It had happened over the winter months at Western Weyr. Esurienth had taken to the skies, and bronzes and browns alike had given chase to the beautiful queen. It was the brown dragon Phylideth who managed to outmaneuver them all, and seized his moment by capturing the queen. Stories varied, of course, of what exactly happened over the skies of Pern during the course of the flight--but one thing was sure: another clutch of eggs was due.

Winter turned to spring, and Esurienth finally made her way to the Hatching Sands. There, she laid a large and successful clutch, though it was clear she had buried more than a few eggs beneath the sands. Hatchings were an exciting time for any Weyr, and all the more for Western. As the days passed and the eggs hardened on the hot sands, the Weyr was all abuzz with speculation about who might Impress, and what colors were within the beautiful eggs. Would there be a gold? Would there be any whites? Who would find their lifemate and who would be left behind?

Finally, one spring afternoon, with the sun shining bright over Western Weyr, did the humming begin.

It was time.

Esurienth and Phylideth's clutch were ready to make their appearance!

How This Works

As this is an NPC Hatching, this is not going to be run like our PC ones. Essentially, we're just going to give out some adult dragon art to some pre-written Candidates!

That's right. If you have a Candidate who has been created and approved, you can post them in this thread and we will see who might Impress via raffle style giveaways. The art they get will be Adult Only--no stages. You can RP them as a hatchling, certainly, and they will have to wait a Turn to be fully graduated, but they won't be on growing lines.

Edit: Cheri and Uta decided to allow folks to write a new Candidate if they wish and have no one eligible, but still want to enter.

Additionally, these individual will have NO THEME. That's right--it doesn't matter what you think they look like, or what a colorist might have been inspired by when they were designed -- there is NO THEME. Please, avoid making a theme for them or searching for one as a name inspiration. Please keep these names generic, since we do plan on having more PC Clutches.-- and PC Hatching Dragons are the only dragons we'd like to have tied with official themes.

Additionally, we won't likely be running games or lessons for the NPC clutches. This doesn't mean we love them less, it's just that when we have time to run Weyrling Lessons, we'll likely focus on our PC Clutches. It's possible, though, that we might pull in these characters--but we also might not. Just comes down to time and what we can do. Just because staff might not run lessons doesn't mean they're not learning though, and everyone can still have PRPs revolved around lessons, or random ORPs. You can also look at the Weyrling Guide to get an idea of what the weyrlings might be learning. We've never run a NPC Hatching, but it's meant to simply be a different type of fun giveaway, and maybe get some new activity going for otherwise quiet Candidates.

Owners of the parents of the Clutch can certainly have RPs and dote upon their babies just like a normal clutch! In this instance, demon_pachabel won their own gold flight, but in future NPC Hatchings, we'll tap other goldriders and bronze/brown riders to parent the clutches. No RP necessary!

Additionally, players of the clutch babies can have PRPs and treat them like you would any weyrling! Clutch dragons WILL follow the strict weyrling schedule and ALL its limitations--so no thinking they aren't being kept in line!

Why Do This?
We wanted to give out some dragons, as well as give some Candidates who either we don't usually focus on during Hatchings a chance to shine. Maybe you created a Candidate but now aren't quite as inspired and want to see if Impressing them will give them a new lease on life. Or maybe you just want your Candidate paired so you can make some more or just want to breathe life into them! Or maybe you just want a way to get a new dragon!

We also know that there are a lot of golds out there. Not everyone can be active, so if this goes well, this could be an option for individuals with inactive golds to still have clutches. Sure, it's a little less pomp and circumstance than our PC Hatchings, but you know these little darlings (on big lines) will be no less loved.

Additionally, if we don't home them all, it means any clutch openings left over can be adopted any time. We won't need to wait until they're graduated. We can just keep them open so anyone with adult art can maybe get in on the group. We'll have adoption rules post-Hatching, and it will mean that you'll need to create a new character, but you can put to use some of the art you might already be sitting on.

Last but not least, we wanted to do this because it's fun. It's meant to be fun. There will be quite a bit of randomness in this event! You don't know how many dragons we have to give out, and you also don't know what color they'll walk away with!

What We'll Do

1. Enter your pre-written and approved Candidate or Standidate! In this case, we ask you only enter one, while we test this out. Unlike our PC Hatchings which require activity to Impress, in this case, it's OK to enter whether you RP or not. All you need is an approved Candidate!

Please note, if you bring over a High Reaches Candidate or Standidate, they will need to either participate in the Candidate Swap, or have some other reason to be there. Remember, anyone who is not from Western Weyr will have to stay at Western for at least 5 Turns post-graduation, minimum. (They would prefer you make it a permanent home but...)

Along with the Candidate, you will have to write the personality of the dragon and fill it out similar to other contests. As you have no say on color or sex of the dragon, make sure the personality can work for either male or female.

Alternatively, you may write a profile for a male dragon as well a female dragon but can only win one! We want the personality written out as part of the entry so the character can be (relatively) immediately written. While the dragon will need to go through approval/QC just to ensure you haven't broken any rules, it will streamline things.

Any personalities you write that aren't used can be saved for a different dragon you win or desire to write.

2. Once we've closed the event, staff will randomize the winners. We will also randomize the color dragon they win and match appropriately. You could walk away with any color, provided the profile is a match. i.e. a boy will not Impress a gold, and a woman will not Impress a bronze, etc. This in mind, you honestly could walk away with anything--so please don't enter if you'll be unhappy with the possible color!

3. Once we've handed out all the dragons, your new Candidates-turned-Riders can begin their new life! We'll then work on opening up any remaining clutch NPCs so folks can adopt them and work on profiles.

The Form

PLEASE NOTE: if you win a dragon you will need to get your profile re-approved! Not so much due to the Candidate portion, as it should already be approved, but for the dragon. We need to make sure they fit within shop boundaries.

Do NOT try to make dragon characters that are edgy or somehow super special. They are all Pern dragons, so keep them in the bounds and limits of the shop! Remember that they all have empathy and they should compliment your Candidate, or otherwise be a good match.

Additionally, please know that there might be a limit of dragons to give out, and a limit on colors. Don't assume anything, and above all else, don't be upset with what you get! This is meant to be fun--and just like any Impression, a person could bond with a dragon of almost any color.

In the case of white dragons, staff will let you know whether they are meant to be a male or female white. This is non-negotiable! Additionally, unless Cheri or Tsunake or Uta asks you to fill out more information in QC, or change what you post, we ask you not add more to it if you win! While we're not judging the contest, we also don't want you to make a dragon and then change him or her completely based on the art.

Write a dragon you think will be perfect for your Candidate. This could be a same-same supportive match, or one that's opposites. Just so long as they work out and you don't break shop canon, we should be good!

Physical Description: Tall Dark and Brooding, Bright blue eyes glare out from beneath long black hair that tends to flop over his face like a forelock.
Personality: Blessed with decent intellect he often uses it to great effect against others. There is little he feels he can not achieve, the crux lies in what is most worth going for, otherwise why burn wasted effort?
A very practical man he is sometimes a bit vexing to people who expect a little more understanding or empathy. Not that he doesn't have empathy he just prefers to use it for the stuff that really matters. He is motivated by a) food b) potential for advancement c) The ever elusive one.
Underneath all the dither and fuss he is quite a romantic man, proof that you can't judge a book by its standoffish cover.

Personality Larger than life in your face half way flown over the next rise. Theriarath is the beacon of the sky, the shape you see blaze past. Unless of course the big male is interested in you this of course means you should give up all your secrets before his might and awesomeness *wink*
He can easily attach to his favorite people, besides his rider, likely he will give proper attention to his rider's weyrmate, and any other frequent visitors.
Not a person who comes in that weyr is ever ignored. No sir the dragon will most definitely look you over.

Why Me: Well, life needed shaking up around here didnt it? Theriarath gave his partner the support of a dragon to make all of his dreams come true. Or at least to where they could both be happy. He is the partner that will never skip. A lot of what S'orn does for his dragon is focus all of that chaotic energy to where it would do the most good. His dragon also gives him a feeling of completness that means maybe just maybe everything would be okay if he didn't win it all.

Physical Description:
Tall, at 6’2, and of fairly solid build, Ce’rys may at first cut a striking and intimidating figure. He is muscular, and cares greatly for staying in shape. He has curly bark brown hair, hovering around his ears, and deep, verdant green eyes. His face is long, his jawline pronounced and shadowed with a hint of stubble. His nose is straight, though slightly mushroom shaped by its tip. Pale skin, he burns easily in the sun, and freckles splash his face and shoulders.

His stance tends to be a bit closed off, often with arms crossed or a frown on his face. Despite this general air of unapproachability, it is possible to summon a smile or even engage him in a hug, provided the right circumstance arises and you are his friend.

He dresses for practicality above all else, favouring well-crafted garments, especially boots. He likes tones of browns and greens for Gathers, and will try to match his dragon where possible. He enjoys working on his physique, and will make good use of spare time to stretch and train.

Personality:
With iron-clad will and a determination to see Western Weyr through to the end of the Pass, Cenarys was born to become a dragonrider (or so he firmly believed). Head-strong and determined, he would bear the weight of the world upon his shoulders without batting an eyelid, if he thought it would help. His frustrations and fears stem from feeling powerless and inept, so he strives for self-improvement and perfection.

He is a smart man, with a quick and agile mind. Though he might seem to lack empathy on the surface (what with that quasi- permanent frown stuck to his face), he is rather intuitive and insightful when it comes to people, traits he cultivated during his time as an apprentice healer. He cares very much- he just would rather not show it... emotion is a distraction from reason and logic, and victory can only be gained with a cool and level head. Mistakes are made when blood is pumping and hearts are racing, and to catch him flustered or demonstrably emotive is a rare thing indeed.

He has a love for rules and tradition that puts him rather at odds with Western’s more liberal political stance- not that he’d ever voice his opinions around figures of authority, for whom he has a lot of respect. He thinks highly of himself because he knows how hard he works to reach his peak. He has the unfortunate tendency to believe others don’t work as hard as he does, unless he sees an obvious effort on their part. His respect is earnt through such toil and dedication, and he holds in high regard those who struggle to climb to the top. Ambitious, yes, but not without consideration for his peers: Ce’rys wants to earn his accolades off his own merits without hurting others. He possesses a noble core and truly wants what is best for others, even at personal cost.

History:
Born to a brownrider Mindhealer mother by the name of Seyluna, and a dragonrider father, Cenarys has dragonrider blood in his veins and is very proud of his ancestry. As a weyrbrat he had a tendency to domineer and control others, and had to be taught to respect others as individuals. It was a difficult lesson for the young boy to learn, but he succeeded by shifting his focus from micromanaging others to working on his own sense of self. He wanted to be the strongest, most dependable dragonman Western had.

Until then, he had to pick a craft. He gave this decision, like most other things in his life, a great deal of attention. Ten Turns of age, he decided he would follow in his mother’s footsteps and become a healer- though not of the mind, no. He wanted to be surgical and precise.

They put him on bed assistance to teach him humility and manners.

It worked- to a degree. Cenarys learned to temper his opinions, learnt patience to mull over his thoughts and organise them into coherent points in which to convey a message that was undeniably logical and far better than any other argument anybody else could put forth. At around fifteen, he was allowed to assist the trauma healer stationed at Western, and shadowed them whenever possible. Cenarys developed a cool head in a crisis, and found himself unphased by most things (other than feelings, which he found especially confusing).

He started Standing at fourteen- as was his bloodright, of course. The first few hatchings came and went, and his hope did not waver… The fourth, the fifth… it was beginning to feel like a bit of a sorry deal. Surely someone as well recommended as him, as competent as him, deserved a dragon? The best dragon… He turned his scrutiny inwards, throwing himself into the task of chasing self-perfection to the detriment of personal relationships with the few people he called friends. Even his mother began to worry, drawing him aside for personal chats that he did his best to get out of.

Eighteen… nineteen Turns… Still nothing. He did his best not to contemplate a future without a dragon. There was still time. He was going to Impress. He had to. He trained harder than before, read and studied into the dark hours of the night…

Luck turned shortly after this twenty-fifth Turnday. The air did not feel different, he was not more or less optimistic or determined than his usual, and yet… he caught the twinkling eye of a darling dragon, who upon spying his rigid posture and iron facade, bounded up to him with all the energy of a newborn star. Rainbow eyes met his green, and he found himself wrapping his arms around the most magnificent creature to grace Pern.

MALE DRAGON
Name: Aizoroth

Personality:
First impressions are of a charming young dragon, full of sparkly wit and honeyed words. Aizoroth is a sociable creature who enjoys a good laugh and even better company. He flitters to and fro between one group and the next, never quite ready to settle into one circle. He is a dragon of many faces, capable of changing himself to fit any situation. Despite his restless, flighty tendencies, he seems very self-possessed and certain of his own individuality. He demonstrates competence in most tasks, and relies on this and his normal good humour to let people think all is well.

Gifted with a wonderful sense of humour and a love for banter, Aizoroth is both teasing and playful at times. He is conscious of the ability to wound with words, and will be the first to apologise if he senses distress or grievance, even if he doesn't exactly understand why his words offended. He is a placid and laidback dragon, and prefers to avoid confrontation when possible.

Beneath this warm, bubbly surface lies a gloomy heart. Aizoroth yearns to feel needed, to find a place where he truly belongs, and for all of his interactions he can never quite seem to find the right one. He can be withdrawn at times, filled with melancholy that he shares only with his rider. He will throw himself into love with enthusiasm, and yet heartbreak leaves cracks and scars with which he struggles to cope. In his early youth, his love will be puppy-like and innocent, but as he matures and is confronted with unrequited love, he will grow more jaded and cynical. Without his rider’s love to help him, Aizoroth might become arrogant, or even pompous, in an attempt to hide his own unhappiness.

His work ethic is one of persistence, and he will not shy away from a complex task even if it is taxing. Motivation does not come easily to him, however, and he will require a firm hand to get him started. Once on that path, or when a goal becomes visible to him, Aizoroth will chase it with his own particular brand of bull-headed energy. He is the type to see things through to the end, no matter what the consequence might be.

Aizoroth prefers to conceal his emotions, for he is afraid of appearing vulnerable to others. He fears not being loved, and as a consequence presents only that which he believes will engage others. Though he is willing and kind deep down, rare are those who experience his true sincerity and purity. He has a shadowy, almost underhanded nature when it comes to his interactions- a calculating approach that allows him to appear ‘better’ or ‘interesting’.

Physical Attributes: A sleek and long-limbed creature, Aizoroth moves with the grace of a dancer. An agile creature, he prides himself on his ability to turn on a dime and use showy, flashy moves to impress lovely ladies. Upon closer inspection, his tail and neck are disproportionately longer than the rest of his body.

Additional Notes: Long but thin flame, wooer of females but often unlucky in love, and will throw himself into doomed relationships. He fidgets a lot, and distracts himself by emulating other folks' hobbies and habits.

Why Me:
At first their bond may seem strange, but Aizoroth's effervescent ability to connect with others is something Ce'rys desperately needs but lacks. Aiz is easily liked and much beloved by his peers, and his relaxed temperament will serve Ce'rys well as he chases recognition amongst his superiors.

Ce'rys' own single-minded devotion will serve to spur Aizoroth out of his more melancholic moods. Where the dragon might falter and question himself, Ce'rys will always be there to remind him that he is worthy and needed, and that his strength is invaluable to the Weyr. Ce'rys offers place and purpose in an honest and forthright way, cutting through Aizoroth's fears.

Aizoroth's personal struggles in love may create situations for Ce'rys in which he must confront his own feelings. Together, the two will strengthen themselves and their bond as they come to terms with emotions and the role they play in day-to-day lives.

FEMALE DRAGON
Name: Astariarth

Personality:
A warm and sweet disposition illuminates this beautiful soul; Astariarth is a lovely dragon who means well in all that she says and does. She is shy and a little meek, especially when it comes to being around her louder, more boisterous clutchmates. She has an innate desire to heal others of their pain, and is intensely fascinated by the healercraft. She enjoys learning about herbs and natural remedies, even if draconic memory doesn't really allow her to recall what she learns.

She is friendly despite her timidity. There is not a bad bone in this sweet dragon's body. Empathic and inquisitive, Astariarth demonstrates a keen understanding of others and their needs, but sadly falls into the trap of wanting to 'make everyone better', even if it costs her all of her emotional reserves. She is easily manipulated into doing what others want- and has a desperate need to please them. Astariarth fears the sting of rejection, although she will satisfy herself with small morsels of love and validation from others. Life, after all, is about giving.

Her purity and altruism make her a truly wonderful companion to those who call her friend or lover. She has all the time in the world for those who have earnt her loyalty. Once burnt by cruel unkindness, she tends to retreat upon herself, crestfallen and brokenhearted at her own shortcomings. She relies heavily on the strength of others to fortify her own will and self-esteem. For all of her juvenile naivety, Astariarth possesses an old-soul style of wisdom that comes from a genuine love for life and patience for all the turbulence and darkness it throws her way. She will gladly console or assist, even when her own heart is breaking

Astariarth is a soft, romantic type in the truest sense of the term: she likes to visit beaches at night and stare up at the stars in the company of her latest crush or partner. She longs to find a weyrmate, and wishes for her rider to find a person he can settle down with as well (even, sometimes, going so far as to set him up on incidental blind dates). Name: Zegurath
Personality:
Make way, Zegurath is coming - and straight from the shell, they're not going out of their way to make friends. Frankly, they're not exactly trying to stack up enemies either, but bless this dragon's heart, they're going to have them. With a temperament that leans on the cool side, they have as little care about what cruel things could be thought about them as they do with how they phrase their thoughts or go about their day - they know where their worth lays.

Unfortunately, this sandpapery attitude comes with a keen sense of reading those around them, content to soak up things from the conversations they will absolutely not be invited to and holding onto that fuel until they know where to beat start the fire with it - under a tail fork or to perhaps clear the way to keep other proverbial fires from spreading.

Or to start one because they're simply having a day of it - Zegurath may not mind that their abrasive personality will get some bite in return, but things completely out of their control? It can be a flip of the coin. Water was too cold? Mad about it. Wherry they had for lunch after a fight was fantastic? Fight forgotten. But wait, someone stepped on their tail? Mad again! Their rider will need to be ready to temper Zegurath and then some.

Zegurath knows the value of a dragon who is where they need to be, over being particularly quick or strong - and would rather be predictably-reliable in every task, than a superstar.

Zegurath is also known to be particular. Not a perfectionist, but someone who would look at perfection….and pick at it. They'll pick at good-enoughs and so-closes until they fall apart. They will turn this in upon themselves to refine their self worth...but it is a potential internal spiral they could start themselves upon if not redirected from obsessing.

Additional Notes: Zegurath and flights won't mix well - their moodiness will be a cheesegrater on the brain for all contenders and it'll be no surprise if they are short lived experiences for them.

Romantically it may not be much better for them as they lack tenderness out the door and will trip over themselves should they find someone worth pursuing. True love may be a hard find.

Zegurath will have a tendency to want to eavesdrop if left unchecked.

Why Me:
Thaideem and Zegurath on the surface appear to be two peas in a pod - confident and abrasive. And really, if that were all there were, it would still have been the only choice for Zegurath. Thaideem's confidence and thick skin will counterbalance Zegurath's abrasiveness and withstand their nitpicking. Her sense of duty and place in the Weyr suit Zegurath's desire to be reliable, but also will help focus this dragon's moodiness on the bad days. Physical Description: Suvestyn is unassuming and unimposing. He would be easily overlooked in a crowd. It isn't that he's plain. He's quite good looking, really, but he doesn't make a show of it. His smiles arm warm, not exuberant. There is no flash or pomp to him, just a casual sense of comfort, from the artfully careless cut of thick auburn hair to the tickle of the close-cropped goatee that masks a narrow chin. Olive green eyes are expressive, but his gaze is never too direct. His clothing is loose and comfortable, dyed in colors that compliment him but never flash or stand out. He is never highly ornamented, wearing a simple braided leather choker as his only jewelry.

Personality: Suvestyn is a laid-back sort, who is only concerned when concerns present themselves as problems to be solved. Not the type to borrow troubles or go looking for them, neither is he the sort to invite himself into someone else's drama without an invitation. That said, if he *is* invited, he is all too happy to try to be the cooler head that prevails, pointing out another point of view that might not have been considered, that might help untangle any gnarly problems. He is not a gossip. Your secret is safe with him.

Which is not to say he's a pushover. He's a fairly good judge of character and has a keen eye for knowing when he's being manipulated and played for a fool. Try to trick him for your own reasons and you will quickly discover that the calm and collected man loses composure quickly. Cheat him at a game of cards and he'll laugh and slap your back. Cheat him when the stakes are higher and you'll find yourself with an enemy. Honesty is important to him. He knows the difference between a fib and a falsehood.

But if you really want to know the man, sit and let him play for you one one of the gitars he's crafted himself. Music is his love language and while he's happy to play a common tune or two in a public hall, those he shares his private compositions with are very few.

History: Suvestyn had lived all of his life at Whitecliff Weyrhold until Thread fell again. As such, he was used to a different sort of rider and pace of life than here at Western Weyr. If you asked him, he'd say he preferred the less chaotic life at home, but h's made his peace with the decision to answer the call for those of able body and mind to take their place on the Sands.

His time at Western has by no means been unpleasant. He was tapped and invited to come with his younger brother, who found his match at a Hatching almost the moment they'd been brought to stay. He has made good friends, built a close community and he'd no more turn his back on those he'd come to know here than he would swear to never go home again.

He does miss the grandparents who raised him and his brother, after their parents were lost to fever and a fall at opposite ends of the same Turn. Those are day he doesn't often speak about, but which figure in some of his most private songs. And thinking of songs, he misses being able to sit anywhere in the Weyrhold with a gitar and play and find himself surrounded by a dozen eager listeners at any time of the day or night. He can play here at Western. He does, now and again, but it isn't the same and it doesn't bring the same kind of comfort as it did at home.

Perhaps some of his occasional melancholy comes from realizing that as the Turns have moved on, he's gotten old enough that the prospect of a dragon choosing him seems farther and farther away. He may not have ever dreamed of claiming the skies on dragonback, but if the dream slips away from him, unrealized, how will he truly know who he might have been?

DRAGON

Name: Galaith

Personality Galaith was shelled for one reason and that was to be seen. Not the sort of dragon who is content to simply linger in the back and meekly accept what is handed down, Galaith has an opinion and that opinion will -- no, must -- be heard. Galaith is dependable and steadfast. They will never waver once a direction is chosen, no matter whether it proves to be the wrong one in the end. As long as no one risks harm, it is a viable solution and deserves equal and fair consideration. Don't agree? It's a shame that you're wrong. If overruled, outmatched or, more importantly, given a direct (if contradictory) order, rest assured that Galaith will do as told, but you will certainly feel the displeasure being forced to fall in line brings.

Galaith can be swayed by flattery, perhaps too easily. Praise Galaith's wisdom and you will have a friend. Sing of Galaith's shining hide and deft manuevers in flight and you may win their hearts. If you prove to be fickle, however, well. There are other dragons who can see the truth you chose to ignore. After all, the next Flight is not so far away and if you have not pinned them down, there are other dragons with much better taste out there.

Physical Attributes: Galaith's wings are slightly outsized for their body size. This means that they may not be as fast or as agile as their like-hided kin but they have just a little extra oomph when it comes to stamina.

Why Me: Suvestyn and Galaith balance one another, making up for shortcomings and boosting strengths they may not even have known they shared. Suvestyn may have had to wait a long time for Galaith to find him, but it will be perfectly clear from the moment of Impression that the time is finally right. Galaith will push Suvestyn in taking a more active role in Western Weyr life, and Suvestyn will in turn help to temper and soften some of Galaith's harder edges and impulses. Name: Rosinth
Personality Rosinth generally is a dragon who stays relatively unruffled by crass behavior or unexpected challenges. Certainly there might have been a more polite way of putting that insult, or it would be nicer if things weren’t going to between in a basket, but really, getting upset won’t help the matter. Sometimes that goes too far though. Rosinth can have a rather lackadaisical approach to life, taking their tolerance to new depths. Wouldn’t it just be easier to not make the effort?

That isn’t to say Rosinth isn’t without times of activity. They can be quite daring and spontaneous when the mood takes them. There is a fascinating world out there after all that could really use some exploring. Being somewhat lazy only means you have to grasp the moments of inspiration with gusto. Life is an adventure, but Rosinth would rather do it on their own schedule. Be ready to go or you’ll miss the moment. Too late and Rosinth will not want to go anymore. And it isn’t just activities that Rosinth is fickle about. Emotions, likes, dislikes, and preferences all are known to change at the drop of a hat.

Rosinth’s rider will have to be alert because the dragon is prone to manipulating those around them to ease their life. If you can get someone else to do the task, why not? It isn’t meant to be cruel or even thought of as manipulative by Rosinth, if the other really doesn’t want to do it, they don’t have to. But wouldn’t it be nice if they did? Perhaps Rosinth can persuade them they want to. Though if Rosinth actually knew they had hurt someone by doing this they would feel terrible. Rosinth likes to think of themselves as kind. And they are. Harsh words are rarely uttered and praise is easily given. They want the best for everyone. Can’t we all just get along and enjoy each other’s differences?

Name: Kiadrath
Personality A quiet sort of dragon, Kiadrath is the sort to keep to their own sort of company and does their best to not wear their hearts on their shoulders. They have feelings, of course -- but it's easier to push aside their own to help those who need help; be it their rider, dragons, or any others. However, not to say that they welcome being a doormat. Cross them, Kiadrath still grows angry. They'll forgive, no doubt. The Weyr doesn't run smoothly if there are grudges in the wings, after all. But hardly will they forget.

While Kiadrath puts actions to affect rather than pretty words or flowery phrases, they're extremely susceptible to those in distress or prone to high emotions -- leaving them quite open to being twisted about and used. Flights will be a concerted trial and error to not get whipped around by a partner's flowery phrases and wilting promises come morning. No, what stands firmest in their mind is others who show their mettle, not tell and brag about it like dragging around a dead carcass.

They have a mildly covetous eye -- they see things they like: pretty dragons, nice sunning spots, a spot up the chain of leadership in a wing, a particularly appealing meal on legs; yet Kiadrath is not the sort to bully their way into obtaining. Rather, they would rather use their wits to try and achieve their desires through meaningful ways. Maneuver and show their prowess to a potential partner in a flight, appeal to a dragon eyeing their meal of choice with an offer to catch a similar one for them in exchange, appeal to share a ledge if they might both fit. Kiadrath certainly doesn't mind playing the long game for what they desire, for the wait can be worth it in the end.

Physical Attributes: A colossal dragon, Kiadrath is a perfectly imperfect balance of their parents. Their wing span is massive and wide, enormous fans to help carry their bulky, heavy set frame. A more barrel carriage gives them bulk to their silhouette, easily lifted by well-toned wings. Thick legs help them carry stride well, as a shortened tail and thinner neck make them look elegant from afar -- only to see the solid stability up close. Their headknobs are longer than average, tapering to a sleek point; while Kiadrath's muzzle is shorter and blunt and can give them a more gruff appearance.
Additional Notes:
-Kiadrath's flame is sharp and quick. Quick bursts of flame are this dragon's specialty! While maintaining a longer stream will have been their bane all during flaming lessons.
-Flights are what Kiadrath lives for. Though poised on the ground, they give 110% once up in the air. Gold or Green, they will eagerly chase with gusto and hearts racing for competition -- though finding some company in the event they lose isn't out of the question. They will have a bit of a notion as a tail chaser as they seem to enjoy testing and trying; however, once they've found themself a mate, there could be no more of a loyal dragon than in Kiadrath. It will be the ladies that always catch their attention first, but there is always a chance that a male might catch a roving attention.
-There's a love in Kiadrath for water, however it's the stillness of small lakes that draw them in. The Weyrlake is nice, but on an off day, their hearts are alight at finding some quiet, untouched body of water to soak in the atmosphere.

Why Me: Keris, darling, from the moment you walked in, Kiadrath knew you were theirs -- they only had to reach you all the way up in the stands. From the moment your eyes met, no longer will the world feel quite so scary, no longer will you feel so alone. That directionless mire suddenly has a sharp compass in the form of Kiadrath, who will keep you on the straight and true. Yet there is love -- a love so deep that it drowns out the heartache of a heavy life. It fills in the cracks and voids that have worn down your heart with the strongest bond known to Pern. Such terrible past transgressions seem much farther away -- never forgotten, darling, but they no longer ache like such thorny vices. An approach to men won't be quite so abrasive, for they are units in the grand scheme of the Weyr. They must all work together, and an ease will come to Keris when dealing with men. They are here, now; Western Weyr is their home now, and there is a future of vast potential for both of them.

Keris and Kiadrath are two peas in a pod; for they are both the quiet watchers who wait for their opportunity to arise. A step forward is taken by both rider and dragon, for they are the strength of one another. Kiadrath's love is all-encompassing, yet never does Keris need to fret that covetous attitude at keeping her away from everything -- they are hers, just as she is theirs, and nothing could ever come between that.

Name: Exiloth
Personality Exiloth is an arrogant creature, that much was clear the moment they hatched from the shell. Confidence oozes from their every pore, and they can be considered fearless under the right circumstances. In the wrong ones, Exiloth could well come off as foolish--not that they'd ever say or believe such a thing. This dragon isn't the sort to be afraid of taking risks, or going against the rules, and it will be up to their rider to ensure that Exiloth's over-confident attitude doesn't get them into trouble.

Hedonistic, this dragon enjoys the fine things life has to bring. What's better than bathing, oiling, and eating? Exiloth will enjoy being spoiled as a hatchling, and such desires will only grow as they age. And why shouldn't they enjoy the pleasures life can bring? There's more to life than duty, after all. While this dragon knows how to work hard when they are called upon, during their downtime Exiloth will be found indulging themself to the fullest. Only the fattest, and tastiest of herdbeast or wherry will do when it comes to hunting; and you can bet Exiloth's stone wallow will be covered in the finest silks.

To those Exiloth is closest to, this dragon will be happy conversationalist, and an even better listener. While this dragon couldn't necessarily be called aloof, they are smart enough to know when it's best to listen and guide the conversation to something they want to hear. And there is a lot this dragon likes to know--not just for their own interest, but for their rider's as well! Knowledge is power, after all, and Exiloth does enjoy having the upper hand when able. This dragon does enjoy learning about all the things that make their clutchmates tick, and any secrets they might be harboring.

Of course, learning all this does take time. Thankfully, Exiloth can be a patient being. They are the sort of dragon with an endgame in mind, and know that seeds planted in the spring can reap a bountiful harvest later. There is very little this dragon does that doesn't have some angle for their benefit, the benefit of a close friend or loved one. Exiloth, while not the most generous of dragons, can reap rewards among those they are closest to--especially when Theirs encourages such things.

Size: Extra Large
Physical Attributes: Exiloth is large for their color. They are more muscle-bound with large bones, and a little more weight than some of their smaller clutchmates. They are not fat--though too much indulgence might plump them up a bit if Tylefisan isn't careful. Exiloth's wings are large, which allows this dragon greater stamina. Unfortunately, they aren't great at turning as quick on wing as compared to others of their colors, and are less dexterous overall. Their leg are a but stouter than some, but they make up for it with a longer tail and neck.
Additional Notes: Exiloth will adore flights, regardless if it's catching or chasing. If Exiloth can participate, count this dragon in. While it's not impossible for Exiloth to take on a more devoted stance, it would certainly require a very special dragon indeed.

Why Me: Like rider, like dragon, Tylefisan and Exiloth are a perfect match. At their heart, they are both social individuals, and will be found in almost constant conversation with one another. Where Tylefisan enjoys a bit of good-natured gossip and being well in the limelight, Exiloth will ensure the Harper always something new to share, and their confidence will only heighten Tyelfisan's own. They are both lovers of pleasure--Tylefisan will not hesitate to spoil Exiloth rotten, and Exiloth will make sure that Tylefisan need not ever feel alone or abandoned again. Though the Candidate might have grown up with a rough beginning, Exiloth will help bring purpose into his life.

Though they are similar in some ways, they also are different. Exiloth's calm and patient nature will help keep Tylefisan from doing something rash when he's at his worst. Physical Description:
Keerim is an eye-catching young woman with an athletic build that clearly shows the muscles of her previous profession. She stands at 5'10", with medium-length straw blonde hair she most often keeps tied up in a simple bun to keep out of the way. If it ever slips free, it’s an unkempt mess that seems to have a mind of its own, and she does what she can to rein it in to keep it from being a bother during work. She's got strong, sharp-edged features and a somewhat long face, with high arching eyebrows over keen golden eyes--there's a few small scars flecked across her face, and the rest of her as well, from various mishaps in her youth, but she hasn't sustained any more significant damage yet. She always has some shade of a smile on her face, and she has something of a natural glow to her that only brightens when she's in the company of others.

Personality:
She's an outgoing, highly personable person who often decides that she's friends with someone before she even knows them. Keerim won't be so easily deterred by negativity or bristly personalities, and will go out of her way to make sure that everyone's getting the same amount of positive reinforcement and attention, as they very well deserve. They work better together as a group if they all get along with each other, or at the very least have the capacity to work together in the first place, and that takes time, effort, and somebody who isn't going to take an insult as an answer; Keerim fits that bill almost perfectly. She's practically a human ray of sunshine, and she's fiercely intent on keeping everything running as smoothly as possible. She'll intervene in fights or disagreements without being asked, which--needless to say, hasn't quite produced the results she'd like all the time. Still, her optimism insists that it's only a minor setback! She can work around it, or otherwise forge forward. Nothing's going to stop her if she keeps her nose to the grindstone!
Keerim keeps her dreams high, sometimes way out of reach, and isn't easily dissuaded from them. The fact that she's as persistent as a guard wher isn't always a good thing, considering the fact that she can sometimes latch on to a glitzy idea without knowing when to let it go--any failures along the way are still just brief problems, little things to be handled before she carries on her way to the scintillating future. Or at least--what she hopes is a bright future. Her cheerfulness seems to know no bounds, but she's not immune to faltering every now and again. She'll just beat herself up for it a bit before she gets back up.

Even though she tries to imply otherwise, Keerim does, in fact, have her limits. Although she does her best to project the image of a constantly-upbeat hardworking girl who doesn't consider anything at all to be a serious roadblock, she's just as capable of being knocked off-guard as anyone else, not to mention affected by more negative emotions--when things get to her, they get to her hard. She's naive, and wants to believe the best in everyone and everything; when reality proves otherwise, she takes it very personally, and while she'll quickly pick the pieces back up and resume acting as though nothing had ever happened, she's prone to nurse emotional damage for a while. She doubts herself far more than she lets on, and is constantly second-guessing her choices; she lived according to her family's rules for her entire life, and having to think for herself is a scary prospect that she isn't always convinced she can handle. What terrifies her the most is the notion that this whole dragonrider thing was just a massive mistake, and something truly terrible is going to happen to put her back in her place.

History:
Keerim comes from a long line of farmers from High Reaches Hold, secure in their work and comfortable in their manner of living after so long of carrying on the family tradition. They were a respectable sort, honest and hardworking, and...bland. It wasn't that they were patently uninteresting, or exceptionally plain and simple, but they were content with what they did and where they were, which afforded little variation in their lives. Keerim, however, wasn't quite so convinced this life was for her--how could she know when she'd never done anything besides farm, after all? She'd already questioned plenty in her short life, deciding rather early on that who her family had initially thought she was wasn't truly her, and she saw little reason why she shouldn't take a bit of time to really think about what she wanted to do. She loved working on the farm, genuinely, but what if there was something better out there for her? Her family's strict rules didn't let her question it too much, at least--not out loud, but she still wondered from time to time, dreaming about what things would be like somewhere else.
The opportunity came when she was 17. A Searchrider making his rounds had gotten a gentle nudge from his Green, and he'd breezed by the family farm on her suggestion, just in time to catch Keerim and her father returning from a produce delivery to the Hold proper. Keerim was absolutely over the moon at the idea of being Searched, but her family...was far less enthusiastic. Even with the return of Thread making dragonriders needed again, they weren't particularly fond of them; after so many turns of seeing the weyr's population as a drain on their resources and crops, they had little love for them, and the thought of their daughter traipsing off to join their number was one they couldn’t stand. Besides, Keerim was needed for the harvest--they would have to have every one of them around for that, and would she really leave her family on a whim to go off and try something like dragonriding?

Doubt gripped her. This was the chance she'd dreamed of so earnestly, dangling right here in front of her--and were it not for her family's displeasure at the idea, she wouldn't have hesitated in the slightest. Was it a crime to want to be something else? To--live differently for once, even just for a little while? That's all she wanted, truly--just a taste of the world, and then she'd be back home before the harvest. She'd return as soon as she'd been to one Hatching, as she kept on telling herself. She didn't think she'd Impress in a million years, but being able to experience that was worth it all the same. Besides, there was no harm in seeing what life was like somewhere else, especially somewhere like the Weyr; Pern needed farmers, of course, but it needed its dragonriders, too, and Keerim couldn't help but be curious about how they lived. She'd come back to the farm! Her family might consider it a betrayal, but she had to know what was out there.
For the first time, Keerim willingly left her family, promising them over and over that it wasn't permanent. It wasn’t supposed to be--it was only a short trip, something to finally quell the desire burning in her heart.

She never did come back, though. One candidate exchange with Western saw fit to end that.

Keerim had never thought her life could change so suddenly--or at all, really. She'd been content with the thought of being a farmer like the rest of her family, but now she had an entirely different future stretching out before her, one that would take her straight to the skies. More than that, she wouldn’t do it alone--Zeuliath would be by her side every step of the way, and the enormity of their bond was far more than Keerim could have ever imagined.

Other: Keerim is excellent with plants, and loves working with her hands. In her spare time, she's been known to whittle all kinds of little trinkets, which she most often winds up giving out as gifts.


DRAGON
Name: Zeuliath
Personality Zeuliath’s personality would suit even the most bombastic Bronze. They’re larger than life in just about every way imaginable despite their small frame, and they’re a constant energetic presence who seems much wiser than a dragon so young ought to be. They strive to be the most at all times, a high-energy dynamo who won’t let anything stand in their way--they can be overly forceful without meaning to, however, and have trouble both with accepting things they cannot change and remembering the boundaries of others. Zeuliath is by no means malicious, though--they simply get carried away with their grandiose ideas, and often forget to consider the effects of their actions in the moment due to fixating on how things could be.
They’re very idealistic, albeit in a more sweeping sense than Keerim herself is--while their rider tends to dream about much smaller things, Zeuliath is always waxing romantic over the way the world could be if we only did this instead. They want to leave their mark on Pern in the best way possible, and they spend a lot of their free time contemplating both their own image and the way they could achieve that goal.
Zeuliath can be egotistical, haughty, and even self-absorbed, but at the end of the day, their hearts are in the right place, and they’re driven just as much by their desire to better those around them as they are their dreams of glory. They can’t stand leaving others in the dust when they could lift them up, and are a fierce champion for the downtrodden, using every bit of their eloquence, charm, and outright forceful nature if necessary to ensure that everyone stays on a safe, level playing field. Inequality is something they well and truly cannot stomach, and the quickest way to earn their ire is to reduce others based on traits they cannot control. Colorists and traditionalists can go to a few very specific places, in their most honest opinion, and they won’t hesitate to fight these beliefs where they find them. In Zeuliath’s view of the world, there is absolutely no place for such reductive ideas, and they will not abide their propagation.
Size: Small / Extra Small.
Physical Attributes: Sleek and lithe, Zeuliath cuts an elegant figure in spite of their very compact frame. They have a long, almost serpentine neck, and their slender build gives them something of an ethereal presence--that is, until they start talking. Their biggest weak point is that one of their headknobs is just a touch crooked, sticking out a bit more at a near-imperceptible angle compared to the other; Zeuliath knows, however, and bemoans this fact on the regular.
Additional Notes: Zeuliath has a bit of a complex about how small they are, and takes mention of their size very, very personally.

Why Me: Dear dreaming Keerim, finally taking control of her own destiny and chasing after her heart’s desire for once--although she may have intended it to be nothing more than one brief blaze of glory (or rather just a temporary adventure, in her own words), Zeuliath could not abide such a thing. In her, they saw a kindred spirit, although one that had been dampened for far too long by her family’s restrictions and the rigid framework within which she’d built her life. They wanted to set her free, but more than that, they wanted to take her under their (respectably-sized, thank you) wings to guide her to the pinnacle she deserves. They knew she could be someone great, and letting her return to her family in defeat only to be subsumed by farming for the rest of her life would be an unthinkable tragedy in their mind.
Zeuliath loves Keerim's optimism and enthusiasm, and her softer nature lends itself well to tempering their more...forceful aspects, particularly when dealing with others. They know they can rely on her cheer and unwavering patience to help balance them when they get too caught up in the heat of their own actions. Her determination is a bolstering force to them when they're at their weakest, and in return, they strive to support her through her own doubts. With Zeuliath at her side, Keerim can be totally sure that she doesn't have to stand on her own, and together, they can tackle anything Pern or the Red Star could possibly throw at them.

Physical Description: A very tall woman with broader shoulders and an athletic build. She has dark skin and thick, dark hair that comes to the middle of her back. Her eyes are brown and upturned in shape, and she’s quick to smile.

Personality: At first glance, Haseya seems to be a calm and welcoming individual. She sees no reason not to treat everyone with kindness until they give her a reason not to. With a mothering nature at heart, those who seem lost or in need of assistance might find themselves metaphorically scooped up to be fussed over. Haseya likes to take care of everyone if she can, and is often the peacemaker in groups. Unfortunately, Haseya also tends to be an overprotective over people she cares about. She’d spare them all the suffering in the world, if she was able to, even though that suffering might enable them to learn and grow as a person. She just wants to be able to keep people happy and safe, unrealistic as that sometimes is.

Though a warm and genuine person, Haseya has struggles with finding affection for herself. In the past, she would have happily sacrificed herself if that meant protecting someone else, especially since it would mean she wouldn’t have to live and deal with the agony of the loss. Time and the love of those around her has tempered this, and though Haseya still struggles with bad days, she knows she has things worth living for in her life. Unfortunately, Haseya always prefers to be the comforting shoulder for people and would rather hide her problems behind a smile rather than talk about them. It irrationally feels selfish to her to burden other people with her worries and problems, and she has the tendency to bottle things up until she’s nearly drowning in them.

Never a person to rush into things, Haseya is generally a level-headed and rational person in most situations. She considers her options before leaping into things, and does not allow her heart to rule her unless it involves the people she cares deeply for. She is also not a woman to boast of her accomplishments and will rarely take credit for her actions. Though the first to praise others, she does not do the same for herself, and doesn’t believe she needs recognition if she does something worthwhile. The action itself is reward enough.

History: Born in a middling size Hold on the Western continent, Haseya grew up in a loving family with two younger siblings. Ever since she was young, she had a vested interest in helping others, and sought to apprentice as a Healer once she was old enough. She left with her parents’ blessing, and though she wrote to them frequently, she worked hard to apply herself to her lessons. She walked the tables once she was 20 Turns, and was extremely eager to start aiding people however she could.

Haseya was stationed at a larger Hold than the one she’d grown up in, and quickly adapted to her new life. She met a man named Yiska, and he courted her steadily for several Turns. They became romantically involved, and around her 25th Turn, Haseya realized she was pregnant. Yiska was delighted, and the two began to speak of marriage. All seemed perfect and good up until the day that Thread returned.

It was a nightmare.

Thread ravaged the Hold without prejudice, and if there hadn’t been dragonriders living there, Haseya likely would have died that day. The dragonriders gathered up whomever they could and took them Between to some place safer. In this case, it happened to be Western Weyr. Though Haseya and Yiska were safe, the journey Between caused her to lose her child. Haseya was devastated and sank into a deep depression. Though Yiska did his best to try and support her, she pushed him away. They ended on bitter terms, and he decided to leave and try to make something of his life. Her family was spared from Thread’s destruction, and made sure to keep in touch with her either via letter, or coming to visit her when they could manage it.

Haseya remained at the Weyr for nearly two Turns, coming to terms with her grief and doing what she could to lend her aid to the dragonriders risking their lives to protect them. Eventually, once Haseya slowly began to crawl her way out of the worst of her depression, she was informed that a Searchdragon had found her eligible to Stand, and now that her mental health was better, she would be allowed to become a Candidate if she wished.

She thought long and hard about her options before agreeing. She stood on the sands for a Turn before her Ahigath hatched, and then her life changed entirely for the better.

DRAGON
Name: Ahigath
Personality There seems to be a permanent sort of smugness to Ahigath, a confidence and self-worth that can’t be shaken. Some might say that this dragon is too clever by half, and they do NOT use their powers for good. Mischief, thy name is Ahigath, and no one is safe once this dragon gets going. Life is too short to be stuck-up and fussy, so Ahigath won’t hesitate to verbally n** at others just to see if they can’t rile them up. Nothing delights them more than a good prank, especially if their target reacts spectacularly! Those with more volatile reactions will be personal favorites for Ahigath, but it will be up to their rider to ensure that they don’t take things too far. Ahigath has difficulty realizing when enough is enough, and can accidentally hurt feelings without meaning to.

Despite their penchant for seeing just how far they can take things, Ahigath is absolutely a laid back creature. This dragon rarely, if ever, gets riled up, and attempts to belittle them will be met with utter amusement and a returned quip of their own. They’ll happily welcome a verbal spar, but if things get physical? No thanks, they’re out. Unfortunately, this relaxed attitude also means that warnings and critique rollright off of their hide. One more strike and they’re in huge trouble? Meh. That’s future Ahigath’s problem.

Despite their devil-may-care attitude, Ahigath is hardly a bad dragon. They consider themselves to be on good terms with everyone, and though they’d never admit it, they like to keep an idle eye on their clutchsibs in particular to make certain everything is going all right with them. This dragon isn’t one to fuss and coddle over people, but if they can find a way to anonymously fix a problem for someone, they’ll most likely do it. Just don’t tell anyone. They don’t need people thinking they’re some sort of nice guy, all right?

In fact, Ahigath sometimes struggles to really be nice, verbally. It’s much easier for them to tease or give someone the rough side of their tongue rather than pay a genuine compliment. But those who Ahigath is close to will know it… in their own way. Sure, this dragon may not come out and say it, but they’ll be very physically affectionate. Draping wings over others, cuddles during nap time… Yes, this dragon’s friends might still get quipped at, but it’s all in good fun, right?

Threadfall is the one occasion that will really fire this dragon up. They are a brave and eager fighter who will not hesitate to take a risk for someone else, even if that means they might be injured in the process. Just don’t make too much of a big deal about it later!

Clever, Laid Back, Confident

Egg Size: Medium
Adult Size: Small, Medium, Large (no preference between these three, will decide later unless Cheruta does!)
Physical Attributes: Built a bit lower to the ground than most, Ahigath is a lean and wiry dragon. Their tail is longer than average, but their shorter limbs have them take after their father… which is to say, they aren’t the most graceful on the ground.
Additional Notes: Whether or not they participate in Flights all depends on their mood, or if the dragon in question catches their eye somehow. Sometimes they’re all for it, and other times… meh. They’ll just watch from their ledge. Their flame is of medium length and nothing particularly special. Ahigath adores napping in the sun and can be seen frequently snoozing as they grow older.

Why Me: Haseya is a woman who’s gone through a lot in her life, and she needed someone like Ahigath to keep her from getting too stuck in her own head. Ahigath will never be fooled by the smiles Haseya wears to pretend that everything’s alright, and will be her one and true companion that she can share everything with without fear that others might find out. Though not an openly sweet dragon to others, Haseya is this dragon’s one exception, and they will physically dote on her with nuzzles and croons.

Haseya will be the one to keep Ahigath in line whenever their spirited dragon tries to take things too far. She will be able to temper the worst of Ahigath’s teasing so they don’t go too far, and her rational nature will have her firmly put her foot down whenever her dragon acts like consequences don’t matter to them.

While Ahigath will be able to coax Haseya into letting herself have some fun (because THEY know she deserves it, thank you!), Haseya can undoubtedly help Ahigath express themselves a bit more kindly. Though they have very different personalities, there’s no question that this pair was made for one another.
