Sweat poured off of the young girl's face, her keiogi and hakama saturated in the same perspiration from the second training of the day. She looked down at the ground as she moved outside the dojo, sun casting a shallow shadow which was almost non existent. She had worked hard today, studying the Raiu clan's techniques as she did most every day since she was old enough to hold a sword. Even after learning Thunder Breathing, she felt slow. Her first form and modified first form were not yet perfected. The clan's famous Iaijutsu techniques were a thing her father had placed a tremendous amount of focus on for her. Learning the technique was not enough, she had to perfect it beyond it's current state.
With only her first form learned and not quite executed to perfection, she really shouldn't waste time memorizing the second form, Lightning Ball. However, this technique was a favorite in her books. The speed her father executed the technique with was unparalleled and it always was a flashy move. When practicing the first form she had found herself transitioning to the Coiled Flash and Modified Coiled slash due to the similarity in the technique's opening stance. She had no issue picking up these techniques by studying the movements of her father, memorizing his every action...if only she could gain his approval.
Shadows shifted along the ground as she began to hear the muffled sounds of the city in the distance, moving further away from the Sun Quarter towards the Shogun's castle. She knew she was expected to meet with her father some time later in the day. Seizo Raiu, the slayer of one thousand men in a single stroke. His unparalleled Iaijutsu had gained a large reputation and secured his seat as the Shogun's right hand. Even Tatsuko knew this angered the other clans, the Hogosha Clan being the most reserved but clearly the most offended as their title as guardians to the shogunite were jeopardized by his actions. Today though, fathe- Seizo that is, had requested her along with several of the other noble clan's heirs. The girl had a sinking feeling that this would be yet another attempt to sway her into an early marriage to one of the Seinaru Enjo Clan's boys. Still, she was uncertain.
She would be openly approachable by others as she moved towards the castle still, lingering in the streets as though hesitating.
"Lady Sumire, your father wishes to see you." With a bow, the maid had left the room. Sumire's head rose to glance at her own reflection. Black hair dark as the raven's fathers and lavender's eyes sad as an empty and forgotten graveyard. Pushed herself away from the desk, she left her room and headed towards the main room where her father would be. Upon entering, Sumire's eyes kept low as she was able to see her father's feet. Her hands poised in front of her as she walked with a straight poster that would even make the floorboards jealous. Once she was at a good distance, her hands slid down to her thighs and tucked in her dress as she knelt to the floor at the same time. With a flawless half bow, "You called for me, Otลsan?" "Head to the Shogun's Castle." Was all he said as he headed out. "Hai, Otลsan" The young girl waited for him to leave before she got up. It was custom manners after all. The sounds of the door slamming reached to hear ears.
Was her father displeased? Did she do something wrong? With a soft sigh, her and her father never exchange words or emotions for that matter. Honestly, word around Mahofu Castle, Sumire was more of an obedient pup than a daughter to Kaiten. This was the norm to the young teenager as she got up in the proper way and soothe out her outfit as she turned and headed towards opposite direction. With an open of the door, Sumire winced at the bright sun rays reach to her eyes as she held up her hand to block it. Purple jewels glanced at the blue sky to help her pupils to adjust from such a dark home to a radiant outside. After her eyes had adjusted, Sumire decided to take her time to the castle. Her father had never given her a time that she needed to be there.
Sumire stopped for a moment at a market place as she smiled softly at the fruits. The young conjurer had a slight obsession with fruits. Oh. Right. With a soft shake of her head, Sumire headed towards the castle. Almost there, she saw a young girl, shorter than her but well built. Long brown hair. She was beautiful that was for certain but why was she entering into the Shogun's castle? Her father had her hidden away from most of the clans, only meeting one or two but not them all. She was to study of how to become a perfect wife. She learned how to sew, cook, cleaned, and handle affairs of the house. But Kaiten was not going to raise no weak heir either. He made sure she was able to handle herself in battles.
She was weak and unworthy in her father's eyes. His words still sting but she never showed that. Approached to the girl, she made sure to stand on her side and did another flawless bow as her hands were resting at her front, her right hand gently grasp the left as she maintain that position while straighten her spine, "Excuse me." Her voice was soft and gentle. Once she made sure that she wouldn't bump into the brown haired female, she headed inside the Shogun's castle.

Tatsuko wouldn't detect the girl who passed by her until she was nearly upon her. She gasped silently, raising her hand to her mouth as she muffled the noise further. She watched as the girl hastily entered the Shogun's estate. ' seems like she's got some urgent business too...what a demanding place.` Burying her curiousity for the girl's identity, she proceeded inside to meet the her father. As she approached the briefing hall, she would take notice that the girl who had passed her had arrived in the same room. Who was she? Was she a part of whatever assignment was to be delved out? Her curiosity was peaked as she now stood side by side with the girl. Her father hadn't appeared before them, it was still a bit early. Perhaps others were en route as well? She would speak softly to the woman at her side. " I hadn't expected others to be here to meet Raiu-Sama. Who might you be?" she asked, turning to face the girl with a rather bright and light smile. She extended her hand to the girl. " My name is Tatsuko"
Yokai Vanguard | Rank C | Squad Mission | No Min Post The Shogun's right hand, Seizo Raiu has requested the gathering of various nobles and retainers. These individuals are to report to Tetsu no Kabe, The Iron Wall, to investigate the rumors of various Yokai activity spikes. Upon arrival to the Wall the Vanguard is to report to the post commander for further intelligence. The group is advised to repel Yokai from populated civilian areas if encountered but do not engage without cause.
How vexing. There was nothing Ranmaru wanted more than to sleep for another hundred years. Apparently he was awoken because of some disturbance in the land of ninja. Since he and his clan were no ninja, he wondered why he was shaken from his fantastic century long cat nap for such trifles. However, since he was awake, he figured that he might as well see who was alive. Because of this, the man moved nonchalantly toward the castle, which housed the nations most prized and noble people. As a noble himself, he felt an immediate familiarity with the building. Its beauty and architecture once again survived another splash from the river of time. Still, since he was awake, he knew that he needed to find another subject to fascinate him. A curious eye fell upon the two ladies who entered the premise with rushed steps. Were they nobles from other clans? Since his clan often lost themselves along the course of time, it was impossible to gander who the young children were. Still, it was the most interesting thing he saw, which made him move over to the two. "Pardon me, but I cannot help but notice that you did not give a last name." Renmaru said as he approached. He either was not aware that the introduction was not for him, or did not care. "For example, my name is Renmaru Hogosha. Since our lineage is quite relevant in these parts, it helps others to identify your status in our society." He said bluntly. While he was a mild pariah among his people for his obsession over niche research, (as well as his lack of manners and social awareness), he still held prestige because of his clan's legacy. After all, who had the good confidence to isolate themselves from the protection of the Hogosha?

ooc :: So, I haven't set up Haru's exact post layout yet, so this'll have to do for now, sorry. Also, post isn't the best. Drained from the day. Better posts will come, promise
After a light scolding from his father the night before, Fudoharu had decided to sleep in. Unluckily enough, Teki had other ideas. Once the suns rays peeked through the window, the miniature sized lion cub took it upon itself to go on a slight hunt. The prey? The pink-haired Enjo's hand that had fallen out of bed the night before. Stealthily the cat crept into the room, ears perked for any sign of stirring from his "master," and once the prime opportunity reared its ugly head, bit down hard on Haru's index finger. A yelp of pain escaped his room, catching his fathers ear.
Shigeki, Fudoharu's father, walked down the hall and poked his head just into sight. "Oh good, you're up! Get dressed. You're leaving," he said before vanishing again. As he disappeared back down the hall, he shouted back an answer to the question Haru had yet to ask. "To the Shogun's Castle!" No doubt it had something to do with the his assignment to guard the Mahofu princess, which just made Haru sigh in irritation. However, a dutiful clan-member he was, and his mission was ironclad. There was no escaping this.
A few hours later and Haru left. His father was yelling in annoyance, something about his lack of urgency towards the order he was given. Haru yelled unpleasant slurs in response before darting off to avoid a literal firefight with his father. Although he was seen as somewhat of a prodigy by the clan, his methods and techniques were still far below a level where he could take on someone as experienced as his own dad, let alone the fact that his father was the head of the Enjo's disciplinary force.
As he neared the castle, a stirring in his hood made the boys eye twitch. 'If this damned cat wakes up right now, I'm going to lose it,' he thought, remembering how much of a struggle it was to catch the thing in the first place. Teki and Haru didn't particularly get along very much, but Haru was the only one willing to take care of the cub. For whatever reason that may be, the two were stuck together for better or worse, and deep down, Fudoharu enjoyed the felines company. The closer he got to the Shogun's castle, the more he could make out the shapes of people. He knew some of them were guards, but a few he didn't recognize. One of which was a brown haired girl who seemed like she had been training that day, and the other bowed before making her way inside.
"That must be her, the Undead Princess," he muttered under his breath with a soft sigh. His steps became lighter, not trying to alert anyone to his presence until she was further inside. Fudoharu was going to put off meeting her as long as possible, which already wasn't long enough. As he passed the brown haired girl, he offered a firm nod, but said nothing. His father didn't tell him exactly 'why' they were going to the Shogun's castle, but from the looks of things, there were going to be more than just the princess..... Great.
Once she had entered, Sumire slid out of her sandals and stepped up on the floor as she put on the house shoes that was already there and made her way to the briefing room. Once she entered, she saw her father but he seemed to be focus on something that was on the table so she remained quiet. Headed to stand by him and to do- 'I hadn't expected others to be here to meet Raiu-Sama. Who might you be?' Sumire looked at this girl with a hint of surprise and confusion as she also glanced behind her to see if the browned haired female was talking to her. She was. With that, she looked back and saw the outstretched hand and the stranger introduced herself. How... odd? A handshake? So her last name was Tatsuko?
She didn't know who this person was. Should she do a formal or informal bow? To be safe instead of sorry, she prepared herself to do a bow but that was before a man had joined them. The raven haired female immediately gave the man respect and space. Upon hearing his name, she went ahead to be safe than sorry. Yet, she was surprised that he had went ahead and gave them his first name. Firstly, the purple-eyed girl did the formal bow towards the man first with her hands clasped at her lap, "Hajimemashite, Hogosha-san. I am Mahofu Sumire." Then she turned on the ball of her foot, her body facing Tatsuko, with another formal bow as her back and neck was straight but eyes were to the floor, "Pleased to meet you as well, Tatsuko-chan." Then she stood up, her body straight but her hands rested at the lower part of her abdomen. "Pardon me, Tatsuko-chan, but I believe that we are also to meet the Shogun, but I could be wrong. My father was called upon this meeting as well." How odd, what could be so important that the other clans were here? Sumire was also cautious, from what she heard, Hogosha and Mahofu has the tendency to despite each other.

A door would slide open at the front of the room, a kneeling seated female would be seen with her hand on the door who would scoot inside the door, followed by a second female in the same manner. The two would face the group as they spoke. " Bow before Taisho Raiu, Seizo, leader of the Raiu clan and right hand of Lord Yoshitsune, Shogun of Zaishin and the Land of Iron." The two women bowed themselves as surefooted steps echoed through the now silent room. " A man who stood approximately six feet in height with dual colored hair, brown with black bangs would stand before them, glaring down at them. His eyes were an amber-bronzed color but seemed to burn with an unparalleled wrath. His left hand fell on his black coat, trimmed with crimson and gold.
His eyes shifted between those in the room, recognizing only his daughter in the group personally, the remainder would be by name and title of their family alone. He clicked his teeth. " Jeeze. Seems like your other team mates couldn't even show up on time. " His words were distant and somewhat cold, but held a significant sarcastic tone. " The others will have to be briefed by those who bothered to make it in a timely manner." He would snap his fingers, causing a poof of smoke to appear before him that would give birth to a scroll. Opening the scroll with both hands, he would clear his throat. " Ahem. The following personel are required to report to Tetsu no Kabe, the Iron Wall for this assignment. " Sumire of the Mahofu Clan, Fudoharu of the Seinaru Enjo Clan, Tatsuko and Ishikura of the Raiu Clan, Ranmaru and Daichi of the Hogosha clan and leading this team is Hitori, Seishiro who will be present shortly. The team assigned is to gather intelligence from the officer in charge at the wall and investigate further into the reports of Yokai attacking civilian populations near the border of our lands and the Great Shinobi Nations. If you do encounter these creatures, you are to assess the situation and report back to the wall, only engage in combat if absolutely necessary. " He paused, observing their reactions. He was positive that the group had never seen real combat, save their leader and perhaps the Mahofu girl considering Kaiten's....methods. Even his own daughter was a novice on the battlefield, having only dojo training to support her. He lazily scratched his neck before folding his arms across his chest. " Your lord is depending on you all to make this mission successful. Don't fail him." With that, Seizo would turn and hastily exit the room, the two women bowing to him as he left and would follow, closing the door the way they came. As he moved down the hall and out of earshot, he would murmur to himself. " Lord Yoshitsune...I hope you know what you're doing." His absence would open the floor to several questions...mostly being who their leader was as the room was short...assumable the leader of their team.
A Mahofu? Ranmaru had secret hopes that the vile miasma clan had died off since his last hundred year slumber. The desecration of the dead was something he truthfully found appalling to his very core. Still, she was one of the five sacred clans, which meant that she was meant to be shown respect. Before Tatsuko had a chance to respond, official ceremonies were called into effect. Ranmaru bowed formally as was expected of him. It was unique to see a Raiu had been appointed as head of the five clans. He could not remember what the last one was, but figured that this was not the case. When he heard the brash manner of which the shogun spoken, he was even more enamored with him.
'What impressive rhetoric.' Ranmaru thought in awe. He appreciated how abrupt he was with his manner of speech. It made the man easier to trust and to appreciate. As he paid attention to the names, he noticed that the Tatsuko of curiosity was also part of the leading head's clan. Ranmaru pondered why the girl did not use that as a beacon of pride, since she did not use it in her introductions. Before he could ponder too long, however, he heard that Daichi had also been awoken from his slumber. Daichi was another clan member who also did not fall into the perfect mold of their clan. The fact that he had not appeared yet did not surprise Ranmaru. What did surprise him, however, was that the Hogosha were expected to fight immediately. After a hundred year rest, all knowledge from the previous life is lost. This results in very little combat prowess carrying over from one life to the next. Still, if that was the assignment by the current head, then that was what would be done. He awaited for this Hitori to arrive and lead their group. There seemed to be little else to do.
When the door opened, Sumire's attention went to the two females. As Seizo approached, Sumire did the formal bow as her eyes glazed over to her father. He did a half bow... and there was the look of annoyance on his face. Confused, she stood back up and said nothing. Seizo's eyes were onto Tatsuko as she glanced towards the girl. Did they know each other? He mentioned about the other teammates. More was supposed to arrive? A scroll appeared and Sumire heard her name first which caused her to blush a little bit from the sudden attention. As the male went on, she can't help to get a sigh of relief until he mentioned Tatsuko. Ah. So they did know each other. Maybe of same blood? As each name was spoken, Sumire absorbed it to try to get much information as possible. They were to go to the wall and investigate about the Yokai... Yokai? She learned about them. Not all of them were discovered but she learned quite a few in the mythology book as part of her teaching. Guess they weren't myths after all. Just as fast as he entered, he exited as Sumire did another formal bow. When she straighten up, she noticed her father was headed to her way as her eyes remained at the floor.
Kaiten, tall as Seizo, maybe a bit shorter with pure raven black hair stopped at Sumire's side, leaned slightly to talk low enough that only Sumire can hear, "Do not fail or dishonor me." "Hai, Otล-san" The answer seemed to satisfy him as he left the room as well. Sumire watched for a moment then glanced around, wondering what to do now. Not everyone has arrived and they were to be lead by someone named Hitori Seishiro. Where was this person? Sumire noticed a table, almost center of the room if not off a bit in the corner, with hot tea steaming from the spout. With that, she walked towards the table, did the perfect seiza, "Would any of you like some tea as well?" Sumire questioned as she started to get ready by organizing the cups and plates.

From high atop her perch, Sei could see the various comings and goings of those around her. This was a spot that she had always found herself when she wanted to relax and simply people watch. The roof of the building gave her a good view of the entrance to the palace where she was summoned to. In truth she had been there for a number of hours just watching the plumed and puffy nobles come and go. There was something about their nature which just simply rubbed her the wrong way. She hated how they always looked down on those who were not lucky enough to be born into a rich family. In truth it disgusted her. Letting out a sigh she snapped her fingers and engulfed herself in a shroud of faint blue light. Her body twisted, shifted, and shrunk until all that remained was a black cat with a blow tied to its neck. [1/1] The cat jumped from the perch to another lower and then again lower until she was on the path to the palace. Trotting her way up the stairs and into the maze that was the corridors of the building. Before long she found herself outside of the main audience room. The cat pranced into the room, overall apart from the bow on its neck it looked just like a normal black house cat. About the same size as an adult cat though its fur was sleek and shiny. Though the cat simply sat upon its haunches staring at the four before it. The raven haired, purple eyed Sumire. The elegantly dressed Ranmaru, and the somewhat casually dressed Fudoharu. Then alongside them was the fair complected Tatsuko, cute. The cat would wait to see who would act or speak first. It wanted to see how they would react to an unknown. Though she knew full well the Elders knew who she was, having performed odd jobs for them through the years. When they wanted someone to disappear, or a building sabotaged, or information stolen or planted.

Fudoharu stood in the corner, slightly apart from the rest of the people. As Seizo entered and gave the instructions and clarified their reason for gathering here, he listened, and only nodded when his name was mentioned. A slight smirk played on his lips at the mention of a monster attacking nearby villages, but it quickly evaporated when they were told that their task was simply to observe. A let down, for sure. Haru was excited by the prospect of hunting monsters, and he was looking forward to encountering one. He wanted to harvest the various beasts of the land in order to make odd and eccentric teas that had never been tasted before. Perhaps another day.
As Seizo left the group, Fudoharu's eyes trained on Sumire, watching as she moved to the table and asked if anyone else wished to indulge in some tea. He rolled his eyes. "No thanks," he said gruffly, barely loud enough for her to hear. Annoyance was clear in his voice, though she most likely was unaware as to his particular assignment, so his annoyance would be unjustified should she pick up on it. As a strange cat entered their midst, Fudoharu's hood shifted furiously before a small feline face popped out over his shoulder. Teki, his companion, jumped down onto the floor and cautiously walked towards the other cat. Should anyone care to take note, they would notice that Teki wasn't a typical cat. It was a tiny lion, complete with a mane. Unlike other lions, his size was stunted due to some unfamiliar reason, and his mentality was still that of a kitten.
The two rarely got along. Although they've spent most of their time together, they had a unique tendency to get under each other's skin with relative ease. In fact, the simple act of Teki making his entrance caused Fudoharu's eye to twitch. "Damn cat," he muttered, to which the small lion turned and stuck a tongue out at the pink-haired Enjo before continuing its tentative traipse towards the other feline.
Tea? Well even though this woman was part of that abomination of a clan, at least she had some manners. "It would be a pleasure." Ranmaru said politely with a tilt of his head. He ignored the rudeness of the child with a pet lion but paid a fraction of attention to the black cat. For some reason looking at the black cat made him want to throw salt at it. Intellectually he knew that was an instinct to dispel illusions and disguises, but consciously he wondered why such an instinct would come from looking at the cat. He decided quickly, however, that putting too much thought would be a bore, and thus not worth it. Besides, tea was much more imperative, as it gave him a chance to educate on all of these youngsters all of the culture they no doubt have lost in the hundred years of change.
Before he was allowed to go in, he eyed from the corner a kneeling boy. Although the child appeared no older than thirteen, Ranmaru knew him as one of the most revered elders in the Hogosha clan. His divinity was so pure that he kept himself a child in order to not be tainted with the lust and desires of men. Ranmaru looked back at the girl and smiled gently. "Do save me a cup. I will only be a moment." He said softly. Ranmaru then moved over to the boy on his knees and bowed a few feet from him.
"For you to be awakened, my lord, means that the world is shifting far more than the flows of standard fate." Ranmaru said pointedly. Although it took a considerable answer to care about why all of these strange happenstances were occurring, he knew that this was one of those dilemmas which needed to be sorted now. "Indeed. It is no hyperbole to state that the future of our whole way of life depends on what comes in the next few months." The boy said without looking up. "It is for this reason that you have been given an assignment, Ranmaru. You are to be the retainer of Tatsuko Raiu." The boy stated. Ranmaru gasped at the revelation.
"An assignment? I have never been given one before." Ranmaru said astonished. The Hogosha were not often assigned goals due to their need to preserve the histories of the five clans. The clan often served as the last line of defense against Yokai forces, which meant that they were never put on duties such as retainers. Yes there were some fighters, but their goals have always been preservation. Furthermore, given Ranmaru's reputation to care more about research than people, to corral him to a task has never happened in the several hundred years he has existed. This was not something one just dropped on a Hogosha, especially Ranmaru.
"Tatsuko is... unique. As such, she needs a certain amount of guidance along her journey." The elder boy responded. Ranmaru's eyes narrowed. "You're speaking in vague terms." He said suspiciously. "And you have your assignment. See it through, Ranmaru." The boy said definitively. Ranmaru knew that no further information would come from him, and if he pressed further, then the boy would literally turn to stone in front of him just to spite Ranmaru. The Hogosha were stubborn like that. He let out a sigh, but accepted his duty with a bow. The man turned around and found Tatsuko.
"Lady Tatsuko. I am to serve." He said with a formal bow a few feet in front of her. While this was way too much effort for him, it was inevitable. Once their leader came and they could partake in work, Ranmaru could then find more time to slack off. Until then, he was to do his duty to serve Tatsuko Raiu.
The purple hue caught something moving in the shadows as her head turned fast and her entire body tensed. Her heart was slow and her breathing was focused. Then she saw a cat. With a slow exhale and sigh of relief, she slightly calm down some, but not completely. She had forgotten one of her father's training for her. To never let her guard down. So stupid! She silently and slowly beat herself up mentally for forgetting something so important. She could always punish herself later. As her mind was going over different punishments that she can do to herself, the same cat that was in the shadows had sat before the group and seemed to be watching them. How curious!
Sumire's head slightly tilted towards the feline. She wanted to pet it but she knew better. Most cats, when they see a hand coming, their fight or flight kicks in and she did not wish to stress the cat. Instead, she reached out slowly and carefully for a cup and poured some scolding hot tea, "I'm.. not sure if tea is safe for cats... but here you go!" She said with a smile. If one was observant, they could see the smile did not match her eyes. She gently slid the tea towards the cat but not too close. That was when she noticed the other cat coming, but this was more like a tiny lion! How adorable. She too poured tea for the midget lion. As her back remained straight, she leaned forward so the beautiful midnight cat and the short lion could hear her, "You both are very pretty. She must be so silly! Talking to cats. Her father wouldn't approve of this that was for sure. Luckily, he wasn't in the room anymore so she didn't have to worry as much.
Hearing Ranmaru's respond, she does a soft nod and eyes to the floor, "Hai, Hogosha-san." With that, she poured him some tea as well and set it on the table on top of a saucer. With a soft sigh, she put away the teapot onto the burner that was in the middle of the table and moved her hands onto her laps as her back remained straight up while still in seiza position as she waited for their next move or if anyone else requested for some tea.

Ishikura hated being late, having been pulled into some side business with some old acquaintance of his. He unfortunately was just now arriving. He wore his Armor and Cloak, what he would call his formal wear for when he normally would be in front of his Superiors. Once again though, he was late so in the back of his mind it irritated him. He stopped in front of the sliding door to the meeting room everyone was residing in. He reached down, and slid it open, stepped in and closed the door behind him. Ishikura looked over the few that were in the room, before locking eyes with Tatsuko. He immediately bowed, out of respect for her position in the family. 'Kura had no quarrel with her, but he did with her Father, Seizo. Though he kept that to himself. "It is always a pleasure to see you, Lady Tetsuko. I do appologize for being late. May I ask what I missed? I will find time to personally apologize to your Father later." Kura rose from that bow. He scanned over the room before stopping at the titular Undead Princess. "Sumire, it has been awhile, good to see you." Golden eyes locked with her's, giving a friendly smile. He continued looking around until he caught sight of Fudoharu. Looking over him, a very slight rose tint seemed to appear on his face. 'Keep it together 'Kuraaaa.' He thought to himself, coughing some, trying to relieve some tension, 'Note to self, talk to him later'. "To all that I do not know, I am Ishikura Raiu, of the Raiu Branch Family. It is wonderful to meet you all." A smaller bow was given before he found a wall to lean against, for the time being, waiting to hear just what they were all summoned for.
