Interesting, sad, and typical article for these times. Ashleigh as you know Cosplay originally came from Japan. In America their is an ever growing divide between cultures, races, and color. Cosplay is suppose to be about the joy of expressing characters that you like in Cosplays and outfits.

With people who are or not Japanese complaining about people cosplaying variations of characters like color is absurd. They wouldn't do that. Everything lately is under attack. Cosplayers need to rise above the nonsense and not fall into the traps like the one that the streamer mentioned. I really feel for the lady.

Cosplay originated here in the US in the 1920s, however the modern interpretation of it is very Japanese in origin.

I watch a lot of Joey's videos. One of the topics that I wished he touched on was that African American cosplayers will often use hairstyles that are considered "black hair" for a special reason. It is a symbol of pride for them during a time that natural hair can be considered "ugly" by some (I personally think if you can rock an afro, then rock it).

I'm curious. What kind of characters were Cosplayed in the 1920's. Also I didn't know their was cosplay then. For me I was introduced to the concept of Cosplay back in 2007. I Love Anime / Manga Cosplays the most. My Cosplay Photography shows that. Well they say you learn something new everyday.

From what I know the cosplays were based from early Sci-fi and fantasy films as well as books such as Sherlock Holmes. Fairy Tales, folklore, and mythology were also popular sources of cosplay. Comic strips were another common source and those of course evolved into the comic revolution in the 1930s.

Cosplay was always fairly low key until the 70s (Mainly in Japan, but a little in the US) when you see it slowly build into popularity while becoming a full on subculture by the 1990s (This is when American cosplay really started to take off) and of course just continued into popularity from then on.

My Grandma Irene (step-grandma) would always says something along the lines of "You learned something so you survived another day". Basically the moment you stop learning is the moment you die mentally.

I went to a con in October and only people who pre-reg got in and another con (that I would normally go to) are only doing 1000 people (not counting staff, guest, and venders). That one is normally a 3000-4000 person con.

No Surprise considering the fear of Covid. Youmacon in Detroit only had 1000 people comparied to 10000 or more, Hopefully next year things will be better. I really miss going and doing my main activity taking photos of Cosplayers.

I also want to mention that there were temp checks daily to get in.

This was a while ago, but I think it's an important discussion in what are the responsibilities' of a con when it comes to the guest.

I have personal experience with this. The offender who committed the crime tried to flirt with me at a different con at an earlier point of the year. I kind of feel lucky that I didn't run into this guy that much during the con and I was uninterested in being in a relationship at the time this happened (also stranger danger is real with me). I think I can say that I was lucky that nothing happened to me.

My niece years ago cosplayed one of the Homestuck characters and I took photos of Homestuck Cosplayers many years ago. I put the characters into the Horror category. The interest I thought died down but who knows.

No one has made a discussion video about this, so here's the clip and I'll give a run down.

So this gentleman at London MCM jumped on the stage while the Podcast/Youtubers of Trash Taste were on. I follow them on Youtube and they mentioned several things. First Joey (the youtuber the guy sat next to), was uncomfortable about the situation. The guy also tried to grab the mic and Joey avoided a takeover. Second Connor (the Welsh guy) mentioned that no one was there to escort the gentleman off. That they themselves had do anything (which the man did just leave).

So continued from the post above. The Youtubers also went to Anime Expo and faced a similar problem.

I remember many years ago when Deforest Kelly (Dr McCoy) was at a convention speaking. He had a police escort to keep him safe. Other Star Trek stars had people rush the stage to get to them. Some it was attention, and some was to get an autograph and one time to do harm. I worked with my Star Trek Club back then and some of us were extra security for the con for the actors. We would ask politely some people to not bother the stars. Some of my group had Walkie Talkies to tell each other if there was a bigger threat. As for the video's it looked like a over enthused person who wanted to cause trouble. We had fun interacting with the stars while keeping an eye out.

As someone who has volunteered at cons, there is always a monitor in the rooms. I've been that person. They are also crowd control. So why did MCM not have that person?

Some people think that they are such a big celebrity that they don't need security. In other words "Full of themself" and "I'm all that".

Still someone of staff should have been there and tell him that he's not all that. Trash Taste mentioned they never had this happen before and thought there was at least one person of staff there.

Panel monitors are also there for the telling the staff that the language or topic is not appropriate for the panel (save it was an 18+) panel.
