As Conventions start to become live and in person again I have heard about some new, exciting, and strange events that are happening at them. One example is Colossalcon in Ohio (See Guild Announcement for more info about the Con). They are having a version of a sleepover party where guests bring their pillows and watch Anime up on a big screen. One of the new Anime that they are showing is the premier of the new Sailor Moon Eternal Movie!!

Let us know about any Strange events that you have either gone to in the past or that you know about in future Anime / Cosplay conventions.

Well they did have "Sleepovers" in the pass. It was mostly people in a fandom meeting at night in character and in pjs. Though those were usually informal and at most was a panel. It's kind of cool that they are making it more official and even hosting a formal event through the con.

As far as things that I've seen in the past that are pretty cool, I'd have to say that some cons host photo spots. They build a special scene within con space (tori gate, classroom, Office, etc) for cosplayers to come and take images that they may not normally be able to take. It's pretty cool. I wished more cons did that. I know that there is a stadium space that does it in Tokyo and AX does it.

Strange at a convention is interesting so long as it's at the very most PG-13 rated.

I have been at Conventions "After Hours" and believe me a lot of strange and inappropriate behavior was everywhere. Fortunately it was an 18 and over crowd. Just the same it was like walking through a mine field. You had to keep on your toes to avoid trouble. Usually late at night at a con I would be either in an AV Room watching Anime or in a panel room. Each to their own I guess.

AV rooms and all other adult related themes were moved off the main convention area to a casino at another part of the city. Guess there were too many 'bad' kind of strange things happening at my convention during those times. So it had to move.

I think the a lot of West Coast cons keep it mild then. Radcon was the craziest I've been to. Their after hours is more like drinking so it's 21+. SakuraCon is more like mature subjects/cursing that you can't talk about in front of kids. I only go if the panel is interesting or if I'm supporting the host.

Youmacon which is in Downtown Detroit is one of the biggest conventions in the country. I try to go every year. What makes it so big is that it's in the Marriot Hotel in the Renaissance Center and the "Former" Cobo Hall (TCF Center now) for 72 hrs straight. The over night happens mostly at the Hotel. Since their rooms are so close people just let their inhibitions' go wild.

The main Rave at the con is during the main evening and overnight. Their are so many people dancing at the same time that the whole Renaissance Center shook constantly. We don't get earthquakes in Michigan so I had to think about it for a moment. I told my brother the building is shaking! It's amazing considering the central spire of the center is 73 stories tall and the other 4 spires are 39 stories tall.

Just to be fair not everyone goes wild. 😀 Many people do go to nearby Greektown. Both it's restaurants and Hotel. I imagine that people who don't know about the con would find it strange or alarming to see cosplayers gambling at the Greektown Casino.

SakuraCon's main event hall shakes the outside part of that. You step into the lobby and you hear it.

Believe it or not I went through a bar and nightclub stage in my life back in my 20's. I even went to dances to meet people and perhaps go on a date with someone. I don't drink or smoke so I was always the designated driver if I was in a group. I had fun dancing and if I was in my 20's now going to a rave or dance at a convention would be high on the list. I find it interesting seeing how people change when they a few drinks in them.

As a result in these times I can easily tell if someone is having a "really" good time. My curiosity is still their especially when the cosplayers are literally bringing down the house. Yet it gives me more reasons to be cautious. I would feel out of place going to a rave now. I do want to go to a concert that has either J-Pop or K-Pop singers in it.

I have to admit I'm the same way, though I don't ever think I was really part of that scene. I got really popular in high school, but those were a little more formal.

I have no issue with more formal dances. Some Cons have dances like that. There are strict rules at those dances. Which reminds me I should make a formal gown one day based around a costume. Like Belle or Cinderella.

Between the two I would go with the Belle Cosplay.

Another strange event that I saw at a convention. Was a tournament where it consisted of Cosplayers fighting against each other like in sword fighting. It was funny because the swords were bats made out of soft plastic. I watched for a while but didn't join in. I did take advantage of photo opportunities though of the "losers". LOL

I'll do all the Disney Princesses one day. Right now I have Ice Queen Elsa partly done, but I have patterns for Coronation and Adventure Anna, Coronation Elsa, Cinderella, Merida, Belle, and Snow White. As more patterns are released I'll buy those too.

At Kuroneko Con they have foam-sword fights (hosted by the con). My childhood friend is always in charge of those.

I can't wait to see how they turn out. When you're dressed as a Disney Princess do kids come up to you and even want to take photos with you? Stephanie had that happen before.

What do you think of my new Avi?
