Beloved.

It was a little before dinner when Anakumath’s voice broke through the stiff walls Martirae had kept about herself to keep from interruption while she was working - as though such walls hadn’t secret passages that were meant specifically for the gold. Martirae leaned into that mental touch. Do you need something? Elzebuth had been good to make sure food made its way to the gold standing guard over her clutch and bathing had been off the schedule when she’d been set against leaving the eggs for more than a handful of minutes. So while there wasn’t much that Martirae could actually supply her at this stage, she offered it none the less.

Come. she beckoned with more urgency than was usual, which in turn put a little more pep into the woman’s step as she all but dropped the records she’d been pouring over and went half-jogging down the Weyr’s hallways. A first herald for those who were waiting.

Waiting, like Anakumath. She had been enamored and fascinated by every movement of her little eggs - praising each effort and spurring them forth in their growth with all of the support she could give them. They’d been growing far more active since the last time the candidates had come to visit. One egg, in particular, seemed particularly raring to go and everything told her she couldn’t delay.

Elzebuth, if the brown had not spent nearly every free minute by both her and the eggs, he’d have been summoned before Martirae rather than nuzzled and leaned into while she watched on. Call yours - it is time. She couldn’t place how she knew this spur of activity was different than the others, but she trusted her gut.

So as she leaned out to nuzzle each egg, responding to their wiggles and shakes that no longer told her to turn them in the sand, a low hum spread through her chest. It grew louder as she touched each of her children’s shells for what would be the last time. Next time she gave them such love and affection she would be able to feel the warmth of their bodies and look into their eyes. You will find the world a wondrous place by Yours’ side, my little loves. I will always be proud of you, I will always love you - so go forth without fear. Her patience strained at its bounds now, both excited to greet each of her children as they finally faced the world and burdened by a bittersweetness of having them from her side.

With the evening beckoning, Elzebuth debated leaving Anakumath’s side briefly to satiate his own hunger, loathe as he was to part from her and the eggs. Their hatchlings had grown so strong inside, shifting, wiggling, testing the strength of the shells that kept them safe. When she spoke his name, however, he swore his hearts stilled briefly with anticipation. He didn’t hesitate to reach for G’ran even as a hum began to resonate deeply in his broad chest. Mine. His words were bursting with pride. They are ready. Come. Amused at G’ran’s startled burst of emotion, he again turned his attention to the eggs.

His hunger forgotten, he gently touched his nose to each and every shell. From this day forth, the world is yours. Do not be afraid. You and Yours will reach the stars, if you so choose. He sent them all the love he could muster before he reluctantly drew back. Today, his children would be welcomed and celebrated. The brown leaned quietly against Anakumath, feeling oddly wistful. There was no doubt in his mind that his children would do great things and that the Weyr would be lucky to have them.

Though their care would be entrusted to their chosen bondmates, Elzebuth and their mother would always be there for them, should they need it. Some would undoubtedly be just as independent as he had been. Others might welcome a bit of doting from their parents. He would continue to love them all dearly, even as they left the sands to go onto bigger and greater things.

Welcome to the Kiddybean Mystery Hatching

General Hatching Information

Welcome to High Reaches Weyr's PC Hatching! We want to thank everyone for participating in this shop and giving it so much life! We wouldn't be here without you, so thank you for sticking around. That said, we do want to go over some general rules (IC and OOC) and reminders so this Hatching can be a success!

General Information & Rules
  • Not every Candidate or Player is going to Impress. Please, please, please don't get too discouraged or upset if that is the case. We only have a limited number of pets to give away, and honestly tried to find the best fit for each dragon. There will be other Hatchings, I promise. gaia_star Many, many, many other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if Staff impresses a dragon. We try not to take away from the players fun, but staff are also players, too. Any dragons that might go to staff were either customed-in behind the scenes or chosen simply because their Candidate was the best fit. As stated above, there will be other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if your Candidate does not Impress to your preferred color. Just like in Pern, nobody could ever guess whether or not a Candidate Impressed, much less a certain color. This is supposed to be fun, not some sort of tragedy. If you don't like the dragon that we fit to your Candidate you absolutely cannot rehome it or give it away. Additionally, if you throw a fit about it and we find out, or you discourage other players, this could bar you from future Hatchings. We honestly tried very hard to match Candidates with characters so the fit mad sense.

  • Don't discourage others or vent at them if they Impress (or don't Impress) a dragon or certain color. If we hear about players giving other players crap for their Impression, we can bar you from future Hatchings. There will be other characters, other Hatchings, and other opportunities for all! Please keep this fun and support one another, not tear folks apart.

  • We really, really, really, really loved all of your Candidates! No really, Cheri and I hemmed and hawed for weeks. In some cases, Candidates may not have Impressed because we have ideas for particular colors or personalities for them. If you do not Impress, we are aware, and we have big ideas for the future. Please give us a chance and be patient.

  • Why Didn't I Impress!? Remember, activity is a big driver when we're matching dragon personality. If you have dragons from past-Hatchings that are sititng dusty and unused, I would start by actually trying to RP them if you wish to be considered in future Hatchings! The amount of work we pour into these characters means we're less inclined to match your character if we don't think it's going to get RPed. That said, we like to share the love--but if there's a baby that might fit multiple Candidates, if you aren't known to RP Hatching dragons, there's less a shot we'll choose you.

  • IC Action = IC Consequence. If you role-play in the Hatching and your Candidate does something stupid, remember that ICly there could be hell to pay. If a dragon doesn't maul you, then the Weyrlingmaster could very well pull you from the Sands. Please don't make us do that. Also, the Seconds and assistants are also here to watch, and to report back on behavior--so even if we miss it while running the hatching, it doesn't mean they won't be in troulble afterward. Additionally, regardless of whether or not you signed your character up for death or maiming or not, if you do something stupid ICly, the shop has a right to respond accordingly, and that includes death. Please, don't put us in that position.

If someone sees a Candiate or character doing something questionable or breaking the rules, please let Cheri or Uta know! This way if it doe warrant an IC response, we can get to it, or have staff talk to the person about the behavior.

Staff might be tapped in to help monitor or at least help Cheri and Uta keep an eye on things.

  • We will hatch all the PC eggs and play the hatchlings until they Impress. Once they Impress, they will be the players to control. We will quote folks in the Hatching Sands, but also PM them the dragonets profile. Please note, that we have done away with one-dragon-per-person rule. At this point, we're going by whatever personalities match best--so don't be surprised if someone gets multiple. Please note that just because you did not Impress does not mean we don't like your character--we just might have something else in mind, or might reward you with more later.

  • The Hatching Thread will likely peter off after the last egg Impresses. We may not close it officially so folks can RP in the thread as needed. Also, please, once you Impress, continue to RP in the Hatching Thread! It gets kind of sad and unfortunate when, at the end of Hatchings, only a few stragglers are RPing in it. :c We would love to have everyone feel included, including those who don't Impress or who are posting on the Sands actively.

  • New Rule: We would absolutely love it if folks REFRAINED from immediately plotting their baby dragonets until ALL THE EGGS ARE HATCHED. We don't want people who Impress near the end to miss out on plots or bonding with others. There will be plenty of time for plots after the Hatching has ended! It's okay to RP with folks, or talk about your bbs, but just... try not to immediately line them up with plot ideas or story ideas well before the last egg has hatched.

  • Everybody is encouraged to participate! Bring your weyrfolk and holdfolk to watch by having them sit in the Sands and cheer. Candidates, whether they were at the Touching or not, should be on the Sands an will be assumed to have arrived regardless if you have time to post them. Dragons can perch on ledges to watch the newest babies, and comment to one another. Guests and visitors will be flown in -- from mighty Holders to the families of those hold- and craftbred Candidates. Come one, come all -- even the lower cavern workers, while some might have volunteered to help behind the scenes for extra pay, are also encouraged to watch if they wish. It's up to you! This is a time for celebration.

  • Cocktail Weyrlings CANNOT attend. They are too young yet and must stay behind. NPC babies are juuuuuust barely old enough to attend, and will be allowed to make the supervised jump to High Reaches, provided that they are on their best behavior. Wingleaders were invited to represent Western, but they must have at least one Wingsecond at the Weyr in case of emergencies. Or vice-versa. Not all Wings were allowed to go... We'll just pretend it was some of the NPC Flights that were asked to stay jusssst in case. Western can't quit functioning just because High Reaches is bustling with activity!

  • Given that the Hatching is taking place before High Reaches' dinnertime, there will be a Hatching Feast, and it's already well on the way to being prepared. Headwoman Padmia will ensure that High Reaches is more than capable of serving everyone in attendance. Although the Western Candidates likely haven't had as fancy fare in awhile they certainly have not gone hungry. This will just be a good opportunity to enjoy some foods that have been scarce for some time. Candidates may take the opportunity to console themselves, the newest weyrlings to mingle and introduce themselves to one another, and all the Weyr and its visitors to rejoice. This will open after the Hatching thread closes/ends.

  • For Western Weyr non-riders, any Lower Cavern workers and such can likely attend the Hatching either as a guest -- if it was their restday -- or as hired-help. Since High Reaches will be feeding two Weyrs, plus guests, and housed their Candidates for a week or so, Western only thinks its fair to offer to help bring food, chefs, and worker to aid in setup and post-Hatching clean up! They need to be on their best behavior, though.

IC Rules & General Information
  • Candidates can get mauled, so they have been told time and time again to stay out of the dragonets way! If they art attacked, they are to try to cover their head and protect their vulnerable bits, but should not really fight back. That might upset it further.

  • Guests and visitors CANNOT enter the Sands. Those who arrive late will be ushered to seats closest to the entrance, or asked to stand at the entrance itself, or just wait outside. Any person who is not a Candidate that tries to get on the Sands will be removed, unless (of course) a dragon is attempting to get to you.

  • Unaffiliated riders, non-HR folks, and crafters not living at Western ARE NOT allowed unless they actually have a reason to be there. This includes being an invited guest (usually Journeyman or Masters of renown that have something to offer the Weyr), of prominent family lines (they do love their Holders), happen to be dating someone who lives at the Weyr and are their guest, or you happen to be going because an immediate family member is on the Sands as a Candidate. That's it. Most of Pern never, ever, gets to see a Hatching so they are meant to be special when folks do go. They're not open for just anyone to come into willy-nilly.

  • Do not break into eggs! Period. If an egg needs to be broken into, the shop will make it VERY clear.

  • Candidates are asked to arrive on the Sands with a thin pair of sandals-- no boots or heavy soled shoes! The Sands are hot, so standing from foot-to-foot is common.

  • Candidates will be brought to the Hatching Sands by the Candidatemaster. Should they Impress, they will take their dragons outside of the Hatching Sands entrance, where assistant Weyrlingmaster Z'von and his fellow assistants will have prepared meat to feed them, and have buckets of oil and brushes to scrub them once fed. Baby dragons tend to eat a lot, and tend to itch a lot as their skin dries. The new weyrlings belongings will be moved from the Candidate Barracks to the Weyrling Barracks by drudges and lower cavern's workers as needed.

  • Visitors and guests are invited to stay for the Hatching feast and riders will bring them home when finished.

  • Please remember that the guests of the Weyr are honored guests, and HR and Western dragons both are expected to make them feel welcome. Holders are practically the Weyr's patrons, and High Reaches will not tolerate a repeat of what occurred at Western. Eveleth would shut that down so fast that a single peep would not be heard. There will be no repeat occurrences. If you materially damage the Weyr's ties, on your head be it. There will be consequences. They will not be minor.

Any other questions? PM Uta or Mr Cheri! With that, welcome to the Hatching!!

By the time Anakumath had gotten word to Sinrunth, Candidatemaster F'dral was already well ready, and with his typical speech. Standing outside the barracks, he surveyed the Candidates - some of whom were already spilling out of those very barracks. "Clean up. Look presentable. Get in those robes and get outside--These eggs won't wait!" Not, of course, that any of them needed the encouragement.

Sinrunth stood outside the Barracks, eyes whirling a mix of red-blue. The red was simply to keep the excited ones in line--but the blue whirling through was beginning to overhwelm the color. He would make sure the Candidates didn't run to the Sands without being lead.

For as many Candidates as there were crammed in the Barracks, it amazed F'dral at how quickly they could gather. Once the last of them was herded out into the Bowl, he lead them--some of them for the last time--to the entrance of the Hatching Sands. "Good luck. Remember your training, and don't be afraid." It was perhaps the gentlest thing he'd ever said to them. "Welcoming thoughts. Calming thoughts." And with that, he gave the signal for them to move forward.

They would all enter together as Candidates--but only a lucky few would walk out as riders.

Haveli

It was time. Haveli heard the thrumming coming from the dragons long before the proper announcement was given, and she was heading back to get changed when her firelizard popped overhead to lend her voice. The little green hummed along happily before being dismissed, firelizards not allowed on the Sands after all, an Haveli wished Spite well. They'd meet again when this was over.

Having finished getting dressed and joining the others, Haveli was ushered out onto the sands in the massive group before finding her spot. The parent dragons were given their bows, as were the riders, and she settled in.

This wasn't her last chance by any means, and she kept her head up. The dragons would be coming soon and she was going to be the absolute best for them.

Kinyegele - She/Her
Kinye had been preparing for dinner with the same distraction that many of her fellow candidates had held for the past few sevendays - her mind elsewhere on the eggs that still rested upon the sands under their mother's care. No humming had come yet, no sign that it was time. But when the Touching had come and gone, that impatient eagerness had only amped up even more. She wanted to meet them all.

Oh, how she wanted it to be time.

So at first, the humming that slowly passed from dragon to dragon through the Weyr was almost dismissed as the hallucination of a hopeful heart. Of all the hopeful hearts in the Weyr. But then a candidate went skittering off towards the barracks...then another - Kinye was hardly the first one leading the charge to get changed and to follow the instructions that would inevitably follow. She even made sure she had both of her sandals this time (just in case a certain egg demanded them as tribute again), pulled her hair back into a sloppy braid and tossed it back over her shoulder.

It was time.

Kinye could see the hope on all of the faces around her and while she was hopeful for herself, she couldn't help but wonder for her fellows as well. There would never be enough eggs, but she wanted everybody to leave changed for the future in a good way. With a dragon. But she selfishly also hoped that if she had to pick that it could at least be her. She tucked that thought away in a quiet place, however, and moved to take her place amongst the others who would be waiting. She wasn't the only one wishing selfish things, of course, but she wanted to offer up better, brighter thoughts to all of the eggs before them.

Cautiously, she cast a glance around looking for Lusialu to hopefully keep her friend's company for this hatching once again. And hopefully, amongst all her selfish hopes, they could leave together with a new lifemate in tow.

Uta
Looking for Lusialu!

----

Kahbrohm - He/Him

Kahbrohm smacked Jihiro in the shoulder almost immediately when the humming began. He didn't look about like a doe eyed confused whelp who wasn't sure of their ears. It was dragon humming - and with eggs on the sands that meant one thing. "Let's go," he stated firmly. He'd be one of the first to be on the move to the barracks to change.

He'd walk with all the pride and dignity befitting of a future dragonrider, as he did every time, onto those hatching sands when they were allowed. Shoulders squared and his ego seemed to absolutely shine from him as he looked over the eggs, his eyes resting upon the blue one that rested near the front fondly. That was a baby who knew a thing or two, now didn't it?

Of course, he wouldn't get his hopes up that it would even give him a second glance. He'd learned that lesson with flesh and blood. But he'd send his first excited regards as everybody settled in to await that first egg to crack, smiling to himself.

"Any you got your eyes on?" he asked to Jihiro, knowing that it meant nothing...but nerves were nerves and even Kah's drove him to talk a little.

Tsunake

-----
Draza - She/Her

Draza swore loudly as someone bumped aggressively past her towards the barracks when the humming had begun - and she'd been tempted to swat them for it. But she passed up on that thought soon enough when she realized that she also needed to be on the move to change - she wasn't even in the barracks yet by the time she'd shamelessly unbuttoned her blouse and all but tossed it onto her bedroll once inside to make things go a little faster.

Nobody was looking to get an eyeful of anybody when baby dragons were a-hatchin', not even Draza, and the robes were flyin' onto every body like a flock of wherries that had found something meaty and dead to chew upon along a beach somewhere. She'd only keep her head about her to catch Melka on her way out. "Are you excited?" she asked, excitement clear in her own voice as they fell into the rest of the crawl heading out onto the sands to stand and wait.

She'd not particularly worry about the 'where' of standing. After all, down here on the sands was always better than up in the stands - and even more now that the movin' and shakin' had begun.

Uta
Sister grab!

-----

Cetra - She/Her

Cetra certainly would have considered herself one of the first bodies to get moving - mostly because the alternative meant potential trampling for someone her size, but also because the prospect of the eggs hatching tonight was.....life-changing. It would be for many of them, at least. Not all, but she wouldn't not entertain the idea it could have been her.

Her, and hopefully not him. Cetra huffed as she brushed the man from her mind (he spent far too much time in there for her liking), focusing instead on making sure the robe she put on settled in a way that didn't rest too short or too long on her (the latter, really) before she joined the excited crowd that were maintaining what patience they could in getting to the sands to stand and wait with the rest.

Now that there were people joining the stands, things felt awfully big. Bigger than when they'd been touching the eggs. Perhaps it was because people were now looking. There were real stakes now. Cetra steeled her heart with confidence and found a place to settle amongst her fellow candidates. It would be a good night. She'd see it so.

----

Lihyo - She/Her

Lihyo steeled herself, one task at a time - to the Barracks. Robe on. Sandals on. Follow the rest. Pick a place on the sands. It was all very methodical, but she was happy to have the rules to follow. The order. She'd never had much excitement flurry in her chest before she'd been searched, and she wondered how unreliable she'd have been if she'd been left to her own devices while it tried to send her heart fluttering to and fro - all over Pern at the rate it felt like it was going.

But the here and now is where it needed to be - kind thoughts, patience, be good. It was a short enough list that Lihyo could follow it to the letter, her mind wrapping around the instructions like a desperate lifeline as she felt like she'd melt into the sands if she didn't have it ground her.

And perhaps all bets would be off once the first egg hatched.

-----

Midrymear - He/Him

Midrymear would perhaps seek out his sister once the candidates were guided out onto the sands. It was a familiar enough task and he both felt the honor of being allowed to stand before eggs and the lack of fanfare of knowing that to those who stood above, watching them, didn't know who was special and who was not. Everybody who left the sands that day with a new lifemate would be the special ones this time.

He wanted to be one.

But he'd not push his hopeful will out, instead trying to wrap his mind into hopeful calmness. That was what all candidates had been instructed time and time again to do. Midrymear was more than capable of that - and in this case, he'd not pretend he could do it better than it had always been done.

It was time. They were coming.

-----
Juhvek - He/Him

Juhvek had not been bothered by the egg that had told him it was no honor to be the last lingering impression of an egg the man may ever feel. He'd simply moved on and touched other eggs to allow them that honor instead. In fact, he hardly thought about any egg on the sands with a lingering hopefulness. Surely, none of them thought of him that way either.

No, he didn't seem like a man going out to stand for what was perhaps his very last time. He didn't treat it like a death sentence and he frankly was prepared for whatever waited on the other side. It would be up to F'dral to decide if he got to wait out a final year or if perhaps he'd be better off to spend his time in the lower caverns. Either suited him. Just as the robe he'd worn a dozen times before. Just as he'd walked out to the sands more than that.

Life would come today and many lives would change. Life for the rest would go on - it was what it was, and he was in no desperate state to beg it to pull this way or that way. All would be well in the end. It would be how it was.

He was calm, and he would wait.

----

Beelim - He/Him

Beelim had so been looking forward to dinner too. Not that he wasn't similarly excited for the eggs that were about to hatch, but his thoughts listlessly pulled between the meal he'd been about to have and the potential future that the sands were pulling every candidate of High Reaches towards. Of course, the humming had also meant there would be a Feast to be had - which soon enough had him focusing on the eggs alone.

Because the promise of a better meal was very appealing - almost as appealing as the potential to leave the sands that day as a Dragonrider, rather than a candidate. To be like his brothers were. It had felt like an inevitable thing in his family until he'd stood for so long. Not that it was an impatient process, but....

Was it because he was always thinking about food? No, no. That would have been silly. He rubbed the side of his neck as he found a place to stand amongst the others, forcing thoughts of delicious bounties to come from his mind to find better thoughts a baby dragon would perhaps find more appealing now. Yes. This was better. It was a good day.

It was certainly time.

Chakuri - She/Her

For half a second, Chakuri thought she was hearing things. No, nope, she absolutely wasn't--that was humming. Peridot trilled with excitement in her ear before springing off her shoulder, and Chakuri hastened to get ready. She quickly washed her face and donned her white robe and sandals, her eyes wide with excitement.

How perfect! The babies would hatch right at dinner time, and then the Feast would be right afterwards! And some of them would be riders... She had to pat her own cheeks a bit firmly to calm down, stepping out of the barracks. From then, it was simply a matter of hanging onto F'dral's every word before walking back onto the Sands....

Dehka - He/Him

The Touching had only ratcheted his excitement up a few notches, but Dehka wouldn't dare let it get the best of him. Of course he would be happy and delighted to see the babies, but staying calm was equally important as thinking welcoming thoughts! He quickly dressed and attempted to do something with his hair before he took a deep breath.

Maybe today would be the day. And if it wasn't, then he would be happy for whomever received the privilege of Impressing today.

Hunthyex - He/Him

The sudden frantic energy rippling through the Weyr was all Hunthyex needed to quicken his pace. What was expected of them had been drilled into their minds over and over again, and Hunthyex certainly wasn't about to show up looking flustered and unprepared. He did his best to thread his way through the throng of other boys in the barracks, and if he had to use an elbow here and there, well, the chaos was too great to single him out.

After looking himself and his attire over critically, he stepped up out and waited for F'dral to speak. Ah, but he was anything but afraid! His chest tightened with anticipation, but he kept himself steady.

Liniyah - She/Her

Eggs? Now? Despite her experience with Standing, it always seemed to take Liniyah by surprise when the eggs were finally ready to hatch. So they had decided on early evening.... Liniyah thought that was lovely. It wasn't quite dark yet, though the sun would begin to set before too long, and the warmth of the Hatching Sands would keep away the worst of the chill from the wind.

She offered little smiles to those who seemed nervous, waiting patiently until F'dral led them to the clutch.

Oranie - She/Her

Oranie felt a thrill of excitement flutter in her chest, instinctively reaching out for Ellibrie's hand even as she looked around for Juhvek too. Maybe they would get lucky today? Maybe they'd find that perfect partner meant for them... She gave her sister's hand a squeeze, flashing her a smile that hopefully hid all of her nerves. "Good luck," She whispered. "I've got a good feeling."

Hopefully, unlike her other decisions in life, it would lead to a good outcome this time, too.

Meepfur

demon_pachabel

Miomellai - She/Her

Her heart pounded in her chest like it had the first few times her father took her out on a job, and she did her best to hone it into cold, keen-eyed focus. This was it. This was potentially the biggest day of her entire life, and she was not about to let nerves get the better of her. Miomellai dressed and stood attentively until F'dral arrived, her back straight and her head held high.

She sidled closer to Midrymear once she found him, though didn't bother to give her brother more than a glance. No doubt that he thought he'd be Impressing the biggest bronze out there today. Well. They'd see.

demon_pachabel

Jihiro - He/Him

"Whaaaaat? But it's almost dinner time!" Jihiro's 'complaint' was hard to take seriously when he was scrambling after Kahbrohm just as quickly, grinning ear-to-ear. Who cared about eating when there were hatching dragons? He dressed himself as quickly as he could, not... particularly caring about neatness as he did so. This was going to be great. Better than great.

As for the eggs... "Geez, I don't know." He admitted. "Yeah, a few." He'd gesture to the Orange Slice egg, in particular. He just got a good feeling from it! But it was the dragons who knew best, so far be it from him to act like he had a clue.

Elibrie - she/her

It was time, oh, it was time! In spite of what she'd told herself in preparation for the Touching, she had indeed gotten her hopes up once again. Every egg she'd had the honor of touching had been wonderful, and there was one in particular, the last she'd touched, that had really stayed with her. She knew, of course, that that meant little to nothing - she'd had positive interactions with eggs before, and not been chosen. They'd simply been kind eggs who'd seen fit to give her comfort or advice.

But maybe, just maybe, this time...

Though she'd been quite hungry and looking forward to dinner, that was forgotten the moment the humming began. Luckily, she'd already gotten herself cleaned up in preparation for dinner, so all Elibrie had to do was change into her robes and head for the Sands, searching out Oranie and Juhvek along the way.

"I...I do, too," she agreed with her sister, almost hesitant to admit to the hope.

Nisadee - she/her

Right, time to go, and at a decent hour, at that. Nisadee was ready in no time at all, and bustled along with the group to the entrance of the Hatching Sands. Her thoughts were put in order just as quickly as she'd gotten herself physically ready, calm and easy and welcoming, albeit with an undercurrent of anticipation of excitement. After all, who didn't get at least a little bit excited when Hatching time came? Anyone who didn't might well want to re-evaluate their life choices.

Relku - he/him

Alright, here they went again. Relku tamed the rush of adrenaline that came with the call to get robed up and to the Sands as he prepared himself to meet Anakumath and Elzebuth's children. Well, he may or may not actually be meeting any of them, depending on how friendly they were (or weren't), but he would at least be there and ready to greet them. Good, calm, loving thoughts.

Not desperate, 'please choose me' thoughts. Those were tucked away, deep down where they belonged, so as to not put pressure on or irk the young dragons.

Akaris and Green Samodith

Ah, it was time at last. With no hesitation at all, Samodith left her ledge with nothing more than a a few brief words and a boop for Andelath, sailing over to land on what she deemed to be a prime perch for this momentous occasion. She wrapped both Anakumath and Elzebuth both in her love, affection, and excitement, with a more quiet brush of the same for their children, whom she had had the priviledge of sitting with from time to time. And when the Westerners began to arrive, there was a rush of the usual adoration for Zinath, Junenth, and Theirs - though this time, she did not move to sit herself beside her bronze father-figure. There was delight aplenty, and the mental equivalent of a warm cuddle, with promises of actual boops and cuddles later, but tonight she had...other aspirations.

The bright green kept her eye open for a certain other Westerner, and when she spotted her, crooned and sent to Kleoth warm welcome and invitation, settling herself and sweeping out a wing to indicate that the place beside her was, indeed, quite open. Dearest Kleoth, would you care to sit with me? I've secured a most excellent view of the proceedings, though I understand if you've prior engagements.

Akaris, unlike her dragon, wasn't torn between different agendas for what conpany she wanted to keep. She would, as ever, make her way to greet R'mor with a hug as soon as possible, and hope to sit near if not with him, depending on the seating arrangements that had been made for honored guests. They took priority, of course, and she could always catch him (and A'ral of course) at the Feast for a more proper reunion after.

And if R'lyr came in tow or sat with his own family, either of course would do splendidly! Hatchings, for Akaris at least, had become very much about family. The babies were nice, but...she had other priorities.

((Akaris is cool to chill in the background with implied interactions, just setting her down to be with fam! No need to tax muses.))

Finnisa - HR - She/Her
Time was strange, really. It passed and stood still, somehow all at the same time. Hadn't they just been touching the eggs, gently feeling the shells that were not fully hard yet, wondering and wishing and waiting? It felt like it had barely been a day or two, when weeks had passed, and now here they were again, hearts hammering a rhythm to the hum of dragons. Finnisa got dressed and tugged on the sandals, wrinkling her nose at how cold her toes were going to be along the walk to the sands... but once they were there, it'd be too warm soon enough. May as well enjoy it while she could. As she joined the throng spilling onto the sands and bowing to the parents, she swallowed down the soft 'please' that wanted to slip out. She still had time to meet her dragon... but it had been a hard turn, all in all. For many of them. She had no greater claim to hope than any of the rest of them, did she? No matter what, it would be alright. Spotting a familiar face, one that had gone through similar things to her of late, she angled towards Haveli and took a spot at the other girl's side. "What do you think? Ready for it?" She murmured, eyes scanning the wiggling eggs. Which would be first? Which would be last? Which, if any, would be... hers?

Zelaya - HR - She/Her/They/Them
Once a certain length of time swept by, from flight to clutching to touching and on, it was a fairly safe bet to guess at the week, or ten days, where the humming would begin. Life was a funny thing, and not quite ever so exact, but there was a safe range to consider, and so when one early evening the call went out, Zelaya was not at all surprised. Right on time, or close enough, she mutely noted. With quick but deft motions she dressed to fit the rest, and calling Skybroom to her, gave the softly-crooning brown lizard several gentle strokes. "Go and sit with father, okay? Be good, and out of his way. I will see you when it's done," she breathed into the little lizard's neck, and then sent it away with a light kiss on his head, to join the clouds of them wheeling about in hatching joy. Then it was onto the sands, bowing, and to a spot in easy sight of the eggs. She was taller than she'd once been when she first had done this, she realized—no longer needing to press to the front just to be sure she was seen. She still was nothing like the towering height of many of the Weyr's older girls and boys, but it was a solid mark of the pass of time, the inexorable march onwards. Today there would be those who had never done this before who were chosen, most likely. And those who had run out of time left behind. All that mattered, in her mind, in the end, was that the dragons had their choice, and Pern would continue to be preserved. That mattered more than any of their individual destinies or desires, she was resolved to note within herself.
Mr Cheri
Just to note that Zelaya sent her brown firelizard to sit with/near Z'tir. He's well-behaved, just like Zelaya, so wouldn't make a scene.

Niika - She/Her

She'd been lucky enough to stand as a guest at all of High Reaches Hatchings ever since she'd left the Weyr to try and pursue a proper craft - rather than sulking about the lower caverns feeling sorry for herself. While the bronzerider who had retrieved her was polite enough in waving her off, it was someone else who was obviously getting busy to welcome new riders that she stopped by to see first.

"A'zota," Niika spoke softly, hands tucked behind her back as to not intrude upon the greenrider's preparations. "I wanted to say hello before I went to find a good seat." she said, though really she was far more excited to see him than she was to go watch baby dragons hatch. She wasn't sure if her heart felt any better about it now with some time apart than it had before and...she wanted to put that off for a time.

Candidate Nalacko - she/her

Nalacko was feeding her two firelizards before she went to fill her own belly. She scowled at Vine who tried to snag a piece meant for Triangle. "That's not yours Vine! Behave. You know you always get enough." She was about to offer another piece, when the two firelizards stopped and lifted their heads to listen a moment. Nala glanced around before she heard the pair of greens start to hum. Oh! Now that she listened close, she could hear the dragons picking it up too. The eggs were hatching!

Covered in meat and blood she'd have to wash quickly! Vine and Triangle would have to fend for themselves, just this once. Nala put the bowl down and set each green on opposite sides. "Be good!" She raced to the barracks where she gave herself a quick wash and pulled on her robe and sandals. Breathless she met up with the other candidates and the candidatemaster in front of the hatching sands.

Already her stomach was flip flopping. She remembered Moo Cow's disappointment. Would she disappoint it again today? What if she disappointed them all today? No, I have to stay positive, she though remembering Black Cat's advice and 90's Picture Day's reassurance. She would dream big!

With a deep breath, the teen moved with the group of candidates onto the sands. Nalacko bowed politely to the parents when she saw them. Congratulations on the hatching. I can't wait to see and meet your babies face to face. She moved further around and found a free spot to stand, waiting hopefully.

As though its time on the Sands before had not been enough, the Lisa Frank Egg did a fitful wobble. There was a simmering frustration lurking beneath the egg's surface, an unaccountable mixture of anticipate and deprivation. Something had not been done quite right, and the egg was not pleased. It seethed onto its side, giving a faint but audible crack, but did not open.

Rundanrul

Being summoned quickly wasn't something new for the young man any longer and as others bustled about, he got ready quickly, efficiently, and as calmly as he could manage. He wasn't one to squeal and panic over a hatching - he'd been to enough now to know how to deal with the adrenaline pumping through him - but he did have an excited gleam in his eye as he stood with the other Candidates. Once they were allowed onto the sands he took his time, not bothered at all with where he'd end up around the eggs. If his was here, they would find him.

A bow to the queen and the sire was given before he picked his spot, suitably away from everyone that had already found a place to stand but with enough room for others to fill in. His eyes were on the eggs as they should be, ready and waiting.

Surel

Oh! Oh! It was time! Surel tripped over herself as she got ready, her heart pounding in overtime as excitement ran through her. Excitement and worry, that is. Worry was always there just beneath the surface. What if she Impressed? She wouldn't be going home for quite some time. What if Dys Impressed? She'd be here without any friends. What if they both Impressed? Well...at least Dys would have a friend here (and Surel, of course), but that didn't fix the not going home for Turns on end.

But! That was fine! She'd be doing what she had sworn to do, to fight for Pern and protect it with her life should the need be there, just as her family did. Even if she was fighting over High Reaches territory she'd still be working to save the planet she held so dear.

She found herself bowing before she realized it (when had she gotten dressed? Had she even listened to F'dral?) and once she'd paid respects to the parents instantly gravitated towards Dys, seeking her friend out of the crowd.

"Oh, look at them!" she whispered softly as she found the other Candidate. "They look ready to burst!"

Versha

This was only her second time standing but Vera walked confidently onto the sands, bowing to Anakumath and Elzebuth as if she'd done this her whole life. Life as a performer before this had certainly given her the confidence to walk into a situation she barely knew with the grace of having done it countless times. She knew her sister was up in the stands watching her as was everyone else, and she was going to put on a show for them if Hers was among those shelled. Finding a suitable spot on the sands, Versha settled in with a little grin on her face as she watched the eggs before her. Only a short time now and things would get under way.

Rider Ly’bur/ Brown Hinburath

Well well well. Ly’bur looked over the candidates as his brown settled onto a ledge. Think she’ll Impress this time? Or just attract attention? Hinburath rustled his wings. Hard to say for sure. Undoubtedly she’ll attract some attention at least. What kind remains to be seen. Ly’bur chuckled. If there’s a gold, I bet it stops by her.

Nuamia She/her - Western

She had been listening for the humming for days now as she stayed at High Reaches. It was so strange to be at another Weyr but the excitement was greater. When the humming started right before dinner she was ecstatic and made a beeline for the barracks. Quickly she changed and was approaching the sands. After bowing to the parents, she proceeded onto the sands with a giddy bounce.

Divisti She/her - High Reaches

Divist was reserved in her response to the humming though inside excitement began to rise. Someone, many someones, would walk away with a bondmate today. Maybe it would be her. She made her way to the Sands after changing and bowed to the parents. She knew the drill and was quiet as she walked onto the sands.

Heleste She/her - High Reaches

Oh boy! Oh boy! Heleste was excitement embodied. She practically vibrated with the joy of the humming. She was one of the first to the barracks and was fast on the sands. A bow later she was standing where she might meet the one.

Remdianori He/him - Western

Remdianori held his head proudly as he stepped onto the sands and bowed to the Queen. She and the baby dragons in the eggs deserved the best and he would provide his. He didn’t see anyone he knew right away and so found a place to stand and waited.

Heida -- HR, she/her

Heida heard the dragons humming before F'dral even called the Candidates to order, and was pulling on her robes when he finally spoke. It was time! The eggs were hatching! She hustled out with the others to the Hatching Ground, bowing almost reflexively to the proud parents before finding a good spot and settling in.

She'd promised Kedah she'd stand with her, and somewhere out here her brother Eralgais would be standing as well. She hadn't been able to find them in the group of Candidates as they marched onto the Sands. Craning her neck, she looked around for both of them, hoping to find at least one. Heida didn't like to attend Hatchings alone -- she was too excited and nervous to Stand alone!

Lojze -- HR, he/him

F'dral's voice startled Lojze, and he stood at attention and listened over the humming of the dragons. He hadn't attended as many Hatchings as some of the others had, at least not as a Candidate; he'd been to his fair share as a guest from High Reaches Hold, though. Still, he knew what this meant -- the eggs were going to hatch! The teen pulled on his white Hatching robes and assembled with the others before moving onto the Sands. This was what he had been waiting for!

The sound of the humming was palpable in the vast cavern that was the Hatching Ground. Lojze bowed respectfully to Anakumath and Elzebuth, then took a position near the front of the group. If he was meant to Impress a dragonet, he didn't want to miss it! He scanned the gathered Candidates, looking for anyone he knew, maybe Nala or Zelaya; they would be good to stand with and share the excitement.

Shaye -- HR, she/her

Despite having stood for quite a few clutches in her five Turns as a Candidate, Shaye was always caught off-guard when the call actually came and the dragons started humming. She scrambled into her white Candidates robes and headed out with the others. Maybe this time... No, she shook her head. She couldn't get her hopes up again only to have them dashed like so many times before. She'd go out there, Stand, and if she Impressed she Impressed. Hoping was just setting herself up to fail yet again.

Bowing to the gold and brown parents, she found a spot in the middle of the gathered Candidates to stand and wait. Unlike some of the others, she preferred to stand alone, so her nerves wouldn't end up being picked up on. No, she had to be cool, calm and collected. Not just for the hatchlings, but for herself too. She had a reputation to uphold, after all.
