((Going to combine two posts into one for the sake of brevity.))

Agni's fan hit the ground with as much force as could be expected, taking out a pole and causing it to fall away from them. There was a flash of green light and the winds petered out prematurely, but not before the damage was done: the pole rested against the outer wall, net in tatters around it. That left just a field of whirring blades in between the two genin and freedom (of a sort).

---

"Every time you people do anything I get a huge inferiority complex," Hanae quipped, looking much less concerned by the giant wind explosion than she had about many of the other things she'd seen that day. Was she growing jaded? Was this the first sign of wisdom gracing her head? Nay! She was just kind of sad she couldn't make explosions like that!

Well, that said, there was still the matter of the deck-piercing drills. Agni was probably starting to feel tired with all his crazy actions, she figured, so that meant it was up to her to finally be able to do something! Maybe. Perhaps. She hatched a plan, one that would require utmost precision and timing in footwork for one person, and the ability to land safely for the other one.

"Right, I'll get us over there," she informed Agni as she attached strings to the remains of her mokujin puppet. "You're gonna pop out of this bad boy here in a hot second, then I'mma run over and join you. Good plan? Great plan!"

She chucked the mokujin chunk--strings still attached--toward the opening in the net, then formed a single-handed seal and prodded Agni in the side. If he were willing, he'd be spat out at the end of her strings, which would snap as a result.

"Guts! Guts! Guts!" she shouted, hyping herself up as she sprinted off the overseers' stand. When her first foot found air, a small pillar of stone shot up to support her. No sooner had she left it behind than the dummies below struck and destroyed it, but that was of no consequence; she was practically blinded by the combination of her mad dash and probable head injury anyway, so she just kept running. No more than four seconds later, she would stick a landing by the wall.

"How was that?!" she cried, pumping herself up even further. Then a bout of wooziness hit her and she almost lost her lunch.

User ImageAgni staggered one step to the side after seeing the technique hit the mark, but quickly right himself. Someone of this rank would not be able to so easily release a technique that was perhaps the strongest they could make on their own. Nonetheless, he still found the time to give Hanae a supportive thumbs up when she commented about how amazed she was. Not to worry. She, too, can do these things with enough practice.

He didn't want Hanae to feel inferior, but at the same time, Agni hadn't even given Hanae's help one consideration. He had expected, from the beginning, to shoulder all of the burden of finding the way out. It simply felt natural to him, even if it was perhaps unnatural for a genin to feel so responsible over another exam contestant. However, he wasn't pig-headed. When Hanae offered her help, he attentively listened to what she had to offer.

So... That she was going to use her puppet rang alarm bells in Agni's head right from the get-go. Didn't her last two puppets spontaneously malfunction? Well, no matter. The person behind the blankly staring mask tried to think positively. Third time was the charm.

But well, it turned out Agni was worrying for no reason. He wasn't stuffed into the puppet as he feared. He was merely poked as the stands finally crumbled, and then somehow shot out of the end of the strings (because despite all the misgivings, he was willing deep down inside).

The strings snapped, Agni landed without difficulty and immediately turned around to make sure of the safety of others. Hanae led the pack, sprinting above the bladed dummies on platforms of stone. Presumably, the observers were not far behind her, also making their way across with relative ease.

Quite politely, after Hanae's gutsy show, Agni gave her a round of applause, that was promptly interrupted when he leaned forward to try and help the woozy looking Hanae. If she looked like she was going to keel over, he'd catch her. Otherwise, he just patted and rubbed her back to try and help her quickly pass through the feeling.

Agni looked quickly over Hanae to make sure she hadn't gotten hurt, then he looked to the other side of the wall. What was the situation in the stands? Was it safe to walk around on the ground past this wall? Could he use this wall to get to the other arenas?

Hanae caught herself. Quite gracelessly, of course, but she did manage to avoid keeling over. She would need a few moments to work through her bout of queasiness.

-----

The stands were a mess of common people--from major and minor villages alike--panicking and some of the shinobi in the audience being totally cool-headed about the situation. There was some sort of heavy fog rolling through the stands, but it seemed to start thinning out once the vents were summarily sealed off by some unseen person.

Outside the fighting parts of the arenas, there wasn't much that looked like it would pose a danger to the escapees. The area had been kept mostly clear so the audience would focus on the show, leaving only a few random things like cleaning supplies and some emergency medical equipment lying about. They were now uniquely positioned to strike the nets around the other arenas from the outside, if they so chose, but they also could beeline for one of the (blocked) exits. There were distant clangs as though something metallic was moving somewhere in the building, but the combination of the dummies whirring, the people panicking, and the exits all being blocked made it nearly impossible to discern more.

-----

"Hurk," Hanae grunted as she righted herself again. She picked up the remaining chunk of Kuku and hugged it to her chest like a stuffed animal. The act brought some light back to her eyes. After assessing the situation, she turned toward Agni and spoke: "Okay, man, here's the deal: s**t's crazy, but sticking with you has gotten me this far and I'm not about to look a gift horse in the mouth, know what I'm sayin'? My take is the other kiddos are probably good, since the minnow I fought in round one was pretty crazy powerful just like you. If there's gears behind those big doors falling, I can probably get us out, but I'll need to get at 'em first. So whether we go up or just mosey on over to one of the ones down here, it's your choice."

((Semi-quick post. Just gonna assume the overseers are coming with/safe.))

User ImageAgni nodded, understanding what Hanae said, but still unable to shake off the looming worry. He was truly, beneath everything, quite nosy. Over concerned when he didn't need to be. She spoke sense. Not just about Minnow, who Agni assumed was Minowa, being capable of handling himself, but also about focusing on creating an entrance.

Still, he really couldn't rest easy.

Not wanting to leave any regrets, Agni wove a series of hand seals as he responded, "You're right. We need to open the doors first... but still..." As his fingers settled in the final cross, a short command, "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu," was muttered and two clones appeared to Agni's sides. Without a word, they moved to find their people. "I have two others I need to know are safe," Agni explained as he slumped forward, catching himself with his hands on his knees. After taking a few deep breaths, he straightened up.

His mask, hiding his face, was a godsend. It was difficult to tell just how exhausted (or not) Agni was through the unchanging fox's face. "Let's go now," he signalled his readiness as he made his way to the big doors.

"Oi!" Hanae cried when Agni slumped. She reached out to steady him, then took a step back when the strength of his fortitude shone through. There weren't any noticeable wounds on him, so hopefully this fatigue wasn't due to injury. She couldn't see his face, but just judging by how he carried himself, he seemed... not irritated, but desperate, or maybe worried? Was there an emotional component here? Or, wait, was he tuckered out after all those big moves earlier?

The girl trotted just ahead of him as the duo made their way to the slab of metal covering the exit. Injuries and emotional turmoil weren't things she could heal, but she could buy some time to let him take a breather. When they got to the door, she quickly looked for a control panel and, on seeing none, did an about-face and looked Agni in the eye slits.

"This'll take a minute or two, so watch my back. I used to know an officer in the UHV's Star branch! You know, the awesome ones who kicked a** and took names? A pitiful door like this shouldn't stand a chance!" She puffed out her chest proudly, Kuku's torso tucked under one arm. Then, after a second, she seemed to remember who she was talking to and backpedaled a bit: "Wait, sorry, that's... mm, yeah, my bad. I don't really have any affiliations with them, just trying to sound cool. Not a good look right now... Hope your friends are alright..."

After floundering for another second, she gave up and walked over to the side of the exit hallway, a few steps away from the metal wall. She took her headband off her head and wrapped it instead around her fist, then hauled off and smacked the wall. The horns on her headband left noticeable marks, which spread into cracks before falling away with another hit. On the other side of the head-sized hole was a dark space big enough for a person to stand in, containing at least part of the mechanism to move and lock in the door. When she spotted it, Hanae attached some strings and started mucking about with it, shoving her arm through the hole up to her shoulder.

"Hey, Mr. Agni," she called out to the other Genin, "what do your folks do for a living? The Frost is practically empty nowadays, what with the UHV nabbing anyone able-bodied who isn't working the land. So we've got, like, a bunch of farmers, a couple restaurants, and a school, but that's it. My family's a bunch of fishers, so we got a pass, and my teacher's got some condition where he sleeps a lot even when he doesn't want to, so he got a pass too."

((This one counts as a resting post.))

User ImageGold eyes stared right back at Hanae through the eye slits. Unblinking. True to his silent character, he nodded without a word when his companion explained what needed to be done. The mention of a UHV affiliate didn't seem to phase him. While surprised, it was a shock that was easily covered, hidden so as not to cause any ripples on the exterior.

Hearing Hanae's sudden backpedaling, however, did incite a response from him. "It's okay," he tried to assure her that he held no hard feelings for who she knew, "It's not like everyone in the UHV is bad. That being said, we also don't know for sure if they're really behind this attack."

Agni faced the side opposite the door. He was, as he agreed to do, watching Hanae's back. Therefore, he couldn't see what she was doing, but he could hear enough to guess. It certainly sounded like it was a lot rougher than what he had imagined. However, who was he to judge? He was no expert.

Since Hanae elicited small talk and she was the one working, Agni indulged her in case it helped her concentrate. "Both sides of my family have served Kiri for generations," he answered simply, "By the way, your opponent in the last round also has a strong background, so don't worry so much about what we can do. You're quite good yourself from what I've seen."

Wait, Minnow had been strong even by the standards of those crazy main villagers? So... she didn't have to feel bad about losing? This daughter of a fisherman lost to a fish and it was just to be expected? Hanae... really had no idea how to process that information. Kiri must be a strange place, she concluded.

"The way you put that, it sounds like you were in the royal guard or somethin'. You even have those? Are those a thing anymore?"

There was a loud groan from inside the wall, then a clang. She'd freed the locks holding the door down; now it was just a matter of spinning gears to raise it. Easy as pie? Quite possibly, depending on the difficulty of the pie! She wasn't a pastry chef, so she couldn't say for sure.

The gate groaned and started to slide upwards. As it did, a torrent of sound rushed in: sounds of armored troops rushing through the halls, orders being barked by dozens of military men throughout the building, the clanging of metal on metal. As soon as the door reached waist height, it became obvious that there was someone on the other side waiting for the duo: two rows of armored goons were awaiting their escape. Behind them sat a half-dozen cages, each big enough to uncomfortably house a person.

Hanae's face went ghost-white. The would-be Frost shinobi immediately recognized the armor of the UHV, and could guess what the cages were for. Quick as she could, she re-engaged the locks on the gate and made a few hand seals with her other hand. A horde of clones matching her appearance flickered into existence, then vanished in a spray of green sparks. Without waiting, she did the same thing again, and this time the illusory clones stuck around and started making obnoxious noises at the would-be attackers.

"Go," she mouthed at Agni as she yanked her arm out of the wall. In her haste, she hadn't yet severed the strings she'd been using to control the door, a fact which drove her barely repressed panic up to the surface, manifesting on her face plain as day.

User ImageAgain, Hanae's jabbering was greeted with silence. A royal guard? Agni figured the ANBU were probably something like that. In which case, he wasn't a part of it, but perhaps he would be in the future. However, he hadn't meant anything like the ANBU or any kind of royal guard. He had just meant that his family had a long history of rolling out shinobi in general.

The barking of men as the gates opened caught Agni's attention, and for the first time, he paused his vigilant watch to glance behind him. It was a worrying sight, what could be seen in the small opening afforded by the just opened door. He caught sight of even the cages behind the guards, and it was only because of the mask that Agni looked so emotionless at the sight of the new threat.

In the first place, he wasn't going to let Hanae trail behind him while they were being chased. While Hanae mouthed go, his own hand reached out to grab her arm and pull her along. At first, he didn't understand the reason behind the panic written on her face, assuming it was just the culmination of the enemies she had seen. However, when he yanked on her and felt resistance, while also noticing that her far arm hung awkwardly back, he understood.

"Ladies first," was the only explanation he gave as, in one smooth movement, Agni kai'd with one hand while his body, since he couldn't pull Hanae towards him, pivoted around the genin to get behind her. He faced the guards, his back pushing on Hanae's to usher her forwards while the hand that had kai'd held the arm that was trapped in an attempt to force the chakra strings, he assumed it to be chakra strings because he couldn't see it, to release.

After all this, would they still have time to run? Agni wasn't sure, but he figured he'd figure something out.

Thump. Was this masked man a prince? So gentlemanly! So suave! Taking her hand, then holding her so close in such a precarious situation! Who did that but the one and only Prince of this, her very own fairy tale?! Hanae, thinking very rationally and critically about the current dynamic between her and her fellow escapee, decided she was thoroughly okay with the way things were going between them. There was still the matter of their impending capture, however.

She felt her strings snap with Agni's help, and not a moment later her arm was freed from the wall. At the same time, her illusion petered out and vanished in a burst of green sparks, leaving the UHV soldiers with an unobstructed view of the duo. As a unit, they whipped out weighted nets and started winding up to throw them, only for a hellishly loud BANG to startle them. A couple lost their footing. A full half of the group immediately charged off toward the source of the noise, leaving only a handful behind.

"You got this, me," Hanae told herself under her breath. Then, spinning around to face their shared enemies, she spoke louder: "We got this, Ags!"

Two nets flew toward the duo, verdant sparks arcing between them. A third net was readied, but its wielder held back, seemingly expecting some sort of trickery. (2x nets: B-Rank to break free from, D-Rank to dodge or intercept, they interrupt Chakra.)

Though reluctantly, Hanae let go of Agni's hand and dove out of the way of the net coming for her. She spat a pellet of water toward the other one, temporarily shorting it out, but not stopping it. Then, for her pièce de résistance: a couple of quick hand seals, and a pipe over the guards burst, showering them in a deluge of what looked like bilge water.

Hanae was not much of one for plans (beyond "punch 'em inna FACE", of course). Perhaps because of that fact, she thought this one was quite a devious one: she'd soak the enemy in water, weighing them down and dropping both their morale and mobility! The game was practically hers already, those fools!

User ImageThe glaringly obvious meaning of Hanae's current expression did not escape Enpisee's attention. However, he acted as if he didn't see it, the impassive mask making it all the more difficult to tell where he was looking or feeling.

It was very convenient in hiding the eyebrow that Agni involuntarily raised as he wondered inside, "Do we really got this? Do we?". He dodged to the side with the finest ninja trickery to avoid the net aimed at him. Ah yes. The secret arts of the cha cha slide, "Slide to the left." Meanwhile, Hanae had dodged the other way, and did something interesting.

With the enemy soaked in wonder, Agni briefly considered if this changed his opinion of the fight ahead of him.

Mm... Nope, not really, it was unfortunate to say. He didn't know any raiton, or else that dirty water would have been an absolutely wonderful conductor.

Although, wait... No. Nah, nevermind. Agni couldn't see anything that looked like it could pack the power he needed. However, he could feel through rumbles and static that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up on end, that there was another fight taking place in the stands. With his chakra levels at their current levels and the state of the enemy's forces yet unknown... he should probably regroup with those stronger.

The sensible choice, as a genin, would be to regroup. However, Hanae was so excited that he figured, with the enemy constrained to such tight quarters, that he could at least try and humor her for a small bit.

Quickly, Agni molded his chakra with a series of hand seals and back stepped, falling out of Hanae's line of sight. In a flash, his mask was on and off, used in lieu of a weapon to generate a cyclone of fuuton chakra that charged forwards, the effects of the B-rank Kamaitachi technique. In the ensuing gale, Agni safely affixed the mask back to his face, before much more than that he looked like he had a fair, well-proportioned face could be seen.

The tornado grew larger as it moved forwards, and as Agni wasn't very far from the gate, the cyclone was likewise almost inside the tunnel behind the gate almost as soon as it had been cast, filling it up and generally causing a mess in the constrained space. The pipes, already broken by Hanae, were likely a flying around in that wind, along with anything else that could be picked up.

If this attack didn't finish them, then Agni wasn't sure what to do next. He bent his head to demonstrate exhaustion. This many large scale techniques in one sitting? After doing some mental math, he determined a normal genin should have collapsed by now.

While the UHV grunts were surprised by the depth of Hanae's tactics, they were actually swept away by Agni's wind blast. Future scholars may debate which course of action was better--throwing the enemy into a wall or soaking them to the bone in sewage water--but only one of them seemed to have had any noticeable effect. The soldiers collapsed in a heap at the opposite side of the hall, then slowly started to pick themselves up.

Down the hallway to the left there was a tremendous clamor, as though a great battle had just begun. Coincidentally, a noxious-looking fog started to roll in from that direction too. Hanae, sensing an opportunity to effect an exit, jogged over to the right, placed her hands on the ground, and made a conveyor belt of earth under the UHV soldiers. Their shields sputtered to life just enough to disperse the Chakra in that technique, so she just did it again and shuttled them off into the encroaching fog.

"See? Told ya we got this!" she hollered over to Agni, blissfully unaware that she'd barely missed seeing the most handsome face to enter her life thus far. Not that she could picture it even if it were described. There had to be a face under that mask, for sure, but the mask was so entrenched in her idea of who Agni was that she couldn't imagine him without it. It was more a part of his identity (to her) that it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say it was more important (to her) than the "Enpisee" part of his name. Such a well-proportioned face would have shattered her worldview. She may have fainted then and there, if only she'd seen it.

In a fairly good mood, she trotted over to Agni and offered him her shoulder. "So, Ags, I vote we don't go toward the spooky fog of spookiness. There might be a way out if we go the other way, or maybe we'll run into some of the other examinees. Ooh, maybe minnow! I feel like Minnow would just blast a hole through the wall and get out that way. Or, or! We could just go back the way we came and get to another arena that way. Oh god, so many choices...! Decision paralysis... setting in...!"

User ImageAgni hadn't seen any gas masks on the soldiers that had been swept into the gas, and much as he wished to give them closer inspection to verify their identities, it wasn't worth it to venture into the gas if there was no promise of masks.

Therefore, he could only nod in agreement to Hanae's suggestion while politely patting Hanae's shoulder away. He wasn't against physical contact. It was only that they didn't know when they would be attacked, and he didn't want to burden Hanae needlessly.

"Let's go to the explosions earlier," Agni offered Hanae some direction as she entered "decision paralysis," his pats gently guiding her in the direction that would take them to the Iron arena that the boom booms seemed to have come from. He was almost sure Minnows would be there, and if Minnows was there, then 1000% certain that the Mizukage would be there. It would be a safe place to drop Hanae off, and maybe he can also recuperate for a few seconds before setting off again.

Internally, Agni laughed at that thought. Recuperate? Around Lord Inka? Oh man. He'd been wearing this mask too long if he actually thought of it like that. Well, whatever. In that case, he just needed to get in as much rest while walking in that direction.

Exit to Iron Arena if Hanae agrees

The clones are capable of performing techniques on their own and can even bleed, but will usually disperse after one or two decent blows. They can also disperse on their own. Shadow clones can't be distinguished from the original even by doujutsu. This clone can use any technique the user knows. A clone can have anywhere from 1 Chakra to all but 1 Chakra of the user's pool. The same goes for stamina. Each clone takes 15 Chakra to create. The clone disperses if it receives a hit C-Rank or higher or runs out of Chakra or Stamina. When a clone is dispersed, any knowledge it gained while active is transferred to the original, and any remaining Chakra and Stamina is returned to the user. Shadow clones may not leave the same thread that the user is in. The only exception is that a village leader may use shadow clones to aid them in managing the village, although the clones still cannot leave the village.

Hanae breathed a sigh of relief as Agni successfully negated her decision paralysis with a tactical decision-bombing of the situation. Not quite as much bombing as the literal explosions down the hall indicated, but whatever. This beautiful young man was telling her to head that way, so Hanae just happily assumed there was a good reason and hurried off in that direction.
