Iyuko was raised in the Konoha to a widowed Kunoichi by the name of Asuka Uzumaki. Because she was her only daughter, and only child, Iyuko grew up completely spoiled, pampered, and given everything she wanted, but she was a fighter. When she was about three years old, before her first solid memory, she was introduced to another girl, a couple months older than her, named Akahana Kinuko. They got along together famously, and grew up essentially as sisters. Best friends, they have each other's back and if either is picked on, the other has their back... plus a very angry Asuka, showing off the reason the women of the Uzumaki are feared.
Growing up, Iyuko was taught that she was special because of her kind nature and strength, and told that if anyone was to give her s**t, especially from one of the clans claiming to be at the top, the Uchiha or the Hyuuga. She was enrolled somewhat late into the academy, if ever only as a means to defend herself, but she proved to be quite adept at Ninjutsu and especially Eiseijutsu, proving to the academy she would be a medical ninja on the front lines.
Iyuko got sick one day, forced to stay home to her own dismay. When she was allowed back at school, her best friend was sitting with a stranger, much taller than her and introduced him as Derych Kain, a foreigner who stood up for her. That was enough for Iyuko, who thanked him, and the three started hanging out. The trio from then on would often be found sitting together, eating lunch together, even hanging out after classes or in their free time. The group also turned out to be surprisingly well rounded, covering for each other's weaknesses where they could and building a teamwork structure. The academy has gone on to mention to the village head that Iyuko best got along with Derych Kain and Akahana Kinuko and was rather stiff, if not polite (when she wasn't given some grief of some kind) with Hyuuga and Uchiha family members.
