The time had come. Kelebek hadn't been sure it was ever going to come, but it had. It hadn't been anything special, or a big loud moment. But one day Kelebek and Hjortur had looked at each other and they'd known--it was time to grow their family again.
They'd dispatched a messenger mellon to the Fairy of Life, who met them at the lake's edge. After a little chat, Kelebek and Hjortur had received the special brew, and they'd set about to planning. With Sindri still visiting Breeheart, they suggested to Kadri that he might spend a night with his friend Quetzal--a boys' night in. Kadri, to his immense credit, seemed to understand that his parents needed some alone time and had happily made himself absent.
Kelebek and Hjortur had made a whole evening's affair of the little drink. With their home to themselves, they giggled and flirted through dinner and dessert, drunk on anticipation, enjoying their favorite foods and drinks. They drifted to their bedroom, potion bottle in hand, still acting like new lovers. Each took a drink, and then spent the rest of the night, till the wee hours, mm, occupied.
---
Many tides later, and after an uneventful laboring, two delicate baby girls joined the family!
Kelebek was lounging on the bed, snuggled with the sleeping girls. She smiled over at Hjortur. Her heart was full.

Much to his word, at some point after Sindri had headed to Breeheart with Anxo, Kel had come to him with a certain look in her eyes. It was something he'd only seen a few other times, the times when she'd spoken about having children. He wasn't one to think too hard about that himself, but he was a fish of his word. When she'd come asking, he'd accepted her advances.
The entire process was a novel learning experience - from contacting this "Millie" to making the exchange to the ensuing night and seasons to come, everything was truly unique. It was hard to put into words - much different to experience as a father than a grandfather.
And thank Alu everything had gone swimmingly and they were blessed with two absolutely adorable little girls.
Sure, even they had some... peculiarities about them... but they were at least closer to a regular naiad this time, and those little heart fins were absolutely adorable. Yup. They'd be little heartbreakers in their own right when they got older, of that he was sure.
Speaking softly, he wrapped an arm around Kel's shoulder with a smug grin, "They really take after me, now don't they?"

Kelebek chuckled softly and rested her head on Hjortur. "Mm, they do," she agreed, "But girls have a tendency to take after their mother as they grow. So I have faith." She smiled a cheeky smile and gave the sleeping girls a gentle squeeze.
It was impossible for her to love any of her children more than any other, but something about this pregnancy had been so much more pleasant. Something about having planned it, rather than having it be a surprise (one way or the other) made her so much less anxious.
"My little angelfish," she cooed softly.
Clearing her throat as quietly as possible, she added to Hjortur, "Could I trouble you for something to eat?" she asked. Though the delivery had been smooth, Kelebek was tired nevertheless, not to mention the two sleeping babies nestled into her body.

Kelebek paused to consider what she felt in the mood for. "Something light," she said after a moment. "And something to drink, as well, if you would. Thank you, love."
As Hjortur disappeared for a moment to get what she'd asked for, Kelebek had a moment to think. Soon they'd send for Kadri, who had spent the day with Kelebek's parents. He'd asked to help, but truthfully the most help he could be is being safely out of the house. Kelebek knew he'd be anxious to meet his sisters. He'd been asking when the babies would come for the last several tides.
"We should send word to Sindri," she said to Hjortur when he returned. "Even if he doesn't come home, he still ought to know that they're here and everyone is healthy."

Kelebek gratefully took the drink bubble and sipped from it. An odd thing, how she could get thirsty surrounded by water. Then she nibbled on the fish eggs first. "You always know exactly what I want," she said to Hjortur in thanks. She'd get around to the other snacks eventually, but the roe was exactly the combination of light, fresh, and fortifying that she had been craving.
"Mm, not that I've seen," she answered, shaking her head. "I hope everything's alright up there." She took one of the girls into her arms, who had woken and begun to fuss, rocking and cooing at her. Kelebek tried to calm her own mind. Would she ever stop worrying about her children? No. She still worried about Toli, Moana, and Zoran, who had been adults and on their own for a long time. But these babies that were here, now, needed her to be calm.
Nope, couldn't drop it. "Why's he staying so long, anyway?" Her "whiny" tone belied a deep anxiety beneath.
