Cyrus was starting to get the hang of this training as simplistic as it was and listening to the redhead explain in some detail how to use the throw he'd pulled on before; in hindsight, it was pretty simple science; gravity could do more for you if you were a smaller target and the other person was big, it was simply all about using the right pressure and angles to pull it off as Kasai said; he'd simply never considered using such things for self-defence before though. Still the others advice helped him to get a solid grasp of the basics though he knew he still had more to learn...it made him wish they could just move onto ranged stuff, he was far better with his bow and he itched to show this place that it could have practical use; as old fashioned and archaic as a bow and arrow was these days they were still deadly weapons when handled properly and he intended to use it to protect the mages to the best of his ability.

The brunette was rather suddenly jerked out of the rhythm of punches that he had built up as he stopped, his head snapping up in Sayu's direction at the strange girl suddenly calling him out to be her partner, his eyes widened a little because he knew in an instant he'd have no chance against her; clearly, she had experience in close combat where he did not; perhaps not to the extent of someone like Kasai or Mika but she was no slouch in that aspect and her movements seemed erratic, unpredictable which would make her a difficult person to pin down."Uh..."

Thankfully Kasai shot her down and he couldn't help feel a large wave of relief wash over him; while he expected that there would be times he'd get knocked down and would have to push himself to improve a fight against someone clearly aiming to 'have fun and not actually train him would no doubt wind up being a humiliating experience for whoever would face her. "Yeah I'll pass I'd rather not get a broken nose, I can't have my handsome features sullied" He joked; in truth, he didn't care that much about his looks but he was using it as a defensive measure to hide how nervous he'd actually been at the thought of actually fighting Sayu.

Cyrus waved a hand in dismissal and flashed the other a relieved smile at the others mouthed apology; he knew the other hadn't really meant offence besides he had a decently thick skin about these sorts of things due to incidents happening in the recent past.

Spade then ordered the mage Mika to teach the tangerine girl a lesson and BOY did she.

He watched curiously as Mika stepped up, obeying Spades order as Sayu mocked her for crying before and calling Maasaki a wuss which made Cyrus frown somewhat; there was more to strength than just the physical and Maasaki from the looks of him was physically frail, yes, but he had a good heart and a strong will, and sometimes those things mattered more than how well one could fight.

Mika clearly took offence to this as the two began fighting and while Sayu got some hits in they were mostly superficial as Mika sprained the girl's wrist before storing on her heel to make her stay down and then slamming her elbow down on her spine each savage attack making Cyrus wince somewhat; Mika was the real deal alright...he wasn't sure what effect this would have on Sayu who saw all of this as a game, but seeing her so thorough bested and left with a threat before being kicked in the ribs, He was sure the orange-haired girl's ego and pride had likely been bruised. "Not going to lie I am very glad that's not me" He muttered with a soft sigh as he looked back at Kasai "Let's continue Im not gonna get the hang of this without practice"

Ikki looked over at Mika as she spoke, resting his chin on his shoulder. She said something like them scars were proof of what Eris'd gone through to be here now. Ikki's parents always conspired about why they didn't like UDA. Saying things like lots of kids died during experimentation and a lot couldn't control their powers, so they were euthanized. His baby girl had gone through a lot, but she was still his little lady! He fell in love with the cutie in the bean bag chair. Not the tragic past, but he liked learning about her and knowing what she'd been through. Mika's point was right on! "Yea, you're right," Ikki agreed, flashing a smile towards Mika. He wasn't gonna let the actions of the past damage or dictate the views he had of everyone around him. His mind was already starting to think all the mages had tragic and tough pasts when Mika told him they all had scars. Looking up at the rigid bombshell, he grinned at her before accepting her hand to stand. They were all born with specific natures, but nurtured into their personalities. Even now they were growing!

Holding Mika's hand for a second, Ikki was kind of gettin' used to the buzzy tingle from the electric mana. It tickled at this point! Flashin' her a grin, he was startin' to think they could be friends! Man, she may be bitchy, but the things she had gone through here at UDA probably made her pretty rigid. She was kind of different around Masaaki, like Eris was with Ikki, but he was kind of gettin' why she was the way she was. But when she asked him about magic, he drew a blank stare.
"Did I... When we... OH YEAH! I TOTALLY DID!" adrenaline pumped through his veins, totally jazzing him up as he realized he had knocked Mika down with some invisible force. "Yo! Ain't it Eri-chan's power? She does little things now and again and I saw her fight the Empyrean and she saved me from Willow with crazy power, and I know Masaa-man used your abilities, but they told us is was cause of the poison stuff he got when biting the Empyrean- Am I turning into a Mage!?" he was so excited, dancing around Mika and getting right up in her face as he babbled like a kid overly enthused!

"Kabuto."
Ikki froze in place at Spade-sama's stern voice. Like his neck was made of rusty hinges, he turned towards the agent as he demanded the kid face him. "Me!? You!? M-M-Mika-" he stammered, trying to wrap his head around facing the big boss and his super cool idol. He turned to Mika thinking she would help but- SHE WAS GONE! "Defend!"

Spade was on him! Man, he thought Mika was fast, but Spade was a whole other gear. Ikki blocked the kick, but not much good it did. Spade was freaking strong. One hit from the dude, and Ikki was pretty sure he had a fractured bone in his forearm. Ikki nearly choked on his own adam's apple as Spade's arm came around and hooked him. On his back for the 100th time today, Ikki tried to cough and gasp for some air but his chest wouldn't expand! Spade's knee was pressed into his chest and the dude's cap felt like a steel sledge hammer! It didn't stop there though. Spade grabbed him around the neck, stopping any chances of breathing. Ikki was already red in the face. He clawed at Spade, weakly hitting his arms trying to get him to let up. Ikki even tapped out, but Spade wasn't letting go. He could feel his eyes wanting to roll back into his skull, but Ikki fought it. Vision blacking out, he grabbed onto Spade's wrists before a gust of mana rushed out from his body to push Spade up, but not completely off of him. He took the opening the magic gave him to bring his knee up to hit Spade in the back while Ikki pushed up with his other leg to thrust Spade off of him. Rolling to his side, Ikki's throat hurt like hell as he rasply coughed for air. He couldn't talk, but he stumbled to get to both feet with a "WHAT THE HELL BROH!?" look on his face.

Previous recorded encounters with Empyrean and any descriptions or witness details, etc. He supposed since they had the recordings from the Shore encounter, they hadn't needed anybody to sketch the description. Plus, once Kyrie got to look at the USB, Masaaki had made a digital representation of it. The cocooning, like the one they encountered on the Shore. Was it in the middle of its evolution then, that it would have gone through that Chrysalis stage and change to something else. "How much worse are they when they evolve..." Murmuring, afraid to encounter one in that phase after the cocoon phase.

                                                    tab tab 🎮 Empyrean that were past the barrier for years, scribbling a couple questions down as he voiced them aloud. "If they've been past the barrier for years...able to cocoon and adapt and grow stronger...how were they running under the radar for years. How were they surviving...When they get past the barrier and they need to cocoon...is it a way for them to grow stronger and adapt to our atmosphere maybe?" Wondering, if it was something like space, where you couldn't breathe up there without a helmet and oxygen. Then there was the whole Empyrean mind ******** thing, where it had put Masaaki into that nightmare that Alpha had helped him out of. Blinking when he remembered that, Alpha, he hadn't gotten to ask since the even on the Shore any questions about that experience. He'd meant to ask Mika, if she knew who that was.

                                                    tab tab 🎮 Scribbling some more things down, why had he heard that melody when he was with Mika and Spade, but neither of them had. It seemed the Empyrean could communicate long distances, since Masaaki had started hearing it in his dreams/nightmares before they'd gotten closer to the Shore when he heard it louder. Why was it that others had gone crazy, like it seemed Willow had. Other file reports of the same thing, people seeming brain washed and going berserk. As he was looking at the files, Masaaki came across one sketch of an Empyrean humanoid encounter several years back.

                                                    tab tab 🎮 As Eris was futzing with recordings nearby, Masaaki hearing the static noise, goosebumps were rising on his skin. The more he looked at the frightening sketch, the more breathless he'd felt. A sudden wave of fear, panic, washing over him, and he hadn't even gotten to the notes yet. "S-stop it," blinking his eyes shut trying to focus, he heard words spoken that seemed so far away. Gasping when his mind flashed, seeing and hearing something with a jarring quality. As if he was seeing a recording,

                                                    Year 2X04
                                                    [Age 10]

                                                    Small combat boots clicked together in the dark, looking around a military transport bus filled with soldiers and children. Many of the children are nervous, but not Mika. A commanding officer walks up and down the aisle repeating their mission to retake a downed pylon for the Empyrean barrier. Sitting next to Mika is a young Agent Spade and another agent Mika seemed familiar with; Agent Sparrow. Sparrow is uneasy, but Spade is calm. The commanding officer announces a high risk of Empyrean encounter. Mika knows,"Most of them will die, but as long as I do as Spade-sensei says, I won't." Sparrow starts talking, "Ah, Spark. Its your time to shine. All that hard training is going to pay off. Keep us safe out there." He flashed a smile, like he always did. It usually cheered her up and got her excited to train, but Mika could tell he was scared. She nods, but looks up to Spade feeling a little uneasy because Sparrow is nervous. His eyes look down at her, but his expression remains as stone cold as ever. Until, he lets out a little wink Mika's way making her as calm as a kitten with just that small playful gesture.

                                                    [Flash]

                                                    The animated group on the bus was nothing but corpses now. Twisted and mangled, gutted and severed. Chest heaving for air, Mika was tired. Blood, dirt and sweat caked her skin. Her magic crackled against the cold wintery air as she had her hand on the pylon's battery to jumpstart it. Spade was beside her, gun ready to fire. Sparrow was in front of them, firing into the dark. A wounded Empyrean stalked from the safety of the dead bodies, being kept at bay by the gunfire. It moved like a wraith, only its piercing eyes distinguishable from the night. They had been fighting it for five hours. The pylon whirred as its systems started rebooting. Sparrow ceased fire.
                                                    "That's it. Mika keep your eyes on the Empyrean. Sparrow fall back!" Spade called out. But something was wrong. A crackling noise- like radio static- filled everyone's ears as Sparrow started to turn towards them. The Empyrean didn't move, it remained where it was but its presence was all around them. Mika winced, feeling sick... as if she were breathing poison. It didn't seem to affect Spade at all. "Fall back!" He shouted again, but Sparrow had gone lethargic. "EEEEEmpYre-an." It was Sparrow's voice, but it was distorted with the static. He turned towards them, eyes rolled back into his skull and body convulsed until his gun pointed at them. His eyes returned, but shook with fear. "Monster... Monster! MONSTER! Stand clear!" Spade rose his gun in response, the two facing off as Mika did as Spade ordered and kept her eyes on the Empyrean.

                                                    "Lower your weapon, soldier!" Spade realized who Sparrow was aiming at.
                                                    "Get away from that demon, Ace!"
                                                    "The demon is at your six!" his safety was off.
                                                    "Her existence defiles us all!"
                                                    "Mage Spark is our ally. The Empyrean enemy is at your back!" Spade had seen this behavior before.
                                                    "Empyrean is not the enemy! Mages are scorn upon the earth."
                                                    "Lower your weapon or I will open fire!" the final warning was given, but Spade knew the exchange of words was merely a countdown.
                                                    "The gate awaits you! The gAte a-a-aWaits yooooU!"

                                                    The Empyrean lurched forward as the two guns opened fire. Bullets pummeled Sparrow's body, spraying the cold air with burning crimson. Mika's wires shot out from behind Spade, wrapping around the wrists of the Empyrean as it vaulted over Sparrow's falling body. Electricity danced down the conductors, frying the creature's limbs through to a burnt crisp. Spade unloaded the rest of his bullets into the demon. The pylon generated its barrier as the claws of the creature were severed with a small tug from the little Mage. The Empyrean couldn't retreat towards the gate, but darted into the night, leaving Spade and Mika to live. The little girl wasn't sure what to do as she looked on in horror at the dissipating limbs and Sparrow choking on his own blood. Her vision was blocked as Spade embraced her. Mika tried to push him away, knowing her mana stung anyone who touched her, but Spade wouldn't let her go. Taking out his pistol, a single shot was fired into Sparrow's head. The choking sounds stopped. Mika started sobbing quietly.

                                                    "Weak nerves on the battlefield attract the Grim Reaper," he told the little girl, getting down on one knee to speak to her directly. He tried not to dote on her, but he couldn't help it. Spade wiped the tears off her face, smearing them with the blood, dirt and sweat. "You're strong. You obeyed orders. We're both alive because of it. Now stay alert, the Empyrean is. . . " Spade's words drifted as Mika's vision blackened. With her mana drained and the trauma of Sparrow turning on her taking its mental toll, the little ten year could no longer stay conscious.

                                                    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
                                                    Unawares to Masaaki, a bit of static sparking across his shoulders. So quick, just a flicker and the static buzz was gone from view again. Masaaki's hair seeming to stand on end atop his head. Like when you rub a balloon all over someone's hair. Frozen where he was sitting, notes had slipped from his hands and dropped to the ground. Trembling, the boy seemed to zone out entirely, almost catatonic for a few minutes there. The creature from the file, the shadow, it was like a parasite. The description of the event with it, especially the way it seemed...like it had possessed or latched onto Sparrow. Like it had attached itself to the boy's shadow or body as a whole, just like a parasite clinging to the body of an animal like a flea on a dog or something.
      Eris gave two choices. Masaaki decided from there. The study of Empyreans was chosen for their group. A hand covered Keito's lips. He hid a smirk. Communications, ichors, cores and cocoons were topics piquing his own interests. Patiently, he listened to Kyrie go over the data. Drawings, photos, recordings, data sheets, graphs, hypothesis essays, medical history and so much more. The woman handed it all over to them. "Thank you, Dr. K," he bowed his head respectfully towards the scientist as she took her leave. The recent shoreline recordings were committed to his memory. There were questions Mika answered to fill in gaps and blind spots in the recording. It was the time he spent with her while separated from Masaaki . . . and he learned much from it.
      One mystery remained unspoken of. . . Why did Masaaki call out for Alpha during the battle? All the Mages knew the ghostly figure retaining the barrier around Hokkaido. However, Alpha appeared differently to them all. Some called the Mage a "she," while others a "him." Keito had never heard Alpha speak in his dreams. A chime sounded from their lips every time they spoke. While it wasn't words, he understood what the enigma was attempting to communicate. . . Much like an Empyrean's static.
      Eris turned to her own silent studying while Masaaki began to voice questions and speculations. "An Empyrean's mana signature only becomes identifiable when it uses energy," he explained, pulling out charts from Blood Hound readings. The data mimicked Masaaki's energy readings when exposed to Ichor. There were concerning thoughts in Keito's mind. Vessels had dormant mana. And, Empyreans were able to force their mana to lay dormant. Keito shook his head as Masaaki suggested the Empyreans needed time to adapt to the atmosphere.
      "I don't think so. The moment they appeared, they fought without hindrance as they do today," he explained, remembering the reports . . . and his own despicable interaction. "I believe its more along the lines of adapting to the ecological society and hierarchy rather than. . . " his voice was soft before drifting off as he pulled reports from the stack he hadn't seen before. The Empyreans were nightmares born from shadows. Demons from the darkness. The Empyrean at the shoreline was docile in comparison. Yet, it had a new sense of intelligence.
      Reading over the historic yet fresh material took Keito's attention for a time until he heard Masaaki's soft plea. Looking up from the files, he noticed the wide-eyed expression on the young man's face. White as sheet. He trembled. Papers fell to the floor. Keito's lithe hands started to stretch out to Ginma's slender shoulder. "Masaaki-" An almost unnoticeable static sparked from his frail shoulders, forcing Keito's hand to retreat as memories of attempting to touch Mika flooded his very existence. Breath was already drawn, so he couldn't gasp. Esophagus clenched his adam's apple. Muscled tensed, and. . . within a millisecond his mind steeled his heart.
      "Ginma!" Keito forced through the soul wrenching resemblance of Haruno's Spark to grasp the young man's shoulder and being him back to reality. "You. . . gave something to Kyrie?" he spoke off-beat, his tone was rather miscue as he referred to the doctor with her first name. Keito witnessed Masaaaki exchanging something with Kyrie earlier and fell back on the action. She noted it would be looked at soon, however... Ah! His thoughts were overloaded.
      Keito felt something was off within himself, and the flood of. . . "A-Ah! Please, excuse me, Dr. K," Keito stood up suddenly after gathering up the papers Masaaki had dropped. "The partner training on the obstacle course wore me out. . . With your permission, I will excuse myself." He wasn't asking for her permission. He merely spoke those three words to take this leave respectfully. And with that, Keito left with the files Masaaki had dropped along with others unspoken of. . .
Eris had been deep in thought with her own research coming up with a possible cause for the illusions and sounds that had been heard, the most logical conclusion to her was that perhaps a single entity was responsible; it was unknown if Empyran's had a similar social structure to humans or if they had developed once since gaining contact with them, or perhaps the way they ran things was unlike anything they'd ever seen, short of crossing the gate onto the empyrean side (which had it's own vast array of complications to consider) there no real way to know all they had was speculation and pricing together clues form what they have down when one of them crosses over to their side.
As she was straining to listen to the recordings she blinked at Maasaki's plea for her to stop before he let out a soft gasp and for a long moment, he seemed a million miles away "Maasaki-Ku-" She began to ask touching his shoulder when he seemed unresponsive only to jolt her hand back as sparks of static flared up from the skin of the other, it was a feeling she was all too familiar with; the same electricity that Mika used, the same type of mana as well.
Wait but...Massaski didn't have powers, just a lot of mana right? Was it simply excess Mana from being in contact with her or was this something far more intricately linked? She had never considered that perhaps having close contact with their partners could allow them to share abilities...but if this wasn't just a freak accident then maybe there was some merit in looking into it.
"Maasaki-Kun" her words were firmer now as she took a hold of his arm and gave him a gentle shake ignoring the static that made her skin flare up with goosebumps as she tried to get him to pay attention to her "Are you alright? Your hair... it's standing on end and you were giving off static moments ago" She said to him quietly as she glanced over to the scientist in the room with a slight frown; Kyrie had been doing her own thing and Keito had excused himself quite suddenly, so it was likely this whole thing hadn't been noticed at least not by Kyrie herself, she was sure the cameras in the lab might have picked up something of what happened, though that still gave them time a few hours at least to discuss this before they'd be questioned about what happened.
It was better than nothing.
Taking a seat beside Maasaki she still held onto his hand as if hoping it would keep his thoughts tethered here as she gave it a soft little squeeze of reassurance "What did you see?" She asked softly her voice low and quiet.
Scoffing, "I sure don't want to get caught alone in the halls around her..." shaking his head muttering. Watching as Spade sent Mika after Sayu. Eyes widening when he heard her speaking to Mika. 'Crybaby bomber,' and calling Masaaki a wuss, "Yikes...someone's in trouble. On the plus side this should be fun to watch. Mika's gonna wipe the floor with her. 10 bucks on Mika." Mostly making the bet as a joke since he doubted anyone would make any bets against Mika in this instance.
"Tch...rude...if someone was truly a wuss they would have quit the obstacle course before they began it." Commenting on Sayu's remark about Masaaki. Watching as Mika had in fact wiped the floor with the other girl. Flinching hearing that crack as the girl dropped like a ton of bricks. "Ooof, I could almost feel that myself and I'm not even the one she was wailing on." Just the resounding effect of Mika's attack. He'd gone through his own whallops during training himself, so he knew how badly the girl would feel once she was conscious.
Patting Cy's back, "Truth, same here. Mika's a badass, I know she's a tough one. I mean I think it'd be one hell of a fight but I'm glad myself that wasn't me nor you either." Giving applause where applause was due though. Clapping as Mika finished her spectacular K.O of a move. "Well done," speaking to Mika before he went back to Cyrus to continue their practicing.
"Alright so we're gonna try some sparring then." While they were waiting for Spade to direct them to their next assignment of the day's practice. After of course he was done trying to...erm...kill? Ikki. Obviously Kasai knew that wasn't the case but still damn, sending up a silent prayer for Ikki. Holding up his fists, once Cy was ready, Kasai told him to throw everything at him. Just to try and hit him, Kasai throwing in an instructional comment here and there about his posture and everything. Whilst dodging and blocking, panting lightly as they were getting into a good rhythm, a workout, Kasai dropped down and using his leg swiped out Cyrus' legs from under him. Grinning as he looked down at Cy when he landed with a whump on the practice mat. "Good start, but you gotta be ready for anything that your enemy might retaliate with."
Sitting for a minute with him on the practice mat, "We got a lot of practice time ahead of us. I got your back either way, on and off the field." Like on missions and also in general, Kasai was enjoying getting to know Cy more, since that run in in the alley way. So of course it was mixed feelings that he was here with UDA, training with them all. Kasai wanted to make sure nothing would happen to Cy out on the field. There weren't many people he was ever close with before he got transferred to this facility, so Kasai was determined not to lost anyone that'd become important to him again.
Once Spade started his barking again, Kasai rolling his eyes, stood and held his hand out to pull Cy up with him. "At least we had what...a minute to catch our breaths?" Chuckling a little, heading to grab his chosen weapon whilst seeing Sawamura headed off to the med bay. Mostly surprised that she could move, period. Bagh Nahk fitted into his hands. After lots of trials and testing, these had been made for Kasai since when he used his fire, he tended to burn or melt things of course. These could withstand his heat pretty well.
Bumping his elbow with Cy's as he walked by to go get a pistol to train with. "Good luck, you got this man," though from the things he'd chatted with Cy about, the recruit probably would have preferred a different weapon. At least the pistol was still under the category of a 'distance' weapon. Walking over to Mika, "Sparks," giving her a nod, adding, "well done before," wiping the floor with Sawamura. "Been a minute since I seen you in action." A good while ago, some years in a passing mission incident. Hearing Spade say 'self study,' "Hmm...not that it's not 'fun' in its own way to beat on the mannequin...but what do you say to a little 'live action' training?" Smirking, hinting at Mika and he fighting each other for training.
It seems to be for them to get stronger, to go through a new phase...but they seem strong enough from the get go when they come through the barrier if that's the case." The ones that did manage to get past. Chewing on his lower lip puzzled at that, listening to what Keito said about it, adapting to the ecological society and hierarchy. Eyebrow raised, "Huh..." His thoughts hadn't gone much further before he froze up. Those memories flashing in his head, the sound file Eris had been listening to, making things trigger about the Empyrean encounter.
                                                    tab tab 🎮 Jumping when he heard Keito. 'Ginma!?' Gasping, shaking his head disoriented, he'd just barely heard Keito's question before he scrambled off. "What I gave Kyrie?" Mumbling though his mind wasn't back quite coherently yet. Trembling a little, when Eris grabbed his arm giving him another little shake to bring his mind back to the present. "W-what?" What was that, what had happened? That whole scene, the images felt so vivid so real and clear. "H-huh...my...my hair?" What was she talking about? Hands coming up to smooth down his hair, it was definitely standing on end. Much like it would if someone had rubbed a balloon all over it.
That wasn't possible was it? He'd thought that had just been some freak effect from the Empyrean ichor that time. "H-how could I..." how could he have done that. Eris taking gentle hold of his hand, keeping his focus anchored since he'd been rattled and he obviously looked it. Looking over his shoulder and around at anyone else in the lab. Leaning in to whisper to Eris, "U-um...well I'm not sure...I mean it seemed so real, it was Mika when she was younger and Spade...there was an Empyrean encounter like the shoreline but..." Chewing his lower lip, nervously, they'd all died in the memory, with the exception of Spade and Mika. "No one else survived but Mika and Spade it was terrifying."
                                                    tab tab 🎮 Looking at Eris' hand, "I didn't hurt you did I?" Looking at the doorway where Keito had gone out from before. "Keito he...I hope I didn't shock him too badly? How could that even happen...I don't get it." How were the sparks manifesting. Masaaki supposed it was just lucky that he hadn't fried any of the machinery in the lab accidentally.
A windless gale. A still free fall. There were no words to explain the kinetic push Ikki created. Spade's body was pushed back by an invisible and intangible force. The kid took the opening. Hands freed Ikki's neck. Spade was knocked off. Rolling to his feet, he met the bewildered look on the punk's face with the barrel of a gun. Chiseled eyes looked down the sight. Safety remained on. Spade held for a moment before holstering. "Good enough," the Agent gave the Vessel very little praise and ended their short-lived skirmish. To his feet, Spade scanned the trainees for a reaction. No one noticed Ikki's magic usage yet. Hand on the boy's shoulder, he whispered "Keep your ability between yourself and Mika for now," he warned him, watching Haruno crack Sayu's back and ribs.
A sharp whistle pierced the air to gather everyone's attention. "That's enough. Sawamura, go to the medic bay. As for the rest of you, last on today's agenda is weapon introduction. We'll be moving to a new area, follow me," Spade shouted, reluctantly passing over the opportunity for one last cigarette before heading inside. Sling and tie back on, he brought the group to a large training area with a firing range and silicon dummies. "Vessels will be trained with a standard 9mm pistol. There will be no live rounds until you have successfully passed your firearm safety class, which will start tomorrow. Mages have been issued custom weaponry fitting to your placement on the field. Come forward as I call your name, Mage Hana," he went down the list, handing over the designated weapon for each trainee. The pistols contained no ammo, but came with an under arm holster.
"You will be responsible for the upkeep of this weapon. It will not leave the facility unless properly checked out by security. Mages, to the silicon dummies. Two to a mannequin. Hana and Haruno (etc). Self-study for the rest of the day," he ordered, leaving the Mages to themselves since they had all been trained with a standard pistol. "Vessels, to the firing range. Kabuto and Jaeger, first booth. Equip your holster and stand by," he began assigning booths until they were all full.
Eris's expression shifted slightly less concerned and more curious; she didn't want to worry the other too much but this was clearly a new development and he was doubtless going to be pelted with questions and roped into experiments with Mika about the effectiveness of their bond; she wasn't sure if this was unique to Mika and Maasaki or if someone like her and Ikki could develop abilities in the same way...perhaps it would only be a matter of time?
The smaller girl nodded patting the top of his head to flatten the unruly pink locks feeling the definite tingle of a familiar static touch her skin though this felt tingly rather than painful. At his question, she shook her head a little bit "I don't know how but I know the feeling of Mika's electricity very well" She said gently her expression a little more thoughtful as she continued "Mages were isolated before, so mages having partners especially ones we are close with is unknown territory in a lot of areas, no one yet understands everything that will happen when we develop bonds with other people, but I have a theory that perhaps somehow vessels might be able to tap into and use some of the mages powers with training and practice" She said slowly "What you demonstrated seems to prove it's a possibility at the very least" sshe concluded as she took a hold of Massaki's hands in hers seeing he was still shaking and reassuring him she was there to listen.
Masaki speaking about a mission Mika was on when she was much younger was a genuine surprise, there have of course been instances of both makes and Empyreans contacting mages and vessels by way of dreams or music but a vessel seeing into the memories of their mage? That was certainly a new development "I see...I can't say I know anything about it, but Mika is one of the strongest and best-trained Mages here, Spade valued her combat skills even when we were much younger, I know she went on missions but I know nothing of any of the details" She admitted gently before she pulled him into a gentle hug "I think you should ask Mika about it when you have time, she's the best person to confirm if what you saw was real...but if it is as you saw it, then it certainly has interesting implications for what mages and vessels are capable of" She said softly.
At his question of if he hurt her she shook her head "No, I'm fine" She said she wasn't about to tell Maasaki she'd experienced Mika's power almost in its entirety when they were younger. "I think he'll be okay it wasn't super strong or anything I think he was just surprised...as for how? Like I said I'm as lost as you, all I have are theories" She finished with a little shrug "Any way you are about to get bombarded with questions...so good luck" She whispered giving Maasaki's hands one last gentle squeeze and moving out of the way just in time as Kyrie made a beeline for him.
Kyrie was so proud of everyone! They were working hard and really getting into their subjects of study. Hanzaki came in. Kyrie knew there'd be victims heading to the lab once she left the field team's training in Spade's hands. She motioned the girl over to the medic bay while she finished up with the groups. She'd been watching over some of these Mages for the last ten years and they were really coming out of their shells and working with others. Even Keito! He always strayed from the crowd, but now he was- "LEAVING!? Keito-" Kyrie wanted to stop him, but his darn magic was too convenient! Kyrie crossed her arms with a pout. "Tired my a**, using your magic to leave. You ain't tired," she grumbled under her breath as she walked over to her desk. Hand in her pocket, she felt the flash drive Masaaki had given her. "Let's see what we have," she said, trying to bring the perk back to her mood. As she plugged in the drive and began clicking about, there was no need to force perk! She was completely in awe with what she saw on her screen. "Whaaaaaaaaa!?" she exclaimed, standing up so fast from her chair she kicked it to the ground.
Running out from behind her desk, she bee-lined it to the remaining two of her favorite group without a clue as to what was going on. Hands slammed on their desk right after Eris gave her warning. "Masaaki-kun!" Kyrie said, leaning over the desk with her luscious cleavage bouncing around at eye level. "Did you make the flash drive you handed me? You can do programming? Can you code it to our simulator? Come here, come here!" she insisted, grabbing the boy's arm to drag him over to her desk. Picking up her chair, she plopped him down in it. "This is the program for the hologram room. Is it something you're familiar with or something you'd be interested in working on? Making simulations from Empyrean footage so we can better train everyone? We'd start with what you already have and run it with the pairings who haven't seen an Empyrean. Then we can bring up past ones and test out training with Eris and Ikki, make it really hard- You could do different difficulties, right? Oh! Like a video game!" Kyrie was talking so fast, even faster than Ikki could. All the while her gigantic rack pressing up against his shoulder pointing to things on the screen.
Another victim from the field came gimping in shamefully with a complaint about her ribs. Sawamura! Now she had two bodies waiting in the medic bay. "Aaaaaaah, Eris~!" Kyrie fluttered over to the little girl with a smile on her face like she wanted something. "I have a great idea! Since your powers have been developing with healing abilities, I think you should learn more about treatment and medicine! What do you say? Head into the medic wing and treat these girls?" Kyrie's eyes sparkled, totally smitten with her new crew of teenagers! "I'll be in soon to make sure everything is okay," she reassured Eris, in case she was nervous or scared to be alone.
All he could do was nod in agreement at Kasai's words about Sayu, it was weird how she saw all of this as some sort of game; dont get him wrong he was all for having some fun pulling a few pranks and such to blow off steam but he never forgot the reason he was here and what this training is for, that was something he couldn't afford to lose sight of. They both grimaced as after Sayu provoking Mika she got the floor handed to her it was almost painful to watch because the girl who saw the fights and this entire thing as nothing but a game was easily outmatched by a Mage who had been trained as a fighter with lethal efficancy "Well can't say she didn't deserve it" He murmured softly with a sigh.
Getting back into training he was starting to get used to this as Kasai helped to adjust his stance and whatnot d Kasai weaved and dodged but it was the start, of course, he didn't see the leg sweep him off his feet as he landed on the mat with a grunt "Oof..noted," He said as he slowly sat up, the mat prevented any serious injury but he was doubtless going to have a few bruises by the end of this, some part of his body were starting to ache because he didn't use them for archery but it felt good to work up a sweat and start something new "Thanks man I appreciate it, I think have a long wat to go with close combat stuff" He said raising his fist to Kasai so they could bump them together.
"Finally!" Cyrus said hopping to his feet as Spoade ordered then to head to the shooting range "Might not be a bow and arrow but hopefully I'll fare better with a firearm than with my fists" He said as he stretches his arms over his head with a sigh "One minute of rest is better than none gotta take what were can get...we'll get him back by dying his hair pink" He promised the other with a grin a finger against his lips to ensure it was their little secret.
He waved the other off feeling a little lonely with the other heading off to spar with Mika but there was no point in overthinking things when he needed to focus, the weapon itself was a 9mm firearm it didn't seem too hard to assemble and fire, perhaps their ease of use was why they were chosen. Putting on the ear protectors and glasses he loaded a magazine into the firearm and prepped it for firing as he adjusted the weapon in his hands, looking down the sights and getting used to its weight while he waited for the others to join him.
Haruno would not turn her back to Sayu. Those electric eyes stared down with an intense hatred. The red head shook from the broken bones relaying pain to her nerves causing them to throb. As she faltered to sit up, Mika did nothing to aid her. Her glare was unchanging even as Sawamura cracked a smile. "Hmph," the Mage almost wished the girl would make a smart comment so she could knock her out. Arms folded, Mika's hues turned towards Spade and Ikki. Gun pointed at Kabuto, she watched as the Vessel stood in confusion. The look on his face was enough to explain the difference in experiences between a Mage who had known hardships their entire life and a Civilian living a peaceful lifestyle. If it were a Mage, Spade would've pulled the trigger, but he holstered the weapon instead. "Tch," Mika scoffed at the mercy Ikki was shown and walked over to her original training partner as Spade instructed the boy to keep his mouth shut. "Yeah, right... He'll blab to the first person he gets the chance to," the girl thought to herself as she stared at Ikki who was still blown away by the ordeal. "You're lucky he took it easy on you," she remarked, not offering any comfort to his trauma, but instead brushing it off like it was no big deal.
Following the Agent's instructions, Mika moved on to the next area by walking alongside Ikki and listening to his persistent yammering.
"Shut up," she'd growl back at him, his whispering consistently rising in volume. Even though he annoyed her, Ikki was successfully distracting her from the loneliness growing in her heart from Masaaki's absence.
Listening to the next part of their agenda from Spade, Mika parted ways with Ikki.
"Don't shoot yourself," she sighed grabbing the gear that had been brought in for her. The Mage had been trained with wires for the last few years. They were good conductors which amplified her magic. Their utility had been limited, so she was interested to see what they gave her next. "What is this?" she asked herself with a raised brow, holding up the small engine to be holstered on her back along with the wire cartridges meant to shoot from her waist. With a frown on her face, Mika wished to protest. She was a stealthy fighter who needed to be lightly equipped in order to be effective. Why would they give her heavier artillery? It was going to slow her down. Keeping her concerns and complaints to herself, the Mage started to equip herself.
"Sparks." Lifting her chin, she nodded back in Kasai's direction as he approached her. He had gotten taller since the last time they'd seen each other... much taller. His hair was longer as well and his voice was deeper, but he was easily recognizable. "That was nothing," she replied to his remark regarding Sawamura, continuing to fiddle with her gear. Each hand holding the wireless grips to control the engine around her back. They were fitted to her palms like a glove with several triggers in each hand along with a throttle. She could tell there was an attachment for a weapon above the triggers, but couldn't tell if it was for a gun or blade... The girl didn't look up from her equipment as Kasai made a proposition for some live action training. "I've never used this equipment before," she admitted her inexperience and handicap, but then cut her eyes over to him as she said, "So, we should be on an equal playing field." Those cocky words were simply her honest opinion, but it didn't change the fact they were condescending. "However," she looked over at the dummy, the gears in her head turning towards training for battle instead of mere action.
"I want this to be objective based,"she raised a finger to point at the silicon training equipment. "One will focus on trying to attack the dummy while the other defends it," Haruno proposed, her eyes very intense and serious about the training. The dummy was a sitting duck... much like their inexperienced partners would be on the battlefield. Gaze intense on the other Mage, she wondered if he'd see eye-to-eye with her or laugh it off like some kind of joke.
Eris had been wise to step aside when she had as Kyrie ran up to Massaki asking him a dozen questions mainly about the program he's made in the flash drive, she had no idea what exactly it had done but it clearly had been enough to impress the scientist, something about coding his program to the facilities simulator that was often used for combat tests and simulations of Emyperans they knew of to see how others would combat such threats or how they'd react under pressure.
Eris knew of such things but she had never actually participated in them before; she had always been afraid of hurting others and disliked fighting and conflict she couldn't even say that she disliked the Empyreans...just because they were aliens and were different didn't mean they didn't feel pain or had feelings right? Maybe they had a reason for coming here, maybe they were just as scared or as afraid as they were...but without being able to properly communicate it was hard to say what it was they wanted or why they had an interest in the mages.
If they were going to bring harm to the people she cared for them of course she'd do what she could to help...but fighting on the front lines had never been her forte, that had always been Mika's thing and she didn't think she'd be any good beside the electric mage anyway, Mika would likely ee her as getting in the way, and besides her body was weak if her barriers or her powers failed her she'd be defenceless and she knew it, that's why she preferred taking a rear and supportive role and with the emergence of her new healing abilities, it seemed her powers were agreeing with her, though it was hard to say if her abilities developed this way out of her desire to heal Ikki and Mika at the time or if it was engrained into her being...if it was the first one then Mages could endless ways to adapt and evolve.
She jumped a little as Kyrie addressed her as she came out of her own thoughts and looked up at the excitable scientist who suggested she know more about medicine and healing and she couldn't fault the suggestion; she was very, very reliant on her powers to get her by when encountering and empyrean so learning other skills would be a great help and while she had read a lot of things in books there was a big difference between reading about something and actually using that knowledge to patch someone up; in short, she had little to no experience so getting actual hands-on training would likely be a big help.
"Okay" She nodded after a moment feeling a little relieved the other would check on her, she didn't really know the two girls and the tangerine haired one Sayu, gave her a strange feeling, one she couldn't quite put her finger on but it was a sensation she didn't like. With a nod, the pale-haired mage left the main lab towards the med bay, Asako was pinching her nose and had a small ice pace on it trying to stem the bleeding and reduce the swelling; Sayu looked even worse off, she had bruises long her wrists and arms and was curled up nursing what at a guess were likely bruised or cracked ribs.
Eris didn't need to examine the tangerine haired girl to know this was likely Mika's work, the electric mage had always been brutally efficient after all and clearly the weird orange-haired girl had said or done something to get on Mika's bad side.
Leaving Sayu for now she gently approached Asako; she gave off a vibe similar to Eris, shy, nervous, and not good around strangers...it was almost like meeting a kindred spirit in a way "Let me take a look, I might be able to fix it for you" She said gently before examining the swollen area, it seemed as if it was a clean break nothing had started which was good so it probably wouldn't be too hard to fix but it would mean realigning her nose as it was currently crooked.
"This is going to hurt but please bear with me okay?" She said gently offering Asako a piece of leather to bite down on so she didn't end up grinding on her own teeth or boring her tongue "After three...one-" She didn't give the pinkette a chance to brace herself as she snapped the broken nose back into place the pinkette giving a muffled cry of pain "I'm sorry, but if I healed it as it was you'd likely have a crooked nose and you'd have to re-break it to get it fixed" Eris apologised gently "Now hold still this should be the least painful part" She said cupping both hands over her nose and began focusing her hearing on the girls nose speeding up the healing process so there three weeks it would normally take to heal, was done in only a few minutes.
"There...it should be all better,"Eris said with a weak smile as she took her hands away, the once broken, swollen and bloody nose now all better and without any discomfort or pain. "If you feel fine you should sign yourself out in the logbook before you go," She said pointing to the book which logged who came in and out of the med bay and for what afflictions; Eris knew how this place worked mainly because she'd been in here a lot.
Eris felt mostly okay despite healing a broken nose but it was a small break and nothing as serious as severe burns or being poisoned so she turned to Sayu "Excuse me...can I check on your ribs, please? I need to see if they're broken" She said gently s she shuffled on her feet feeling her nerves creeping up on her as she addressed the other; she was fine with Asako but this girl...she seemed...wrong somehow.
Sayu couldn't believe Mika had beaten her so easily. Even the few punches she got in were brushed off like nothing. She was both infuriated and enticed by the Mage's display of power. Mostly pissed off. "Whatever!" was the only thing Sayu could muster before doing as Spade commanded and escorting herself to the medical ward. Once in the main hallway, an agent offered their assitance. "Thanks..." Sayu grumbled, her face as red as her hair from the frustration boiling inside her. Once in the nurse's station, Sayu's green eyes became dark as she saw Asako. "Babying your broken nose? Get over it!" she pushed away the agent as she insulted the other girl, refusing anymore help. It was difficult to get to the cot, but Sayu made it regardless. "Not like you got paired up against a highly trained Mage who shocks you every time they lay a punch!" Sayu spat, literally spitting on the floor.
She wanted to put her head down, but her crown throbbed from Mika yanking her around. She couldn't sit straight because it hurt her ribs. She couldn't even lean to her right because her wrist had been done in too.
"This is so dumb! Kuff-kuff!" she cried pulling her hair free of its pony tail, but coughed at the motion which caused her even more pain. "Uuuhn," she groaned, rolling to her side with her back to the other girls. Sweat started to bead on her face as she tried to fight the pain. She didn't notice Asako leaving or Eris coming up to her until the other girl said something. Even then, Sayu tried to play tough. "They're not broken! Maybe cracked? Displaced?" she tried guessing, waving her hand carelessly in the air as she tried to roll over.
Sayu wasn't one to baby even herself. So, she made herself available! Suddenly she sprung to a sitting position. Everything that was injured throbbed with pain from the motion.
"AWESHIT!" she cried cupping her side with her good hand, beads of sweat rolling down her temple. "Okay, I might have a broken one. Fix me up quick, doc?" she asked with a bug's bunny accent. Her hands clapped together in a prayer as she winked one eye at Eris. Even though she was clearly in pain, Sayu still made light of the situation.
IKKI ALMOST PEED HIS PANTS. He'd never had a gun pointed at him before! Holy crap it was scary. But the boss said he was good enough. "W-wha...? WAIT! What do you think you're doing pulling a gun out on me for fun, boss? Don't do me like that," Ikki shouted at first, but dwindled out to a whimper as Spade came over to put a hand on his shoulder. The agent told him to keep his powers on the down low between him and Mika only. "Mika? But what about Eri-chan?" he asked, but his question was brushed off as the big man went off to move the group along. Mika came over to comment. "EASY!? Are you seroius- Woah! Whaddya do to her?" Ikki asked the scary mage as Sawamura struggled to walk off the field. "Shouldn't someone help her?" Ikki asked, worried the girl wouldn't even make it to the ward after Mika's mericless beating.
Ikki went with the group, looking over his shoulder to make sure the girl got inside. He wanted to believe Mika kicked her a** because she deserved it, but then again Masaaki's girlfirend had a short temper. Grabbing some hydration on the walk to the next area, Ikki stretched out his arms.
"Man! I'm doing pretty good with all these tests, huh Mika? I'm aimng to be a cool agent like Spade! I was thnking about my agent name and I wanna go with something cool like Heart or Club- Oh, wait! Masaaki would be Heart and I could be Club, then we got Spade and all we need is a Diamond, we could be known as the Deck of Cards! Sounds like a cool squad name, right?" Ikki babbled, swiping his nose with his thumb being pretty proud he thought up something clever like agent names.
"A GUN!?" Ikki's jaw dropped when Spade announced they'd all be training with a super deadly weapon like a gun. Here he thought they'd get some tazers or batons or riot gear or something, but a gun!? The boy swallowed hard as he walked over to the booth with a guy called Jaeger. "I'm not going to shoot myself, Mika!" Ikki hollered back as she walked away to go claim her specialty weapon and spar with some dude called Hana. Man, why would she even say something obvious like that? He wasn't a complete idiot.
Sulking slightly, he pouted all the way over to the booth where the guy he was paired up with already had ear protection on and was loading his magazine.
"Woah! Who is this guy?" Ikki stood up straight impressed the foreign guy was already handling the weapon. He slapped a charismatic smile on his face and raised his hand in greeting to the guy. "Yo, dude!" he said, waving his hand to get his attention so he'd take the ear protection off. "I'm Kabuto Ikki! Agent Club in training! My girlfriend is Eris, they call her Mage Psi. I've never been around a gun or anything before, got any tips?" he asked with his usual friendly atmosphere shining about him.
