Becoming a Working Man Everything in this thread is going to be pertaining to career and crafting profession missions. The time this takes place stretches from around a month after the war to just under a year before the current timeline.

Mission Title :: Gathering Basic Rank :: D Description :: Shinji heads to a small wooded area within the Arashigakure limits in order to search for some common herbs he has seen growing there. 1 Kit rewarded.
Alright, time for business. Shinji rolls out a cloth and arranges his tools in a sequential order from most to least important. He then takes a small container of polishing agent and dabs a cloth in it until he has a sufficient amount to fill his needs. One by one, he sets to work scrubbing away and scuffs on the tools in order to give them a clean and shiny appearance. With each tool, he sets them into his bag once they are to his liking. Once all the tools were prepared, he picks up the bag and heads out.
With his tools at the ready, Shinji stepped into a clearing within the woods. The trees weren't very dense, and he was able to peer deeper into the woods than in other places. He spotted a few crops of herbs here and there, and decided that they might be of some use. Shinji stooped down at one set of herbs and began working on trimming some of the leaves off. No sense in taking the entire plant and removing that resource.
He did this a couple more times until he felt he had a fair amount, then moved on to find something else. Moving deeper into the woods and out of the clearing, he stopped a few times and harvested more herbs, different from the ones in the clearing. It seemed like the further he ventured, the stranger and more diverse the herb cultures became. After he had gathered what he felt was enough herbs, he headed out. It was a good start.

Another day, another gathering experience. Shinji woke up and set out to polish his tools once again. He did this to ensure that they weren't going to wear out any time soon. A true hero he was. Or... Maybe it was true craftsman? Whatever the case, he was dedicating himself to becoming the best he could be at harvesting plants. Oh, what an exciting life he lead.
Having his tools readily prepared, Shinji returned to the woods and set to work gathering more herbs. Some, today, he chose to uproot in order to plant them at his home, but others he left alone. A few new plants were found today. Nothing to write home about, but cool and interesting looking fauna.
Shinji chose to taste the sap from one of the herb clippings he had taken. Bitter, so much so that he nearly gagged from the taste. Never again was he going to find interest in the taste of these plants. However, todays haul was pretty decent. There were some herbs he hadn't seen the day before, and gathering them was a priority of his.
Mission Title :: Gathering Basic Rank :: D Description :: Shinji heads to a nearby herb garden in order to search for some common herbs he has seen growing there. 1 Kit rewarded.
Today, Shinji opted not to polish his tools. He didn't want to run the risk of damaging them from overcare. Instead he just went straight out to gather. However, this time he chose a new location. There was a garden in a nearby village that he had heard about that grew common herbs, and was open to any aspiring botanists to come take samples.
After clearing it with the kage, he set out with a chunin accompanying him to this village and harvested a fair deal of common herbs. The lady who owned it showed him a peppermint scented plant that she claimed was fairly good to use when it came to crafting enchantments. Shinji made sure to grab as much of the peppermint smelling plant as he could carry. He made a mental note to return here a few more times in the future.

His tools got fairly dirty while in the nearby village. Shinji decided that it might be a good idea after all to take a break and clean them. The owner of the garden offered him a cloth and some water. She gave him some pointers for maintaining is supplies. Using her tips, he felt much more confident in how he should take care of them.
Continuing his perusing of the garden, Shinji found an interesting plant shaped sort of like a cactus. He thought it was an herb, but further information told him otherwise. Apparently, the owner also liked to grow plants that are found in other villages for fun. She pointed him back to the herbs and made it clear what was and was not for taking.
A few of the herbs were ancient, nearly extinct species. They weren't special by any means. The owner told Shinji that they were often harvested as a whole due to their popularity. Slowly this had eaten away at their survival, but still the same Shinji took samples from them.
Mission Title :: Gathering Basic Rank :: D Description :: Shinji heads to yet another common area within the Arashigakure limits in order to search for some common herbs he has seen growing there. 1 Kit rewarded.
Shinji left the garden and opted to search elsewhere in Arashigakure for any basic herbs. He found a fairly overgrown plains area that looked promising. A typical grassy cove, with several different types of plants sprouting between the grass. It was an endeavor to find anything that was useful.
However, there were at least a few prime specimens. Some hazel colored herbs were fairly prevalent. In other places there was an herb that was hot to the touch. Shinji made a mental note to include gloves the next time he chose to come out hunting. He picked his fair share and went home to store them.

Mission Title :: Gathering Basic Rank :: D Description :: Shinji haunts the local market for some good old-fashioned herb gathering. 1 Kit rewarded.
Remembering what the garden owner had taught him about polishing his tools, Shinji laid out his normal cloth mat on the floor of his room. She had told him that every tool required a different specialized treatment to keep them tidy. His trimmers required that the blade be sharpened each time to ensure that it didn't harm to herbs. The hoe required that there be no clumps of dirt on its surface in order to prevent root damage when taking a whole plant. After his tools were in order, he decided to head towards the local market.
There wasn't much of a good picking here. He thought that a place that had a wide array of goods might offer some more choices for herbs, but it was minimal and the same. He walked through the various booths and inspected any plant life he may have seen. One particular booth was selling what they considered flowers for any aspiring gardeners.
The flowers they were selling were blooming nicely, but a few from their selection weren't flowers at all. Shinji recognized the peppermint-smelling herb among their goods and bought a plant from them. Another herb among their wares that they weren't aware of, was an herb that acted as a cooling agent. He knew that they were good for keeping things cool, and decided that it would be worth it to have some. He bought a plant of that kind as well. Not a very good haul, but a haul nonetheless.

Having been gathering materials for Botany crafting, Shinji felt it best to try his hand at mining as well. After all, he was planning on making his own weapons. He started by gathering a series of tools together that he knew would be useful. Then he set out to a small rock formation near his house to search for basic materials.
Using a small pickaxe and a brush to move dust away, he set to work tearing through the surface. He found a couple veins of a shiny, metallic mineral. He harvested the veins as much as he could. Once he was satisfied, he decided to move on to somewhere else.

A bit further outside the village, a remnants of a small mountain were scattered from the detaching of Arashi from the surface of the earth. If anywhere was going to give good resources, it was here. He set down his bag and peered around. He wondered if they were ever going to land again.
With pickaxe in hand, Shinji went from rock to rock collecting anything that may seem promising. A few metals, but mostly just hunks of mineral. Maybe to someone those were useful, but not to him. He put the rocks in his bag and left.

Shinji returned to the same spot the next day. After further inspection of the rocks he had nabbed previously, he noticed there may have been more merit to the useless ones after all. Some of the crafting he was planning on doing required a harder material in its making. If he was ever going to become a master craftsman, he should have known that before.
He set to work, grabbing larger deposits and putting them into his bag, and used a pickaxe to break others apart. He found some blue, shiny gem-like materials. Cobalt possibly? It was the first time he had ever seen a naturally occurring gem.

He still had plenty of room in his bag. He set out to break open as many rocks as he could like John Henry through a mountain. The railroad he was building was straight into his own pockets. Shiny metals and crystalline materials stacked up nicely.
He was almost ready to start crafting things. Not quite there though. He wanted to make sure he had plenty in order to make multiple items to practice He knew the basics already, but before he even THOUGHT about doing anything more, he needed to hone his skills.

There were several interesting minerals here. Some were red colored but very grainy, others were very porous but felt smooth to the touch. He never knew there were so many different rocks. He was dreading throwing some of these into the smelting pot.
Maybe he would keep some for a personal collection. The idea crossed his mind, but for now he tossed it out the window. Coincidentally, the rocks he was picking up and breaking open were being thrown into his bag. At least... The ones that were useful.

This was getting slightly boring. Maybe just a little more gathering, then a trip home to sleep. Shinji picked up the pace at the thought. After all, his mom would be making dinner shortly. The sun was going down.
Shinji found some interesting blue rocks. Not crystalline, but a light blue shade of just pure rock. He cracked them open and, surprisingly found shades of red and green inside. Curious sight indeed. He pocketed part of the rocks for himself, and the rest he shoved into the bag for smelting purposes. He then proceeded to head home in order to eat and rest up.

Okay, another day, another gathering experience. This was the day Shinji kicked things into overdrive. He had a short schedule to keep to, and the deadline was coming up. The local craftsmen weren't very patient, and if he waited too long to gather these and show up, their apprentice-ship program would close its doors. He threw on a bag and some clothes and headed even further out than he had previously. He traveled outside of the village, to the ground below, and found the spot the mountain debris from the other day originated.
Bits of the mountain had indeed broken off, but he could see that there were some cave openings on the surface. A bit of hiking and he found himself inside of one. The walls weren't very lit up, but he thankfully had brought a torch with him. He lit it and set to work knocking things off the walls, digging for the minerals underneath. The mines had previously been used for this exact purpose, so getting to the important things wasn't hard.

A bit of gold, some gems, and several dense unnamed minerals were gathered from these caves. Cobalt and Ruby seemed to be fairly common. Though, their actual value was fairly cheap unless they were refined. No way Shinji was going to be doing that.
His entire purpose for doing this was to craft his own arsenal, and eventually sell his wares to people. After all, if there was going to be any wars in the future, a properly armed force was a must. He began to daydream of what exactly he wanted for personal use, and harvested the materials he thought would serve that end specifically. Nothing flashy, but many many darker and denser materials was his goal for his own things.

The cave began to narrow out towards the end, threatening to squeeze Shinji. He was beginning to have thoughts of turning back and heading into another cave. Before long, he noticed that there was a light towards the end and decided to tough it out. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea, as the walls were starting to compress his chest before it opened back out.
The room he had found was wide, hollow, and had walls glittering with precious gems. He turned and used a water style technique to widen the opening a bit for whenever he decided to return here. The looks of the inside of this area gave the impression that miners previously hadn't explored this deep. Maybe they didn't want to push through the narrow corridor.
Shinji set his bag down and began to walk around, taking in the sight. Every now and again he would stop and investigate things deeper. A myriad of colors made this place seem more magical than real. After he had his visual fill, he pulled out his pickaxe and set to work taking gems off the walls.

By the end of things, his bag was heavy. Nearly too heavy to carry around. He had stripped several pounds of material from each wall. Roughly, in total, 100 pounds of gems and rocks.
Most people would find that easy to lift, but Shinji wasn't the most physically fit at this point. In fact, it wasn't a stretch to say that he was weaker than most genin, and definitely no where near as athletic. His proficiency with weaponry more than made up for that, however. The academy had denoted him as the foremost weapons user of his class, after all.
Back to the gems... Shinji had harvested more rocks than shiny things. He knew that most of what was on the wall only held sentimental value and no crafting value at all. However, the fact that there were so many gems here meant that the rock and minerals here were prime candidates to make better weapons. If he showed up with these, the artisans were sure to give him the apprentice spot. After mining a few more rocks, he decided to head out with todays haul weighing him down.

Several months had gone by since Shinji’s venture into the gem-filled mine. He had been away from the village and had only recently returned. The time he HAD spent at the village, though short, was spent at the artisan shop assisting in their crafting of weaponry. They had accepted him on as an apprentice before he had set out to find the snake-summoner, who he now knew as Zahara, but he had simply disappeared without giving them a notice of absence. Luckily they understood. He was a shonibi, and they knew that the life of a ninja was constantly shifting and heading in different directions. They welcomed him back with open arms, even going so far as to ask for his help crafting some of their more basic weapons. Today, however, they were running low on materials. Shinji volunteered to venture out and find some, and had a list of ores to look for. The one he was most curious about was copper. It wasn’t a very useful ore for weapon making. Perhaps they had another use for it, but from what Shinji knew, the metal was only strong as an ore. Once it was smelted down and purified, the resulting product was very flimsy and could be destroyed easily. It must have been a custom request. As an aspiring smith, he knew that a customers orders weren’t always going to make a lot of sense. His journey had him going to a place the smiths gathered their standard materials, as those were what needed replenished. It was a small mining vein they had made on the edge of Arashigakure. They warned him to be careful, as the vein opened up into a straight fall to the ground. They weren’t kidding; at the end of the tunnel was open air, clouds drifting by aimlessly through the wind. He shook his head at the sight and simply began to dig into the walls. He picked spots that the other miners hadn’t touched yet. The old men were picky about their spots. Dust filled his lungs as he hammered away, but it was a feeling he was used to by now. The ores he collected from this trip weren’t substantial by any means. Just some simple metals, and enough copper to fill the special order. The iron veins were beginning to run bare in this shaft, and he made a mental note to let the artisans know they should open another mine elsewhere. He wondered if he should tell them about his special gathering spot, but chose not to. After all, they most likely wouldn’t leave the village unless it was a life or death reason. Instead, once he had bled his spot dry of ores, he returned and dropped that haul off before going out for more. Travelling outside of the village, Shinji went directly to the mines of the torn apart mountain from the days before he left. Multiple mine entrances meant even more ore for smelting. His haul from this place was going to be filled with enough copper to make a man mad. He set to work down the closest mine he could fine. The walls inside were damp and covered in moss. It must have rained recently. He had brought a headlamp with him to allow for better sight. Some bats were sleeping above, but he knew that unless he provoked them they would just panic and leave once he made noise. Hammering clicks rained against the walls, leaving a trail of echoes to bounce throughout the cave. It took several minutes before there was any result to his work. One last hammer stroke revealed a long, and thick silver vein stretching along the inside of the wall. He recognized the iron right away and set to work carving it out of the wall for the craftsmen. A few more feet away and he repeated the same process. He found even more iron this way. Shinji let out a soft sigh and dredged deeper into the bowels of the dank cavern. He was hoping that he would find more copper, if only out of spite at this point. A strange smile cracked his cheeks at the thought. Such a prank would likely cause a ruckus in the shop, one made of hearty laughter. The artisans had grown fond of Shinji in his short time there. They felt it brought some character into the place to have a youngster helping them with their work. Shinji had also grown fond of the elderly men. They were wise beyond their already stretched years, and had plenty of insight. They were part of the reason he was able to cope with the Kogarashi incident. At least partly. They allowed him to push his focus onto something helpful rather than the death and destruction of the war. He owed them a debt of gratitude for that. Shinji often discussed with them about opening his own shop. Once his apprenticeship was over and they deemed him worthy of standing on his own feet, that is. The old men were supportive of this idea. They said it would give them a chance to retire and be at home with their families more. Shinji felt sort of bad for that, but he knew that these master craftsmen were going to live comfortably after all of the time and jobs they had finished. Men of their stature often did. A slight chill ran down Shinji’s spine at the thought of what their families were like. He shook the thought aside and continued to mine. He found it! Copper, the ore of legend. Or, rather, the ore they requested. The dirty bronze was nearly indistinguishable unless you knew what to look for, but the headlight did give it a slight gleam to help separate it from the rocks. He hefted his axe and broke the area around it away. His training with Zahara had made him much stronger. His more toned body was capable of holding more than he could before his departure from the village. Who would have known. Shinji gathered as much of the copper ore as he could, then went on to find something else. Something for personal use. He knew that this specific area was once a volcanic site. He had done plenty of research into the matter when he was looking for information on Ryuchi Cave. The material he was looking for now was Obsidian. A black, glass-like material that forms from molten rock. It was said that obsidian was dense, and could hold an edge sharper than a razor. It would make the perfect material to make a knife. That would be just one of Shinji's personal collection. [80 Sentences, 20 paragraphs, 10 missions]

Shinji traveled deeper into the cave until the temperature began to rise. Perhaps it was just residual heat from the previous volcanic activity that had seeped into the walls. Or, more likely, a bed of magma hidden beneath the mountain. Shinji looked in awe as he rounded the corner and saw a small pond of magma bubbling in front of him. He had seen lava style before, but never natural lava. The sight of the burning earth both amazed and terrified him. It took a moment for him to shake the sensation and continue his search. A bead of sweat formed on his brow as he began to look around for the dark material. It was a fairly long search, but he did eventually find it. The black frame of broken glassy rock was hard to find, but plentiful. He picked up a piece, and placed it in a container he had brought with him for just this purpose. A few more pieces were placed in the jar before he noticed there were several cuts on his hand. The material did live up to its reputation. He didn’t feel any of the slices being made. The minutely thin edge of obsidian was known to go unnoticed until visual sight was made with the cut. And almost as if on cue, a stinging sensation began to well up. He hissed at the feeling, but pushed it down all the same. No sense in stopping now. A second container was pulled from his satchel and filled with even more obsidian. He wanted to make sure he had plenty for his project. He left the lava filled area once he had his fill, and ventured out and into another mine shaft. This one, strangely, was drier than the last. Perhaps his original assumption was wrong. Maybe it wasn’t rain, but the heat from the magma that had caused the wet walls. Shinji worked on the walls until such time as he struck silver. After gathering that, he searched for gold, then on to other ores useful as common crafting materials. Some were known to conduct chakra to employ strange effects, others were known to generate heat and other things. The shinobi world was full of materials that operated in strange ways, but Shinji was still confused as to some of the nuances of the crafting world. Well, the ores of the crafting world at least. The plant life made sense. He had studied how the mixture of chakra into concoctions composed of certain herbs produced effects due to just the addition of chakra. It was like how medicine introduced to the body would have an effect. The honest truth, he wasn’t interested in the entire ins and outs of these things, he had his own goals in mind, and if he learned that information along the way then so be it. He knew the materials he wanted to gather, and what he would use them for. Shinji left the mine and returned to the artisan shop. According to them, he had been gone half the day. It only felt like a few hours to poor Shinji. Apparently he found this sort of thing fun. Shinji dropped the copper onto the desk for the men to deal with. The rest, he put away himself. After putting the wares away, he went to the local market to sell his own personal collection. [41 sentences, 10 posts, 10 missions]

Today was the first day that Shinji was able to create an actual weapon under his apprentice position. The task was fairly simple. They wanted him to make a dagger. It was for a customer, and they were all fairly busy. They gave him a nudge in the right direction, but made sure he knew that if he messed up they would step in and correct it. Being his first actual smithing job, he was pretty nervous. The dagger requested wasn’t anything too unique. The most abnormal part about it was a perpetual curve at the end that was intended to nearly touch the backside of the blade. Shinji was informed that the customer specified a very small margin between in order for it to act as a ring but with a wide enough gap to slip over wire. He understood the reason for that feature. It could be used to spring wire traps on purpose and can have your own wire looped in for various reasons. The request wasn’t any less strange. Shinji set to work melting ores. That part was simple. While the ores were melting, he began to form the mold. Scraping at a flat block of doused wood that would allow the molten metal to cool without setting the building on fire. The doused wood was a signature method used by his teachers. There were much easier ways to create a mold, but they preferred the wood for whatever reason. It had something to do with the chakra absorbing into weapons for special properties. Something he wouldn’t learn for a while. Once the metal was cooled into a solid form, Shinji picked it up with a pair of tongs, setting it atop a block of ice. Another signature of these artisans. Dipping such hot metal directly into water would warp the metal, but letting the ice melt and pool around it would cool the metal down at a steady rate without any warping or disfigurement. Once the blade was cool enough, he attached a simple hilt to the blade, wrapping it with a cloth for easier gripping and using a bamboo peg to hold the blade in place. Finally, he attached a pommel to the end to secure the cloth, and the weapon was finished. The only thing left to do was sharpen it. The next order he was asked to fill was a bit easier to mold. A sword. The most complicated part of the weapon was going to be the guard, but his friends in the shop had already done that part. Once again, Shinji threw ores into the smelter and began carving out the mold. This one required a much longer piece of wood. A few feet in length for the blade itself, and another foot or so to compensate for the setting rod. Shinji enjoyed swords, so he was extremely precise when it came to carving out the form. Precision edges, almost like he was setting up a full scale geometric model of the blade. He personally measured the dimensions and made sure they were correct before pouring the metal. Afterwords, he set up his grind stone and prepared the rest of the materials he would need. He used a small carving tool to set notches in the hilt-to-be in order to add his own aesthetic flair to it, as well as to improve the overall appearance. The sheath had already been brought in by the customer. They were purchasing the weapon as a replacement for a sword they had broken, rather than repair it. A shame really. Shinji lifted the blade and cooled it similarly to the knife, then set to work attaching all the pieces. The cloth he used was a faded grey to match the sheath, crossed and interwoven into a brilliant pattern. The pommel was one personally chosen by Shinji. It was intricately shaped into the head of a snake. The scabbard had a winding, somewhat scaly pattern wrapping around it, and he figured that pommel would match. Shinji displayed the weapon for customer pick-up, and was immediately tasked with another order. Today was proving to be busy for his first time smithing. His teachers made notes of how quickly he seemed to be picking up on things, but they didn’t realize it was because he had a deep understanding of weapons long before he took up this program. Before he started at the academy, his parents had given him a scythe, and from then on he had a fascination with weapons as a whole. He preferred a blade over normal ninjutsu. He intended to learn as many different Bukijutsu styles as he could, and mixing ninjutsu with them would hopefully propel him into the higher echelons of power. The weapon he had just been tasked to make was one he was intimately familiar with. A simple scythe. However, it was scaled down to a single-handed size. Like a kusari without the gama. The ores were smelting already, before he even knew what the weapon was. The way the men were talking made him well aware of what was coming. An intricate carving of the wood would allow him to put a groove in the side of the blade, something he knew would, eventually, serve a purpose. It was to offset wind friction and allow for easier and faster swings. Soemthing he knew from Yuugure. His own scythe lacked that feature, which made the wind friction difficult sometimes. HE cooled the metal and wrapped a cloth around the small scythe, but tied it off instead of securing it. He knew that, when it came to small-handed scythes, some preferred them bare. Shinji handed the blade to the customer and explained his choice of the divet in the blade. They thanked him, and asked about the cloth. He gave them instructions on how to secure the cloth if they chose to keep it, but advised them to try it without if they hadn’t already. The only weapon Shinji made for his personal use came after the shop closed down. He wanted a sword of his own. Arashi, his sword, was at home with Yuugure, and he needed a blade to practice with. He didn’t want to head home just to leave again. In any case, this would serve as his graduation, of sorts, onto another level in the shop. As he worked, he was asked by the craftsmen If he wanted to have a more permanent position. Shinji was confused at first, and asked what that entailed. They explained that they would teach him how to craft better, stronger, and special weapons. He thought it over as he folded the metal into the mold. The idea of being able to make unique weapons was something he had been interested in for some time. He searched for a simple black cloth, and found an old scabbard in the back of the shop to match. He asked what exactly made the weapon so special. His teachers explained to him that, by pouring your chakra into a weapon, it activated unique properties in the materials that brought out unique effects such as elemental affinities among others. Shinji accepted their offer as he set up the rest of his weapon, dreaming about being able to make weapons out of his own chakra and having better ties to them.

A few days passed before Shinji was allowed to make his first personal item with special properties. He had been thoroughly instructed on what to do. Once the metal was melted and poured into the mold, as it cooled, Shinji was instructed to pour his chakra into the wood itself. It would act as a gateway between the chakra and the metal. Instead of having the metal react to an exorbitant amount of chakra all of a sudden, it would slowly activate the special properties as it cooled. They further explained that if he just introduced his chakra directly, the sudden change would create abnormalities in the cooled form and make it easier to break. Shinji wondered if there was a way around this, but didn’t voice his query. The weapon he was choosing to make was a small dagger to start. He had several ideas for the unique properties in mind, but he didn’t want to spoil it for the men in case he wasn’t successful. The blade was designed in a unique fashion. Starting at the hilt, the blade would bow out and form a “belly” on the bladed edge, then curve back and return to center. At the apex of the curve it culminated into a sharp point. Shinji also kept the purpose of that hold to himself, as it wasn’t for anything more than aesthetic flair. He wanted to set his custom weapons apart from everyone else. If it was a simple looking weapon, it wouldn’t hold any deep connection to him. Once the weapon was cooled, Shinji finished it quickly and set it to the side. There was a lot to do today around the shop. He would make more custom weapons after they close, and then take them out to test them. After all, if he was going to start now, might as well go all in. The final touches were to sharpen and wrap the blade. He wasn’t going to bother with making a sheath for it. If the weapon truly worked the way he intended, he wouldn’t need it.
After a hard days work, Shinji had been thinking of plenty ideas for what he wanted next. What it realistically had come down to was whether or not they had the materials to do it. Shinji had been using his own personal stash up until now, so there wasn’t any reason for him to worry about it. For the next, though, one he’d start delving into the store supply. They assured him it was no big deal. They rarely used those materials. Plenty had been stockpiled, but once people stopped buying the more pricey weapons, it just became overflow. He told them he would pay them anyway, and the issue was resolved. Shinji smelted the materials and carved out another dagger-shaped mold. This one was going to act as a pairing for the first. If things went according to plan, it was going to be an interesting, and fairly potent, combination. One was going to act as a gateway, and the other as a conduit, of sorts. Similar to the first, this dagger wouldn’t need a scabbard. Instead, he was trying to bring out an effect that would allow them to appear when called. In a sense. The blades were black in color, but they weren’t made of the obsidian. That was for a much bigger project. Shinji poured the metal into the mold and began to pour chakra in. This time, the blade glowed slightly. That was something new. It probably had something to do with it being a different effect than the first.
The next weapon Shinji set out to make was wildly different from the first two. This time, he wanted a much much larger weapon. A greatsword, in order for him to practice with the appropriate bukijutsu styles. A wildly larger amount of material was needed for this. The men simply laughed and fetched the iron and other metals that Shinji requested. He had spent most of his free time that day brushing up on what metals did what, and what happened when you combined them. He knew exactly what he was trying to accomplish with this one. It wasn’t like the daggers, but it was too big to have a sheath. However, he was expecting a certain project to be finished soon that would allow for this weapon to be stored without worry. The men watched as he carefully added the metals into the smelter at specific measurements. They raised eyebrows, curious as to why the boy was being so specific. Shinji did something they had never expected to see such a young man do. A unique experiment they had never tried. Shinji infused chakra into one of the metals and dropped it into the smelter. Instead of fusing chakra into the wood, he did this in order to cause a mixing of effects in the metal. See, if you do it from a smelted state, it isn’t just the metals being mixed. The activated effects of the metals mix as well. It was an ancient, arcane smelting method that he had read about earlier that day. Upon finalizing the sword, he hefted it, with superhuman ease, and placed it against the wall, careful not to damage it or anything else. He brushed the metal with his hand, and returned to the forge.
One more. That was all this was going to take. One last weapon to complete his arsenal for now. Shinji started with the minerals again. He did the same process as the great sword, using chakra during molten metal state to create a fused effect. He carved out a normal katana’s mold from the wood, and doused it in ice-cold water like normal. When he poured the metal into it, the soft sizzling made him giddy inside. If all of these worked appropriately, Shinji was preparing himself to be set apart from other shinobi in just flair alone. All of the weapons he used today were set to work in conjunction with one another. The daggers would be a pair, and the greatsword would be paired with this katana. Shinji pushed chakra through the wood to further activate any latent abilities in the metal, and as it cooled, it turned into a bright white color of metal. He was happy with this, but he was a bit worried that the blade wouldn’t work as necessary. After he finished crafting the blade itself, the guard came next, but he didn’t put any extra effort into it. This katana wasn’t meant to stand out. It was meant to blend in. The hilt was wrapped with a nice, clean white cloth, and the pommel secured it together. Shinji waited until after he had crafted the sheath. Those were simple. All it took was a coat of paint, any additional designed that you wanted on it, and remove the excess. The crafting guild ordered those specially made in order to allow for longer blades to be made. Once it was measured and painted, he placed the blade into the hilt, pushing a bamboo peg into place to hold it together. As soon as he did so, the greatsword hummed a response, which shocked the men, but made Shinji smile.
