Spirit Healers

_________________ "Your mortal journey has not yet come to an end. I shall be your guide back to the realm of the living."

Death is not always permanent.

When a Pae'il sustains a mortal wound, their soul leaves their body to wander the realm of spirits. The fate of their soul is determined by the deeds and actions of their mortal life. Heroes go on to rest until they are needed again; cowards wander aimlessly, becoming tormented and losing themselves to the spirit realm.

Death is never the end.

The Spirit World

_____The Spirit World (or Realm) is a vast expanse of torment and emotion. Every manner of nightmare hunts in the Spirit World, feeding on despair and fear. The monstrosities of the Spirit World are infinite, and unfit for mortal minds.

What happens to a Pae's soul when they die?
The soul, or essence of life, leaves the flesh and bone behind for nature, to traverse the Spirit World on the next step of their eternal journey. A goodly Pae'il who has lived a life of virtue and charity will find the path to the Summerland withthin three sunsets. Cowards, deceitful and evil Pae'il will wander forever in the Spirit World, never to rest, never to be reborn.

What is the Summerland?
This is a paradise where Pae'il souls go to rest. They can be called upon by those still living who have the Gift of Sight (able to see or talk to spirits, Rakshashas have this ability by default) for guidance. They also will be called upon by the Island herself when heroes are needed. They will be born again, without the knowledge of who they once were, unless they are awakened by a powerful magic source.

Can a Pae with the gift of sight see the whole spirit world, or just Summerland?
They will only see the spirit world until they've mastered their ability and can open their third eye to see past the desolate torment of the spirit world, to the glory that is Summerland. This includes Rakshashas. They can't see past the Spirit World until they learn how to control their Sight.

What happens to Pae'il who are killed maliciously? Or in battle?
Innocents will always be guided to the Summerland. Depending on if the death was heroic or cowardly, will determine the fate. Those killed maliciously, without honor, enter the spirit world full of anger. That anger tends to turn them into vengeful spirits who choose to remain in the spirit world to torment others and seek their revenge. These particular spirits, even though they did not go to the Summerland; because they died before their time, can still be reborn if the Island requires them.

Many Pae'il of the past, killed in the act that caused the war between ancients and blood pae'il remained as vengeful spirits on the isle.

The Mortal Body

_____When a Pae'il passes on, their body is offered up to nature. It is different for each type of Pae'il, based on their beliefs and elements.

Angels and Demons
Upon death, their body begins to lose color. After 3 sunsets, it will be void of all color, making the body indistinguishable. It will then turn to dust, returning to the island.

Pae'il who become disconnected from Telrunya do not die, but will become lost souls. Their body will fade, but their soul will remain in a sort of limbo. Magically (no one knows how) a statue will appear in the Hall of Lost Souls in the catacombs of Telrunya City. To return to the living, they must be awoken by someone. Their soul will inhabit the statue, turning it into a flesh and bone body. The Pae'il will retain all memories from before they became lost, but will know nothing of what happened while they were in limbo.

((The Hall of Lost Souls is strictly for those folks who become active after a long period of inactivity. This explains where their pae went while the rest of the RP world moved on. To circumvent this, and create your own reason for where the Pae went, you must clear it with an RP mod.))

Faeries
Upon death, their body begins to lose color. After 3 sunsets it will be void of all color, making the body indistinguishable. It will then turn to sparkles and spread across the island, dispersing their magic back to the island.

((The Hall of Lost Souls is primarily used for demons and angels, however some faerie pae have been located among the hidden statues. It is currently unknown where a majority of the fae souls connect as it is believed the guardians made them.so they just return to the astral plain as ideas for future fae.))

Naiad
Upon death, their body begins to lose color. After 3 sunsets, it will be void of all color, making the body indistinguishable. It will then turn to bubbles, returning to the waters of Telrunya. If a Naiad dies on land (due to injury or drying out), the body will still turn to bubbles and float towards the nearest water source.
((Inactive Naiads are not allowed in the Hall of Lost Souls because they'd have no way out, and Telrunya City is controlled by the Light Pae'il. So upon returning to activity, a Naiad is said to have become a statue in Alu Spring, the Naiad's palace. The statues decorate the halls of the palace as non of them know the truth.))

Faun
Upon death, their body begins to lose color. After 3 sunsets, it will be void of all color, making the body indistinguishable. It will then sink down into the earth and will grow into a tree of the clan the Faun belonged. Most Faun belong to Laisidhiel's clan, so they will simply return to the earth that gave them life.

((Inactive Faun, like Naiad, aren't allowed in Telrunya City, so for now, they become faces within the carved mural lining the main level.))

Mythical
Upon death, their body begins to lose color. After 3 sunsets, it will be void of all color, making the body indistinguishable. It will then disappear without trace.

They are not naturally from Telrunya, so their body simply returns home.

Deity
They do not die. They fade away if Pae'il stop believing in their powers. They are immortal, and will live through any injury no matter how grave. They can regenerate on their own and do not need healers. They can only be subdued if one wishes to get rid of the influence of one of the Deity Pae'il.

The Role of the Spirit Healers

_____Awakened by the destruction of the Spirit Pillar, these Pae'il, called Spirit Healers, are burdened with the power of Resurgence, and a knowledge of the Spirit World. Spirit Healers have not been needed in the mortal realm for thousands of years, so they've remained dormant.

The Squires of the Holy Order of the Light are the catalyst that brings them back to life. Some have been reborn already to this dispensation, others will appear as children. Their powers will awaken and their purpose revealed.

Powers
  • Resurgence - they have the ability to guide a soul back into their mortal body.
  • Sight - they can see the Spirit World and traverse the infinite plain in order to find souls.
  • Judgement - they can judge a Pae'il hero or coward, and charge a penalty for those who died cowardly.

Duties
  • To bring dead Pae'il back to life. Limit one time. Any Pae'il dying more than once is required to be resurrected by a Staff member's Spirit Healer only. And there will be a high cost. (not gold--high cost ICly)
  • There is a time limit on bringing Pae'il back to life: 3 sunsets. Once their body is gone, the soul cannot return.
  • Collect the fee. The fee for player-controlled resurrections is the Pae'ils tongue. This is done so they cannot speak of the horrors of the Spirit World.
  • The fee for second death is sight, and only staff-controlled spirit healers will handle this.
  • Incredibly heroic deaths can be negotiated to not include a fee.
  • They cannot be biased or prejudiced. Spirit Healers are bound to enter the spirit world when they are asked, and when they find a dead body. They will be able to tell how long a Pae'ils been dead by the coloring.
  • To enter the Spirit World, each Spirit Healer must prepare thyself. Spirit energy is drawn to mortal energy; moreso in the land of the dead, so they must be quick when searching for the soul. They must also blindfold themselves with a special ritual scarf, or they will go blind themselves from witnessing the horror that is the Spirit World.
  • Children Spirit Healers can resurrect small critters.
  • Teenage Spirit Healers can resurrect bigger creatures, and fairies. But fairies tend to stick to their own burial rites, so its hard to find a dead one.
  • Adult Spirit Healers can bring back Pae'il, and any creature.
  • Give a chocolate bar to the newly revived Pae'il, so their soul can calm down and adjust to the shock.

Dangers
  • As mentioned, the risk of going blind if not properly prepared and blindfolded before entering the Spirit World.
  • After the third sunset, the spirit cannot re-enter the Living world, so must be escorted either to Summerland or left to wander.
  • Prolonged exposure to the Spirit World can damage the psyche of any Pae'il. Spirit Healers are exempt from this.
  • Spirit Healers must get to the spirit before Strafe gets to the body. Strafe can force resurgence without a soul nearby. If this happens, the soul is trapped, and forever bound to Strafe.
  • Spirit Healers must never speak of the Spirit World lest they lose their own tongue. Only in sacred and holy places among their own can it be discussed.
  • Spirit Healers do not leave their flesh and bone body behind, so in the Spirit World, they will be hunted.
  • Newly revived Pae'il are vulnerable until their soul accepts being back in the flesh and bone body. This can take anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks. Chocolate helps speed up the process, but the Pae'il must acquire it (No player is allowed to just say their pae has any on hand. Only Spirit Healers and cacao/sugar cane farmers will have access to it.) This is called Death Sickness and any Pae'il not fully recovered can die permanently if killed during Death Sickness.
