tab tab An Eventful Chuunin Exam
tab It has been quite a long time since the last Chuunin Exams, which ended with the UHV destroying the event grounds without heed for the attendees. Since then, they have engendered a great deal of animosity for their takeover of the Mist and Cloud, displacing the citizens thereof. Now, they extend an olive branch to the two remaining major Villages: they wish to hold Chuunin Exams on neutral ground. Iwagakure--long since fallen--has been chosen as the location, since it once counted itself among the major 5 Villages.
tab But let's get real: This has to be a trap. Konoha knows it. Suna knows it. They've agreed to attend, but on one condition: they're sending security. Lots of security. The UHV conceded that demand without putting up a fight, which was only more suspicious. Thus, the Leaf and Sand are sending some fake Genin along for the ride, higher-ranked shinobi who can handle a hairy situation. Their mission is simple: protect their allies and help any potential defectors from the UHV.

Rules:
  • Outside the Timeline: Being at the exams doesn't affect your ability to roleplay outside it. When the exams start, anyone taking part needs to post their profile in the relevant thread(s). For the duration of the exams, they are restricted to using what's on that version of their profile.
  • Types of Participation: For these exams, there are two different ways a character can participate: as an Overseer and as an Examinee. Overseers are responsible for ensuring the health and safety of everyone in case something goes wrong (and spiriting away UHV defectors, for Major Village shinobi). Examinees are those who actually take the exams.

  • Temporary Characters: Anyone can make up to 2 temporary characters at D- or C-Rank Body to join the exams. These characters can be from any Village (even minor ones!), but can't have UHV technology. They're only allowed to have PAs from the PA guide (so we don't get tangled up with approvals) and can auto-learn techniques up to their Body Rank, up to normal learning limits. Rewards given out to temporary characters can be distributed to a roleplayer's other character(s) as they wish.
  • Major Village Shinobi: Can be any Body/Title rank, but must act as Genin if participating in the exams as an examinee. They are limited to 400 Chakra and 400 Stamina (if they normally have more) and a maximum of C-Rank techniques. They should also probably be disguised. These restrictions don't apply to participants who are actually Genin Title and at or below C-Rank Body.
    • For clarity, if your character is disguised, please post their normal profile and put their disguised name and appearance at the top.

Round one starts on: August 10th.

Information: Round One & Rewards

tab With just under a week left until the first round of the Exams, I'd like to cover what format the Exams will take. In addition, I'd also like to let you know the basics of how the rewards will be calculated and distributed, and how that relates to temporary characters.

tab Round One: A friendly game of tag, either in groups or singles! The first person to get hit is "it", and has to tag the other person to lose that status. Scoring is a simple tally of how many times each person tags someone else. Simple, clean fun! This score carries forward into the following rounds to create a leaderboard.

tab Rewards: Every character participating in the exams will get a minimum amount of AC, TP, Ryou, and some mysterious rewards on top of that. Overseers and participants will receive slightly different quantities of each, but the minimum anyone will receive is 2500 AC, 1250 Ryou, and 12 TP.
tab There will be additional rewards for completing certain actions:
  • Major Village shinobi will get a bonus for helping Minor Village shinobi defect from the UHV.
  • Minor Village shinobi get a bonus for winning a round.
  • Rogues can pick which side they want to participate as.

tab At the end of the exams, all participants will get a bonus based on their placement in the leaderboard. As mentioned in the last post, any rewards granted to a temporary character can be transferred to an RPC controlled by the same person.

Round One: Tag!

tab "Hello, everyone! It's time for the Chuunin Exams! Your humble correspondent here, live on the scene, is none other than the legendary Shinju Matsuoka, famed across the lands for such daring reports as... well, you get the picture!
tab Our first round's rules are very simple: Our contestants are broken into smaller groups and made to play a game of tag! One person will be chosen at random to be 'it' at the start. When you tag someone, the other person becomes 'it' and you gain a point. When the match finishes, the person who's 'it' loses a point. Oh ho, but let's keep things exciting: If no one gets tagged during the match, both participants lose a point! The match-ups are as follows:
  • Haru Kurou vs. Amarantha Nikita Vlakhusha: Amarantha's it!
  • Katou Hanae vs. Minowa Jaeger: Minowa's it!
  • Inohana Yamanaka vs. Choukyu Akamichi vs. Agni Enpisee: Inohana's it

tab All participants, please head to your arenas. Overseers: Keep an eye on things! And now, a word from our sponsors, The Beat Sisters, now on tour...
"

Rules Quick Guide

  • You're playing tag.
  • Tagging can only be done through touching their clothing or body with your body or something on your person. Keep it nonlethal.
  • Tagging someone makes them "it" and you gain a point.
  • You lose a point if you're "it" at the end.
  • Both parties lose a point if no one gets tagged.

tab "What's this? I'm being told we have a last minute entrant! The three-person match will be broken up as follows:
  • Inohana Yamanaka vs. Agni Enpisee
  • Choukyu Akimichi vs. Derych Kain

tab That's all for now!

Round One: Finished!

tab "...and that's time! Holy cow, folks, what a show! From the explosive matches of Haru and Amarantha, Choukyu and Derych, to the friendlier engagement of Inohana and Agni, to Katou and Minowa showing us just how dedicated someone can be to fleeing and pursuing, we got quite a good feel for these fighters' dedication and passion for this tournament! A good fight was had by all! We thank all our participants for their hard work, and ask them to please exit their arenas for some rest and recovery while we prep for the second matches.
tab The second round will begin shortly. 'But Shinju Matsuoka-dono, what is the second round?', I hear you asking! Well, that's simple: a fight! We've assembled a panel of judges from all across the continent to rate our participants on a scale from 1 to 10. At the end of the round, this number will be added to a participant's score. Here's the twist: If there's a clear winner for the match, the winner also gets their opponent's score added to their own! Given how dangerous fights can get, we'll be assigning overseers to each match to make sure everyone walks away from this in one piece.
tab With all this talk about ratings and scores, I bet you're wondering what the leaderboard looks like. Our crack team of totally impartial observers has tallied up the amount of times each participant was tagged, then subtracted one from the person who ended the match 'it'. If you've got a problem with the rankings, take it up with them; I'm just your humble, squishy correspondent! Without further ado...
"

Leaderboard
2 points: Haru
1 point: Agni, Amarantha, Choukyu, Katou
0 points: Inohana, Derych, Minowa

tab "It's a tight race for first, folks, but keep in mind this is peanuts compared to the next round! One good hit can cause a huge upset! Now, I'm not really supposed to do this, but to watch my own back, I'm going to tell you all the match-ups for the next round! You'll still have some time to recover, so use this information as you please!
  • In arena one: Minowa Jaeger and Amarantha Vlakhusha!
  • In arena two: Agni Enpisee and Katou Hanae!
  • In arena three: Inohana Yamanaka and Derych Kain!
  • In arena four: Haru Kurou and Choukyu Akimichi!

tab That's all for now, folks! Anyone who needs medical attention, please seek out a member of the first aid team.

Round Two: Fight!

tab "Sorry for interrupting the lovely music, but I've just received word that our tailor-made arenas are complete! While our competitors and overseers head to their assigned arenas, I'll give you some information on what we'll be seeing. But first: a round of applause for our staff for working around the clock to make this possible, for the brave overseers working to keep us all safe, and the participants putting everything on the line to prove their worth. Truly, we owe you all a great debt."
tab The stands erupted into a roar of approval that momentarily drowned out the commentary, but soon petered out enough for Shinju to get a word in edgewise.
tab "Wow, what an applause line! Thank you, all, but I need to go over the rules!"
tab "To keep things short: No headshots, no crotchshots, no lethal moves, stay inside your own arena. Victory is by knockout or surrender. If you're both still standing at the end, whoever's more hale and healthy is the winner. Overseers are allowed to intervene if they notice one of those rules being broken."
tab "'So what's the gimmick?' I hear you all asking. Why, it's the arenas themselves! Each one has been tailored to work against the strengths of those assigned to them. This is an exam to make sure the participants are ready to be Chuunin, and what better way to do that than by forcing them to deal with their weaknesses? It is my unbridled pleasure to present the greatest arenas this country has ever seen!"
tab That boast was followed up by a tremendous roar as the arenas from the first round slid apart and a new set of four arenas rose from below to take their place: one of ice, one of metal, one of wood, and one of scrap. As they locked into place, two layers of thin netting slid out of a gap in the walls, covering the top of each arena.
tab "This is liable to get hairy, folks, so be wary of any stray projectiles that make it through the netting! Overseers without an assignment should head to the stands to help keep everyone safe. Contestants, as soon as you're all at your assigned stations, let those haymakers fly!"

Rules

  • No lethal force.
  • No permanent damage.
  • No attacking the genitals or head.
  • Overseers are not to interfere in the fighting unless it's for the safety of the participants or to protect the rules.
  • Overseers are optional for the post order. Competitors should not wait for an overseer's post unless it's necessary or they've involved themselves in the fight directly.
  • Overseers without a special assignment are asked to head to the stands to protect the spectators from stray attacks.

Assignments

  • Arena One (Iron): Minowa Jaeger, Amarantha Vlakhusha.
    tab Overseers: Ichiryu Senju, Luna.
  • Arena Two (Wood): Agni Enpisee, Katou Hanae.
tab Overseers: Moana Eloi, Atsuko Uchiha.
  • Arena Three (Ice): Inohana Yamanaka, Derych Kain.
tab Overseers: Mi-Jin Mon, Severin Raigyo.
  • Arena Four (Scrap): Haru Kurou, Choukyu Akimichi.
tab Overseers: Zetsuou Vongola, Kaori Raigyo & Nova.

tab "And now the other shoe drops! Looks like the Sound's plan has been executed perfectly! They baited all you terrorists into showing up in one place, and now you're thoroughly screwed. Apologies to all you untrained bystanders who came to have a good time; UHV emergency responders will be by soon to arrest the criminals and provide first aid to anyone injured. As for me: I'm outta here! Have fun choking on your own spit, you villains!"

Exams Canceled! Flee the Stadium

tab Looks like it's time for everyone to show their stuff. Escape the death trap that the exam grounds have become! The nets around and above the exam areas have been charged with the UHV's special anti-Chakra technology and the arenas themselves are designed to hurt and/or kill anyone who tries to escape. On top of that, a slow-moving knockout gas is filling the stands and will soon reach the arenas. Do you have what it takes to bust yourself and everyone else out?
