Finnisa - HR - She/Her
Things were starting to wind down now—when'd that happened? Well, with everything happening all at once, maybe it just seemed faster? Still, quite suddenly there were only so many hatchlings and eggs left, and Finnisa was made aware quite all at once as something sharp (but not hard-driven) jabbed at her hip, making her jump a little and leap out of the way as best she could, hopefully not colliding with anyone else in the process. "Oh, sorry! Was I in your way? No worries... good luck," she fumbled, upon realizing that it was the remaining gold's wing claw that'd pricked her. A touch to the spot revealed a tiny bit of blood, but it was hardly more than a scratch. The little gold at least was also trying to be polite and give warning. She was a sweet one, it seemed, although given she'd come by with her sister before, Finn assumed that she was not the little one's aim and tried to step even further back.

Heida -- HR, she/her

"Ooooh," Heida murmured as Impression after Impression happened. "Look, Kedah,I think... there's only a few left?" She eyed those few remaining on the Sands, still searching for Theirs. Closing her eyes, she concentrated as hard as she could on welcoming them all to the Weyr, and to Pern, and sending out love and warmth. She wasn't giving up hope yet!

Haveli + Brown Sathanaseth

"No. I like my name, and I like how my name sounds when Sathanaseth says it." Haveli reached over and danced her fingers along her brown's eye ridges, though she stopped when she noticed just how red his eyes were getting. Others had come in, as was natural when a hatching occurred and dragonets got hungry, and clearly her lifemate wasn't having it. He had been tolerating Nimiseth because the blue clearly liked food more than anything else, completely acceptable, but then had come a green who dared reach out.

That was more than enough, and he rumbled angrily as he looked out at the rest of the group. Haveli, oil me. Now. He got up again and headed towards the buckets, his tail swaying with the intent to knock back anyone who accidentally dared to drift close. It was far too close in here, too crowded, and he had just hatched and Impressed.

Sathanaseth really, really wanted his space and he was going to be given it one way or another. Haveli shrugged and got up, setting the knife down. "We'll talk more later, everyone. Dehka, congratulations - she's lovely." The others she'd congratulate properly in time, when they were outdoors at the feast, perhaps, or at their proper lessons. For now she'd go and work on oiling down her dragon before he decided to find a way to do it himself.

"You could stand to be more social." Haveli reached for a brush and a rag before kneeling down at his side. "I'd like to make some friends."

No.

Zelaya - HR - She/Her/They/Them
They nodded back at Lojze, still keeping a watchful eye on the remaining hathclings. "What matters is that they find theirs. We have time, and if we run out of it, then we can still help the Weyr in other ways." They for one had no fear of aging out—riding hadn't been in their life plan before the search at all, but it was an honor not to be denied, and they would, on that distant day, hold their head high and know that they had given their all for the dragons and people of Pern. "There will be more, of course." Turns and turns of clutches to come, there was no reason to worry at all. No matter what the outcome (and they stepped back then to give the searching gold her due space) it was a happy day.

Surel

How did she do it? Surel wasn't sure she'd be able to muster up the willpower to leave the healer's side if she'd been the one to be hurt. But that's why Dys had been her shield, wasn't it? Because she could take a hit and keep on coming.

"Yeah," she agreed quietly, hopeful and yet not that theirs were out there somewhere. If they could make it through this together things might end up all right. All or nothing...but she felt badly at hoping against Dys finding Hers.

"That brown is kind of cute," she said quietly, watching Black Cat pose this way and that for his adoring fans, trying to find a way to distract herself from the slowly encroaching gold.

Versha

Careful not to get clipped by the shining golden wings, Versha sent a warm, welcoming thought to the young queen as she passed by. Any color was fine by her, though she knew a gold would look for someone special. The twin had seemed far more of an attention grabber than this queen, but it worked well to have one twin that stole the show and one that stole the dough...though No. 2 Pencil II didn't seem the type to actually steal anything.

Kahbrohm - He/Him

While he was a (very thinly contained) vat of seething jealousy, Kahbrohm at least could keep out of the way of the young gold who was beginning a more careful search for hers - and he could keep his thoughts attentive on the little green and brown who were still out on the sands and would, inevitably, be looking for theirs by now.

Not that either of them had seemed particularly interested in him until then.

Stupid Dehka. hrhnnghhrhhhh.

-----
Draza - She/Her

"Well, she's darling," Draza said to her sister about the gold who was taking careful steps - but still snagging a few candidates who simply weren't being careful enough. "Maybe yours?" she dared hope, even if this late in the hatching (impressing, really, since all eggs seemed to have hatched) it was fairly likely that if that was so, she'd be stuck alone.

-----

Cetra - She/Her

Cetra frowned slightly at the young queen's plight, looking amongst the girls who were, admittedly, still rather scattered. Did they need to get closer? Cetra had no problem moving to be looked over if that's what was needed.
----

Lihyo - She/Her

Ooooohhhboy, that was a gold getting rather close. While there had been no signs of malice or nipping from either of them, Lihyo's brain still fired off alarms that told her to keep a wide berth so that there was no risk of getting accidentally snagged.

-----

Midrymear - He/Him

Midrymear was off where the boys had been left by a certain bronze and really had no mind for the gold besides to stay out of her way. Instead, she watched the last brown on the sands, as well as that green with more invested notice.

-----

Beelim - He/Him

Similarly, Beelim had no reason to not give the gold a wide berth - she wasn't looking for him, so he'd just watch the rest of the babies while staying out of the way.

----
Niika - She/Her

Niika was certainly not handling this half as well as she'd thought she would, standing up and dusting herself off to leave her seat at last - while doing her best to stay out of everybody else's way. It wouldn't be too hard to find Eriath, and perhaps the green would at least let her linger under a wing, if not perhaps have a moment in A'zota's weyr to still her stupid, petty, covetous brain.

When did that hope switch turn off?

Although there were a few mishaps on her way, (with no few kind and careful Candidates in the meantime) finally No. 2 Pencil II was able to reach the one who she wanted most to meet. The one who had waited so patiently for her. With a soft, wordless apology, she reached out to Ara. This moment would forever change the girl's life, and she knew, keenly, that too much change could be hard to swallow. But it would not do to leave things where they were.

Enveloping the girl in a wave of love and support, the little queen stood up on her hind legs, resting her paws lightly on Ara's shoulders. Dearest of all girls, please don't think for a moment that you weren't worth waiting for. I hope that I have been the same, AraMine. Her eyes whirling in rainbow hues, the little queen nuzzled at her rider tenderly.

There were wounded dragonets and Candidates alike, and she wanted to take care of them, now that the question of selection was out of the way. But not before she first made sure that Ara knew full well that she was loved. Ara, your Damahath has searched all of the Sands for you, but you were here all along. It would come to be a defining moment, and how could it not?

They were together, forever and always. This was as it should be, as it was meant to be. The girl who had once been a drudge was now a Queenrider of Pern - and a High Reaches junior weyrwoman. There was no place higher, not for a newly Impressed rider, but rank was not what this gold wanted. She wanted, more than anything, to simply be Ara's.

[ a'ide of blue elipsath ] - high reaches weyr - they/he - impression post

Between the crush of people and the rather frequent spilling of blood, Alisaide had been doing their best to simply stay out of the way. They'd watched in silent horror as Juhvek had been taken down, and had seen every fight break out with no small amount of concern--this was simply something that happened at Hatchings, of course, but that didn't make it any easier to stomach. What was there for them to do, though? As much as they'd have liked to avert the pain before it could happen, they were only one Candidate.

And then suddenly, they were more than that.

Alisaide... my Alisaide...
Silence. His-- His Alisaide? The little Blue that had approached him had been so carefully escorted to their side by his golden sister, but in this moment, Alisaide only had eyes for him. They thought they'd been prepared for something like this to happen, but now that it actually was, Alisaide was abruptly confronted with the fact that Impression was so much more than they could have ever known--but now they understood. Just like that, it all clicked into place, and the floodgates were thrown wide open.
Will you not join your Elpisath at the feeding table? I know that you have waited for so long for my company, but... please forgive me, I had duties to attend to.
Your Elpisath. Your dragon. Yours. They weren't just Alisaide anymore--they were A'ide, a dragonrider. And there was their Blue, looking at them like they were his entire universe, stars in his eyes and all. A'ide couldn't help but think about how he'd never seen colors as beautiful as the ones whirling through Elpisath's eyes in this moment, a prismatic cascade that held them entranced as surely as a spell.

Nothing else mattered. Not the heat of the Sands, not anyone else watching; this was their moment, and everything happening elsewhere was effectively ignored in favor of what was going on between the two of them. They could feel Elpisath's hearts yearning, the sheer force of his hope and love crashing into them like a wave--A'ide knew that tears had already begun to roll down their cheeks, but their source was far from sadness. He was here--their Elpisath, their perfect Blue, and they would waste no more time before dropping to their knees and wrapping their arms around him how he deserved.

"You had things to do. Don't worry." they whispered, voice shaking. "I'd wait for you. I'd-- I'll always wait for you, okay?"
You won't have to, Mine. I'm here now, and I will stay right. His mindvoice was so soft and familiar, like coming home after too long spent away--A'ide couldn't help but marvel at it, holding on to Elpisath as though he was the only rock they had. In this moment, perhaps he was; A'ide didn't have to ask if their world had been changed, not after all this.
Shall we join the others, then? I'd love to meet all of Theirs now that I've found you! Elpisath's eyes had finally begun to settle into a steady whirl of blue and purple, and he pressed his head into A'ide's shoulder, relishing the closeness. The Blue was taken somewhat by surprise as A'ide gently scooped him up, giving a soft hwenk of delight as it dawned on him what was happening. Sure, there was a moment or two having to adjust a tad to ensure that they wouldn't drop him--but they seemed to know exactly where to put their hands, and he was soon bundled up comfortably.

"Of course. We've gotta get you some food too, you know." A'ide didn't bother to dry the tears from their face--they'd dry soon enough, and they were far more concerned with holding their Elpisath at the moment to move their hands away.
That--does sound rather nice! I can't wait for them to meet you. They're going to love you, you know.
"Pfft. I hope so." They couldn't help the chuckle that escaped them, and Elpisath crooned his delight to match. "Let's go get you sorted, huh?"

With that, they began to walk off the Sands, head held high and a grin wide on their face.

Dystzha - Western - She/Her

The little gold twin left unimpressed was wandering around to look for Hers, and Dystzha both hoped she’d find her way over -- and at the same time, didn’t. Her legs could only take so much more, and wingclaws could be so deceptively sharp. But to garner a queen’s attention -- for her or her friend, would certainly be something.

It was the small, ringing note that with three babies left, their odds were slimmer and slimmer by the passing flicker of a candle. But that was… okay. If today would not be their moment, that was fine. But she couldn’t help but wonder if they also might be out there. But as she held her breath for the searching queen, she found Hers amidst the sands.

Surel’s quiet voice drew her back in, and Dystzha nodded. “He’s an absolute cutie.” He was from… the black cat egg, she was certain. Oh, she’d meant to visit his egg during the touching, and now she can only delight in the poses he struck.

And yet she nodded to the Rainbow green, still primely poised. “She’s quite cute too.”

Rundanrul - Impression

As more of the blues and greens paired off with Theirs, Rundanrul kept his eyes on the two browns that remained, mostly Black Cat since he was actually doing something. Therefore, when a mindvoice called out to him, it took him a moment to figure out where it was coming from.

Are you really disappointed? I know we didn't get to talk for long at all when you touched my egg, but... well, it didn't matter. I knew then that you were mine. Your Ignaviath loves you a lot, Rundanrul, even if I'm not as shiny as my brothers...

Corn Brown - or rather, Ignaviath - made his slow way over to Rundanrul as the boy watched his approach. Yes, he wasn't a bronze, but he was a brown. He slowly crouched so as Ignaviath dragged himself through the sands he was at eye-level, ready to pull the sluggish dragon to him.

But that doesn't matter, right? You love me, too?

"Of course I do," he said very quietly against Ignaviath's warm, dark neck. A brown. Perhaps not a shining bronze, but the warm tones on Ignaviath's body called to mind another brown dragon, the first dragon he'd ever spoken to, touched, ridden on, played with...his grandfather's brown. The golden chain around his neck felt heavier than ever as he realized he'd kept his promise. His grandfather had never been a man of flash or self-importance. He'd been a humble brownrider who served his weyr loyaly until his dying day. And now Rundanrul would be able to carry on in his stead, a brown by his side, and keep his promise he made Turns ago.

Ignaviath's eyes swirled a very lazy rainbow as he leaned into his rider's embrace, practically melting into Rundanrul's arms. Indeed, his legs gave out under him and he settled quite happily on the sands, his wings spreading to wrap around Rundanrul's arms as best they could in return.

Oh good. I was worried for a moment. The congratulations from another Candidate beside them went unheeded by the brown, but Rundanrul turned to give Valain a wide grin.

"Thanks," he said, his voice just a little shaky. It had taken two Turns but here he was, a brown in his arms and a new weyr to conquor.

Mine, I'm hungry. Could you carry me to the feeding tables? Ignaviath implored in his most beseeching tone, curling just a bit more around Rundanrul to try to get him to comply. It was hard to say no, especially when his heart was so full, but Rundanrul was a bit of a lazeabout himself and knew the tricks to getting out of doing work. Was walking work? Perhaps it was.

"Just this once, you lazy thing," he said with all the fondness he could muster. Ignaviath seemed a bit on the underweight side as it was, so he wasn't too hard to hoist into his arms. Ignaviath gave a content purr as he wound his tail around Rundanrul's waist, resting his head on his shoulder as Rundanrul carefully made his way off the sands and to the rest of the weyrlings.

Jemaselle-High reaches- she/her

There went the other little queen. Jemi hadn't thought on impression a queen, she was too plain and rough for them. She knew that, though they were lovely to look at. It was good for her to impress though. She sighed, feeling the hungy now.

Kinyegele and Metisoth

Metisoth looked briefly from the task at hand when Lufianth approached with her sweet greetings and she returned the regard with great warmth and affection for the little anxious green. Isn't he just a little picture of perfection? she praised, giving Dehka an appreciative look and a swish of her tail before Kinye demanded her attention again, as she'd been hovering there with a bite of food in her hand in patient wait for the green to be ready for it.

"I hoped. I wished this would be the time," she told Dehka as she cut up another piece of meat to give Metisoth who waited for each piece without any rushing - no matter if she was hungry or not, it would come and cutting fingers did not make it come faster! Perhaps inspired by Dehka, she leaned over to kiss the top of her dragon's head before pausing to crack a wide, bright smile - finally! Something that wasn't just happy crying!

"I cried all over her!" she added, no shame.

Looking to the other Weyrlings at the table, she peered between each of them and the dragons they fed as though she could see that they were all now simply perfect visual side-by-sides of each other. And it did feel that way to her. "Was it...was it only me?" she added suddenly, a little self-conscious.

Whren-He/Him- High reaches- off sands

Whren moved his knees up, displacing the greens with a soft hiss of disgruntle noise. He sighed, resting his chin on them, arms looped around as he watched the last few hatchlings wander the sands. Another hatchling nearly gone and over with. He ignored the scrambling of the flits feet over his shoulders. Just, see it to the end.

Her siblings had found Theirs, and that meant that it was time for her to get going as well. The Rainbow Green rose to her feet, giving a soft huff as she shook a little of the sand off of her--from there, she began to head toward the Candidates once more, knowing full well where she needed to go. That familiar spark she'd felt was nearby, and when she felt what they were thinking--well, that was unacceptable. She picked up the pace, breaking into almost a gallop as she moved to intercept Hers.

You're not plain or rough. You're lovely. And more than that, you're--you're you. There was no hint of red in her eyes to go along with the rebuke, however--only the rainbow whirl of Impression, connecting her to Jemaselle as naturally as if it had been there from the start. It should have been, really--the girl was her other half, and the Green had known that from the moment she'd touched her egg.
I'm...sorry to have made you wait. Had to make sure everything else went well first. And seeing as it had, she'd finally found her window--but not before Jemaselle had began to think those thoughts, and her hearts ached with the realization that she'd almost waited too long. The Rainbow Green couldn't have allowed Hers to think of herself like that, and certainly not when she was around to do something about it.
I know I'm not--Gold, now. That's pretty obvious. She skidded to a halt in front of Jemaselle, standing straight and tall before Hers without the slightest hint of nerves to bend her. She'd seen this Candidate for who she was, and she'd have no other. But...if you'll have me, I'll be Yours forever. That much, I can promise.

At that, she lowered her head, waiting for Jemi's touch-- she needed Hers more than anything else in the world, and her hearts knew that she'd made the right choice. Jemaselle was her future, but the Green had no doubt that she'd feel the same.
Your Shandath. I hope you like the sound of that.

V'ek and Blue Nimiseth

"I was too shocked to do more than hurry over here," Vannek admitted. "He was very hungry." Nimiseth still was, unnaturally so it seemed. Vannek stopped cutting and ran his thumb across his blue's cheek. The dragon opened purplish-blue eyes and butted his head against his rider's knuckles. Yes, please. More.

Okay. For now. Vannek was beginning to realize that he might have a problem on his hands.

"But if there's any time for crying, it's now. I don't think anything could have prepared me for this."
