Kinyegele and Green Metisoth

While the other took their turns to get off the ground, or at least try, Kinye had done her best to massage her dragon's sore wing muscles. "Do they feel any better?" she asked after a few minutes, having been tired of the task nearly immediately but also desiring nothing more than to be helpful - especially to someone who was already so beloved to her. Metisoth gave another stretch of her wings, noting the soreness still tingled along her back, but allowed herself to appease in this instance. I am sure I will feel it more tomorrow, but for today it will do. she gave her rider-to-be (because truly, if they couldn't be in the sky together now was Kinye truly riding?) a small boop as she did another set of preparatory stretches of her wings.

It was time to try another takeoff.

Quote:
It's difficult to get off of the ground to begin with. This requires a lot more muscle strength than you were prepared for, and by the time you're airborne, you are already pretty tired.

Soreness was perhaps more to struggle against than Metisoth had prepared for and her initial second attempts at takeoff weren't all that great - she'd have to fight against that new-muscle-workout grind a little harder....

Quote:
You may be tired, but your are mighty! Take that, sky! You muster up a hidden reserve to remain in the air, but now the trouble is how you land.

Fortunately, Metisoth was stubborn enough in this instance to get back into the air, though she'd absolutely be feeling her struggle up once she was back on the ground. It, again, had not been graceful, but she'd mostly kept that edge of Kinye's nerves from flaring into worry and she sent a brush of reassurance to her lifemate to let her know all was well.

Unfortunately, her landing would be just as graceless and Kinye would spend a few minutes while Metisoth rested her wings to check over her claws to make sure nothing had been damaged too badly.

Hybreoth was ready to be up in the sky, but did not allow impatience to ooze from him. Instead, the dragon kept himself collected, his usual self-assurance little surprise as he listened to Dhremorath's instruction. Not, of course, that he needed such a thing--but R'him preferred the dragon at least set a decent example. Honestly, as far as Hybreoth was concerned, he was going to be a natural, for this was what he had been hatched to do -- take to the skies!

How magnificent he'd look, of that the bronze dragon was most certain. He would set a shining example for his clutchmates, and was certain he'd be applauded for his efforts.

Don't get too ahead of yourself, pal, R'him thought, though pride and fondness touched his words. He believed in Hybreoth and was thrilled to see his dragon take wing--but he wanted to at least prepare him for the possibility--

Impossible though it will be! Interjected the bronze.

--that perhaps things wouldn't go quite as smoothly as he imagined.

Hybreoth did peer down at his, and resting his snout gently behind R'him's head, gave a very loud and very amused snort. If a dragon could bark with laughter, that was exactly what the bronze was doing--and R'him knew it.

Regardless, the man was used to his beloved, and wouldn't waste time on raining on Hybreoth's parade. This was his dragon's time, come what may, and whatever happened they would be together. Dragon's were born to fly, afterall--and he knew just how eager Hybreoth was to take to the sky.

Eyes whirling a bright blue-green, the dragon took a moment to admire his green clutchmates as they took to wing. Lufianth, Metisoth, Soralieth--they were all fine to watch and nothing catestrophic happened. If he rumbled encouragement, it was surely becuase he was feeling generous--and who wouldn't want support from a dragon of his caliber?

As fine as it was to watch, Hybreoth was determined to take flight. "Watch the landing now," R'him warned, even as he thumped Hybreoth's side and stepped back to give him room. Good luck!

As if he needed it.

Quote:
1 - 5: You start off strong, but then a gust of wind throws you off your game. Roll a d4 to see whether you're able to correct your trajectory:

Everything began perfectly. He bunched his muscles, threw himself into the air, and with a few powerful flaps he was rising higher and higher. There was no struggle getting airborne, and even R'him had to bite back a holler of delight. For a great shining moment, everything was perfect--and R'him's pride was clear as he watched Hybreoth soar.

But things changed quickly, and just as R'him was about to think that maybe his dragon was a natural--a sudden wind gust threatened to batter him around. The bronze dragon knew that currents could easily throw a dragon back to the ground, or push them off course--but naturally, the dragon had assumed it would be a problem his smaller and more delicate clutchmates would suffer from.

Quote:
2. You've been doing a lot of flaps to prepare for this, and you manage to overcome this temporary hurdle, but ouch, your muscles hurt.

----

Thankfully, the dragon had come in prepared. Sort of. While R'him had felt his alarm, Hybreoth did his best not to look any too startled--and while there was some yellow-orange within his gaze, the blue-green returned quickly as he managed to right himself. He pushed through the gust, and even managed to float down to the ground more delicately than either had imagned.

You all right? R'him asked, even as he jogged to where his bronze had landed. The dragon gave another snort, but did lower his head so His might make much of him--that was his due, after all.

Certainly. The wind was nothing to me. Nevermind that his muscles were objecting. Though the dragon might not fuss about the sensation--especially in front of his clutchmates--R'him knew that he was more uncomfortable than he wished to let on.

So it was, the bronze took a moment to admire his clutchmates, and rumble approval at their attempts. He was not catching his breath and giving his wings a rest--surely not. He was letting them possess the sky for a moment more yet. Surely, no one could say he wasn't a generous bronze.

Kinyegele and Green Metisoth

Well, we've all been doing fairly well, Metisoth pointed out, watching her clutchmates - and nearly clutchmates - as Kinye fussed over her claws and feet with a dutiful concern born of innate bond. "That's good!" Kinye replied brightly, finally relinquishing the green's foot once she seemed to be appeased. Though her muscles were still sore, Metisoth took a deep breath and readied herself to take to the skies again - the last push she'd be allowed.

It was better nobody pushed themself to falling out of the sky, right? Still, Metisoth was hoping she'd at least not struggle to get off the ground this time.

Quote:
How many ways could this possibly go wrong? You've managed to throw yourself completely off course, and honestly, any solution right now seems like a good one.

Getting off the ground was, fortunately, not too difficult. But being in the air was turning out to be a little rockier than Metisoth had been ready for after a little wearing down - not that she allowed herself to look as slightly panicked as she was feeling. Kinyegele sent her a warm wash of support - You've got this! You're doing great and I'll come running to catch you if I have to!

Not that Kinyegele would have done a good job of it.

Quote:
Is it your hatchday, because you are killing it. Possibly literally, when it comes to the plant life you just demolished on landing, but you know what? You stuck the landing.

Nor did Metisoth particularly want Kinyegele to try. Metisoth took a deep breath, forcing the orange and yellow from her eyes and pushing all of those worrying thoughts from her mind as she tried to level out what was admittedly very shakey and off course flying. The best option was to find a way down and she briefly considered reaching out to one of the adult dragons around for a touch of advice. But she wasn't entirely certain there was time for such an exchange before she needed to get down, rather than being sent off and away farther and farther from her Kinyegele.

You're looking good - do you think you can land? Kinye asked, trying to peek into her dragon's mind to look at the scenery around her. Metisoth hadn't gone TOO far off yet, but the farther she went the more anxious Kinye was getting about it. Metisoth simply couldn't have that so she'd have to work on a landing of some sort first.

It wouldn't be a graceful one, but nothing of these first flying attempts had been - more of a crash landing, than a descent - but she stayed on her feet and Kinye only ended up fussing over her feet and claws a little when they were finally together again.

"I think you deserve a break!"

Frankly, she was happy to have one for now.

Is’k & Brown Kuyizeth

Months of training and preparation, and it had finally come down to finally using those wings for more than just intricate fans to pose and dance with. Kuyizeth was eager to get started, and to get up into the air. After all, only so many could admire him from the ground. But once he was up in the air? Oh, no, no, no, none would ignore him, then.

“I don’t anyone would have the audacity to ignore a handsome boy like you now.” Is’k chuckled, patting his dragon on the shoulder.

Certainly not. I -am- the best, after all. But it was time to start this thing, and he takes a few trotting steps away from his rider. He’s got a few leaping steps, his wings spreading wide and giving a heaving push to lift off...

Quote:
1 - 5: You start off strong, but then a gust of wind throws you off your game.

’There we go! Good job!’ Is’k’s mental cheer makes Kuyizeth bugle in delight, as he gets height and lift off the ground. His siblings must not be as naturally adept at this whole flying thing like he was -- and woe that they weren’t! Oh, he’d just have to show them how it’s done.

Quote:
You veer off of your intended path, angling for a small copse of trees. Try though you might, you can't maintain control and crash into the underbrush.

Yet the breeze has other plans, veering the brown off into a direction that was away from the group. Oh, he hadn’t wanted to go this way--

As Kuyizeth tried to right himself, he spills into a small span of trees with a bark. But he’s quick to reassure his rider everything was alright -- it was only his pride that was bruised, after all.

At least no one but Is’k had seen his folly. And it’s thanks to himself not being hurt that he wouldn’t lash out at the trees for existing in such a bad spot. Hmph.

Niika and Blue Heleyanth (Mention of Eriath w permission)

"Come now, taking turns is important," Niika gently chided Heleyanth, stroking her hand along his face. The young blue was on the cusp of beginning to pace back and forth, held in place only by the woman's gentle touches and doting attentions. But when is it my turn, Niika? he implored with a small hint of desperation. Everybody was so focused on getting up in the air, was anybody even going to care when it was his turn? "Soon - and I care, you know. And I'm sure Eriath is watching. Anakumath too - and when you're all done you can see if Balizarth or Banshidheth want to hear about it too." Why, that was so many people to potentially hear about the day that the small blue was all but vibrating in place now.

"Make sure you stretch your wings out, you'll get to go soon," Niika instructed, running her hand down his neck. Heleyanth's wings flared out so suddenly he nearly caught one of the other Weyrlings next to him - earning a small keen of apology from the blue.

But then it was time to take to the sky! His turn! Heleyanth took a very impatient start.

Quote:
It's difficult to get off of the ground to begin with. This requires a lot more muscle strength than you were prepared for, and by the time you're airborne, you are already pretty tired.

And perhaps his impatience was why it felt like he wasn't getting off of the ground at all. Slowly - you need to push up, not forward, love. Niika coached, which Heleyanth found awfully funny for someone who didn't have wings. I have your wings, Heleyanth. Or are you saying you don't want to fly with me? Niika pretended to be hurt by the idea coaxing Heleyanth into her more patient approach to at least make it off of the ground.

Quote:
You are a sky warrior, and though tired you are not defeated. At the last second you find a thermal and rise above it all. ... Way, way above it, and... halp!

Aha! I did it!...We did it! Heleyanth bugled brightly once he was finally in the air, able to ignore the strain his muscles had gone through for the effort though Niika did not. Look at you! You're a natural! Niika heaped on the praise, though her delight was not so secondhand at the little blue's success. Though the initial elation to get up was quickly interrupted when Heleyanth was suddenly shot up MUCH higher than he was anticipating, causing him to bleat with surprise - and distress.

Calm, baby! You're okay! Niika said, though Heleyanth's distress was palpable to her. He'd not expected to be launched and certainly had not been quite that ready to be up-up-up! You can ask one of the bigger dragons for help. Niika reminded. Heleyanth, naturally, was eager for a little extra attention.

Eriath! Help! while he was able to remain rather even-keel that high up, the idea of getting down was very daunting. Fortunately, the older green was calm in her assurances that he was, indeed, fine and despite the rocky way down, and a mess of a landing, Heleyanth was no less worse for the wear. In fact, any panic was immediately forgotten once he was on the ground and while he'd have to wait his turn, Heleyanth was immediately bounding over to the older dragons.

Did you see? I flew!!

Solameya and Green Prulienth - NPC Clutch

Okay. Okay. Prulienth stood with her fellow weyrlings, shifting in place with her nervous excitement. When the word went out for what the plan for today was, she initially fretted to her rider. What if she wasn't ready? What if she was really, really bad in front of her clutchsiblings and the other weyrlings? What if she wasn't strong enough? Solameya had gathered her muzzle into her hands and placed a kiss on the end of her snout to snap the green out of her anxious spiral. She was ready, the woman had assured her as she began to address the spouted off concerns. Today was going to be everyone's first times taking to the sky. Assuming everyone was going to be flawless straight away while she would fail wasn't fair to her. Absolutely everyone was learning. Prulienth was reminded of the exercises and practice that they had been doing specifically to help build up her strength. She really wasn't giving herself enough credit. After being sufficiently placated, the young green was ready as she could be to face the day.

As it came for her bondmate to make her first attempt, Solameya sent off a little extra encouragement. 'Deep breaths now, Prulienth. You've got this! It's all good.'

Prulineth flapped and flapped and jumped, almost pawing at the air as she managed to get lift off. 'Ah, I'm up!' Without the ground beneath her, the green was suddenly so consciously aware of all of her limbs and how everything felt so odd to try and coordinate.

Quote:
16-20: How many ways could this possibly go wrong? You've managed to throw yourself completely off course, and honestly, any solution right now seems like a good one.

She couldn't say when it all went wrong, but it sure did! She was waaay off course and rapidly creeping sense of worry started closing in on her. What to do? What to do?!

The gentle reminder from hers to breathe deeply, slow her racing thoughts helped bring her back in the now. 'You are doing just fine. You're in the air, Prulienth. Come on back down. Okay?'

'Right...Yes. Okay. H-here I go...' Adjusting her wings and legs in a way that felt right, Prulienth descended.

Quote:
3: Is it your hatchday, because you are killing it. Possibly literally, when it comes to the plant life you just demolished on landing, but you know what? You stuck the landing.

The ground came up so quickly, but with a bit of a skid to a stop, crushing and tearing up the plants that she happened to come to a stop in. Remaining still for a moment in the odd, wide stance she had landed in, Prulienth blinked. 'Ah, I did it. I did it, SollyMine!' Righting herself, Prulienth looked back at the small swath of kacked up greenery, but shook herself and trotted back to where she and her rider had been standing among the group. 'Did you see me?' For how scary the start of her first attempt went, she was actually able to land! She was buoyed up on the positive conclusion. The worry she had come in with was lessened.

Niika and Blue Heleyanth

I'm ready to go again! Heleyanth announced, despite Niika's frown over the soreness of his muscles. It's normal for new muscles to ache, he'll be fine... she assured herself, but even knowing none of the adult dragons around would have let any of the babies simply fall out of the sky she couldn't help but worry. As if picking up the edges of her concern, Heleyanth announced his intentions once again: I'm going now! You'll see it's fine! he bugled as he took a running start - without allowing His to prepare herself for it.

Quote:
Psh, this flying thing is smooth sailing! You don't know what all the fuss is about. Except, now that you're here it occurs to you that you don't know how to land.

To his credit, the petite blue absolutely launched from the ground with little issue this time. See! A little soreness won't keep me down! Heleyanth informed Niika as he joined a few of his siblings and 'siblings' who were up in the air with lazy circles. He wasn't quite ready to show off yet - rather, Niika was keeping a tether on that desire less he push himself too far. But the circuit seemed to be going well before-

Niika? How do I...get down? he asked, hoping the young woman had perhaps held onto that knowledge for him to partake in right then when he was needing it.

Quote:
Nobody said this was going to be easy, but somehow you didn't realize it would be this hard either. Try though you might, you can't quite pull of the smooth landing you've seen all the adults do. But at least you managed to land.

Go easy into it, darling - no, that's too steep...thaaaat's better... Niika absolutely leaned into her lifemate's vision to advise as best she could - but she wasn't a dragon and had no instincts for it. One circled attempt turned into two and then a third before he slammed into the ground. He was still on his feet, certainly, but Niika could feel her own knees aching in sympathy as she rushed over to check him over.

That wasn't so bad! See?
