Zosime wondered how long it had been. Time had simply blurred the years together for her. Since her herd had failed, the mare had wandered aimlessly and without a purpose. Simply surviving and existing in a dull state. She never stayed in one place for long. Sometimes she was chased away, other times she moved on on her own. In short, she'd fallen into a rut.
The dark mare had found a small pond by which she'd chosen to rest briefly. The sky drizzled dismal rain that quite suited her mood. Zosime lay under some trees that didn't really do much to block the rain. Her head feathers were wet and slicked back, her wings rested limply against her flanks.
Kalril perched on a branch and watched his partner. It saddened him to see her like this and there had been times he'd tried to perk her up. Sometimes it had worked for awhile and other times it hadn't. He still stuck with her and wasn't going to give up on her.
He hopped a little closer. "Don't look so blue. It's not a good color on you. The rain will pass eventually Zosime."
She looked up at him. Her usual fierce expression dull. "What does it matter if it passes or not, when there is no purpose?" Zosime looked back out over the pond. She'd been young and stupid all those years ago. Yet still she longed for a herd.
