SoA Species: CC Mane Body Color: Espresso Mane Hair/Tail Color: mahogany
Their Story:
War.
It was inevitable and it robbed you of everything that you once held dear. Like Ash in your mouth, everything good, crumbles away, leaving you gasping. Night after night he relived the battles that he had survived, because he wouldn't call what he did today living. Wandering alone, he was a ghost in a shell.
That was his legacy. A Guardian long forgotten, he wanders the lands alone, his body worn and beaten, but still showing that he was once a mighty foe for all to fear. His feats of strength had not been enough to save those had had held close, so he forced himself to leave his family home and become a paw for hire.
Assassinations were seemingly the common thing other's wanted him hired as, but he'd turn them down as he was done with killing. A paid body guard was more to his liking so he became the shield to those that needed it most, payment or not. He had once loved the thrill of battle, the glory of coming home victorious. Now he just wanted to give back to the world in the only way he knew how.
He remembered once a young cub had asked him what had happened to him and he wasn't sure how to answer; the tip of his ear torn and tattered, his face littered with reminders of close calls, the rest of him in similar disarray. Turning towards her he had told her this was what it took to create a free world. Though, he wasn't even sure if he believed the words that came from his mouth.
While he looked like a fierce warrior he truly had kind eyes, softly colored and easy to lose one's self in. Why he had been so good at his job. With those soft, kind eyes, he would captivate the women and children and then slaughter them. Nightmare's that haunted him to this very day. It had all been done in the sake of war.
So that made it okay, right?
He knew that wasn't true, but it was what he had to tell himself to keep from going mad.

SoA Species: Lion (CC gender) Mane Body Color: black Mane Hair/Tail Color: medium pink
Their Story:
Once upon a time, there was a lioness named Mittere and a lion named Facio. They were from the same litter of five cubs, but only these two survived to adulthood. They fought, constantly. One thought of it as training. The other was determined to finally kill the first.
They lived in a pride of sorts, a group of mercenaries who would sell their services to any group that needed a set of ferocious fighters. So the constant battle between the siblings was acceptable and roused no curiosity in the adults.
But someone else watched them. Someone else, born into the pride the same as these two, watched day after day as one tried to kill the other. Watched as one beat the other handily, never seeming to know the deadly danger they'd been in.
This observer was, as is the nature of all prides, loosely related to the combatants. A distant cousin, and younger by more than enough moons to ensure they'd only ever be a tagalong until adulthood rendered them all equal.
But...that never happened. The pride took a comission. It went well...until the enemy decided to target their very best; Mittere. They pursued her into the scrubland and the desert beyond before returning and claiming her death. Facio had also vanished in the fighting, though the pride elders were less concerned with his loss. The pride itself was broken and fractured in ways it would never recover from.
And the cousin? The cousin was still subadult, still not yet old enough to have a say. The cousin doubted the enemy could do what Facio had failed to again and again. But they were not free to leave as he had been, nor would they even begin to know where to look. Or what to say, should they find her.
So, the cousin remained with their birth pride, but the massive defeat changed things. No longer could the mercenaries pick and choose their comissions. No longer was their reputation flawless. And, perhaps there were simply fewer wars needing their services. It became harder and harder to find work, and a group of lions who had never before needed to support themselves on their own became mean and embittered.
This...this was not what they had been raised to. Not what they wanted from life. Not what Mittere had been poised to lead them to.
Mittere must have survived, all those years ago. And, knowing her, she would have made a home for herself, and such a home! The cousin would find it. See it. And leave behind the shattered remains of the pride that had birthed them all.

Rennekae SoA Species: Hyena Mane Body Color: CC Mane Hair/Tail Color: CC Their Story: She doesn't remember. She woke with the midday sun beating mercilessly down on her. She was emaciated, dehydrated, and covered in wounds that were almost healed with dried blood matting her fur. Her pain was unimaginable. She had no idea who she was, what had happened to her or how long she had been unconscious. She didn't even know her own name. Fast forward a year. She is back to a healthy weight, her wounds have healed to scars marring her body and face, and she still has no recollection of her past. Occasionally, most often in dreams, she gets snippets of what might be her old life - the scent of milk and the black memory of a blind pup wriggling against its mother and siblings; the first hunt of young sisters; a vicious snarl and a flash of fangs and claws. Still, she maintains her happiness. She wanders the rogue lands collecting stories and pasts, and any items that hold such things. Not having her own story to tell has made her a little obsessed with the stories of others. She still can't remember her name; she tends to use a different one as often as the whim strikes her, or whenever she thinks of a pretty one. It's likely that no two creatures she's met since her coma has gotten the same name from her, but the one name she always goes back to is Oraphima. The reason for her attachment to it is unclear, but she likes to pretend it is her real name, if only for her own comfort. 263 words.
And my CC winner!
Thanks guys! It'll be a big but I swear I'm getting back into things. smile
