed to witness your ceremony today. As your Queen has stated, I am Lady Vanya, Seer of the Faun of Laisidhiel." Oof, what a weighty title, but this was an important occasion and where else was one supposed to use such fancy words?
She decided to expand a bit on where she came from to try to answer some of the questioning shifts happening in the auras of those before her. "Faun are what my kind call ourselves and we too live in a tree, a great Tree on the other side of the Isle named Laisidhiel. There are many of my kind there, and as Seer, I serve as a guide and counselor to those who live within the Great Tree. Durion has been living there with me, learning of faun life, but he needs to learn about his own culture as well. I hope this will be a great opportunity for him to spend time with other flutters and share stories with any others who wish to listen."
She smiled, taking a short breath. "I do not wish to take up any more of your ceremony, but if anyone wishes to speak with me later, they may. For now, please, proceed," and she nodded her head in a polite half-bow towards Queen Belwen before stepping back to the side, out of the way and returning the 'floor' to the flutters.
Firenze wiggled and looked around. They had come to retrieve the frozen seeds a bit earlier and she had been standing in the same spot for what felt like an eternity. It also wasn't as warm as the nursery. The nurses and nannies tended to keep it a bit warmer there cause of some lil paetipillar tendency to find warmer hiding spots. Like stranger's bed covers
The laundry room.
The kitchens.
Firenze sighed wearily at the thought of the kitchen ovens. Her mind drifted as the talking of the elders turned into a drone of nonsense.
The kitchen fires were wonderful. They were so warm. Always so endearing. She tried to sneak off to them as much as possible. Unfortunately, her nannies had gotten wise to most of her antics and she hadn't been recently. She missed the scent of bread and the feeling of heat that seared her almost to the bone.
Oh crap. The lady in black was talking. Tanya, she believed they said. She wasn't real sure. She only caught the tail end of it. Which meant she hadn't noticed anything before that point either. Jusy her errant thoughts about the hearths of the kitchen. She shivered as she returned to reality and the slightly colder room they had amassed in.
Her eyes focused back on the woman in red and grew wide in astonishment as she continued her speech. She had brought her brother!! She hadn't seen him since her first few days awake. Oh, the hole in her heart ached with his loss as it would with any of her family.
Eyes darting around, she quickly noticed her brother and gave a squeal of excitement. "DURION!!" Before leaping over a few of the other paetipillars and colliding with a dark mass of blues and black. "I missed you so much!!!" She stage whispered, wrapping her little arms around him and squeezing him tight.
Turning to the lady in red, she smiled real big and said "Thank you...." She leaned her mouth toward durion ear without taking her eyes off of Manya(?) and again stage whispered "what's her name again?"
Mie was content to sit among the other Ice seed paeterpillers. He was with his family and he could see his queen. Although she was kind of hiding behind the other queen.
Belwin was okay, in Mie's opionion, she helped Alora and that is all that mattered.
Mie Grummbled as Frize walked over him in an attempt to get to Durian. "Watch where you put your feeets!" He made a grumpy face at her before turning back to the meeting.
Mie wiggled in place as Alora introduced herself. He gave a little clap at the end of her speech. That is what you do right? clap??
He turned to look at the crowd eyes narrowing as he scanned them looking for anyone who would dare be rude to Alora. He would defend her no matter what!
Who cares if they where adults and older than him! If they say she isn't queen they are wrong!
Oh the weird lady who brought Durian was speaking, she was from a tree to? Why didn't she have wings? How did she get inside without them? Where they INVISIBLE WINGS.
Oh thank Forn the winter was over - Delyth was never a fan of the colder months, but these had seen even worse still. Even her Queen... it still hurt that there had been little she'd been able to offer her in her time of sickness. Healing was her job, and to that extent, she felt her incompetence deeply. There was no way of knowing for the druid that there was simply nothing within her power that could have been done to alleviate this, that it was the pain of Harn rather than than illness.
She hadn't even known her Queen had left, not til her return...
Standing quietly in the back, Delyth offered a weary smile towards Belwen as she was mentioned. Yes, it had been... a difficult season, that was to be sure. Between caring for the health of the sudden influx of new hatchlings and little Princess Alora to her regular duties to helping Marigold and Mazarine with theirs as Harn thawed... frankly she'd hadn't a full night's rest in some time. The presence of a number of dark circles under her eyes betrayed her insistence that all was fine. But for now, she continued to hold up well enough.
Delyth offered a side-eye at their 'guest,' not having much of a reason to be trusting of her at this point, as she spoke. She was some awkward combination of weary and frightened by someone that was so clearly not one of them here at their meeting. While she trusted her Queen unconditionally... who knew if this so-called 'faun' was simply pulling the wool over her eyes, waiting for the right moment to do harm. There was no degree of logic that would rewrite this instinctive response. Even if young Durion had imprinted on her... well, a new-hatch could imprint on anyone - that alone wasn't enough to prove her to be trustworthy. Surely even Belwen could have an err of judgement?
Delyth fidgeted with her hands as she glanced away and down at them, a cold wave of anxiety and nausea rushing up her spine.
Oh no... What was she doing doubting her Queen?
No wonder she'd failed in her duties if she couldn't do something as simple as believing. But even so... she just couldn't quell this fear. She just couldn't understand how this outsider could possibly be here with honest intentions, not after all this time. Or perhaps she simply didn't want to try and understand. Not yet, at least. It was far too soon to expect something like that of her.
Amihan was sitting up in the front with the other kids, looking around as he flexed his little feet. This was a big ol' new situation for him, and even though he'd had some knowledge of it happening beforehand, the stimulation of it all was enough to make him anxious. He rocked back and forth a bit as he looked around, many of the faces familiar, many less familiar.
Oh, a new lady was talking. He didn't know her. Frowning, he looked away from the center where the discussion was taking place to look for his nannies. Where were they? He wanted Lillian or Paradise or Idalusia right now...
Oh oh oh! 'lora was out! She was always the prettiest of all the flutters! He liked her white hair and eyes and how her wings were the shiniest.
Mie was clapping? Were you supposed to clap? Amihan didn't know that! With a blink, he looked forward and threw his all into clapping along. And continued to clap right through Vanya's speech and passed the end of it. Really, he was probably going to keep doing this until someone told him to stop.
User ImageAnthias couldn't remember ever having a busier day. Seemed like everyone wanted water and wanted it right now. She couldn't really blame them, though. She was also excited for the Fireside. Being relatively low on the totem pole, she wasn't privy to all the juicy details. But rumor had it that this Fireside was going to come with some big news and she was so there for it.
Navarchus, the self-styled "Head of Decoration & Party Planning", was beside himself and had been continually hounding her to hound everyone she delivered water to to step up their game. The kitchens need to make more cakes and tarts. The shapers need to coax more plants into seating and tables. More flowers. More glitter. More everything. He'd even tried to convince her to talk the Queen into using her powers to help decorate. At that, Anthias had finally put her hoof down. Normally a very easy-going flutter, she actually lost her patience and told him in no uncertain terms that she was not, in fact, on his committee and, besides, as the Head, it was his duty to make important arrangements like that. Leaving him in open-mouthed shock, she beat a hasty retreat and scooted out to the clearing to scope out a good spot to sit with her friends. Serrani probably wasn't out there, yet, but Calanthe might be. So busy with her task, she almost didn't notice the stranger in their midst. Who (and frankly, what) was that? Unable to stop herself, she sort of just sat wherever she happened to be and stared at the faun even after introductions were made.
User ImageAnthias had been absolutely correct on both points. He had pretty much just conscripted her for her social network and he could admit, at least very quietly to himself, that he was being a smidge overbearing. He just wanted everything to look nice and be special for the Fireside. The "color balls" the Queen could make would make lovely baubles; some nice splashes of color around The Tree and in with the flowers.
After what he felt was a thorough dressing down from Anthias, Nav entered the clearing himself at a much slower pace, encouraging flowers to bloom their biggest and brightest along the way while he thought about how to phrase his request. By the time he got to where everyone was gathering, he had it all planned out. He was going to say, 'Pardon me, Your Majesty, but I was wondering if you might like to add to the decorations'. Simple, to the point..perfect. But he was so completely knocked for a loop by Vanya's presence that what actually came out of his mouth was, "ExcusemeQueenBelwenbutcouldyoupleasepleasepleasemakesomecolororbstoputupwiththeotherdecorations?"
To say Lillian was having a bad hair day was an understatement. Right before they gathered someone had come up behind her and ran his honey covered hands up her hair suddenly giving her a lovely punk mohawk she had no time to wash out. The home made googly eyes slapped on the side just added insult to. This was for the glitter bucket over the hatchey door wasn't it? Either way she'd be getting Hyperion back later. She wondered if she should ask her Queen how to up her prank game with the Harn flutter.
Lillian was both proud of the new Queen and the little surprise seedlings but she was sad to see them go back to Harn. Though it wasn't too bad, Hyperion would still be needed help after all and Forn had three seed tenders now with Idalusia settling into her chosen role nicely. There was a good chance they'd still get to see the little icey ones.
She listened closely to her Queen's words and couldn't help but let out a small giggle when Belwen looked to Shaylee with the comment about jobs. Oooh she couldn't even imagine what jobs Belwen would choose for someone. A lesson for the young ones? Another point to ask her Queen to give a little push to the young ones to pick their own path in their trees.
The stranger was familiar yes so alien to her. Her Queen seemed to trust her fully or she would not be here. If her Queen trusted then she'd also cautiously trust her. This was a lot of information to take in though. Faun. Laisidhiel. So there were more? Did they all look so weird? Hmmm...She needed to think about everything.
Lillian's attention was brought back to the little ones and she smiled proudly. Winter seeds...Would Forn start producing her own winter seeds as well? Oh that would be exciting.
Though the Firesides were an incredibly important time, it always had him on edge to have them all so exposed. His Queen had come up with clever ways to help with the security of their home, but it always helped to have a good pair of eyes along with it. Every now and again he’d meet the eyes of the other sentinels and got a motion of all good from them. Each time it brought some relief to his heart. They’d had such a rough winter, they didn’t need them to be taken from them as well.
You’d think he’d be side eyeing the newcomer or paying special attention to her, but he instead regarded her as the rest of the group. Yes, it had taken some time and the comforting words of his Queen to bring his guard down some. If anything, he definitely felt better around her than the other. It wasn’t just the general anatomy reminding him of his own kind, but also this presence she carried- this aura she emitted. It just felt like everything was ok.
Either way, she was a welcomed guest, which meant he had more important things to keep his eyes on. Once the initial reports were spoken he stepped forward to give his own. He’d leave some of the finer details to his team, but for now, “Queen Belwen has come up with some clever security measures that we have been testing for awhile now. It’s one of the reasons we were tipped off to the newcomers.” Well, that and the visit from the mysterious woman. The woman who somehow bypassed their security and sentries- as if she had appeared out of no where. It still boggled him. They were certainly blessed she came as a warning and not more. She was another one that emitted a kind of aura that said it was alright… Where were all these beings coming from?
“We’re proud to say it was a success and we will continue to test and push them to their limits.” He wrapped it up smoothly and sent a nod to the rest of his team, giving them the heads up they could share any of their own reports now.
The ever busy Nova finally released the fit of laughter she had been holding through the whole thing and finally just couldn’t help herself anyone. She slapped Lillian on the shoulder, “What happened to you!?” she wailed, brushing tears from her eyes. Oh man, it was soooo good!
Once she noticed that all eyes were on her she perked up immediately in fright, “Ah!” she squeaked. Well, guess she better report in, “Some of the branches were hurt during the heavy frost, but nothing we Menders couldn’t handle!” fist pump to the air. “Its taken everything a bit longer to wake up this year, but it's getting better every day. Nothing is damaged enough to cause a long lasting issue. No worries!” she bounced happily.
Calanthe had been so busy with spring planting that she'd not really noticed anything new or different. She'd heard the murmurings around the Tree, and of course her friends chatted about it after working hours were finished. Perhaps it was because she was a relative newcomer to Forn Sheedhiel, or perhaps it was because her head was in the dirt--occupied with thoughts of strawberries, forget-me-nots, and bee balm. But she just didn't grasp the magnitude of what was going on until the Fireside.
She showed up almost late (got lost in thought while gardening, and still had to bathe before being presentable at Fireside) and slid onto a log bench next to Anthias. "Whew--made it!" Her hair was still dripping a little but at least she wasn't covered in soil. She noticed that Anthias was staring, and turned her attention to the dais.
Wait, that Faun was familiar...
Calanthe, too, was now rapt with attention. What was going on? Why was the Faun Seer here? She hung on Queen Belwen's every word, and suddenly all the gossip was thrown into context. Harn's Queen! "Wow," breathed Calanthe, now staring at Queen Alora. She was so small and shy, which was exactly how Calanthe herself felt when she first arrived here. She smiled warmly as the new Queen spoke, hoping that her encouragement would be felt from afar.
When Queen Belwen introduced Vanya, Calanthe patted Anthias' knee without looking at her. "I know her," she said quietly.
