I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: Mi'ra
Age: 18 (3557.3.19)
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Candidate
Physical Description: Mi'ra is a slim, short young man who always tries to keep himself looking neat. His light brown hair is always pulled back if he's wearing it long or styled nicely when worn short, bangs always hanging attractively to frame his hazel eyes (if he has them. He changes his hair style...a lot.) His skin is fair with a smattering of freckles over the bridge of his nose and his cheeks that really stand out if he's been out in the sun for a while. He generally seems to have some kind of smile on his face and he always takes the time to ensure he looks good before leaving his weyr. Mi'ra is constantly up on the latest fashion trends and spends his hard earned Marks on new clothes for himself as often as he can.
Personality: Mi'ra is a bundle of energy and seems to always go a mile a minute. He's very expressive when he speaks and is quite animated, using his hands and occasionally his entire body to emphasize whatever it is he's saying. He's hard to exhaust and when his mind is set on a task he can go for hours without needing to rest, unsatisfied until he finishes whatever it is. Mi'ra thrives in a social environment and is at his best when he's around other people. Without friends he's lost and he always makes a point to introduce himself and find someone to befriend in new situations. He'll claim to be friends with everyone in the Weyr and, while others might argue the 'friend' status, he certainly has a pretty large collection of names and faces. Mi'ra's curious nature leads him to pursue knowledge and new skills constantly, turning him into a bit of a jack of all trades, and yet a master of none. There's always something new to grab his attention and Mi'ra will obsess over a new topic for a few weeks before something else claims it. He'd be a good person to have on a trivia team for sure!

While a very outgoing and social person, Mi'ra doesn't always rub people the right way. He has a bad habit of butting into conversations and making them about him in one way or another. If someone recently got a bit of jewelry for their dragon, he'd be quick to tell them about the grand chest plate he'd gotten for his. Or if someone was sharing a story about a stroke of bad luck, Mi'ra would be quick to one-up them with a sad story of his own. He doesn't mean to step on toes and thinks he's simply participating in the conversation, but it definitely grates on nerves very easily. Mi'ra also has a huge flare for the dramatics, making mountains out of molehills. A little cut becomes the worst wound in the history of Threadfighting, a cold leaves him bedridden for weeks, a slight against him turns into the biggest smear campaign he's ever seen. It certainly makes his storytelling interesting but when he's complaining or whining it's caused more than a few eye rolls. Mi'ra is a self-proclaimed slave to fashion and spends his Marks on material possessions for himself and for Reminiscorth. He always walks a fine line between spending more than he should and saving up, but in his mind he could always sell something of his if he was in dire need of money for one reason or another. The secure life in the Weyr lets him indulge himself, though, and more often than not he'll spend whatever he gets on a new tunic, bit of jewelry, or another unnecessary luxurious item.
Positive Trait List Outgoing, energetic, curious
Negative Trait List Dramatic, materialistic, braggart
History: Mi'ra was born in High Reaches Weyr into a little family of dragon riders. His mother and father both rode green dragons and his elder brother was eventually selected by a blue. Mi'ra was raised as any weyrbrat was, familiar with dragons and with all the other kids in the creche. He had a fairly average upbringing and life right up until he was allowed to become a Candidate. Thread returned during his time in the dorms, taking all three of his family members in the first Fall.

The loss devastated Mi'ra to the point of needing to stop Standing for a bit due to his mental state. He didn't want to overwhelm the baby dragons with his low mood and thoughts and the mind healers agreed that taking time to process his loss would be for the best. It was a full year and a half of visits to the mind healers and coming to terms with his sadness before Mi'ra felt well enough to Stand again, and with each passing clutch a bit of his personality returned. Seeing the baby dragons and knowing he could fly in the place of his mother, father, and brother gave him strength and the courage to continue to grow and heal.

Finally, during the massive, bloody double hatching, an unnoticed egg trembled and hatched unbeknownst to the commotion going on on the sands. The small white inside took his time observing all of the remaining Candidates before picking His without any preamble or fuss. He waddled over to Mi'ra, unseen as the Candidate was watching the bloodbath before him, and it wasn't until he felt a little nose nudge his hand that he even knew Reminiscorth was there. Mi'ra felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as he left the sands with his own dragon, not at all bothered that Reminiscorth was white. He had a dragon now, they would fly and fight Thread together, and Mi'ra would fill the shoes his family had left behind.

During training the duo were hard working but were usually at the back of the pack when physical drills came into play. For a long time Reminiscorth struggled to lift Mi'ra even with his slight build and his stamina was never the best, but together they persevered and kept up enough to graduate on time. Now they are ready to take on the life of a dragon and his rider, ready to protect Pern, and ready to become the best they can be.
Other: Mi'ra is all about that dragon rider life. If he ever has any reason to go outside the Weyr or interact with people who don't often see dragon riders he will eat up any sort of fawning or awe they may toss his way.

DRAGON
Name: Reminiscorth
Origin of Name: Reminiscor is Latin for 'remember, reminisce, retrospect, recollect, recall', which is what a pensieve is used for.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: White
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: A Pensieve
Personality Reminiscorth is a quiet, withdrawn dragon who prefers to watch and observe. His siblings and cousins are a bit much for him with their big personalities but he does enjoy the company of his more subdued family, coming out of his shell a bit around them. When he feels like he's in good company Reminiscorth is a very insightful and thoughtful dragon, intelligent and a bit wise beyond his years. He has a mind like a steel trap and seems to be able to recall any memory at a moment's notice - for lack of a Pernese word, Reminiscorth has a near photographic memory. He has a high tolerance for simple-minded dragons, more than happy to sit and explain things to them until they're satisfied, but is easily annoyed by loud, overbearing, or dominating dragons. While just a white, he'll have no problem giving even the biggest bronze a cold shoulder or a judgmental stare should they earn it. Reminiscorth does cherish the few friends that understand him and his quiet ways and is a loyal, lifelong friend in return.
Size: 13'
Physical Attributes: Reminiscorth is a wisp of a dragon, short and slim and ready to be blown away by a stiff breeze. He is elegant in his slimness and cuts a beautiful silhouette with a slightly elongated face and headknobs, but beyond that he's fairly proportioned.
Additional Notes: Reminiscorth's stamina is abysmal. He tries hard, he really does, but he can barely make it through a full rotation.

Why Me: Reminiscorth saw a kindred spirit in Mi'ra where his curiosity was concerned. While they have many differences between them - Mi'ra is energetic and outgoing while Reminiscorth is low-energy and withdrawn - the shared love of knowledge was impossible to ignore. Reminiscorth knew he needed a rider who would understand his own desires to constantly learn, otherwise he'd surely go insane. Their differences help balance one another out. Reminiscorth has helped Mi'ra settle himself and calm down while Mi'ra has helped forge strong bonds between Reminiscorth and other riders and dragons. Mi'ra makes Reminiscorth feel like the most majestic bronze dragon in all of High Reaches as well, showering him with gifts and presents at every turn. While Reminiscorth doesn't have low self-esteem, he is a white at High Reaches and he knows his place, but it does feel nice to be appreciated.

What were they like in weyrling training? Reminiscorth and Mi'ra were a great team during training. With something to put his energy and focus on around the clock, Mi'ra kept himself out of too much trouble and Reminiscorth certainly helped keep him from getting distracted. They struggled with stamina training but did well enough to get through graduation with no remedial lessons or being held back.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Mi'ra was a social butterfly before Reminiscorth came along and that didn't change after Impression. While Mi'ra likes to think he's friends with everyone there's certainly those that find him obnoxious. Reminiscorth was quiet around the majority of his siblings and cousins but managed to forge a few close relationships with the riders and dragons who could stand his own rider's presence for any extended period of time.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? Mi'ra isn't necessarily a rule breaker but his high energy and constant talking certainly got him in a bit of trouble from time to time. When Reminiscorth came along he could at least have someone to speak to silently during lessons and that helped keep him on the Weyrlingmaster's good side. Strict rules and lessons weren't a problem for either of them, neither excited nor irritated with them. Their joint love of learning certainly helped as well!

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Mi'ra was heartbroken. He was such good friends with them, oh, it's horrible! Terrible! He was a mess for days, eyes red and hair a rare mess, he even stopped eating for a few days. Reminiscorth was saddened by the loss but took it far better than Mi'ra who always loved to play up anything. The death of their peers honestly did shake him and realize his own mortality, but as usual he had to be in mourning for longer than was needed.

How did they do during Threadfall? So far so good! They've gotten a few scars here and there, but no life-altering injuries yet. With Reminiscorth's low stamina they usually make at least a trip or two back to the Weyr to freshen up and that certainly helps keep them in the green where injuries are concerned.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Mi'ra is ready to go! Pern's greatest enemy doesn't stand a chance against them! They'll be the greatest pair the Weyr has ever seen! Just you wait and see! Reminiscorth has more realistic goals, those being to fight as long as they can and to have successful flights that are low in serious injury. He wants to protect his home and the whole of Pern just as any dragon does, just without the pomp and circumstance Mi'ra feels goes with it.

Anything else? May tweak and add if I think of more, but I'll mention if anything changes!

We're Going to Disneyworld!

Name: K’vah, formerly Kevahan
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual - Especially older men
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat
Physical Description: K’vah inherited his father’s height, for better or for worse, and is built like a tank. He stands solidly at 6’8” with broad shoulders, large hands, and a body covered in muscle. He works hard to keep himself in shape, and once had been a popular grunt among the Candidates and Lower Cavern workers. Not only was he easy to spot, he could always reach the highest shelves, and never hesitated carrying the heaviest loads. His skin is a pale tan, a touch darker than some of the natives, but a fair-deal fairer than some of his siblings, and his father Sh’han. His eyes are a stormy grey-blue, with thick lashes to frame them. His hair is shoulder length, thick, and the dark-black of his father. He grows facial-hair with ease, and seems to dance between clean-shaven and more rugged. He could easily be considered handsome, though compared to some of his brothers, he’d probably look plain (in his opinion).

Personality: The first thing anyone notices about K’vah is that he is a gentle giant. Though he’s large and might be considered a brute as far as appearances go, he lacks much of the warrior spirit that many of his siblings possess. K’vah is better suited to the role of a caretaker, and for all his strength, is known to be surprisingly tender. He’s known to be a giant cinnamon roll of a man, and is always looking out for those in need. If his siblings need something, you can bet K’vah will do whatever he must to ensure they get what they want; if his friends need someone to lean upon, K’vah has a (large) shoulder to lean upon; new Candidate in the Weyr? You can bet K’vah will be the one man Welcome Wagon. New wingrider? He’ll welcome them into the fold with open arms. He might be intimidating to some, but has a mighty need to protect and care for all in High Reaches Weyr. The Weyr is family, after all, and K’vah has no trouble being the glue that binds them.

Any who think K’vah might be a pushover though are sadly mistaken. For though he is less loud-and-proud like some of his siblings, K’vah is known to be protective and overly so. When you cross his family, or his friends, you are crossing K’vah as well. He will pick sides, and that side will always be those he loves. He isn’t the sort of man who will forgive and forget, and he will fight tooth and nail for his loved ones honor and security. K’vah might be a gentle-giant, but hurt his loved ones, and you’ll face the wrath of a mama wher. K’vah will always be in their corner, sometimes blindly so.

To say that K’vah loves his family and his home is a bit of an understatement. K’vah was born in High Reaches Weyr and has no intention of going anywhere. His loyalty would never be in question, and he has no plans of leaving. While there is a strict hierarchy in place, K’vah doesn’t plan on fighting the status quo. He would much prefer to keep calm and avoid rocking the boat at all costs. Why? Because that sort of instability runs the risk of tearing them all apart. They run high enough risk of losing one another to Threadfall without adding politics into it. K’vah would much rather stay together in an imperfect place, than be scattered to the wind. Besides which, what place is perfect anyway?

Generous and affectionate by nature, K’vah tends to have many friends, though there are few who truly know the real him. It’s easy to think him incredibly open and warm, but it’s a small circle who can truly get to know him and all his sides. There’s more to him than just a caring giant, and he has his own fears, his own dreams, and desires. In fact, K’vah has a tendency to put others needs well before his own, which can leave him spreading himself far too thin among a great many. He would never dream of complaining, but K’vah hasn’t yet learned how to give himself the energy and care he lavishes so freely to others. While K’vah tries his hardest to give and give and give, he is only one man, and can only do so much. Still, he tries anyway, and has yet to learn how care for himself.

Positive Trait List Loyal, Caring, Gentle
Negative Trait List Self-Sacrificing, Guarded, Over-Protective
History: Kevahan has spent almost all of his life in High Reaches Weyr. As a weyrbrat, his life wasn’t particularly unusual. He had a handful of siblings, and two attentive parents (well, at least one attentive parent) and and entire Weyr to help keep tabs on him as he grew. He grew up in a secure environment, was fed and housed, and surrounded by dragons. He was, for the most part, a happy child who often followed his older siblings around, and cooed over the younger ones.
Perhaps the most traumatic experience during his childhood was when K’var and Sh’han were sent out of the Weyr. One moment his family was together, and then next, his father’s went away. He was accustomed to Sh’han and K’var having a busy schedule--tending Methoth and Xiasuth always came first, and any drills, or sweeps, meant that Kevahan understood he might not see much of them.

But this wasn’t simply a few days away. They were sent away by order of the Weyr and Kevahan didn’t entirely understand why. Rumors circulated--some claimed the new Weyrwoman had had enough and kicked them both to the curb, while others said the two had been unhappy with the order of things. Whatever the reason, Kevahan found himself quietly pining for his parents return. He missed them dearly, though he did his best to keep his devastation hidden. He knew better than to let his true feelings show, and with younger siblings to care for, he didn’t want to cause more worry or alarm.

Though K’var and Sh’han weren’t there, the creche took them in, and helped ensure they were raised, loved, and cared for. Kevahan, despite his youth, stepped up to the plate in his parents' absence. He had always been a bit of an old soul, despite his age, and this was ever apparent as he tried to fill the void his fathers had left. He checked in on all his siblings, did his best to distract the littles, and keep the older ones connected. Deep down, Kevahan feared that more of his siblings might be sent away (especially if they went against the traditional grain of High Reaches) and he did his best to encourage them not to rock the boat. While this put him at odds with his father’s teaching, his gentle hearts couldn’t bear the thought of the family being separated any further.

The Turn’s passed, and Kevahan grew. Dragonriding was a way of life, and though he dabbled in some crafts, some blacksmithing here, some wood carving there, it was Candidacy that he truly desired. Dragonriding ran through his blood, and he wanted nothing more than to meet his match. At Turn 14, he took his right to stand, and joined Candidacy just as he’d been born to do. It kept him busy, and he was certain it wouldn’t be long before he met his match.

Unfortunately, he didn’t Impress during his first Hatching. Or his second. Or his third. In fact, the Turn’s rolled by, and he went from a young, wide-eyed youth to a grown man. It got to the point where Kevahan went through the motions of Candidacy and had less excitement for the Hatchings, if only to keep himself from being disappointed when he inevitably was overlooked. Maybe he simply didn’t have what the dragons needed? Maybe his fate was to simply being support for the Weyr. Some of his siblings entered Candidacy and Impressed, but Kevahan was always left standing.

He had just entered his 24th Turn when he stood for Fianth and Rhianth’s clutches. Hatchings were a time to celebrate even if he had little hope on finding His. Oh, he certainly knew that he needed to keep his thoughts positive--and it wasn’t hard to be hopeful. His sister, Kedah, had been a Candidate, along with his youngest brother Shahvar. If he didn’t Impress, perhaps one of them would?

It was early on that a small blue dragon hatched shell, and tripped over his wings. He was clumsy, to say the least, and found himself burying his snout right into the Sands, not far from where Kevahan stood. Helping to right the little one, and remove his wing from beneath his newly hatched claws, Kevahan had begun to step away when everything changed. The blue gave a soft creel, looking up at him in both gratitude and pleasure. The burst of love and joy that filled him was indescribable. How considerate Kevahan was, how gentle, how loving, how perfect. Kevahan, Mine, your Nyenyezith needs you, just as I know you need me. Rest your worries with me, and take comfort knowing neither of us need ever be alone again. I am here, and we are together, just as we are destined to be.

K’vah would have waited a million more Turns for Nyenyezith to be hatched, for such a wait meant nothing with the little blue’s hearts enveloping his own. The Candidate might have waited Turns to find His, but the little blue darling was worth every moment of doubt.

To say there was a change in K’vah was an understatement. This most perfect, most beautiful blue was his world, and together, they were going to make Pern a better, and safer, place.

Other: K’vah comes from a large family and is a well-known face in the creche. He has a soft-spot for littles, and knows he makes an excellent jungle gym. He hopes to someday have a family his own, though as a dragonrider, his devotion now goes primarily to Nyenyezith.

He also likely has had a handful of relationships through the Turns, though none of have lasted more than a few months, and a few were casual, or on-and-off-again.

DRAGON
Name: Nyenyezith
Origin of Name: Nyenyezith’s name is derived from the Chichewa word “star” in association with the fact Lullabye’s are most often used as a sleep aid for infants. Though babies sleep through much of the day, many associate them with night time. Additionally, the song lyrics themselves references reference Jim Jr. as a star sweeper, and sweeping up stardust.

- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: La La Lu (Lady & the Tramp)

"La La Lu" is a song sung in the film, Lady and the Tramp, which is a lullaby performed by Darling to her newborn Jim Jr. The lyrics were written by Peggy Lee and Sonny Burke. It is a tender moment of the film where Lady is introduced to the baby.

(I"m sorry this is so short. There's just not a lot of data on this song.)

Personality Nyenyezith was born to be a mother...or at least a father. Like rider, like dragon, this little blue finds no greater joy than in caring for those in his clutch and those within the Weyr. Certainly, there are many loving hearts within the clutch, and this blue brings one more to the table. He is here to be a shoulder to lean upon, but also a blue that will remember their favorite things, and surprise them with gifts simply to see the joy in their eyes. He’s the sort of blue dragon who wants his clutchmates to stick together, and like his rider, help be the glue that binds them all together. Certainly, he would never dream on stepping on Mictecath or Anakumath’s toes--but the clutch is a large one, and they can’t always be on hand to ease the worries and cares of their (very many) clutchmates.

So Nyenyezith tries hard to fill in the gaps. His hearts are large, and he is (usually) a gentle touch. He has no qualms visiting his clutchmates in the infirmary, and certainly doesn’t mind providing entertainment as he might best be able. Any secrets, he can and will keep them; to know their joys and pleasures gives him nothing but happiness. And yet, Nyenyezith doesn’t just coo and fuss-- he parents, for better or for worse.

This means he not only will be there to support his clutchmates, but he won’t hesitate to stop and question their life choices if he thinks they’re doing something stupid. Did they double-check their straps? Nyenyezith remembers what happened during last Threadfall. And what of that brown he saw you cuddling up to on your ledge? Aren’t you at risk of having your hearts torn out? He’s heard about his reputation, thankyouvermuch. Don’t even get him started on all his clutchmates that seem to be fighting with one another! Nyenyezith will turn this flight right around if you can’t play nice--don’t make him count to ten! Yes, rest assured, this little blue has the best-intentions but can (and very much will) nag if he doesn’t think he’s being listened to, or is being ignored. This might drive away some of his friends, but he can’t help but pry into their affairs. He knows sometimes such concern is unwanted, and even unasked for, but he can’t help being who he is.

He can’t fuss over children or hatchlings right now, but he can fuss over his family, and his wingmates, and he will.

Though he can nag, more often than not, Nyenyezith is known more for being a mollycoddler. If he doesn’t think it will harm anything, and so long as he’s not genuinely concerned that spoiling his wingmates, rider, or hatchlings will upset any great balance, he might very well indulge them. In some cases where he should be firm, he might instead spoil. Additionally, he tends to be quite protective of those under his care, and he will certainly protect them fiercely. Don’t let this little chonk of a blue fool you -- he does have fangs and isn’t afraid to use them should anyone dare try to lift a claw against those he loves. Usually, though, he’s a gentle creature who is only too happy to shower his clutchmate and rider with affection. Love can change the world, he believes, and the world needs more affection.

Thoroughly tactile, he enjoys draping wings over those he cares about, or loosely twining tails. Cuddling is his favorite pastime, and the more of his clutchmates close to him the better. He might drive some crazy with his need to touch, but once again, Nyenyezith means no harm. He desperately wishes to have hatchlings his own, but since he cannot, he will simply need to find others in the Weyr who might not object to being parented.

As he grows and matures, he will likely live in a “Father knows best” sort of attitude--but for now, he’s simply a young and little blue. The older he gets, the more jealous he will likely become, particularly over the golds, bronzes, and browns of the Weyr--and especially of his own blue father, Krahsujunth. He tries his best to keep the pain of gold flights hidden, but everytime a queen glows, something within him despairs. He would never think of chasing a queen, if only because he is far, far too little to ever even have a remote possibility of cathcing one--but he can’t help but want what all his brown and bronze brothers get to have. The likelihood of any of them sharing a clutch with him, or letting him on the Sands, is practically slim to none… and he would never be so crass as to ask.

Yes, Nyenyezith can be a jealous creature by nature, and not just over the desire to become a parent. He knows his fussing and caring and love are likely less desired than, say, the likes of some of the golds and greens in the Weyr. He is certainly a loving and caring and protective blue, but within High Reaches, being a blue tends to mean little. He wants to be important, wants to be a cherished member of their family, and an important blue of the Weyr--and when he sees others living the life he desires, or getting the praise and affirmation he so seeks, he can’t help but quietly and secretly sulk elsehwere.

Paternal, Dedicated, Affectionate, Jealous, Nagging, Mollycoddling

Size: 23’
Physical Attributes: This delicate little blue is on the smaller side in terms of length, but on the heavier side in terms of weight. Everything about him is rather soft and stubby, from a short tail, to short limbs, and even short wings. He is also prone to being a touch overweight for a blue of his size, but that doesn’t seem to stop him! (Please note, a “touch” is an understatement.) His stamina suffers, but his short wings give him surprising agility.

His eyes are large, even for a dragon, but his hands and feet are small and dainty. He might not be the cutest dragon in the Weyr, simply due to her stockiness, but he radiates softness and is known to be an excellent cuddler.

Additional Notes: Like rider, like dragon, Nyenyezith adores littles and weyrbrats. He is happiest when he has someone or something to fuss over, or at least father, and has no qualms about simply adopting anyone who looks like they have a need for a father in their life.

Nyenyezith would prefer to catch a true love, as opposed to many--but where his hearts sing for devotion, his desire to be a father can often drive him from his ledge. He doesn’t want to be a heartbreaker, and yet, instinct says to father a clutch one must twin necks and tails--even if logically he knows the outcome will serve nothing but disappointment.

Why Me: Nyenyezith and K’vah are two peas in a pod. To start, they are both incredibly paternal individuals. That was, indeed, what drew Nyenyezith immediately over to K’vah. The large, gentle giant was just as family-oriented as this blue, and therefor, the two could and would quite easily understand one another’s needs and desires. Nyenyezith doesn’t have to hide who he is from K’vah, just as K’vah can give his hearts fully to Nyenyezith. Additionally, the two can fuss and care over one another, and need never fear being alone again. Even if Nyenyezith has no one to fuss over, he can always care of his rider; and K’vah will always keep an eye out for his most loving and faithful blue.

K’vah is already known for spreading himself too thin, and not focusing on his own wants and needs. Nyenyezith is only too happy to ensure His is getting the love, care, and attention he needs when K’vah might be too focused on others. On the flip side, K’vah overprotective nature means that he’ll keep close guard over his blue’s tender and gentle hearts. When Nyenyezith’s jealousy is at his greatest, K’vah will be there to soothe and support his blue. Additionally, K’vah can attempt to temper to his dragon’s nagging by suggesting a more gentle approach.

They are a match that is almost mirrored, but can grow and learn to get through life challenges together. K’vah need not be guarded around Nyenyezith, who will cherish his hearts, and support him from the very first moment they are together. And Nyenyezith need not brood or sulk alone. K’vah will give him all the support and encouragement he needs.

What were they like in weyrling training? K’vah and Nyenyezith were nothing but a reliable pair. K’vah was as devoted a High Reaches weyrling as you might ever find, and Nyenyezith was only too happy to participate in their lessons. The better prepared they were for what was to come, the better they could protect and care for their fellows. K’vah was only too happy to keep an eye on the younger weyrlings, or those that seemed to struggle, so he might offer support; Nynyezith, for his part, was always checking up on ensuring they were all getting their flappies in, or getting enough exercise, sleep, oiling, and feeding.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? K’vah is a big gentle teddy bear of a man, who certainly who tends to get along well with others. He likely already had some established friendships with any born and raised in High Reaches Weyr, but would have made a concerted effort in reaching out to those who he didn’t know or who came from Western. It’s possible there were personalities he didn’t get along well with, but without talking to players, it’s hard to say who.

Nyenyezith was always a caring and devoted brother to all his clutchmates--but he also potentially was a tattle-tale and could well find himself on the outs with certain circles. He had no problem telling Aviroth or the other Weyrlingmaster’s when rules were being broken, or if there was behavior he didn’t agree with. The rules of weyrling training are there for a reason, after all, and he’d rather avoid any of them get hurt by ignoring such important boundaries!

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? K’vah didn’t mind them. Growing up Weyrbred he was well accustomed to knowing what rules in the Weyr you might be able to bend, and which ones were important to follow. Weyrling rules he knows are incredibly important and don’t have much room to bend. He would have been on his best behavior, especially being an older weyrling. He wasn’t going to risk Nyenyezith’s life, or the lives of his fellow weyrlings.

Nyenyezith was much the same, and as stated above, probably willingly tattled on those who he found breaking, or bending, any such rule. Not on his watch!

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Both K’vah and Nyenyezith were quite devastated. While K’vah understood that there was a possibility that any one of them might not make it through weyrling training, he was completely unprepared for Cavera and K’ell’s death. Losing Aurelieth had been hard enough on Nyenyezith--but to lose another brother, and a cousin only tore open the wound on the blue’s hearts.

It was a bad day.

Even today, Nyenyezith thinks about those losses. How could he ever forget them? They were family, after all.

How did they do during Threadfall? Threadfall was rough, but as both made it to graduation, that’s something. Nyenyezith and K’vah made sure they did their best, but still wound up with some battle wounds. The blue got his First Blooding when they popped out of Between right into a nasty patch of wind blown Thread. The blue’s hip and right leg took the brunt of it, and K’vah had a tangle wrap right about his arm. Though his jacket took the brunt of the damage, both rider and dragon sport some ugly scars.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? K’vah was devastated when Thread returned. Though he had been preparing for it all his life, a small part of him didn’t truly believe it would return. When it did, he immediately grew both afraid of it, and angry at it. How dare it devastate Pern! How dare it risk his family, friends, and loved ones?

He lost friends during its return and misses them greatly. He now worries his fellow weyrlings are at risk, and likely tries to check up on them as he can. There is no getting around the devastation and pain Thread can and will bring--but it also gives him a purpose renewed.

Nyenyezith was born knowing only that The Enemy was meant to be destroyed. He fears more for his clutchmates and wingriders than he does for his own hide. If he can go down fighting and save the life of another, then you bet your bippy he will.

Anything else? Have another fam-jam dragon. Surely, there can’t be too many of them.

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: Tessiah (aka Tessi)
Age: 19
Sex: female
Sexual Orientation: undetermined
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: trader

Physical Description: When one thinks of a dragon rider... she would be the last thing one might picture. Short at barely 5'0” tall, lean, lithe and wiry with gentle slight curves. She looks far younger than her years. She appears to be soft, but that softness belies the strength hidden within. Her skin is a perfectly unblemished sunkissed tan, a small smattering of freckles just across the bridge of her pixie-like nose, a mouth with plump lips that smile generously and often, and ears that are just this side of too large. Her features, while not plump are soft and gentle. Her hair is a platinum blonde that is almost white, and when not up in the latest fashions hangs to her low back. She is fond of lush, rich textiles and figure flattering clothes, and fun,
fuctional accessories.

Personality:
She keeps her sights high and dreams even higher, too stubborn to be easily dissuaded even when she knows the odds are not in her favor. Somewhat naive, wanting to believe the best of everybody and everything, she tends to be easily crushed when her thoughts and beliefs are proven to be false. She tends to be emotional, feeling everything deeply, but she is quite cautious in allowing others to see how much she is affected by things. Though friendly, she isn't one to make friends easily, though those she does claim as friends won't find a more caring, loyal or devoted one. And she will spoil her friends with gifts and trinkets... anything to bring them a smile. While some might see her as soft or a pushover, she does have a core of steel, and if one pushes too hard she will push back. This lovely rose does have some sharp thorns...

Positive Trait List friendly, loyal, gentle
Negative Trait List naive, stubborn, lacks confidence

History: Born to two lower cavern workers at High Reaches, Tessiah grew up around and serving dragonriders. And from a very young age she determined she wanted to be one. Not through some childish idealistic fantasy, but knowing the good and bad and the costs of the lifestyle.

Her parents however wanted more for her. They couldn't afford to send her to a hall to learn a craft, but they wanted her to have a chance. She was better than them and deserved a better life, so they made arrangements with some traders who supplied the weyr, to have her apprentice with them until she was old enough to Stand if she still desired to. And if she didn't Stand or failed to Impress, she would have a backup plan.

She learned well, and was fairly fond of the life of the traders, travelling from place to place... She did not choose to return to the weyr as soon as she turned 14, she was learning too much. At 16 turns she got a crush on a local hold boy at the caravan's main home. As with many first loves, they were hot and heavy, believing they were destined to be together and all that. She was nearly ready to leave the caravan to be with him, but then was a Threadfall, which claimed his life. She was utterly devastated, and she remembered her earliest dream, of becoming a dragonrider. She returned to High Reaches, ready to become a candidate.

DRAGON
Name: Devanagarith

Origin of Name: (Sanskrit Devanagari) refers to the cintamani stone or wish fulfilling jewel in Buddhist and Hindu traditions. It is the equivalent of the philosopher's stone in western alchemic traditions. It is a legendary substance the is said to be capable of of transmuting common base metals into gold, as well as for the creation of the Elixir of life / immortality. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher's (Sorcerer's) Stone, a visit to Hagrid's hut at the foot of the school leads the trio (Harry, Ron and Hermione) to find a newspaper report stating there had been an attempted robbery of a Gringotts vault—the same vault that Hagrid and Harry had visited when the latter was getting his school supplies. A further indiscretion from Hagrid allows them to work out that the object kept under that trapdoor is a Philosopher's Stone, which grants its user immortality as well as the ability to turn any metal into pure gold. Harry is also informed by a centaur named Firenze in the forest that a plot to steal the Stone is being orchestrated by none other than Voldemort himself, who schemes to use it to be restored back to his body and return to power.

Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y have proven themselves
Inspiration: Philosopher's stone
Personality Loyal to the ends of Pern and beyond to those who have proven themselves worthy. His love is as deep and boundless as the oceans- he loves His rider, His family, His weyr without question. For them there is nothing he won't do. He would fly to the Red Star and back if someone wished it. And while Devana does anything and everything he can for others, he often forgets he is not a bottomless well that can give eternally without replenishment. It is up to His rider to to tell him when enough is enough and it is time to let others take over where he left off. Intelligent, he is often impatient with what he considers to be stupidity, but that covers a very large range. And Like his rider he is stubborn in ways that complement her.

Size: 32'
Physical Attributes: Almost as large as a small brown, Devana is trim and elegant with oversized wings, which could look ungainly or ridiculous on another, but he holds them in such a way as to not be noticed as such and an overly long tail.
Additional Notes: Because of his size, he has almost the same stamina of a small brown... but he lost the manuverability and dexterity of the smaller of his color.

Why Me: Though Tessiah had always had such dreams, there was a small fearful part of her that never thought that she was good enough. But Devana always knew differently. Tessiah was stronger than she haad always thought, and until she can find that confidence and strength within herself, Devana was more than willing to be that for her. As she would be able to temper his at times sharp edges. And if they managed to make it through the rigors of weyrlinghood and learn their lessons, they just might one day make a formidible force in the air.

- - -

What were they like in weyrling training? They did not do exceptionally well, nor were they at the bottom of the pack. Tessiah did have some trouble with certain academic aspects, but worked hard to do as well as possible, even if she had to take a few remedial lessons to catch up with the rest of her classmates. They did do exteremely well in flying lessons.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Though kind and social, they did not go out of their way to befriend everybody. Though after the disasterous Betweening lesson in which they lost Aviforth and Eshkarath, instead of closing off and pulling away, they actually opened up and sought out the company of their classmates more.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? Having grown up in the weyr, and then as part of a trading caravan, Tessiah was well used to rules and regulations. She knew there was reason for them, and they never bothered her any.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? As everyone else, they were shocked and devastated, but once the shock wore off, they sought out the others

How did they do during Threadfall? They were neither exceptional nor among the worst. They did perform admirably in bringing the firestone when it was their turn, but when fighting, they did catch a patch of silvery thread on the right side that required some time with the healers, but it healed well, if not without leaving some scars behind.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Born at High Reaches weyr, she had always heardd about thread, and how one day it would return... so when it did it came as no surprise. Even though she hadn't been at the weyr, with the return of Thread, she was old enough to Stand, so she returned home... And Devana was born to fight Thread. It is the meaning and purpose in life to this blue. He is a fighting dragon at High Reaches, and he knows and accepts his place.

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: S’ivu
Age:28
Sex:Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Harper Apprentice
Physical Description: S’ivu is moderately tall and wispy, more of a willow tree than a man. He’s never one to slouch and hold his head down low. He walks with his chin lift, and shoulders squared, making him seem taller than he truly is. Each of his limbs are thin and gangly in a foal sort of way. He stands primly, often with his hands crossed behind his back - looking awfully serious. He’s naturally tan, his face is dotted with dark freckles that seem endless (especially in the sunny months). He has patchy facial growing in, preferring to keep everything but the shadow on his chin shaved.

His face is thin, and angular. His nose is nearly upturned and seems to have broken and healed quite a few times. His lips are thin just like the rest of him. Its frequently worried between his teeth when he’s concentrating. S'ivu has shrewd green eyes. They’re a rich cheery spring green, and would look endlessly friendly if S'ivu ever smiled, which is a rare thing in itself. He has unruly auburn hair, tangling easily in curls. S’ivu often gets irritated with the ringlets curling in his face and ties it back often to keep it out of the way. He dresses rather practically, preferring leathers and boots in earthy colors. He has no interest in the clothing, usually picking out a miserably dull outfit for dressier occasions.

S’ivu does however does enjoy decorating his body with tattoos. He sat and suffered through intricate patterns along the backs of his hands made out of simple stripes and dots. He’ll tease that he has a bird in flight tattooed somewhere, but he’ll need a few drinks to want to show it off.

Personality: He is a disaster when it comes to craft, or anything finely detailed. He can’t see as many colors as most people claim, and he never inherited the want to make something look perfect. He however has such appreciation for those who have the patience to make such delicate, beautiful things. He’s too nervous to try. Terrible (unwarranted) critiques while finding his footing kept him from wanting to share things he creates. His self confidence in such matters has yet to blossom again.

S’ivu is honestly a hopeless romantic. He’s never without a new terrible romance to read, he writes his own (horrible) ones and always tosses them in the fire when he’s done lest he be shamed. He has quite the wandering imagination, his thoughts travel to beautiful places with handsome people. It’s hard to hear the the ballads of old, of the bonds strong of the ancient weyroman and leaders, and to not be left with a wanting void yawning in his heart. Better it flow through pen and ink, instead of making a fool of himself speaking it aloud.

S’ivu is not one who desires to control a situation, but one who will ride its wave. He will make the best out of the situation and give something his all, but will not seek to control anyone(or anything really). He’s not one to rise above his station, or have a want to. He’s content to sit at the same spot in life as long as he’s comfortable. The idea of ambition is something foreign to him, and it sounds like an awful lot of work.

S'ivu is quite affectionate with his close friends, finding trinkets for them from interesting places he’s visited or bright beautiful flowers. There is nothing romantic about this notion, and he is constantly giving little gifts. He will never pass up a hug and a trading words over a kitchen fire with some klah with them, for anything in the world. He enjoys spending time with the people he loves - charging best when he’s around them.

Positive Trait List Approachable, Romantic, Loyal
Negative Trait List Timid, Compliant, Lazy

History:
S’ivu was born to a Harper couple. His mother favored using her voice, and his father a gitar. The youngest out of two children, S’ivu never was quite sure where to have his life lead him. He jumped from craft to craft seeing if anything suited him. His hands proved too clumsy and impatient for plucking strings or applying beautiful paints. S’ivu had very little ambition and discipline to start learning a skill to stick with it. Seeing his older sister take after their mother, filling the halls with melodies he felt a bit out of place.

On search a particularly friendly brownrider’s dragon seemed to take an interest in S’ivu. The words used by the searchrider… stung, even if they were well meant. ”Seem’s crafts aren’t your calling.” That was putting it lightly. ”Perhaps you could try another direction. Maybe you’re more suited to standing for a clutch. You never know.”

S’ivu couldn’t say no, even if he was hopelessly trying to find his calling at the harper hall. He was raised on the ballads of Lessa and F’lar. Who didn’t dream of riding one of the great beasts of pern? And now… with Thread threatening all, maybe that searchrider was onto something.

Once he settled into weyrlife, he excelled at his lessons. He got along easily with his fellow candidates - and he needed to excel instead of endlessly pursue crafts like he had no care in the world. He stood whenever he could, soaking in all the knowledge he could - trying for once in his life to prove himself even if it was just to these little hatchlings.

At least a dragon emerging from a small, speckled egg called out to him. The darling, little white loped across the sands tripping snout over wings just to get to him. Even if the were caked in sand, membrane, and shards the hatchling scuffled their feed in excitement. Oh good, S’ivu darling! You haven’t given up waiting on your Xternuth! A wedge shaped head pressed eagerly under S’ivu’s hands. We’ll make the world more beautiful together.

Other: While he has no firelizards, he has a terrible soft spot for them. He likes to stop everything he’s doing to stop and point out a firelizard and watch them a while. He’s nervous around them, as they seem so delicate, but he is endlessly fascinated!

DRAGON
Name: Xternuth
Origin of Name: Externus means outsider in Latin, as Squibs are seen as outsiders of the wizarding community.

Inspiration: Squib is a human who is born with at least one magical parent, but does not inherit any magic from said parent.

Personality Xternuth is a dragon that comes off confident, but its from the fact he doesn’t really know any better. He has it in his mind that things simply must work out, so they just do! He’s a being very free from anxieties, fully throwing himself into present experiences. To those who don’t know Xternuth his unruffled exterior might look he’s cool and collected - if Xternuth’s head was filled with a little less fluff he might have been!

He’s quite the clumsy dragon. He isn’t as surefooted as some of his siblings. Even if he takes great to not bump into someone, he usually just knocks something over instead. For quite the little dragon, he certainly can make a mess of things when he isn’t paying attention. This pairs terribly with how terrible distracted he can be. He gains and loses interest very quickly. He sometimes will trail off mid sentence, and begin about a fresh topic rambling until he can be coaxed into finishing his original point.

Xternuth is an overfriendly creature. He picks up very poorly on natural boundaries and social cliques. He prefers just to wedge himself right next to someone he wishes to be speaking to, interrupting if he must! Those with enough patience to put up with some of his..quirks, will find him very kind. At least he doesn’t interrupt to say something rude! He’s usually commenting on pleasant weather or good hunting. He keeps up with the small talk and gossip of the weyr. He’s not the sly sort to sneak and eavesdrop on gossip. Simply by talking to everyone he gains many perspectives, and sometimes learns things he really ought to keep to himself. S’ivu sometimes has to regin his little dragon in, that not everyone wants to their personal business chattered about.

Size: 15’
Physical Attributes: The first thing noticeable about Xternuth’s isn’t their hide but their teeth! This white has a bit over an overbite, with the tips of his fangs just barely peeking from behind his lips. Xternuth is a very angular, boney dragon. He makes for a very uncomfortable sunning partner! His elbows are knobbly and he has a terrible habit of driving into the sides of those he doesn’t care for. Delicate and boney, his light frame helps keep him aloft. His head is a thin crescent moon in shape, his headknobs are slightly kinked in the middle, and space a bit far apart. It looks like they’re looking like they’re standing on end. His gait is a bit clumsy when he’s walking on the ground. His tail is prone to knocking things over, and he trips over his paws often.

Additional Notes: Xternuth will never be a hearts-breaker, being one to put his all into romantic pursuits. He has quite the soft spot for dragons of the lovely blue shade. This dragon is also a hoarder. If it happens to be gleaming or maybe has an interesting shape he’ll take it into his little hoard. He buries these things, and almost immediately forgets where he’s put them.

Why Me: While S’ivu felt like he belonged nowhere, Xternuth knew that they simply belonged with him. These two find their sense of home in one another. S’ivu is tactful, always able to guide his dear Xternuth when their lack of social graces might get them in trouble. Xternuth is friendly and ever encouraging, giving S’ivu more strength to try new things instead of just being content to let the waves of life push him along.
- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? They generally followed the middle of the pack. They followed instructions, sometimes it took them quite a few tries to understand something but they always tried their best in classes.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? S'ivu treats all with kindness - he likely had a few close friends perhaps people he practiced lesson contents with. Xternuth would have went out of his way to make friends with his weyrling class. His sibligs especially are very important to him.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons?
It took S’ivu some time to fully get his sealegs when it came to strict weyrling life, but the taste he got in candidacy gave him a foundation to build off of. The pair took their lessons quite seriously. Structure might not be for S’ivu, but he did his best to absorb all the knowledge he could.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between?
Xternuth in particular took the death of his blue brother Aviforth and brown Eskharath’s particularly hard. Xternuth is a dragon who thinks there is no consequences and life is something that should always end up sunny. It shook him profoundly to his core - remaining numb for quite some time. He mourned privately tucking the softest blankets under him in the quiet darkness of the night. Xternuth observes the sky, even now, in the softness of sunset to see if those now quite smaller shapes will blink into the clouds. Like no time had passed at all. He was friendly with every dragon - even if they weren’t friends - he was searching for their familiar faces for a long time after their young deaths. He felt their absence profoundly - too numb to call out for them. He is sometimes nervous when it comes to Betweening, asking more than once for proper coordinates “just to be safe”.

How did they do during Threadfall? Xternuth’s naturally clumsy, working against their favor. The pair of them are littered in healed ropey scars. Somehow luck’s been on their side to not have been hit anywhere to have critically injured the pair.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? S’ivu felt called to duty, as if this is a chance to prove himself. He’s coasted along in life long enough, maybe he’ll make his life mean something and making the world a little safer for others. Even if he has to risk himself… making life better for those he loves has to matter.

We're Going to Disneyworld!

User ImageName: Ky’ess (Kyosess)
Age: 24
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat
Physical Description:Standing at an average height, Kyosess is nothing if not just ordinary. His build is a bit triangular, broader at the shoulders and slimmer at the waist. He’s a light auburn in tone, though the rich tone is broken by large swatches of vitiligo over his body. A large swash over his face that races into his hairline, turning the deep brown locks swept into a forward, short style into an almost snow white with his tone. His left eye is a darker blue, while his right eye is a few shades lighter -- always looking a touch sad at any present time, and the slight bags under his eyes definitely give off a “defeated canine” look to him. Kyosess’ large, expressive eyes seemed to have skipped wearing his heart on his sleeve, and jumped to baring his emotions quite openly. His left hand and entire right arm, as well as varied speckling along the rest of his body, hidden away by clothing, are this same lighter color.

Kyosess dresses in tamer colors, typically a soft blue in shade like his mother’s dragon’s tone. At the very least, he tries to keep his chest and legs always covered by clothing, for he fears the sun will burn him easier. He carries himself with hesitation, shoulders hunched inwards some in some odd mix of wanting to blend into the background -- but also in some small desire to be seen.

He has quite an impressive threadscore down his shoulder and across his chest, as well as down his left hip and down to nearly his knee. Thankfully, the wound was only ever deep enough to scar, and Ky’ess has been lucky to not only walk away from the injury, but without a limp as well.

Personality: Never one to stand out, Kyosess had always been quite happy to be mostly the passed over face in the crowd. After all, people’s stories always needed the filler folk, and that was how Kyosess has always felt -- a background person, a wallflower, passable. His gentle disposition and softer nature certainly leaned in hard to this self-perception.

Beyond the shy wallflower is quite the gentle soul. Kyosess is kind to a fault, for any who come into a conversation with the man will find themselves at the soft wondering if they’re okay, if they’ve eaten recently. Perhaps in another life, his calling certainly could have been a healer. As it were, he simply collects those under his friendship umbrella like a wherry hen collecting her chicks under her wings. He’s loyal to a fault, for the few people he has in his life he would stick to them like metallic on a gold. It can almost play a bit negatively, as Kyosess’ loyalty doesn’t know any bounds -- even in the face of someone betraying him, or making a deliberate move to hurt the man, Kyosess will wait patiently in hopes that his friend would come around to him again.

Loyal to a fault, and so easily slipping into the background, Kyosess is deferent to a fault. Why rock the boat when you can take the direction of someone in charge? Nevermind in a Weyr setting, where rocking the wing and not following direction could get you and/or others killed? No, he takes directions to heart, happy to do what’s asked and told of him. He makes a good cog in the machine, holding those in positions above him to an almost reverent degree. Certainly they climbed up to their positions for excellent reasons, and they should be given their well of respect for such.

Yet his more motherly nature can sometimes be a bit.. Much. While he will wait for someone who wronged him, it wont stop the mental gymnastics that Kyosess will leap to to somehow bring the blame all back to him. His foot could get stepped on, and yet Kyosess would place the blame on him for putting his in the walking path of someone else. He craves that social connection, having very few in a Weyr full of people he interacts with between candidacy and kitchen duties. His eye is always drawn to bronze dragons and their riders--not in some bid to possibly impress a bronze himself, but in some aching hearted attempt at filling in the hole his missing father has left.
Positive Trait List Caring, Loyal, Deferent
Negative Trait List Milquetoast, Anxious, Lonely
History: The start to Kyosess’ life was rather standard of a weyrbrat. He was born in High Reaches Weyr to his bluerider mother, a product of a greenflight with an unaffiliated bronzerider who had been visiting the Weyr on his own business and had a bit of fun along the way. He grew up mainly in his mother’s care, only in the creche when she had wing duties or to care for her dragon before Kyosess was grown enough to help out. He grew with the starry-eyed love that came from growing up in a Weyr, surrounded by dragons -- loving to watch each hatching with rapt attention.

To find your dragon, your other half. The one who could only know you better than you knew yourself…
Kyosess was utterly enamored with the notion, and counted down each and every turn until he was able to enter candidacy with shy eagerness that came with a child wanting to enter adulthood early. Enter he did… and stand, and be left standing -- again, and again, and again. Turns soon passed him by, as he took up to working in the kitchens between clutches. His mother had him take heart, because surely Kyosess’ dragon was in the next clutch and was waiting to meet him. Each clutch, her gentle encouragement would boost him up -- and proceed to crash his hope each time he was left standing. It ached to think that dragon after dragon would find him lacking. Doubt seeped in, with the heavy questions that lingered. Was he not good enough? If he hadn’t grown up a weyrbrat, would he have even been searched?

He begged his mother for his father’s name, wanting to learn anything he could about the man. Maybe if Kyosess knew more about him.. Though all he got was a name, Ylzure, an unaffiliated bronzerider. Though any tries to reach out to him was met with silence. He did find out about a halfsister in Western, about the same age as him, though he wasn’t quite so sure about reaching out to her as he had been to Ylzure.

As he was beginning to lose hope, and began to become more settled on the idea of working in the kitchens once he would age out of his bid for candidacy, the worst nightmare he could have imagined came true -- thread had returned. What he always found a touch silly but never hurt to be prepared suddenly transformed into gratefulness that the possibility had been prepared for.

Until thread took her away shortly after it’s return, gone in an instant by a clump falling on top of her, and Kyosess suddenly felt so… alone the turns after her death.

It wouldn’t be until a fated day standing before the double clutch that Kyosess’ luck seemed to have run its course. In the midst of the fights and chaos, the only egg Kyosess ever needed to hatch had split open, revealing the little blue within. While it took him some time to find his way, it wouldn’t be terribly long before the small, lanky blue would find himself at the man’s feet, staring at Kyosess with all the love and devotion that the candidate craved.

Don’t worry, Kyosess, your Hiraeth will make sure you’re never alone again.
Other: Half brother to Ezyzu of Khamaith in Western Weyr.

DRAGON
Name: Hiraeth
Origin of Name: Hiraeth - Taken from the Welsh concept of longing for home. It cannot be completely translated, and implies missing something, or missing home that no longer exists.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Yes
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Yes
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Yes
Inspiration: ‘I’m Still Here’ - Treasure Planet [Caleb Hyles’ 2019 Cover]
Personality A gentle soul, Hiraeth is the soulful outsider-looking-in. He creaves that connection in life, though his own insecurities keep the distance of ’Wanting that connection’ and ’Making that connection’ quite large. He craves the connections of his family members, of his fellow dragons within the Weyr, and though he is surrounded by his kin in such a mass setting, Hiraeth still often finds himself at his own council on his ledge -- or with his rider wrapped in one of his wings. Connections are a powerful thing, after all -- they can boost you up, but they also leave you at the most vulnerable state to be torn down, and Hiraeth isn’t sure if he’d like to expose himself to openly to be personally at risk.

Yet the dragon who watches and lingers at the edge has such a bright glow at his core, a small glimmer of hope in his hearts that he can be as equally loved and accepted as his siblings, his cousins, his fellow dragons. He’s unsure in making connections, yet holds such a fierce hope that he can share his ledge with a dragon he can devote his hearts to, totally and completely -- and he hopes in return to capture another boy’s dragon’s hearts completely as well. To have his small social circle of dragons to rely on.

Life is a dangerous thing, however, and Hiraeth crawls though with the notion that the sky may fall on him at any moment--even before such great losses. He thinks of his choices before putting a claw in -- even if the moment has well and truly passed by. Thread is a rough concept for him to wrestle with, for he has desires out of life -- and becoming just another count of a lost chromatic dragon to High Reaches Weyr isn’t entirely one of them.

But the things that he’s able to get his claws on?--talking to a handsome dragon, making it through a fall without a scratch (or even just a minor one)? Hiraeth takes all the victories of even the smallest battles as bigger ones. He would certainly celebrate as if he’d caught the senior queen and became the Weyrleader -- not like that would happen for multiple reasons, but he’ll certainly be beaming about it for days.

Size: 25’
Physical Attributes: Average size for a blue, Hiraeth is dainty for a dragon. His forelimbs are longer than his rear legs, giving his chest a touch of elevation that looks almost regal on the little blue. His wings are wide, tapered fans that he loves to stretch in the sun, as if to catch every drop of heat that he might soak up. His eyes are a touch rounder, a bit wider, giving him an innocent look in those facets. Hiraeth’s chest is more pointed and sharp, and for a well-toned dragon, it’s easy to see his muscle definition as well as points and ribs beneath taut hide.
Additional Notes: For his size, Hiraeth has quite a powerful burst of flame on him. He’s able to control it… most of the time, anyway. It does have a rare tendency to get away from him, especially on windier conditions, however time and practice have helped to rein in it.

Though he has a quiet, firm love for his Mama and Papa, Hiraeth was among his siblings who were devastated when Uncle Rixth left High Reaches Weyr. Yet all he could do was hold his tongue and press against his beloved Ky’ess when his hearts ached for his missing family. He’d never step on the aches of his siblings, certainly not the more important ones like his big sister Mictecath, just as he was silently overjoyed at Rixth’s return. However, he has found himself still unable to voice these feelings to his returned family, and sits on his talons over the matter.

Flights are a tricky thing for Hiraeth, for as much as he might want to push himself forward to chase a glowing green, he finds himself unwilling to catch her in his claws--for he has a more hidden desire to be entangled in the claws of another suitor.

Why Me: Oh, dearest Kyosess... Your Hiraeth can feel your pain, your loneliness. He's so lonely himself, and what better to stave off the lonely push than by fighting it together? They make a dynamic duo, for being the quiet rider and dragon on the outskirts of the group, they put their noses down and do the hard work that they can. Life is theirs for the taking, if only they can both have the courage to reach out and grab it. Perhaps, together, they might be able to have it.

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? With neither willing to buck the system or turn the spotlight on themselves, as well as having a heaping respect for authority on Ky’ess’ end, they followed lessons vigilantly, working as hard as they could to be up to the standards of some of the more physical lessons.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? More on the non-social front, they watched from the fringes of some of the more social circles. Certainly they had to interact just as much as any weyrling had to on a baseline, but neither Ky’ess nor Hiraeth went out of their way to interact more than what was necessary.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? Lessons prepare you for the future, do they not? They prefer to be alive than not, and made strides to keep themselves sharp to learn as much as they could.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Soul-aching, being a more apt name to it. Ky’ess, after losing his mother to thread, had been so focused on possibly losing some in his weyrling class to threadfall -- and hadn’t even considered how equally dangerous Between lessons could be. Hiraeth, though not as social as his siblings and cousins, could hardly contain his grief as they made their last jumps back to home. His brother and his cousin, both lost to the void on bad jumps, aching to go back Between and drag them out himself. But such was simply not possible, and collapsed into a puddle on his ledge for his rider to comfort through both their grief.

How did they do during Threadfall? Luck was absolutely not on their side during threadfall. After taking a nasty hit, they were knocked from the air and downed for a few weeks. Ky’ess had new scars across his chest and down his shoulder and leg, while Hiraeth was torn all along his neck and wing. But the injuries sustained merely kept them down for a week or two, healing into nasty scars but having no side effects otherwise.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Terrified. Absolutely terrified. Ky’ess, having lost his mother to thread, was utterly scared to face thread--while Hiraeth knew it was his purpose to rise against thread, but it didn’t make him any more strengthened to possibly become just another chromatic casualty to High Reaches’ lost dragon count.

Anything else? <3

We're Going to Disneyworld!

Name: S'hiel (Formerly Sanohiel)
Age: 26
Sex:Male
Sexual Orientation:IIAM
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: No formal craft
Physical Description: S'hiel is a large man. While he certainly has some muscle developed from working with a dragon, it does not outweigh that he is heavy from living a rather luxurious life full of finer foods. He has long, thick, dark hair, olive skin, and dark eyes. A distinctly broken nose and a missing tooth betray an untold tale of having been punched in the face once.
Personality: S'hiel is absolute trouble, if it can be sniffed out. For his long streak of mischief and mayhem, S'hiel is very good at putting on appearances of being a proper man who does proper things. While not malicious, he is an innately selfish man who is inclined to put himself first - but that doesn't mean others aren't still on his list. Everybody else is eventually on the list, even if some people occasionally come after....well, everything else!

To get what he wants, S'hiel is capable of playing the long game - turns and turns if he must! He will put on his most socially acceptable face and turn his levels of friendliness up to the nines even if it twists at his guts to do so. He has definitely seen enough of the world to do the proper song and dance and is full of worldly wisdom for it - something he is not afraid to impart to those who seem to need it. They may be the harsh truths, but only he has to live them then all is well.

S'hiel carries himself well. He is well-read, well-spoken, and highly intelligent, he would be well at home in any Holder's halls. If he'd been a bit more on the straight and narrow he would have made a fantastic salesman or diplomat, capable of stringing beautiful sentences together and having a rather soft place for finery. A rather large soft spot for finery at that. If it weren't for appearances, S'hiel would easily fall into being a hoarder of niceties. Instead, he holds onto the best of the best of everything and can be particular. Good food? His. Nice clothing? His. He wants it all - as long as it is good.
Positive Trait List Patient, Wise, Regal
Negative Trait List Mischievous, Selfish, Gluttonous
History: An only child to a very well off couple, Sanohiel has only ever had to ask for what he wanted to get it. So he did, again and again, up until his old man passed away when he was 12 turns old. Unfortunately for the lifestyle that Sanohiel was used to, his mother would remarry within the year - and this man would not want to be so inclined to give Sanohiel everything he desired out of life. It would be several turns before the mark dropped.

Adding injury to insult, shortly before his 14th Nameday, Sanohiel's mother would pass away rather suddenly - and his stepfather would throw him out on the street and keep everything that had belonged to his family to himself. While the change in lifestyle meant that the well taught and carefully raised Sanohiel now had to flex the skill of talking his way into the good graces of others (something he would come to be grateful for) to get what he wanted, he didn't take it gratefully. During one of his stays with a 'relative', he would discover their own daughter had nearly been taken as a patsy by a young man that fit the description of his stepfather, a con artist, to a T.

The death of his mother rested ominously on his shoulders. But the word of a jealous and disowned boy held little weight in higher society - so he settled for petty revenge. Something to simmer and season while he waited for his opportunity. It would never come. The revenge that should have been his was swept away from him by a plague and he did not harbor enough anger inside of him to pass it on to the new young wife that had taken his mother's place.

Now 20, there was nothing that Sanohiel had to look forward to. Nothing, but Search. He accepted, hoping to find something within the walls of High Reaches Weyr that felt better than a void of disappointment. He'd all but made peace with aging out and returning to Hold life in the six turns to follow.

Sanohiel! Look at your Zeznith!

They would be the words to change all of his plans.

You are the one who is everything I want! Surely, you can also say the same?
Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Zeznith
Origin of Name: Zeznith's name comes from the name of John Rzeznith, the singer of I'm Still Here from Treasure Planet.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Yep!
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y
Inspiration: "I'm Still Here" is the character theme of Jim Hawkins from Treasure Planet. In the movie, the song shows Jim's abandonment by his father side-by-side with his newly developing relationship with a new father figure, John Silver.
Personality: Zeznith has something to prove, and he's going to burn himself out doing it. He knew even before he hatched that he'd only have the attention of some of the candidates on the sands because he was blue - not brown or bronze - and what suckers they are to have not noticed! Will their bronze work as hard as he does? Can their bronze fly as fast as he does? Bronze, bronze, brown!! What's wrong with being blue? While he doesn't dislike the larger colors for all the potential open before them, Zeznith is bullheadedly competitive with them.

This stubbornness both makes him a hard worker, but also inclined to work himself into an early grave. Zeznith will strain himself far past his limits if allowed to go free. Telling him that something is impossible, especially attributing it to being 'just' a blue', is a surefire way to get him to throw himself at it with everything in his being. While a clever person will use this to motivate him into tasks he may not enjoy, it is not a trick that will work every time. Success makes this dragon smug and even harder to work with. A careful balance of positive feedback and critisicm is needed for the rider of this dragon.

In addition, Zeznith is an obscenely clever dragon, though he may not be as inclined to show his entire hand - ever. He knows exactly how to toe the line and will get bored with drills and lessons quickly, something that his rider better get in line quickly unless they want him getting too mischievous out of a need for stimulation. Zeznith is not a dragon to be left wanting without trouble following.

Size: 28'
Physical Attributes: While long, Zeznith is short in the legs and not very bulky. His head is just a little too big (physically), his headknobs a little short. Even as an adult his tail will feel a little too long for him and his wings a little too small.
Additional Notes: Zeznith will always need a bit more time to prepare for flaming, but burn extra-long and hot when he's ready. When it comes to flights, he will be eager to show off for anybody willing to watch, but actually trying to woo the riser will fall on the backburner.

Zeznith is a momma's boy thru and thru. He'd die before disappointing her.

Why Me: Zeznith needed someone as smart as he is - but not someone who wanted to be a stickler for the rules would have been far, far too boring! While not overlooked, Sanohiel knows disappointment - and how to move on after it. Zeznith needs his worldly wisdom and the ability to put on appearances in order to keep him from getting into too much trouble....on accident. Sanohiel can keep Zeznith engaged and hopefully rub his patience off on his dragon, while Zeznith offers grounding purpose - all you need is me!

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? A quiet Zeznith was one that was on the cusp of getting into trouble - something S'hiel seemed to pull him right out of right before it got too bad.....perhaps conveiently so.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Zeznith was eagerly competitive with all of his siblings who would have it, but especially the bigger dragons. S'hiel encouraged such play and did his best to make friends - even with less savory personalities (in his opinion).

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? While S'hiel had the patience needed to wade through it (unhappily so), Zeznith was inclined to vocalize his dissasisfaction more. S'hiel was inclined to work out more engaging projects for his dragon during downtime.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? S'hiel was a bit more equipped to handle loss and Zeznith had to lean heavily on it. S'hiel misses both pairs, and while motivating to do better has not allowed it to encumber him and Zeznith.

How did they do during Threadfall? S'hiel has a nasty score over one shoulder and down his back.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? S'hiel was of the good fortune to be at a Weyr with it's head screwed on straight when it came back. Zeznith is determined to rip the Red Star out of the sky with his teeth if he must - partially to prove the ferocity of a blue, partially because that's what he was born to do.

Anything else?

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: I'zel (formerly Itzlel)
Age: 22
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Trader
Physical Description: I'zel is about 6'4 with jet black hair that is kept neat. He weighs about 182 lbs, with a decent amount of muscles in all the right places. He has stormy grey eyes, that seem to hold the sadness of the world in them. He wears normal riding gear, nothing too flashy, just durable and able to hold up to all they are put through.
Personality: I'zel prides himself on being someone others can depend on, making sure never to break a promise he has made. Having been a trader before becoming a rider, he knew that people did more business with those who were reliable. In whatever he does, if he said he would do something, then he was going to do it. That seems to go hand in hand with his hard working nature, feeling he has to work hard to make sure he doesn't disappoint anyone. Even if it means putting in extra hours doing something, he will do so, just to make sure it is done properly and on time. No matter what he is doing, he gives it his all, knowing he has to.

Unfortunately, even if he is reliable, he is definitely not a people person. Ever since the fateful day that changed his life, he has preferred to be by himself. He doesn't like to socialize and getting close to him is not an easy task at all. His aloof personality is very off-putting to people, which is just the way he likes it. Not to mention, his pessimistic outlook on things can make getting close to others even harder. He sees the cup as half empty, nothing good lasts for very long in his eyes. Anyone you care about could be wiped out by disease or thread. When everything seems to be going right, it is only a matter of time before something horrible happens. He is also very down about life in general, feeling like he just cannot have nice things. It is like a grey cloud of sadness is always hanging over his head, raining on him whenever he finds something to be happy about.

Since I'zel lost so much in his life, he has had to learn to be independent, to take care of himself. He can do anything he wants by himself, he doesn't need any hand holding. Just tell him something once and show him what he needs to do and he can take it from there. He knows how to handle himself, not needing help from others. Though, if someone does manage to get close to him, he will protect them with everything he has. He hates seeing anyone hurting, no matter how much he doesn't think good things last. So for those close or even for kids or others, he will do what he can to make them safe. If he can spare anyone with what he has gone through, he will.
Positive Trait List Reliable, Independent, Hardworking, Protective
Negative Trait List Melancholic, pessimistic, aloof
History: Life seemed to be perfect for Itzlel, being the eldest son of a pair of traders. Even though he went from place to place as his parents sold their goods, he really never had want of anything. He loved his three younger siblings and his parents very much, he wanted to be like his parents. So everything he could possibly learn from them on being a trader, he took in eagerly. While he helped watch over his siblings, making sure they stayed out of trouble when they were visiting one of the Weyrs on business.

Unfortunately, when Itzlel was about twelve turns old, his family was dropping off something for a customer in Bitra. He had been sent to grab some supplies with some of the other members of the other traders they were traveling with, being assured that their business wouldn't take long. When he came back, he found his family and those he had gotten close to of their group dead, other than the ones who had gone with him. He learned that his family had been killed by a drunken man, who had been ticked off from losing all the marks he had gambling. That was the day the once happy boy, began to withdraw more into himself, only speaking to a handful of people that his family trusted.

The next turns found him traveling with those few people left from the group, helping them with all the trading that they still did. He didn't allow himself to get close to anyone but those few, not wanting to feel the pain of loss again. When he was twenty one turns, he was in High Reaches, having helped bring over some items for their double hatching feast. Since he was curious, he sat down in the audience to see what all the hubbub was about with hatchings. He watched as the babies began to break from their shells and find their bond mates. Little did he know that just as he was thinking about leaving, because seeing the parents was starting to hurt him, he would hear a voice in his head.

ItzlelMine, I know it hurts, but you can't live in the past. Come with me, we will make our future together, came the soft, but determined voice. He didn't know what possessed him, but he began to make his way down the steps, his head in a fog. When he got down to the sand, he stared into the rainbow eyes of a beautiful white dragon baby. He scooped up that precious dragon and walked dumbfounded over to the feeding table.

During their training, I'zel put everything he could into learning how to be a rider. Since he was coming in with no knowledge, he had to work twice as hard, but that was fine with him. With Mirath's help, he worked on putting his trust more into others and letting a few people start to get close. She reminded him of his parents, though she reminded him that they were always with him. She helped him learn to stop dwelling on all the bad of the past and live for today.
Other: He carries with him a little chest with some things his family cherished.

DRAGON
Name: Mirath
Origin of Name: It comes from the Latin word 'mirare,' which means to 'look at' and where the word mirror comes from.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Yes, long as it was something that would still make sense
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Yes
Color: White
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Yes, if needed
Inspiration: The Mirror of Erised is a magical mirror that shows the deepest desires of those that gaze into it. The writing on the frame of the mirror looks like it is in some foreign language, but is really just the saying 'I show not your face but your heart's desires' backwards. It was created in the 1800s, but by who is a mystery. It is believed to have been created for fun, since it is seen as something interesting and not useful, despite it being more revealing than a normal mirror. Many people wasted away or grew crazy trying to capture what was in the mirror, losing themselves in the fantasy of the images. No one is certain how it ended up in Hogwarts, but it was stored in the Room of Requirement for a long time. The mirror didn't get moved until Dumbledore modified it to hide the Philosopher's stone and he stored it in a classroom that was not being used. This is where Harry Potter stumbled upon it, seeing the images of his family around him. He became obsessed with it, spending the next few nights there, until Dumbledore found him there. The headmaster explained what the mirror was, before telling him it would be moved and told the boy not to search for it again. The mirror was not seen again til the end of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, when Harry got the stone from it to keep it from Voldemort.
Personality Mirath has a knack for being able to figure out what a person may want. Sometimes it is something a person doesn't even know they are wishing for, but she happens to pick up on things that clue her in to those desires others may have. Once she finds out what someone wants, she tries everything in her power to make it happen. At least, if it is in her power to do so, since she is wise enough to know not every desire can happen. If the desire is one she can't help grant, then she will do all she can to help the person see all the blessing they have surrounding them. She wants the best for everyone, she is a very warm dragon who loves helping. Being such an upbeat and perceptive dragon makes her someone others find fascinating. Not to mention her skills at weaving stories, tailored to her listeners. Sure, she knows not every desire can happen, but in fantasies, people can pretend for a little while. People can get lost in her stories and she encourages others to do so, just so she can enjoy some company. She hates being alone, so she will do all she can to draw attention.

This is a little white who is very determined, she will not let anything stop her. She knows how whites are viewed in High Reaches, but she doesn't care, she will make things happen for herself and those around her. She doesn't believe in living in the past, no, she is all for living in the present and envisioning the future. Life is meant to be lived and she doesn't plan to waste a moment. Unfortunately, this makes her reckless at times, not always thinking things through. Why wait for someone to come up with a plan, that patch of Thread needs burned down. It also means she is stubborn, she doesn't take no for an answer very easily. What do you mean she is too small for that maneuver, just you wait, she will show you. It will take her rider to show her that sometimes it is better to be careful, so you can better live your life.

Size: 13'
Physical Attributes: She may be the the smallest that a white can be, but that just allows her to be speedy and agile. She keeps in good shape, her features long and graceful. While she isn't very strong or have the stamina other dragons have, she just makes up with it in being best in the other areas.
Additional Notes: She loves cuddling up to other dragons, hoping to one day fulfill her desire of finding the one(s). Until that time, her ledge is always open for others to come and spend time with her. While fighting thread, she has some hot flames, to make up for other areas she is lacking in.

Why Me: Mirath could see the cloud hanging over I'zel's head and she knew he needed someone to be there for him. While she knew she couldn't bring back his parents, maybe she could give him the love she felt they would have given were they still alive. Not to mention, she knew that he could give her the protection she would need, so that she could grow to be all she was meant to be. She knew she could show him that he could rely on others, that he didn't need to do everything himself. While she admired him for his independence, she also knew he needed others in his life too. She also loves how hardworking he is, knowing that they would be able to show they were more than anyone thought they could be. Not to mention, his reliability would help reel her in when she decided to get lost in fantasies or tried to do something dangerous. Mirath loves I'zel and she won't let him ever be alone again and knew he would do the same for her.

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? I'zel would have been the quiet person, who tried to do everything he was expected to do. Mirath may have been a bit of a handful, in getting her to not run head first into trouble. I'zel would have made sure as best he could that she wouldn't get under foot or cause too much trouble though.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? I'zel would have tried to keep himself from getting too close to his fellow weyrlings, at least at first. While Mirath would have tried to get to know her family and their riders every chance she got. Eventually, she would have convinced I'zel to at least try to speak to the others, maybe even start get close to a few.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? I'zel loved the strictness and the way training was, it would have been something he would have thrived in. Mirath would have had more trouble, but knowing it is what her rider desired, she would have tried to be good. It wouldn't have been easy, because she wouldn't have liked being looked down on, but for him, she would do her best.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? It would have made I'zel want to withdraw more, but Mirath would be more determined than ever. She would have convinced I'zel that they couldn't live in the shadows just because of something like death. She knows those they lost wouldn't have wanted it that way. It would have saddened Mirath, but she would also be reminded how important it was to live and love.

How did they do during Threadfall? During Threadfall, they did suffer some scoring, but not enough to take them out of the fight. Seeing her rider hurt even that amount made Mirath listen to him when he said to be more careful. So while they didn't come out of it without a scratch, they didn't drop out of the sky either.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Mirath sees it as an opportunity to prove that she has what it takes to deal with the silvery threat. She doesn't like Thread, since it hurts others, but she isn't afraid of it either. While I'zel sees its return as something that was inevitable, just like anything else in life. He will, however, do his duty at fighting it and trying to spare anyone from dealing with loss, like he had to do.

Anything else? Thank you for this chance at the NPC dergs. And I am up for any plotting, should I win, since I would love for him to get close to others.

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: I'han
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Lol
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: No official craft
Physical Description: I'han is fairly average in height for a Pernese man, with dark brown hair, medium tan skin, and dark eyes. He has a perpetually tired look to him with dark circles underneath his eyes.
Personality: I'han really doesn't want to have to reacher higher than he absolutely has to. Responsibility doesn't suit him. Rank chasing has long lost it's appeal and frankly he likes the idea of riding a dragon without all of the...added padding of being in charge of others. Unfortunately for him, all of that is really what his father has expected of him his entire life. Yawn.

There is a tired air around I'han that makes him look permanently disinterested in the happenings around him. Everybody's business isn't his own and he's happy to not stick his nose in it...but man if he could put a little more effort into his own dealings that would be great. He is not the kind to drink himself silly after what should be a great disappointment, or wholly invest himself into a relationship that may end within a week or two. Friendships with I'han are on the difficult side - he just doesn't quite have that Oomph to show he cares.

I'han is sharp as a tack and uses what wits he has to keep from having to work harder than he has to, whether it is appeasing his father's wishes or chores that need to be done by him getting completed to 'acceptable enough to not be asked to fix it and maybe they won't ask me again next time'. It isn't that I'han exactly has anything better to do, he simply doesn't want to be doing this! I'han has no grand ambitions - he simply moves away from pain, rather than towards pleasure.

On the flip side, he is a very easy person to please and doesn't require a lot of attention. He's very low maintenance and is happy to take as much minimal effort as he puts out. Forgotten Nameday? Forgiven. Forgot his name? That's fine! He can be taken for a ride if someone shows a larger amount of interest than expected, however. His lack of desire keeps him from holding grudges or having it in him to be angry, leaving him very mellow.
Positive Trait List Smart, Low Maintenance, Mellow
Negative Trait List Disinterested, Uninvested, Unmotivated
History: I'han was born Icthan, son of bronzerider I'ian, and as far as I'ian cared his only child was his first born (as far as he knew) son. Icthan was laiden with his father's expectations from an early age. Born on the Southern Continent, his father's ambitious mindset slowly pushed the man farther away from Southern Weyr, where he'd lived with his son. When the boy turned 15, his father was transferred to High Reaches Weyr - barely in time to be considered for a recent clutch.

He would be grateful to not impress. I'ian would be less pleased that the single bronze of the clutch, a large and strong one at that, didn't even seem to give his son a second glance. But the clutch did give Icthan something else to mull over - a girl with the same face as him who had impressed a blue. The similarity in name didn't go unnoted either. When asked, his father would give a dismissive 'possibly' to the notion that the girl, Ichta of Blue Aurinkoth, was his sister.

Icthan would not pursue posing the same question to her, however. He had no reason to find out the answer to such things. Instead, he would duck his head and keep from standing out - which would perhaps be why the next few clutches looked over the young man. He didn't worry for it, however.

Just as he didn't fuss during the chaos of The Magic Clutch as dragonets launched themselves at candidates and each other. What would come would come, after all, and - NO! NO NO! THIS IS NOT WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE DOING! despite yelling as loud as he could, the little blue's baby voice seemed to be doing nothing. He stomped, he postured, and he huffed. And you! Do you even want to impress a dragon? Honestly! Icthan was taken aback by the sudden burst of raw feeling from the little blue.

"Nothing I do will make them want me harder..." he defended meekly, drawing the little blue's ire further.

HOW CAN THEY WANT YOU IF YOU DON'T WANT THEM? he howled, making the boy wince and cover his ears - as though it would help.

"I never said I don't want th-"

Then say you want me! It wasn't a demand - it was a plea.

"I....I want you...." it was impossible to not reneg to it, especially as the little blue inched closer, head resting against the boy's stomach and looking up at him pleadingly.

Again.

"I want you," It was easier to say that time.

Good. Because you were going to belong to your Houleth whether you said it or not.

I'han's father would not be pleased with the choice, but I'han would hear nothing to the contrary - it had been Houleth's choice, after all.
Other: Half brother to Ichta.

DRAGON
Name: Houleth
Origin of Name: Houle was believed to be an imitative sound that later became the basis of the word Howl.
Inspiration: A Howler is a blood-red letter sent to signify extreme anger or to convey a message very loudly and publicly. When it is opened, the sender's voice, which has been magically magnified to a deafening volume, bellows a message at the recipient and then self-destructs itself by burning. If it is not opened or there is a delay in opening it, the letter smolders, explodes violently, and shouts the message out even louder than normal.
Personality: Everybody watch out - headache incoming! Houleth is a very particular dragon and he has no problem making sure everybody around him knows what is expected. He likes his meals a particular way, he likes what company he keeps to act a particular way, and he would like everybody to stay in their assigned seats please! Yes, this blue is a traditionalist at heart and sees absolutely no problem with that - doing what you're told is how you stay alive thank you very much!

Underneath the surface of his particular soul bubbles endless frustration - and everybody is going to hear about it. Houleth is no small amount of a tattle-tail and will be prone to fighting with his siblings both verbally and physically. If a dragon higher up the chain than him expresses rules to be a certain way, you bet your tail he is going to play the enforcer to make sure everybody knows that they've done wrong when they step out of line. This does include himself, however, and should he break even the smallest of rule Houleth will be running into the claws of punishment to accept what he has earned.

In turn, Houleth is a very reliable dragon. He will always be where he was asked to be when he is needed. He will twist himself inside out to make sure everything expected of him does not fall short. He is honest and true to his core - and expresses himself accordingly. No feeling is tucked away. Affection and anger are both expressed to the fullest. He will never be a malicious dragon - he simply wants what is best for everybody. If only they could see that.
Size: 24'
Physical Attributes: Already a small dragon for his size, Houleth is not particularly muscled, nor is his lankiness particularly lovely to look at. His chest is almost comically large compared to the rest of his body - a perfect echo chamber for his naturally booming voice.
Additional Notes: Houleth has a naturally louder-than-almost-everybody-else voice - something he'll have to be reminded to keep to indoor tones.

As part of staying in his assigned seat, Houleth will never be inclined to chase golds (he saw u all last flight). Greens are 10/10 where it is at. How he'll feel about being caught himself remains to be seen.

Why Me: Icthan doesn't want to climb the ladder and thank goodness for that! Houleth could never pick someone who wanted to go farther than he could take them - and they both seem to agree that playing on a lower seat is the place to be. Icthan's lack of burning passion will hopefully be ignited by the large amounts of it that Houleth has and perhaps it will even take the edge of of the blue's bitier emotions and help him take a bit of a chill pill. They're both good hearted boys and their love for each other will ground them when their fire and ice battle it out a bit.

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Houleth was a goody two shoes - tell him to jump and he'd ask how high...and then measure how high everybody else jumped too. This included I'han who was really trying to not have to stick out too much. Sigh.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? I'han would never approach to friendships and any he really has are likely a result of him having to wrangle Houleth who likely has more enemies than friends in his sibling group. Huff!

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? I'han wasn't the most thrilled, but Houleth was like an eager puppy, please I will do anything you ask please give me praise /vibrate/.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Houleth....made a whole lot of noise about it. Inconsolable really. Even if they didn't get along (AKA if it is plotted they probably would not have liked each other), Houleth never would have asked for such a sad thing. Didn't everybody do everything right? I'han was less vocal about his feelings - perhaps out of uncertainty of appropriateness of how to express them.

How did they do during Threadfall? Houleth has a few burns from another dragon and some minor scoring. Overall it went about as smoothly as a first go could.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Excuse you Thread! You were not invited! Hisss! I'han doesn't like it, but isn't about to be upset about something he cannot change. Houleth is much more vocal about his distaste - he's gonna show it who is boss!!

Anything else?

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

Name: Xha’kai (formerly Xharrakai)
Age: 25
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Dogsbody/Labourer/Conman

Physical Description:
Very dark-skinned, much about Xha’kai draws attention. Amber eyes flash with mischief and desire, a captivating gaze to say the very least, veiled by an abundance of dark lashes. Thick, long, choppy hair is dark brown, almost black, at its roots, though he has dyed a large strand of it honey gold, and once dyed the entirety of it white. This gives him a rather pompous skunk look overall, with hair closer to his head dark, and fading to white as it reaches his bottom. Yes, it is impractical. Yes, he is proud. Yes, he has had to learn the styling secrets of noble ladies to keep it manageable for dragonriding.

He is an even six feet, with a slightly stocky build and a muscular physique that he actively works to maintain. He once dressed for attention- with what marks he didn't gamble away, but now focuses almost entirely on the practicalities of being a rider. He loves Gathers and festivities, and will always rise to any splendid occasion with splendour of his own. His favourite trinket is a set of lucky dice he carries with him in an embroidered pouch.

He has scars across his arms and hands- reminders and mementos of his less-than-lucky encounters as a Bitran ruffian. On his right hand, four straight lines stand out a little more than the rest; Xha’kai invents new stories for their existence every time he is asked, always recounting them with a smile.

Personality:
Much can be said about Xha’kai; ask the pit bosses of the Bitran gambling dens, and none of it will be positive. The Lords and Ladies of the minor Holds? Oh, well you don't kiss and tell, you know... Everybody seems to have an opinion of the poor little orphan- which is probably what's kept him alive so long. If you're popular, people don't want to kill you (at least not immediately, anyway).

But it's more than just that, if you ask Xha’kai himself. He's not just a shameless flirt, or a gambling fiend, a dishonest cheat or a conman... No, there is more than just hedonism beneath that gold and obsidian surface: to survive Bitra, one needs one's wits, to maintain control of resources, to act instead of be acted upon. He was a man forged by his environment, and it shows in his internal calculations, in how he makes the best of any bad situation, trying to find an advantage in any position in which he might find himself. Never tell him the odds, he says- it makes the game more fun.

He is smart and quick-witted, but that comes with an unhealthy dose of shrewdness and manipulative tendencies, too. He sees opportunities in which he can advance himself- even if that merely means not paying a price to debt collectors or engaging with the furious kind of married folk. Xha’kai is very intelligent, and in a more supportive environment might even have made a brilliant harper, perhaps; but as it stands now, he is charming and silver-tongued in getting what he wants. He can spin any tale to subdue, woo or enchant, and a captivated audience- one or many- is the key to his smooth and suave victories. He knows the nature of people, at their core, and enjoys going toe-to-toe with the best and the worst of them.

With a love for life born of the knowledge that death can come at any moment, Xha’kai has an innocent, almost childlike joie-de-vivre about him. He is always ready to say yes to the next big adventure, partly because the last adventure might not have ended so well, and partly because new things... Well, excite him! Who knows what the future will bring? Tomorrow is a brand new day. He loves parties and Gathers, and is well-disposed to good old fashioned fun times.

When it comes to conversation, Xha’kai enjoys learning about others. He is discrete in information gathering, dancing with rumour and gossip. His primary goal is to learn more about the person(s) upon whom his sights are set, but without revealing his intentions in the slightest. Easy-going and friendly, Xha’kai shows enough of an interest in the other party that he hopes may quieten their initial reservations they might have about him. He is good at small talk, but might, after time, consider it a bore if it has not brought him a reward of some kind.

In romance, he is a bit of a fiend. This young man will happily chase anything with a pulse that even remotely shows him affection or attention. He likes to tease and torment his 'prey'; but will leave the more innocent alone if he truly believes his actions will have long-lasting negative effects. He does have a beating heart somewhere locked away, and he wants their memories of him to be something fond and sweet, not wrapped in bitterness. Deep down he yearns to find someone as salacious and as difficult as he is, who will rival him in wit and passion, but until then he sees no harm in bringing excitement into the lives of others.

Much like a rat, even cornered Xha’kai will never give up. Clever, quick-witted and resourceful, he is more than willing to employ all of his assets and power to get ahead. He's charming- more than an arguably handsome man has any right to be- and has a habit of finding trouble; either through its creation or in its pursuit. There is never a dull day with Xha’kai around.

Positive Trait List Youthful joie-de-vivre, Charming, Resourceful
Negative Trait List Machiavellian, Shameless, Reckless

History:
The circumstances of Xharrakai’s birth were not fortuitous: born to an alcoholic father and a mother who had sunken into practical drudgery to pay off the man’s debts, the baby was born into hardship and suffering in the dark heart of Bitra Hold. Soon after his arrival, Xharrakai’s father was killed in an ‘accident’, though whisper had it that it was caused by yet more unpaid debts. At age four, Xharrakai’s mother passed away from illness- every comfort she had, she plied on her young son, shortening her own life in the process.

It was an age of difficulty and peril; Xharrakai survived partly on instinct, and partly on the charity of some of the Holdfolk, who had taken a shine to the charming and cherubic young lad. He was rascally and adventurous, bringing a touch of joyful innocence to an otherwise grim world. Despite the early setbacks in his childhood, he showed remarkable persistence and a desire to live that surprised even the surliest of Bitrans. He was bright and eager, and soon found work as part of a small gang that made money smuggling and selling ‘rare imports’. They also engaged in thievary and gambling- but this seemed very normal to the young Xharrakai. He was very good at pick-pocketing, and seemed to have a very lucky streak with dice in particular.

Harper lessons were not a big part of his life- he lacked the discipline to attend regularly, though might have made something of himself if he’d been better encouraged. Instead, he turned his attention to the best methods of making marks- from gambling alone to charming the money out of their hands. A captive audience was exactly what he needed, and as he matured he realised he could use the attention his looks won him to his benefit.

This ruffled some feathers with the higher-ups in his gang, who found his independent ways to be irritating and threatening to their power. They cut ties abruptly, shunning him, and he realised that Bitra was hard to survive alone. Around sixteen he got into debt with some of the meaner folk in the Hold, earning him the scars on his hand. This led to the young man fleeing the Hold proper for neighbouring cotholds. If there was something Xharrakai found he could do- it was survive no matter the odds. He had gotten very good at that.

He had never properly worked before- at least, not in the normal Pernese sense of the word. When he arrived at small cotholds, he scoped out those who would pay him better, or who enjoyed his smiles and chatter, and endeared himself to them to win their favour. More than once he ended up running from an angry married man or woman, or parents who threatened him should he ever show his face again. It turned into a fun little game- how long would his reputation be unsullied at the next cothold? And it was thrilling.

He learnt discretion and tact as he grew older. He learnt how to show tenderness, how to smile, how to portray exactly what he needed to be in order to get ahead. At around twenty-three, he returned to Bitra a changed man, prepared to square off with those who had hunted and haunted him Turns prior.

Unfortunately, for all of his bravado, all his calculations, there was only so much one man could do against many. His infamous reputation persisted despite his efforts to rejoin his former gang, and soon he found those who had scarred him. He repaid part of his debts, but he had a tendency to spend more than he ought, and Xharrakai could not pay it all. The whispers of his father’s fate grew loud, and though the young man didn’t want to believe them, deep in his heart he knew they were true.

And he knew that he might share that fate, too, if he wasn’t careful.

So he fled again. This time, he went westward, deciding to put as much space between himself and Bitra as possible. Nabol had gambling dens and ways to make money, surely… Only this time, something happened outside of the scope of his precious plans: a Searchrider approached him at Ogren Hold, a minor Hold in the territories of High Reaches. Offered the opportunity to stand for High Reaches’ double clutch, he was overcome with breathless, childish excitement once more. A life as a dragonrider was far better than any life he could imagine in Bitra- and, well… if he failed to Impress, there was always the opportunity of charming some higher-up at the Weyr… that would get him pretty comfy for life, no doubt. Smart dragonriders could be long-lived.

Candidacy was pretty much the opposite of everything he had imagined his life being- dull and repetitive, it got to the point where Xharrakai really questioned whether or not he wanted to be there. But he was good at faking it, at least for a time, and managed through a combination of charming people into being his friend and a lot of harmless flirting.

When Hatching Day rolled around, the whole experience took on a brand new, exciting sheen to it. He’d never attended a hatching before, and the sheer awesomeness took his breath away. Of course, the behaviour of some dragons was less than stellar- but he didn’t care so much for Western’s rudeness; there were so many babies to watch! Sure, some of them were a little more bloodthirsty than others, but nothing wrong with having a temper. It was just how things were.

I don’t like your odds, if you’re just going to stand around and smile any time something dangerous happens. A dry little voice poked inside of his mind, old far before its time.

“I don’t like knowing the odds, so keep it to yourself.” He answered with a grin, believing it to be some candidate nearby making a joke. Of course, it wasn’t. The nearest candidates gave him strange looks, before shifting aside for the small, scrawny white dragon that sat nearby, eyes shifting ever so slightly with rainbow hues.

Look, I am terribly afraid death awaits you if you just hang around here. I don’t mean to upset you, but there’ll be so much blood. Too much. And it’ll be awful. Then I’ll have to leave as well, and I’ve just started to live. Would you care very much if we got some food now? The voice was an odd mixture of whiny and affectionate- not bratty, for there was too much melancholy there… but…

Xharrakai’s eyes widened. His. His dragon was here. She was his. He was hers. It made sense. It hit him quite like a boulder might, he imagined. He leapt towards her, suddenly fiercely determined that nothing shall ever frighten her or harm her again.

I’m not scared, just in a hurry to get to safety... No, really. If we stay here, bad things will happen. I just know it. Let’s go, Xha’kai. Oh- Astraleith, sorry. Just in case you didn’t know.

As it turned out, bad things did happen that hatching. There was death, and blood- but neither his, which was okay (at least for him). He didn’t doubt Astraleith’s senses thereafter, though her spouting on about death and doom and misfortune for any who paid her even the slightest flicker of attention wasn’t unusual. Even a broken sundial was right twice a day, Xha’kai supposed. Still, she was perfect in every way- sassy and smart, melodramatic enough to be entertaining, but sweet enough to listen when he asked her to stop with the incessant worrying.

Though he was an undisciplined, unfocused man, she gave him a renewed sense of purpose, and a great feeling of belonging that he had not had before. She gave him a reason to try harder and to be better, whether it be from her subtle reproach of his normal behaviours (gambling and flirting- how unbecoming), or by encouraging cautiousness in his otherwise adventurous life. He was always willing and ready to volunteer them in class, despite Astraleith’s reluctance to do anything that might risk their lives.

So far, they have survived Fall with no injury whatsoever. Xha’kai thanks his lucky dice, but Astraleith’s ruminations of their likely misfortunes may yet be their undoing- for surely what is so fastly held in one’s mind must come to pass, right?

If you would believe such things, anyway. Xha’kai certainly doesn’t- he’s going to live a long and fruitful life, thank you very much.

Other:

DRAGON
Name: Astraleith
Origin of Name: From the word ‘astrolabe’, from which star charts could be drawn (amongst many other things); Astraleith was inspired by Divination.
Inspiration: Divination class, a course that teaches students how to interpret signs or gather insights into the future. Albus Dumbledore almost removed it from the curriculum, were it not for Professor Trelawney's infamous prophecy. Though Sybill Trelawney had a couple of accurate prophecies, a lot of her predictions were viewed as lucky guessing or irrelevant nonsense.

Personality
Described as dry and prickly, first encounters leave most with a strong impression of weirdness. Astraleith is an intense dragon who fixates quickly on small details and portents, ‘reading' futures in whatever she can find; three herdbeast running from a dragon during a feeding means the dragon will do well at drills, or snowfall before bathtime means Xha’kai will catch a chill (oh wow, really?)… She is absolutely certain that if people know all the bad things that will happen to them, they will be grateful to her and as a consequence welcome her into their social circles, and then she’ll be a good friend to everyone.

So, Astraleith means well, she really does. She just… stresses. About everything. And everyone. And reads far too much into every interaction, every little sign or symbol or scratching in the dirt. She has a creative mind and a love for storytelling (read: flair for the dramatic) that seems to have translated well into this domain of worry and concern for everybody else. Her unfortunate habit of catastrophising and agonising over the future is tempered by mellow personalities and kindness, and she can usually be soothed with physical or emotional affection. Truly, she has a heart of gold, but it’s just clad in this veil of grim, dark melancholy.

She is rather vague and scattered in her thinking and speaking, either repeating herself or never quite coming to a point. Her warnings can be cryptic and unhelpful, despite her desire to help guide others. Despite this, she is especially thoughtful and bright when it comes to predicting what others might need, and can be depended upon when it comes down to the wire.

Astraleith is a dragon who tries her best despite the frightening risks of being alive in a Pass. She hates disappointing others, and will endeavour to do her best to please her clutchmates and wingmates no matter what. She has special attachment to those who accept her for all her eccentricities, and is as loyal as a canine. She can be a bit emotional, often too self-indulgent in pity and sorrow, but this behaviour helps her feel at ease with all the risks she sees in the world around her.

Positive Trait List Insightful, Sociable, Well-meaning
Negative Trait List Woolly, Awkward, Overwrought

Size: 14’

Physical Attributes:
Small and scrawny as a hatchling, she has grown into a lean, runner’s form. Astraleith is well-proportioned.

Additional Notes: She is a little stiff and awkward in the romance department, but deep down, Astraleith longs to have a weyrmate just like any other dragon. Though she doesn’t participate in flights, she harbours secret hope that a dragon may ask her to cuddle someday…

Her flame is a little on the short side, and she is still sometimes hesitant in Fall, in case she hurts another.

Why Me:
A gambling man and a dragon who knows all the risks? Xha’kai and Astraleith were made for each other, and it was fate, or destiny, that brought them together.

Xha’kai doesn’t know it, but he relies on Astraleith’s constant worrying to ground him, for his fancies would no doubt land him in more danger than he could handle. She tempers his recklessness with worry, acting as the little voice in his head that says, wait, don’t jump here, you might not make that distance.

As for Astraleith, she has a heart that winds up tight with emotion, and yet Xha’kai is the kind of man to accept her for all that she is, no questions asked- enabling her be herself without worry or awkwardness, and grow as an individual. He sheds his mask when he’s around her, as she is the sort of dragon who breaks down barriers with her eccentricity. She needs him for support and confidence- where she will feel awkward in social situations, he is always there to guide her and reassure her that nobody minds if she says the wrong thing- and in fact she is all the more loveable for it.

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training?
Though Xha’kai was not the most studious weyrlings, his enthusiasm and motivation helped him shine. He certainly needed help in lessons, although he was very good with the physical exercise. Astraleith was not such a high-flier, and her constant worrying was a source of concern for the weyrlingmasters. Fortunately, Xha’kai was able to help her through most of it, and their bond is all the stronger for it.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings?
If you didn’t love Xha’kai, then you hated him. He had a desire to stand out and make friends, but he wasn’t always very scrupulous about it. If he grew bored of a fellow weyrling, his friendship became tenuous and fleeting. Rumours abound that he was looking to climb the ranks- and since the colourist views of High Reaches would prevent that from happening on merit, he was seeking higher connections through other means.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons?
Astraleith made them all worthwhile. Candidacy was difficult- but weyrling training was not. The no-sex rule was definitely the hardest to keep, in his opinion, but he was more than happy to have that removed when Astraleith was six months old, and they moved into their own (shared) weyrs.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between?
Astraleith fell apart a bit, moaning that she’d seen the signs that morning (there were too many wherries flying away from the pens, she’d told them that), but Xha’kai gritted his teeth and mourned in silence. He preferred not to show his emotions too openly, to match that which others were doing. He helped Astraleith overcome her own sorrow and misery.

How did they do during Threadfall?
So far so good! Xha’kai thinks it’s all thanks to his lucky dice; Astraleith is certain inevitable doom awaits them in the future.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return?
Astraleith is terrified by the notion of it, and often seeks physical or emotional reassurance from her clutchmates or her auntie Fianth. Xha’kai isn’t too bothered by it- it’s a tragedy, of course, but hey: now he has an actual proper duty and that’s something he didn’t have before. Plus he has Astraleith- what’s the worst that could happen? [insert smooth/suave grin here]

Anything else?
Thank you so much for hosting this!

We're Going to Disneyworld!

Name: Canzena
Age: 26
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Weavercrafter
Physical Description: Canzena has golden blonde hair, that seems as bright as the sun. It goes down to chest level, gentle curls giving her hair some bounce. She usually wears her hair down, unless she is riding or doing something that having her hair down could cause injury, in which case it is usually done in a braid. She has sapphire blue eyes that hold a light to them, giving her even more beauty. This young woman is only 4'11 and 94 lbs, but is in pretty decent shape. She wears pretty nice looking clothing, having an eye for fashion.
Personality: Canzena is a girl that has a lot of energy, she has no trouble transitioning from one thing to another with a lot of gusto. She loves being active and getting to interact with as many people as she can. From the beginning of her day to the end, this girl seems to go non stop, never seeming to slow down at all. While other people may grow tired as the day wears on, she seems to be as fresh as a daisy, without slowing down. The only time she seems quiet is when she is sleeping and even then she is on the go in her dreams. This abundance of energy, unfortunately, leads to her being very impatient. She hates having to wait for things, whether it is for a surprise or waiting until a lecture is over. Sometimes she will ask someone to hurry up, so she can go do something more fun. Or sneak a peek at a surprise, because she just cannot wait until it is time to open it. It makes giving her surprises or having her listen to discussions quite a headache.

Along with her high energy, Canzena has a zest for adventure, she loves being out there. She loves going new places and trying new things, she feels it is what makes life worth living. After all, sitting around doing nothing is boring, life is about living. She wants to be out there having a grand adventure, not doing the same thing day in and day out. It is why she loves fashion so much, because it is an adventure trying out new designs and ways of doing things. Unfortunately, her adventurous spirit also leads her into trouble because she is impulsive. A plan, who needs one of those when she can just dive head first into adventure. She is one to act now and ask questions later, no need to wait when you can just learn on the fly. When a volunteer is asked for, she is one of the first people to have her hand raised. Consequences be darned, she is going to do what she is going to do, and she doesn't care if it gets her hurt. It takes others to remind her that she isn't the only one affected by her rash decisions.

She is also very cheerful, nothing seems to rain on her parade at all. She is one of those people who believe that things will always turn out alright in the end. She likes enjoying the day, feeling that any negative can be turned into a positive. Her cheerfulness can be infectious, since she likes wearing a smile on her face most of the time. She is also very sweet, wanting to bring smiles to the faces of others. In anyway that she can, she will try to bring some sunshine into the lives of those around her. That just seems to make her more cheerful, seeing others having a good time and happy. Behind all her cheer and sweetness though, she is secretive too. Having her father leave her and her mother, she hides how it hurts when people do not treat her or others well, much like her father did. She will think of ways to make them pay for it, but she never carries through with it. She keeps this side of her hidden, not wanting others to know when she is hurt. She doesn't like others to find out about her past, unless they are close to her. She sometimes worries that she isn't good enough for friendship or love, she hides these concerns though.
Positive Trait List Energetic, cheerful, Adventurous, Sweet
Negative Trait List Impatient, Impulsive, Secretive, Insecure
History: Canzena was the result of a gold flight at High Reaches, between a brown rider and the gold rider that had been in flight. When her father seemed to stick around for the first five years of her life, she thought the man loved her and her mother. However, one day he disappeared and she didn't know where he had gone. Her mother told her that he died, but the young girl couldn't believe a man so strong could die so easily. However, she just tried to go about her life, staying close to her mother. When she was older, her mother finally did admit to her that her father left them, which hurt the poor girl. However, when others seemed to pity her, when they found out, the young girl began to hide her hurt about it. Plus, part of her hoped her father would come riding back into her life, proving her still cared. She worried sometimes she wasn't worth it and that is why he didn't say, but she kept that to herself that worry.

When she was old enough, she fell in love with weavercraft, wanting to be a designer. So she went to learn that craft, when she turned ten turns old, eager to learn how to make clothing. When she was candidate age, she came back to stand, having always wanted to be a rider. While she stood for the next several turns, she didn't give up hope that she would find her soulmate. She also continued to work in her craft when she got a chance, since it was a craft she could do when she wasn't doing her candidate work. Eventually she was able to walk the tables, ready if she needed a backup plan, if she managed to not impress. Which as time went on, things were starting to look like it might happen that way. She knew she didn't have much time before aging out, however her world soon changed.

When the double clutch happened, she was on the sands, watching as the babies came out of their eggs. She loved watching each one and seeing what personalities they had. Then a blue began to make his way through all the candidates, seeming to be examining them all. When he got to her, he sat down and stared up at her with rainbow eyes.

I knew you were here, CanzenaMine. And you are worth more than you know. Let your Frieth show you how much you matter, you always have, the blue's voice came into her mind. She couldn't help but feel a bit of peace decend on her from the blue, her blue. She headed off to feed him some food, to start their lives together. She knew now that when he had been looking at the others, he had been giving them some encouragement, before coming to her. The next turn would find them doing their best in their lessons as weyrlings.
Other: She still looks out for her father, hoping she can find him one day.

DRAGON
Name: Frieth
Origin of Name: Frieth gets his name from David Friedman, the person who composed the song "Out of Thin Air" for the movie Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Yes, if it is possible
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Yes
Color: Blue
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Yes, if needed
Inspiration: "Out of Thin Air" was the second song featured in the third movie of the Aladdin series, Aladdin and the King of Thieves (which came out in 1996). Aladdin and Jasmine's wedding is crashed by the Forty Thieves, who are trying to obtain a special staff which houses a powerful oracle. This oracle can answer one question for any individual and it can be anything they might want to know. Knowing of this power, it makes Aladdin begin to think of his past. The Oracle hints to him that all of his questions about his past can be answered by his father, who is actually still alive, much to Aladdin's surprise. The song is one where Jasmine tries to convince Aladdin to find out about his father, that she can wait for him to return. Also, it is to remind him that he is special and didn't just come out of Thin Air. Aladdin tries to counter that his father was never there to teach him who he is, like Jasmine had her's. By the end of the song, Aladdin is convinced to find out about his father, knowing Jasmine will wait for him. It is a beautiful love song, while also being a song that shows we are sometimes more than we realize.
Personality Frieth is a dragon who is always trying to encourage others. He knows that everyone has the potential of greatness and he will do everything he can to help people bring it out. He also is good at spotting that potential in others, knowing what to say to coax it out. He loves to cheer people on, letting them know that they will always have someone in their corner for them. He is a bright beacon of hope, he doesn't want anyone to feel like they aren't good enough. Of course, in his eyes, even someone who appears to be tough skinned can have a light that they try to hide. He is also a calm dragon, that seems to exude a reassuring aura. He tries not to let things bother him, knowing that it doesn't do anyone any good. Sure, he can get upset, but he tries not to dwell in it for long.

Unfortunately, this sometimes blinds the dragon to the negative about a person. He can be so focused on the positive, that he can't always see when someone is lying to him or wanting to hurt him. No, they couldn't possibly do that to him, that wouldn't be nice at all. They are all good people, they just need to have someone in their corner. He can be naive when it comes to the darker side of people and situations. It will take others to make sure that he doesn't get hurt too badly by the actions of others who would use him for their own gain. He also has a tendency to forget about personal space, never shying away from being close and personal. Surely, no one minds a little nuzzling here or a wing drapped over them there, right? He forgets sometimes that some people prefer their space. And it doesn't matter his size, he will show all the affection in the world. Plus, he has a tendency to stick his nose into everyone's business and be meddlesome. Come now, how is he supposed to help, if he doesn't know what is going on? So he tends to try and help people, even when they do not wish to be helped.

This is also a dragon who likes to have a game plan, there is no point in running into trouble. No, the less likely it is for himself or others to get hurt, the better it is. He likes to be effective when it comes to everything he does. So he will try to make sure that he has several plans at the ready, in case one of them goes wrong. Unfortunately, this also leads to the issue of him being indecisive when it comes to decisions. It takes him awhile to pick a plan and stick to it. After all, they are all good ones, but surely one is better for the situation than another. It can lead to people having to wait for him to act, because he doesn't want to make the wrong choice.

Size: 33'
Physical Attributes: Frieth is a max size blue, so he isn't as fast or graceful as some other dragons of his color. He is decent in those departments, but he is better in the realm of stamina, having a higher level than many of his fellow blues. He also is pretty good in strength, though that isn't as good as the bigger colors. His proportions are fine for his size, all in the normal range.
Additional Notes: Frieth has pretty long flames, liking to be effective when it comes to fighting Thread. In flight, he will chase after any green, to determine her potential. One day, he hopes to settle down with the dragon(s) that make his hearts beat with all the love he can give. He is also search sensitive, so he will be helping with helping to find more candidates.

Why Me: From the moment the moment he hatched out of his shell, he knew that she was his. He knew she was a wonderful person, but knew she secretly doubted herself. No more, he would be her biggest cheerleader, reminding her that she has one person always in her corner. She is good enough and he will help her see that, he loves her too much for her to dwell in the shadows of doubt. Plus, he knows how she likes to rush head long into things, maybe he can bring a sense of calm and peace. And maybe she can help him learn to be more decisive in his choices, so he doesn't take forever to act on things. He loves her cheerfulness and knows together they can help a lot of people. They both want to help people feel and be their best, including each other. He liked the way she cared about others, just like he does, and want to brighten people's day. Maybe one day, Frieth will get to help his rider find her father. If not, he will always have her back and be her biggest fan. He knows she will do the same for him and help open his eyes more to the adventure of the world around them.

What were they like in weyrling training? Canzena probably caused some trouble inadvertently by her impulsive nature, since she would have wanted to get into the action of the lessons. She would have had trouble sitting still through lessons. In time, Frieth's calming nature probably helped to keep her from being a bother and help her grow.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Both members of this pair would have tried to make friends with their fellow Weyrlings. Sometimes they might have angered someone with Frieth trying to get too close and personal or Candeza trying to drag people into an adventure. They would always try to find some way to make it up and get back into those people's good graces though.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? Candeza would have been driven crazy by the strict rules, but with some nudging from Frieth, would have accepted it. Frieth would have loved them, knowing it helped everyone grow in their potential that he knew they had.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Both of them would have been hit by the deaths, since they would have interacted with them during training. Knowing how much it hurt the group, they would have worked together to try to help bring cheer to everyone.

How did they do during Threadfall? They both got scarred during Threadfall, thanks to Candeza urging them after every piece of Thread she could see. Thankfully, it wasn't enough to put them out of commission for more than a couple weeks, because of Frieth's planning.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? On the one hand, it keeps Candeza busy and gives her the adventure that she craves. It allows her to show her worth, dealing with the ancient enemy. However, it also brings pain and sadness to others, which neither of them want. So the pair has conflicting feelings about Threadfall's return.

Anything else? Thank you for this chance for NPCs from the double clutch. And if I win, I would definitely love to plot with people, since these two would have wanted friends.

We're Going to Disneyworld!

Name: Il'ux (formerly Ilongux)
Age: 24 Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: None of your business.
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: None/heir to a Holder
Physical Description: Lean and of middling size, Il’ux is a handsome man with sharp features and tawny skin. His thick, golden hair is often drawn back, and he prefers to keep himself dressed elegantly, but not ostentatiously. Despite the warm color of his hazel eyes, his gaze is often cold, and he has a bad habit of looking down his nose at people. Though he was initially of a more slender build, a few Turns worth of hard work has gained him a good amount of muscle, and he’s no longer the soft, pampered person he once was.

Personality: Il’ux is a stubborn sort of man who believes that those in positions of power should do everything they can to make life better for those beneath them. He will boldly take things into his own hands and fix them--regardless of whether or not he’ll get in trouble for it. Unfortunately, having grown up in said position of power, Il’ux thinks of the greater good as a whole and tends to forget about the individuals. He comes off as cold, brusque, and impatient, and he’s grown so used to being rely on himself and himself alone that he tends to brush off attempts at idle conversation and attempts at friendship without even thinking twice.

That isn’t to say that he’s a man without empathy. Those who are bullied or pushed around will find an immediate, icy defender in Il’ux. He’ll stand up to the biggest foe without any thoughts of consequence… which means he’s going to land himself into hot water, sooner or later. This is especially true when paired with the fact that Il’ux is extremely judgemental, and will often judge someone before getting to see their true colors. As harsh as he can be, he isn’t an unfair person. If proven wrong (though that may be a task in and of itself), he won’t hesitate to apologize.

Il’ux is a decisive individual, but in the same vein, he can be reckless. He won’t agonize over a decision, but he also tends to leap in without considering all the facts. His gut feeling is most important, and though his intentions are honest… well, that doesn’t mean he’s always right. If one of his reckless decisions ended up hurting someone, he would be secretly devastated while trying to show a stone cold face. He would undoubtedly attempt to make amends to that person somehow, feeling as though it was his duty to right his wrongs.

Positive Trait List Valiant, Decisive, Protective
Negative Trait List Cold, Judgemental, Reckless

History: The only child of a prosperous Holder of Nabol, Ilongux was raised with the intention of taking over his father’s position one day. He was educated and firmly instructed in what was expected of him in the future, and the shady things that happened day in and day out were dismissed as normal. It wasn’t until Ilongux was much older that he really understood the corruption that seeped throughout the entire Hold. His father was a staunch supporter of Lord Gansley, and what Gansley said, went. Ilongux privately vowed to make changes once he was in charge, but had enough sense to hold his tongue.

Of course, that was all before Thread returned.

Ilongux had never been in a time of such destruction and despair. He was horrified--especially when it seemed as though his father was allocating aid to the richer folks of the Hold and not the less fortunate. He argued with his father and was, expectedly, silenced. Such a thing was new for Ilongux, and he found himself bristling with anger and outrage. For all his supposedly privilege, he was helpless.

After several weeks, dragonriders came flying to evaluate the damage, and that was likely the only reason that Ilongux was able to escape. The dragon who landed in question found that Ilongux was eligible to stand, and his father, though he tried, was unable to forbid him. The man threatened to disown him if he continued with such a foolish endeavor, and the young man could only sneer before he mounted behind the dragonrider and allowed himself to be carried off to High Reaches.

Adjusting to life as a Candidate was harsh, but Ilongux stubbornly stuck with it. Better to be a dragonrider and help people than a fat old Holder who chose who received aid or not. He didn’t Impress during his first or second Turn… but then, the unexpected happened during Fianth and Rhianth’s double clutch. An egg wobbled, shivered… and finally split, allowing a green to delicately shiver to spill the remaining eggshell off of her hide. She searched for a moment, seemingly composed, but eventually yellow bled into her eyes and betrayed her anxiety.

Ilongux? She finally called, standing uncertainly. Your Fansith is sorry to be a bother… but I need you, and only you.

So began Il’ux’s life as a dragonrider, and though some may have sneered that her hide was green, Il’ux knew that there was no one more suited for him than his Fansith.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Fansith
Origin of Name: From fǎnsī, the Chinese word for reflection or reassessment--fitting since her inspiration is the song Reflection from Mulan!
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y!
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y!
Color: Green
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y!
Inspiration: "Reflection" -- Mulan

"Reflection" is a song from the 1998 animated film Mulan. The song was performed within the movie's narrative by Fa Mulan sung by Lea Salonga, in order to show how much Mulan wanted to honor her family.

Personality Fansith, at first glance, appears to be just your ordinary green! ...At least, so she’s trying very, very hard to be. She is a quiet, dignified dragon, soft spoken and and trying her darndest to emulate some of her green sisters and cousins. She struggles, internally, because she really isn’t the good, perfect green she should be. She isn’t a particularly sweet or earnest girl, and she is (secretly) an immensely talented dragon. Fansith struggles, knowing her talents will never be stretched while simultaneously attempting to smother those thoughts so that she can fit in. As much as she knows she could be extraordinary, there’s no place at High Reaches for it…and the thought that her family might be shamed due to her actions is an agonizing one.

As brave as her mother is for openly accepting a blue as her lover and father for her clutches (Fansith isn’t counting biology here), she’s still forced to mate with ‘acceptable’ colors. If a green were to try and make themselves heard in High Reaches, she has no doubt the blame would fall squarely on her mother and her ‘strange’ fancies. Fansith does her best to keep her head down and work as hard as she can, often pushing herself beyond her limit in an attempt to prove what she’s worth.

She often despairs that something is wrong with her. Her most of her other family members seem ready to accept the status quo. Why can’t she? She isn’t asking for anything radical…. She just believes that chromatics should have a voice in things. A bronze dragon will never understand what a green must do, and vice versa. If shining would put her family at risk… sometimes she thinks it’d be best to fade into obscurity.

Dutiful, Clever, Brave, Torn, Relentless, Foolhardy

Size: 24'
Physical Attributes: An average sized green, Fansith possesses quite the long neck and tail, though her limbs are rather short. She looks awkward on the ground as a result, but in the air, she cuts a sinuous and elegant figure. She excels at both speed and stamina (for a green).

Additional Notes: Fansith pushes herself hard, and has injured herself as a result
before. If she were allowed, she'd probably be the sort to try and last a full Fall, ignoring her body's need for rest and recuperation. Love is the farthest thing from this green's mind, and she can be a little dense when it comes to romantic advances. Anyone who bluntly expressed their feelings for her would undoubtedly fluster the heck out of her. Her family is of utmost importance to her, and she would do anything for them.

Why Me: Both Il'ux and Fansith want to be the best they can be... but they go about it in very different ways. Where Il'ux is prone to be brash and loud, Fansith will advocate for stealthier means.... mostly as a way to prevent making too many waves. Il'ux will simply not allow Fansith to fade into obscurity, and Fansith will make certain that Il'ux has bonds he can rely on besides herself. Fansith was drawn to the young man by his sense of honor and duty, and Il'ux completely fell into Fansith's need to do everything she could to protect those she loved.

- - -
What were they like in weyrling training? Il’ux and Fansith applied themselves vigorously to their studies, though the pair of them did get smacked down harshly early into their life at the Weyr for trying to rise upon their means. It was a sharp, but effective reminder of how things were run at High Reaches. Il’ux was all icy fury, but bit his tongue for Fansith’s sake, as the green was highly distraught at the thought of shaming her family for her desires.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings? Though Il’ux was undoubtedly aloof and not afraid to heap judgement on others, he would have slowly softened and even begun to rely on his fellow Weyrlings for assistance. It became apparent that he and Fansith couldn’t do everything on their own… and maybe….he even liked some of them? Fansith was always courteous, but quiet, and would have tried to be there for all her siblings and cousins.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons? The rigidity of the lessons didn’t bother either of the pair as much as the fact that they were limited due to Fansith’s color.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between? Fansith was absolutely devastated, and even Il’ux was brought to private tears. Could they have done more? If they’d stopped to reassure everyone before beginning their lesson, would that have saved K’ell and Eskharath or Cavera and Aviforth? Fansith was grey and listless for quite some time, and it was all Il’ux could do to get her to eat. He, in desperation, probably reached out to his fellow Weyrlings, asking if their dragons would mind spending time grieving with her to help her through it.

How did they do during Threadfall? Both dragon and rider received some scores, but otherwise their first Threadfall was a resounding success! Though Il’ux was extremely proud of them, Fansith was just grateful that no more of her family had perished.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return? Il’ux was horrified when Thread returned, but if it hadn’t, he never would have taken the jump to come to the Weyr in the first place. He’s ferociously set on giving his all to the fight. Fansith is equally determined to do what she can… though, deep in her hearts… she thinks she could do more than she’s allowed.

Anything else? More family jam, sorry not sorry!

We're Going to Disneyworld!

Name: Arysa
Age: 19
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heteromantic Bisexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Weyrling
Previous Rank/Craft: Herbalist, basic healing skills (no formal Craft training)

Physical Description:
A willowy and slender young woman, Arysa stands below average height at 5’3, and cuts a less than impressive figure amongst the dragonriding lot. Muscle doesn’t stick well to her frame, though she has a greater endurance than her petite form might first indicate. There is an air of youthfulness about her, perhaps in the earnest glint of her lilac eyes.

She has an elfin face, framed by bark brown, side-swept bangs. She keeps her wavy hair up in a runner-tail and tied off with a pink sash, though when let loose it reaches her lower back. Her skin is a light tan, going a little darker in summer. She emanates an aura of trustworthiness, able to put people at their ease with a mere smile. Ary’s ‘healer’s bedmanner’ always seems to shine through, no matter what kind of company or conversation she might be maintaining.

This young lady dresses mostly for practicality and ease of motion, preferring looser flowing clothing, but can dress to impress in the right circumstance. This often leaves her feeling flustered and embarrassed, as though she is out of sorts in a dress or skirt. She likes the comfort of having pouches available to gather herbs, and her gloves for picking thorny plants.

Personality:
A wonderfully pure, beautiful and earnest soul wrapped up in anxious fluff and powerfully low self-esteem, Arysa is a dependable young woman who tries her best for everyone and everything, at great personal cost. She is rather weak-willed due to her desire to please others, and has a tendency to become emotionally and physically exhausted; sometimes it might be considered a strength, because even at her worst she will still try her hardest. In most cases, however, it is not a good thing: she still lacks the will and courage to take a stand for herself, and say no when she pushes or is pushed past her coping limits.

Her work ethic is one of dedication and meticulousness, for she takes great pride in what she can do for those around her. She is her own worst critic, and may spend far longer than necessary on a task if it doesn’t meet her ridiculously high standards. Sometimes she ignores reason and logic in pursuit of craft perfection or honouring her duty to people, and needs reminding that life will go on regardless of her effort levels.

Ary has a tendency to worry a lot, especially when situations are outside of her control, and doubly so in medical circumstances. She hates feeling powerless or helpless, and will endeavour to take any measure to make sure she can care for others; even if that means stepping up and taking charge. As she normally hates the spotlight, it can be an extremely trying time. She has a cool head in a crisis, a talent developed as a healer, and sensitivity to the needs of others that make her a kind and empathic leader. Despite this, worry gnaws deeply in her heart, and she struggles to make time for herself, consumed by a fear that people will be hurt or die if she is not ever vigilant.

A true friend, Ary will refrain from judgement until she gets to know a person, then give them her loyalty and respect. She is both confidant and advisor, more than happy to play the big sister or mediator role should the need arise. She puts other people's needs before her own, making her a great asset in friendship, but also easily manipulated and used. Her anger is very controlled, and as a consequence she may seem subdued when, in fact, she feels frustrated or wronged deep down. She bottles up her feelings because she cannot accept that her own opinions and thoughts matter- unless someone requests her advice on a subject.

In romance, she is extremely traditional. She keeps crushes to herself, though there are certain tells: nervous stuttering and blushing being the main two. She expects to be courted by her true love, and will become rather frustrated if things happen outside of her grand romantic plans. Ary likes to daydream about her future, and envisions having a family that will love her as much as she loves them.

Positive Trait List: Meticulous, Trustworthy, Sensitive
Negative Trait List: Self-critical, Chronic People-Pleaser, Worrier

History:
Born in Cauldron cothold to parents who worked in the mines, Arysa's early life was filled with love and joyful simplicity. At age seven, her parents passed away from a bad case of firehead. Arysa was young, but not too young to start blaming herself for their deaths- had she been better at caring for them during the worst of the fever, would they have survived? She carries that guilt to this day.

Perhaps she wasn't the only one, for one of the cothold's healers, an old Journey woman by the name of Levea, adopted her soon after. She was a dry and seemingly irritable old woman, whose old and wrinkled face hid a soft and loving heart. She taught Arysa herbalism as the girl grew older, instructing her in natural remedies, and giving her a basic introduction to midwifery from a cothold perspective. Arysa strove not to disappoint her- partly out of gratitude, but also in the hopes that in the future, she might be able to avert tragedies like the ones that struck her parents. Levea's skills had not been sufficient, but perhaps with Arysa's help…

The Turns passed. At fifteen, she stumbled upon a hatching firelizard clutch, and was able to Impress a beautiful golden flitter. She trained the Queen to the best of her ability, hoping perhaps the firelizard would help in finding useful herbs.

Shortly before her eighteenth Turnday, she was Searched for the High Reaches double clutch. She accepted candidacy at Levea's urging, who secretly yearned for the girl to experience a vaster world than that offered by the boundaries of her cothold. So, Arysa was whisked away to the Weyr, where she discovered the life of a candidate was far less glamorous than even the Teaching ballads had prepared her for. She stuck at it, chasing meticulous perfection like she did in every other aspect of her life, and found that soon her body got used to the physical demands, and that the lessons were much less confusing.

She did not feel prepared as blood was spilled on Hatching Day, and what was supposed to be a happy and glorious moment was instead marred by death and pain. At first horrified, she gritted her teeth and forced herself to stay alert lest something befall her too. She felt something surge up inside of her- a need, a desire to protect, a wish…

I feel it too. Don't worry, my Arysa. Your Lilikith won't let anything befall our family. I especially won't let anyone take you from me. It was a soft voice that rose up in her mind, wrapping around her thoughts and feelings with such tenderness as to be a hug. The voice was firm but agreeable, soft yet fierce in one go, and there was power within that mind that caused her to gasp slightly.

Lilikith butted her gently where she stood, her eyes whirling with rainbows, though tinged with reds and greys on the outskirts. Such possessive need, Arysa had never experienced- was it hers or Lili's? She bent down and wrapped her arms around the dragon's neck, pressing her forehead against Lilikith's own. "I won't leave you. I promise." Lilikith had summoned courage with her loving, wondrous touch- and now more than ever Arysa knew she had to live, and help others do so as well.

The loss of their sister and fellow Weyrling left them empty with sadness during the Feast, and neither of them could bring themselves to enjoy the celebration. Weyrling training began the day afterwards, each day packed with lessons and training enough to exhaust a girl. Arysa was determined to do her best, and spent a great deal of her free time studying or helping others with their studies. Lilikith, for the most part, was content in basking in sunshine and keeping watch over her clutchmates.

Losing more friends and comrades during the /Between/ lesson brought them even lower, and both Arysa and Lilikith leaned on each other to overcome their grief. There was a strong desire to shoulder personal guilt and accountability (could they have done more? They should have done more!), but it was through the help of the Weyrlingmasters that they managed to get through such a sad part of their training. Lilikith recovered quicker, now reinforcing the pillar that was their shared bond, and Arysa was dragged out of her personal pity party by a fierce and unyielding green. They still had each other, and they still had family. The Weyr was still there, and they needed to stand to protect it.

During their first Fall, Lilikith took a bad score across her chest in an effort to dive and flame Thread another wingmate had missed. The sudden manoeuvre dislocated Arysa's shoulder, and both were reprimanded for their lack of thought and general carelessness. They healed and returned to the Wings quick enough, Lilikith determined to fight with all of her might, and Arysa building up more of her certainty and willpower to keep her independent-minded dragon in check.

Other: Ary has a gold firelizard that I’m still trying to name… ._.;

DRAGON
Name: Lilikith
Origin of Name: Lilikith is based on He Mele No Lilo, or A Song For Lilo in English, from the movie Lilo and Stitch.

The name Lilikith is inspired by the first Queen regnant and last sovereign monarch of Hawai’i, Lili’uokalani. She was a fierce and staunch protector of her people, devoted to their welfare and happiness. Queen Lili’uokalani attempted to restore the power of the monarchy and give the economically disenfranchised the ability to vote in Hawai’i, but a coup eventuated in her being deposed. She continued to challenge a heavily patriarchal government long after her arrest.

- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
- - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y
Color: Green
- - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y (either green or blue is fine, but not brown, should Lilikith be chosen)
Inspiration: He Mele No Lilo - Disney’s Lilo and Stitch || (written lyric translation)

Personality
Relaxed to the point of downright laziness, Lilikith is a very chill dragon until the right buttons are pressed, or she is pushed too far, or her loved ones are threatened. She has an extraordinary hot and volatile temper, and is more than capable of dressing down anyone, regardless of rank. She has anti-traditionalist views, and genuinely believes every dragon is equal no matter what colour their hide might be. Lilikith cares deeply for her Weyr and family, and will protect them fiercely, with all of her might.

A force to be reckoned with, Lilikith is strong-willed and passionate at her core. Her intensity is greatly tempered by her love for resting, philosophical ponderings and nature, and some of her favourite past-times including sunbathing and swimming. She is very sociable, and enjoys all kinds of company- from human to VTOL to the crankiest of dragon or wher. She is able to see the beauty in most things- save perhaps for pain and death- and has a great respect for the natural world around her. Lilikith is drawn to like-minded fellows in particular, and has a great respect and appreciation for those who treat nature and kin with reverence and kindness.

She is not one for orders, and must be taught obedience and structure in order to fare well in Fall. As a weyrling she will struggle to learn her place in the Wing, but as she gains more experience fighting Fall, she will understand what purpose she serves in the great fight against Thread. Age and maturity will help make her wiser, though nothing replaces a great role model and a disciplined rider. Those who look past her lazy, sassy ways will see great potential and loyalty, and a good leader will inspire her to fight to her very best and follow directions.

She dreams of being an auntie, and would love to be around fellow queens and dote upon their children. She also loves young humans too, and would make an excellent Searchdragon due to her sensitivity. Lilikith is occasionally prone to molly-coddling, but takes requests for space rather well. It’s nothing personal, after all- as long as you come back someday for more… She’ll always be around to welcome you with open wings and headboops.

Though chill and easy-going for the most part, if her precious Ary is threatened, Lilikith won’t hesitate to snap. Her temper is phenomenal, almost as if she goes from sweet to bloodthirsty at a click of one’s fingers. She has no qualms causing pain should her Ary be in danger- be it physically or emotionally. Her anger is terrifying to behold.

Positive Trait List: Relaxed, Nurturing, Protective
Negative Trait List: Volatile, Independent, Lazy

Size: 26’

Physical Attributes:
A rather round and roly-poly kind of dragon, Lilikith emanates an air of adorableness and cuteness. She'll never be lean and graceful in the air, nor the most acrobatic or quick, but she has greater endurance than some of her green sisters, and is surprisingly adept at swimming.

Additional Notes:
Lilikith yearns for children of her own- but will gladly be auntie to her sisters' own hatchings, or mother to any of Arysa's humanlings. She loves the idea of a True Love, but isn't certain she would know how to recognise it; therefore she will likely have a selection of favourites before she decides who she likes the most. She has a preference for the more outspoken types, who show loyalty to family and Weyr (as well as her, in part).

Her flame is long and burns hot, but it also burns out quickly. She demands a lot of firestone as a consequence but doesn't seem to suffer from tummy ache that much.

Why Me:
Arysa, the meticulous, the worrier, the girl who would give body and soul to fix the world- well, she needs to chill, all right? No better dragon suitable for the task than Lilikith, who is very talented at relaxing, but whose hot temper will protect her rider from being emotionally trampled. Ary needs a guardian who would step up and say no more when her own words failed her.

As for Lilikith; her devotion to family and her joy of togetherness finds its match in Arysa's desire to help everyone. Lilikith needs her pure altruism to remember that family is more about giving than what one can receive. They are complementary in work ethics, too- where Lilikith is too relaxed (to the point of laziness), yet Arysa is a diligent perfectionist who dislikes slacking off.

They share a love of traditional romance, although their pursuit differs somewhat. Lilikith's open ways may help Arysa explore her own feelings for others, instead of bottling them up.

What were they like in weyrling training?
Arysa was a brilliant student- renowned for being a swot (albeit a helpful one). Lilikith, on the other hand, was a paragon of chill- something that might have drawn unnecessary commentary from others. Both proved themselves reliable in tough situations, and were more than happy to socialise with even the shyer classmates.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings?
Arysa might have been the soft, naive friend or big sister people wanted or needed; she has the qualities of confidant and fool both. Lilikith, on the other hand, would absolutely not tolerate any mistreatment of her rider, and should she suspect anyone of taking advantage of her precious Ary, she would tear into them verbally. Lilikith's anger was notorious when triggered, as it was such a switch from her normally relaxed self.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons?
Arysa abides fine by rules, and understands the need for them. Lilikith, on the other hand, did not see any use for them whatsoever, and rather thought they were inconvenient. She did not enjoy following them, and had to be disciplined by her rider when possible/necessary.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between?
Not Well. They required assistance from friends and the Weyrlingmasters to overcome their sorrow-guilt combo. Lilikith rallied quicker, and pushed Arysa out of her funk. It took a while to recover, but any family-related injury or death seems to hit them harder than normal.

How did they do during Threadfall?
During their first Fall, Lilikith dove for a clump of Thread that blew back into her chest. She suffered a score that has resulted in a lasting knotted scar.

As Lilikith moved without warning or thought for Arysa, the young woman was wrenched in her straps and dislocated her shoulder.

Both made a good recovery and have returned to the wings.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return?
Arysa is not happy- death rain was exactly the last thing people need in order to live. Both she and Lilikith are fiercely opposed to Thread, and willing to lay down their lives to protect others.

Anything else?
Sorry if this is messy/poorly written. I'm tired and haven't been able to spell check as much as normal. =[

I Got My Acceptance Letter!

    Name: M'llin (formerly Morellin)

    Age: 23

    Sex: Male

    Sexual Orientation: Intoxication- and goldflight-sexual

    Weyr: High Reaches Weyr

    Rider Rank: Weyrling

    Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Healer

    Physical Description:
    • Shortish, black, wavy hair with a longer purple streak that is usually drawn into a braid (the streak, not all of his hair)
    • Purplish-gray eyes
    • Light brown skin
    • A little over six feet tall
    • Large hands, a strong jaw, and broad across the shoulders
    • Chooses clothing that makes him appear daintier than he is

Personality: While not as imposing as those who strive to become so, M'llin is still a large, bulky man who would prefer to be anything but. He has had to work very hard at containing what he sees as his unwieldy form, and over the years he has grown hedonistic and vain as a result, adopting affectations and behaviors that painted him as outwardly ineffectual so that people might not expect too much. Once you have spent any amount of time around him, however, it is easy to see that he is driven and sure of himself in everything that doesn't require him to think too hard about his thick fingers or stocky frame. He is an understanding and truly neutral man, and in his work as a healer he was often asked by his colleagues to give their patients the news they didn't want to hear. Difficult solutions just sounded more convincing coming from Morellin.

Positive Trait List: confident, diplomatic, tough
Negative Trait List: vain, self-indulgent, clumsy

History: Morellin started life as a rough and rambunctious boy raised amidst a sprawling traders' caravan. He didn't think much about which particular pair of people might have been his true parents until he was around six, but even when he found out, it didn't matter. He was well loved, well fed, suitably entertained, and had the gift of attentiveness. Despite his tender age, people came to him to unload their problems, and the only times he stopped laughing and playing were when he was listening to them. It wasn't a surprise when a passing healer tapped Morellin for her Hall a few years later, and it was with little reluctance that he headed to Fort Hold to start his training.

It was the biggest mistake of his life. Or so he thought.

Training to be a healer was hard, especially for a little boy who was better at awkwardly tossing soft goods into carts than painstakingly stitching people up. He struggled with the simplest of physical tasks while acing all of his theoretical exams, and as the years passed, his self image fractured like a broken mirror. There was rarely any outright mockery, but Morellin had always been good at reading people, and he was well aware that his teachers were routinely disappointed. He alternated between feverish bouts of studying and overindulgence, working five times as hard as his fellow apprentices when it seemed the powers that be were tiring of him. He wanted this more than anything, but making it work felt impossible for a very long time.

He was twenty-two when he finally walked the tables, and it was only a few months after than when he was searched to stand for Rhianth and Fianth's clutches. Morellin nearly said no—it didn't seem smart to take a break from his career when it had only really just begun—but in the end, he couldn't help doing one last thing for himself.

Other: Believe it or not, Morellin was far more buttoned up before he Impressed. Bonding with Pravdath has taken the edge off of what used to be a sharper self-hatred, and M'llin is steadily crawling toward greater acceptance. His fellow weyrlings would have noticed him growing out the purple braid, if nothing else.

DRAGON

    Name: Pravdath

Origin of Name: Pravda means 'truth' in Russian.
    - - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragon's theme to fit a different NPC slot? Y
    - - - - > If your theme type is a duplicate of another winning entry, would you also be okay with the dragon being a twin? Y

    Color: Blue.
    - - - - > Would you be willing to change the dragons color/sex to fit a different NPC slot? Y

Inspiration: Veritaserum is a powerful truth serum that is clear, colorless, odorless, and nearly indistinguishable from water. The potion effectively forces its drinker to answer any questions put to them truthfully, so while its victims state what they believe to be true, their answers might not necessarily be the truth. Despite being the strongest truth serum in existence, it can still be resisted through several different methods, including its antidote and the use of Occlumency.

Personality: True to his inspiration, Pravdath is not inclined to lying, but that doesn't mean he isn't deceptive. Silence is always an option, and it's one that he takes more often than not. If that makes him seem cold, Pravdath doesn't mind. Those who get to know him understand that he gleans enjoyment from picking apart the world and understanding why people and dragons behave the way they do, though a freshly-caught wherry is pretty great too.

Pravdath is a realist. He knows there are plenty of dragons who long to shake up the system, but until he sees someone come up with a something better, he's fine with things the way they are. Maybe that someone will be him. It's certainly no one at Western, at least not yet. Sorry, Western.

    Size: 25'

Physical Attributes: Slender and slightly on the smaller side, Pravdath's proportions are otherwise average in almost every way, specifically limb, tail, wing, headknob, and neck length. His feet are a bit larger than normal and he has wide, earnest eyes which make appear innocent, no matter how he's actually feeling.

Additional Notes: Pravdath's flame is shorter than many other smaller dragons', but he mostly makes up for it with speed and a willingness to fight to the very end of his capability. He will chase regularly but not excessively, and though he will be rather brusque about it all, he is definitely not incapable of love. For the dragon who challenges his mind and understands his unsentimental point of view he will fall hard, and once he is sure of how he feels, he will not be afraid to tell them all about it.

Why Me: Pravdath saw beneath Morellin's manicured exterior and he liked the tousled, grinning mindhealer he found there. His past might have fit him poorly, but that was only because he hadn't found Pravdath yet.

Morellin. Your Pravdath has so much to do, but I cannot do it without you.

M'llin has a way of being heard and a diplomacy that Pravdath lacks, and Pravdath has the ability to accept the truest parts of M'llin and show him that being himself isn't all that terrible.

- - -

What were they like in weyrling training?
While they always did what they were meant to eventually, M'llin and Pravdath never wanted to be the first to complete a task. They are much more comfortable watching how something is done before attempting it themselves, and when they were chosen to lead an exercise, there were always put-upon glances and sighs directed at their weyrlingmaster. When they were allowed to observe before participating, they generally did at least a passable job at whatever was thrown at them, if not an excellent one.

How did they get along with their other weyrlings?
Both human and dragon were personable and friendly through their months of junior and senior weyrlinghood, amenable to making friends and initiating activities designed to draw others to them. They are not the types to approach first, so closed off pairs might not know them as well as more extroverted ones.

How did they feel about weyrling training and the strict rules and lessons?
M'llin was used to hard work and pushing himself to please his teachers, so he was the driving force behind most of the earlier successes they had during training. Neither minded their lessons once they got going. Had M'llin been forced to cease more pleasurable distractions for longer than half a year he might have had a problem with it all, but that seemed like a small price to pay for Pravdath's company.

How did they handle their fellow weyrlings death during their first solo trips Between?
They were sad. They got over it. M'llin is rather familiar with injuries and death, so though he was upset, he took it as an opportunity to share his pragmatic views on life and its end with his dragon. Pravdath predictably agreed with his rider's matter-of-fact assessment. They both thought it was more important to attend to their more upset classmates and, for a time, their shoulders were regularly wet with others' tears.

How did they do during Threadfall?
M'llin has done everything in his power to lighten his Thread scars, though thankfully, there haven't been too many of them. Pravdath hasn't been as lucky, suffering a strike that took a number of the toes on his back left foot. Now that they've healed, he doesn't think about his injuries as more than learning experiences.

How do they feel about Threadfall's return?
At the time, M'llin was grateful that there would be plenty of work for him going forward. He certainly worried about his family and continues to do so to this day. Both he and Pravdath might not want their lives to come to an abrupt and painful end, but they have a shared and unwavering belief that they can make a difference. They cannot afford to be frightened or reluctant, not when they can help keep people alive.

    Anything else? gaia_star

First Thing's First...

Hey guys!

First and foremost, Cheri and I have been reading entries as thye've been entered and taking notes. That said, we have been reading and re-reading everything and before we make our winners known, we want to make sure that you guys know what you're getting into if you DO win. As well as what happens if you don't!

Winners
Just because we chose a prompt does not mean that they are going to stay as is! In fact, there are quite a few things we've read that are going to need reworking. In some cases, this reworking could change the profile immensely, so we're going to need you guys to be flexible. While we enjoyed the concepts, there definitely were things we would have no choice but to call out and have you fix. Reworking these characters is definitely going to happen, so please don't assume that what you wrote is the final call!

Treat this win not as the final product, but a rough draft.

If you don't think you can handle possible major revisions to your profile (including names, history, personality, or other things) then please let us know now! If you won't work with us to get the profile to fit in our version of Pern then we need to know because it might well change whether or not your entry is allowed to win or not.

While we enjoyed a lot of the entries, there were some things that just don't work in the setting we created, or our Pern in general. If you can't handle fixing up the character, then let us know now, so we can home one of these NPCs to someone who will be open to writing an entry that fits.

For those who can accept critique, please fill out the usual "dragonrider" form in approvals, and Cheri and I will start to QC them. We ask you enter them sooner than later, so we can begin the revision process. Please, try not to immediately plot your character until they're approved, since you don't know what might need fixing!

Please let us know that these are NPC wins somewhere in the approval thread just in case we forget. gaia_star

Also, we will be assigning colorists to the winning dragons in question. We will not drop them until they are ALL colored so it could be some time before you see art. <3 Rest assured, it will be on the way -- you can RP them before you get the art provided they pass QC/approvals.

Losing Entries
For entries that aren't picked, please note that you will HAVE to throw away their theme, and rework them into more standard Pern dragons than whatever theme they're inspired by. While you can use the rider and place them with another dragon, or quest for them, for the dragon you have to change them so they're not just rips off their original themes.

Why?

Because cosplay dragons aren't allowed and the only dragons in EoP that should be based on themes are our Hatching Dragons.

You may take the rider personality and turn them into a Candidate if they're of the proper age. You may take the dragon and rework their name and personality so they are unique they just won't be part of the clutch. If they stand out too much like a themed cosplay, though, Cheri and I may ask you to tone it down.

All that said, we appreciate all the work you guys put in! Thank you for participating!

And The Winners Are...

Please note, the ONLY reason we were able to give everyone a derg was because numbers allowed for us to do a little tweaking without breaking the game. It's the season of giving, after all, and we appreciate all of you taking the time to enter!

Please, do not expect this to happen in future NPC contests. In fact, if we'd gotten another entry or two, we very well wouldn't have been able to give everyone something, so for anyone who didn't enter, please don't be upset! :c There will be other NPC clutches of course and always more dragons to give away!

Additionally -- if you notice it looks like the clutch records weren't input accurately! WHOOPS! The numbers were just a little off and one NPC green was actually an NPC blue! Whoops! The Weyr will correct this blunder in their records immediately. Just a little bit of smudged ink, after all.
