Well, at least he could say the fellow was sufficiently outgoing and amicable, which were desirable in a person that you sincerely hoped wouldn't arrest you. He also took note of the attire: though of a different style, it was still well-thought out and carefully composed. That scored the man some bonus points, even if it was not very similar to the crimson and black suit that Jasper wore. "Quite so. It is a pleasure to meet you, Emilio." Instantly assuming first name basis was a bit disconcerting, but he was willing to roll with it for the time being; as he had gathered, most people were not nearly so formal as he. "Do you come here often? I only ask because you seem quite comfortable with the cats here, as if you knew them." He crossed his legs, but overall his body language was still rather open. As of yet, there was no reason for him to close himself off. There was a rectangular package on the table beside him that he had yet to mention. How would Emilio react to it, he wondered.

Ah yes, there had been that. Unfortunately, he was not some super genius, so he hadn't been able to learn ASL (though the fact that he was fluent in BSL would have helped.) Believe it or not, he already had some contacts within the tech world, and ever since he had started working with his daughter niece, he had been looking into ways to aid communication with those who were sensory impaired. The boy had beaten him to helping Hana, but that was fine for now. However, he had gotten some updates for communication with the hearing impaired. He gave a brief nod before pulling out what looked like a small tablet with a tiny bluetooth microphone that looked more like an ear piece. This can translate what I say into text. It works in real time, so little lag. Unfortunately, I only know British sign language, which is quite different from American sign language. Does this work for you? The screen was surprisingly clear and the font large enough to be easily legible, yet small enough to get several sentences on the screen. In the upper right hand corner was a tiny British flag, then an arrow followed by the American flag; indicating that the voice input was British, but the text had been Americanized. It could be changed to other languages though, if desired.

He gave a slight smile a second before Emilio put on the ear piece. Jasper hadn't really known how his partner would handle the situation: some people were highly against finding cures for deafness while others whole-heartedly supported the attempts, and there were probably people in the middle as well. "Strange" did not give a clear indication as to where Emilio fell on that scale, but he supposed it was better than outright fury. "Does this work for you? I would have offered sign language as well, however, I am only fluent in British sign language. Though it is based on the English language as well, it is very different from American sign language, unfortunately." As if in example, he signed the last sentence he spoke while speaking it, both hands working adeptly to form the words. Emilio's name definitely had an exotic flair, Italian perhaps. Was there a chance that he had picked up British sign language instead of British English like most European students? He certainly hoped that was the case: he would much rather be over-prepared than under, and it might seem rude to have to make Emilio have to adapt in order to suit Jasper's needs.
