Moana took Badru's hand and returned the shake, handshakes were still stuck a foreign thing to her and felt awkward to do. She quickly pulled her hand back from the alien gesture and replaced it with a soft smile. "No, I'm not competing, I don't think I'm ready though my teacher was trying to convince me to do so. I've still got many things unresolved and I can't fight in such a con-" Her head snapped in the direction of the harsh voice, her semi-faked smile halted and replaced with a serious expression-- Sonyo had trained her well to be able to read the feeling of the room. Soon, however, the situation deescalated and the tension that had build up in her shoulders stopped and her hand dropped from where it had laid softly on the fan at her hip. She let out a soft grumble.
"This is why I hate coming to these places..." She mumbled softly, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "Men are fools who like to strike out for posterity. It's just all one giant competition to them, who can be the biggest and baddest..." With a halt and her mouth still open, she suddenly became aware of who she was talking to. She cleared her throat, shuffling nervously on her feet. "No offense to you, of course. There are outliers in any group."

Sev spent a good amount of the first bit of the exams staring off in to blank space, not really paying attention to any of the fights. He was just off today, he didn't feel like himself. IT was only a passing whisp of hair in one of the fights that snapped him out of his fugue state. Blinking ice-blue eyes, Severin finally sat upright, his hands loosely handing in his lap. He felt a tug once again, at the back of his mind, like a word he couldn't quite remember... IT was there, at the tip of his tongue, just within but still too far out of his reach. His lips set hard, and in getting frustrated with his amnesia he looked away from the fight...
And his eyes set of a familiar figure.
Pure confusion washed across his features as he stared, in what maybe could be seen as slightly unnerving, at the Godaime Mizukage. He paid attention to little else in the several heartbeats that he stared, definitely too long to not be a coincidence. He didn't pay attention to the fights nor the tension building and then going away with the guards and the man they brought in. Eventually, one of the ANBU protecting Inka noticed him and stared back, causing Sev to finally break his stare at Inka and look away nervously.
Should he go? This man obviously had ties to his past. Would he know who he was? Would he even be able to get close enough to talk to him after being caught like a deer in headlights. He closed his brilliant blues and took a deep breath, then stood and made his way over. Anxiety struck through him; what if he was wrong? HE would absolutely embarrass himself and probably a good deal of Konohagakure in the process. Halfway to Inka, he changed his mind and sat against the wall by the door, watching Inka out of the corner of his eyes.
Something deep in his mind told him not to get close, not to talk to this man, that he would regret it. Anxiety formed itself in to a twisted and sickly ball in his stomach.

Obstacles are like wild animals. They are cowards but they will bluff you if they can. If they see you are afraid of them... They are liable to spring upon you; but if you look them squarely in the eye, they will slink out of sight.
Kaori and Nova walked into the area, they had followed the sound of irritation and conflict but it seemed as if the situation had resolved itself. They looked around, silently communicating with each other through body language and sub-vocal communication with each other. Neither of them trusted the "security" of the UHV, and in truth didn't trust this entire situation, but they were here to play mediator and to see what the UHV might be planning. Kaori turned and saw several individuals, one whom she recognized as being Moana from her own village, and several others she'd never seen before in her life. Already Kaori could feel the need to slink away without being noticed. There were far too many people here for her cat-like soul to like it.
Nova rumbled deep in her chest, it wasn't a purr since tigers weren't capable of the sound, but it wasn't quite a growl either. Though it was a sound of annoyance and disappointment that the situation had already been resolved. Kaori looked over and up at her much taller partner. Nova stood a full head taller than Kaori herself did, and as such Nova could be incredibly intimidating. Kaori was concerned that perhaps they should have had Nova use henge to look human. It was too late for that now, however, so Kaori was just watching her friend to make sure she didn't try and eat people.

Xianghua stood leaning off the rail of the stands, as she continued to watch the exams with interest. As much as she would've liked to join herself, under the strict order of her mentors, she was forbidden to enter this exam. During sign ups she traveled back to the temple so she could inform them of her progress, which was tested through three days of grueling training exercises, drills, and endless sparring. Even though she managed through all of that, her mentors were simply not convinced that she was ready, or that she took her training seriously. Of course, the invitation to return home immediately was presented to her without hesitation, but she kindly refused. Xiang wanted to prove her capabilities without guidance, and continue to pursue her interests in the shinobi lifestyle.
So here she was, watching others compete from the sidelines. Surprisingly she wasn't too upset about the whole ordeal, and considered it a learning experience of sorts. Even as she spectated matches from above, she took note that traditional shinobi methods for combat were far different than what she was trained to do. This mastery over ones... chakra, as her Academy teacher put it was simply amazing. The young martial artist was paying special attention to a particular match featuring a well-dressed female and what appeared to be another disciple from the temple? No, it couldn't be. His garments were slightly different. Regardless, it was this male's martial prowess that caught her attention, as well as the female's utilization of... what was it called? ...Ah, Ninjutsu! The match was simply inspiring to watch, with the male, more than likely supplementing his physical attacks with chakra - likely some shinobi taijutsu style - to fend against her ice attacks.
The game of tag continued, with Xianghua bounding lightly off of the balls of her feet cheering them both on.
The biggest shock of the entire interaction, was the arrival of Atsuko from gods know where. Zets simply flash his senior a smirk followed by a slight bit of the head Without hesitation the guard unit had relinquished the old puppet master and returned whence they came, leaving the older gentleman to his business.
“”
“ I don’t recall seeing your pupils matches, however I’m quite intrigued by the puppet that was carted away just now. You must be a true craftsman to construct such a implement device.” Zets yelled out as he closed the distance between he and the puppet master, before stopping bowing politely. “my name is Zets, hopefully that’ll be the last anyone gets harassed but those goons. ”
"Saitou," the man from the Frost responded, returning the bow. His unwavering eyes latched onto Zetsu, as if the rest of the world had fallen away. "The hell are you from, Mr. Zets? That puppet was stock Sand tech; I'm barely a ninja, let alone a craftsman. My Katou's not bad at it, but she's not up to making something like that yet. So, since it looks like I'm stuck here--" he shot a dirty look toward where the guards had been "--I'mma facilitate a goddamn dialogue. You got a kid in the exams too?"

It was the Anbu who passed along the Shimogakure sensei's revelation. Katou, he had said. Katou Hanae, the genin fighting in the Tag Round with Inka's son; Minowa Jaeger. But the round would soon be ending. "Wouldn't your student be awaiting you at in North Wing?" Inka spoke aloud, refusing to turn his head completely away from the sectioned off area his son was fighting in. "Hanae Katou." He clarified, his back ram-rod straight, the white symbol of his station stark on the back of his robe, placed like a bullseye. "Perhaps you could ask your new guardian to escort you over to meet her." The Anbu leaned in again, whispering something soft, that had the Godaime tilt his head in thought. After a brief second, he made a dismissive hand gesture. Perhaps the person who had relocated was not a threat.
With the fight over, Agni re-entered the South Wing with the rest of the participants. He gave the room a once over, appearing to simply be taking in his surroundings equally. Then, he quietly turned to the man who leaned against the wall like he had just popped out of a classic painting, gazing out at nothing with a troubled face. If Agni had to make a guess, he was more inclined to believe that this man was keeping tabs on the Mizukage with his peripheral vision than the obvious alternative, which was that the poor wall on the other side of the room had somehow offended him.
This sort of behavior could be painted as suspicious and shady, and with that sort of reason in mind, Agni approached the living painting of "Star-Crossed Lover," "Lover's Unconscious Lament," or what have you with a casual stride. With a rustle of clothes, he also leaned on the wall at the just right distance for a conversation--not in Severin's personal bubble, but also too close in this spacious room for this sort of settling to be a mere coincidence--and mutely adjusted his mask with one hand. Though, in the end, since the mask was tied to his head instead of just strapped, he ended up just retying the whole thing with both hands. Agni lowered his head to get a better to retie his mask from, his movement attracting attention to brown hair of the same shade and of close enough texture as a certain someone as it brushed against the side of the fox mask.
Xianghua ended up spectating the entirety of Haru and Amarantha's game of tag; the former declared the victor at the end. "Interesting." Being able to see some of things Shinobi were capable of was the exposure the young martial artist was looking for. As far as this Haru individual, his martial skill had certainly caught her attention. She was looking forward to seeing what he could do in the next round. Deciding to take a bit of time to explore the stadium during the break, Xianghua was off. [ Exit ]
Badru grumbled as his partner said something and then picked up the damn cat. He gave a low growl he knew Luna would hear then clenched his fists. Luna pursed her lips and raised an eyebrow at her friend loving on the cat her nails expertly scratching and petting him in the best of spots, listening for the change in the cat's purr. She looked at Atsuko and Zets, as she had heard him say. Thank you both. She would say before continuing to pet the cat. Badru clicked his teeth then looked back at Moana taking a deep breath. No offense taken. My partner and I are only here to watch and help if need be. No one truly trusts the UHV, too many people have been lost because of them. Badru said wrinkling his nose a the posse of UHV.

The cat, at first, had problems at being picked up, but before his hackles raised, he saw the purr-fect look of disdain on the human that smelled most strongly of dog. That face was the deciding factor that swayed the cat's decision in the other direction. Luna was free to pick up the cat, and while she maneuvered that large, fluffy body of his so that it was manageable to hold, the cat took advantage of a moment when Luna couldn't see his face to flash the most s**t-eating smirk a cat could muster straight in Badru's direction. On would be hard pressed to find anything that could say, "Look at me, I'm the winner," more than that smirk just did. It was there for only a flash of a moment, however, before disappearing in the next with a most contented and innocent look as the cat purred in genuine pleasure at the way Luna ran her fingers through his fur. Honestly, this was the best rub he had gotten since appearing on this world. That poor, plebian owner of his really didn't know the right way to handle members of the superior species such as himself.

Agni would have loved to spend more time with his silently melodramatic wall-leaning partner. However, the call for the second round of the matches went up and he was forced to descend back into the fray.
Iron walls slammed down at each exit to the spectator stands, preventing anyone from fleeing. Vents started to pump in a thick, blue-green gas heavy enough to immediately fall to the ground. It would spread out like thick molasses, coating the stands and making its way toward the combat arenas. (Everyone in the stands gets 1 dose/post of the poison gas, unless something is done about it. 4 doses leads to impaired senses; 6 doses leads to unconsciousness.)
In the halls outside the stands there were sounds of significant numbers of armored personnel moving about, though none had yet made it to this wing.

Bast had had quite enough of this nonsense. Things had, of course, gone wrong, and sure, it seemed like the UHV were serious about things. This place was positively a death trap. Poison gas? Check. What looked to be Chakra-nullifying nets? Check. Metal walls blocking the exits? Old-fashioned, but check. Without much ado, she slipped on her breath mask and stretched.
First things first: taking care of the gas. She made a Wind Clone, then Korabo'd some generic Fuuton release with its usage of Kekkai Houin. The result? A blast of air swept around the arena, shutting vents and leaving physical interference barriers over them. That would hopefully keep the air clear for a while as she figured out the best way to leave.
