Name: Li'ro [Lietro]
Age: 27
Nameday: 3550.04.23
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Ex-apprentice Harper/Trader - Focus in singing, performing, playing instruments
Physical Description: Standing in at about average height with a trim build, Li'ro has an eclectic and fun loving feel to him. With naturally pale, but oft sun tanned skin, he has medium brown, curly hair falls to his mid-upper arm when worn loose and is shorn close to his skull along the nape of his neck and sides of his head to keep cool and for ease of maintaining. His hair is kept in all manner of styles from simpler buns or ponytails to more complex plaits, twists, and other arrangements. He has heterochromia, one eye being blue and the other being green. Li'ro's clothing tends to be well fitting for him and often seems to use color palettes that vary depending on his mood when getting ready in the morning. Accessories, when doing work, tend to be simpler things, things not likely to slip off or get hung up on something (e.g.: leather braided wrist bands, maybe a ring or two, an earring, etc.). Gathers, parties, are performances are whole other affairs that he tends to have a lot of fun dressing and getting ready for.
Personality: Having grown up in a caravan full of traders and performers, and even went on to became an officially trained Harper/performer himself, Li'ro doesn't know the meaning of shy. He really enjoys being around others, interacting and engaging with coworkers, wingmates, random passersby if he's desperate. Constantly being on the move and going on to performance arts, he grew used to plans having to change or for sudden switches to itinerary or partners. Someone jumped the script or forgot the next bars of the music? Someone got sick or injured and he needs to pick up what the person was doing while they're out? That's fine! Li'ro is pretty adept at improvising and rising to meet the needs that the situation dictates. Now, this isn't something he was just naturally born with. He is driven to trying to do really well at what is important to him, or what makes him happy. He'll practice, he'll study, run through the lines and actions until it's as sure to him as his own name. He becomes good at what he does and with that effort beings self-confidence that permeates into the rest of what he does.

There is the issue of his capriciousness though. Yes, he does try to become good at what he does, but he gets swept up with new or interesting somewhat related things that can get him off track of true mastery. He's sort of content being a good allrounder, a jack of all trades, than a master of one, as evidenced by his focus on singing, acting/performing, and playing not one, but three musical instruments. His changeable, theatrical nature can have him react unexpectedly to the same or similar stimuli on separate occasions. Oh, you can be certain to hear of the dreadful, small inconveniences or jabs he may have had to deal with, and how it was the absolute worst or how he likely reciprocated in kind in some way or another. While he may make a big to-do about smaller slights and grievances, or put on shows of frustration or other roiling emotion, Li'ro actually tends to let go of annoyances and anger quite quickly. His stance is to let vent to the nastiness that may crop up instead of just holding onto it, keeping it in. Such nonsense is too heavy to maintain for too long as that darkness is likely to grow to poison you, or make you get wrinkles and go gray from stress, if you don't just let it go. Appearances are important to Li'ro. He strives to maintain his wardrobe, to keep presentable. When playing a part, he never minded putting on makeup or adopting the guise of the filthy or wizened, but be sure as soon as the curtain fell, the costume was removed and he thoroughly washed away what remained. Chirikuth, as a side benefit of this vanity, often gets spoiled with luxurious and frequent oilings and baths, which keeps the brown's hide 1) looking nice, and 2) keeps it from drying out from hopping between and helps with healing when he does get a threadscore or other injury.

Positive Trait List Driven, extroverted, adaptable, self-assured
Negative Trait List Capricious, petty, dramatic, vain
History: Lietro was born to a family that was part of a traveling performing troupe/trader band. As he travelled around with his family, before long it came time for him to start considering what he wanted to do in his life. Taking up troupe and traders that his folks belonged to seemed the easiest choice. He had friends here, some helped raise him, and there was hard work, yes, but so often there was something fun or exciting to get involved in. There were so many options that he could pursue. If he wanted to lean into the trading side of things, Lietro could pick up making things to sell, or even just help with the movement of merchandise...Maybe navigation to help everyone get around? Honestly, the prospect of predominantly doing heavy lifting and such wasn't the most appealing to the lad. Truth be told, he felt most drawn to the performances the troupe would hold. He discussed with his parents as well as a few of the folks that helped lead the troupe side of the band. He got a couple more options. Lietro could unofficially assist and learn the ropes by just working and following along with folks already within the group, or, when they were next passing near Fort Hold, he could be dropped off for a year, or more if he chose, to get official training with the most stability and resources available to him.

He decided on the latter option and, as had been promised, when the group passed near to Fort Hold, he was sent with one of the performers, a Harperhall alumni themself, to get the lad settled. He was twelve at the time. Lietro stayed with the Hall for four years, utterly drinking in everything they had to offer, exploring various aspects of the craft, before reaching back out to his troupe, asking to rejoin them. He was picked up and for another few years, travelled around, honing his skills, working with fellow Harpers, a few courtesans, and well seasoned troupe laymen to entertain those who came to see their performances when the set up camps along the road. When he was nineteen, the trader/troupe band had set up camp near Southern Boll Hold, Lietro and a few of the performing folk headed into the Hold proper to help put out word of their show, plus putting out feelers what sort of supplies they could pick up. Going about his business, Lietro was stopped by a search rider of all things. "Oh, interested in maybe coming to the show later? I can give you directions. It truly isn't something to be missed," the young harper chimed. Apparently, while tempting, she had stopped him because her dragon sensed that he had the makings of a candidate.

Now, Lietro prided himself on being pretty adept at reacting quickly to unexpected changes, after all, it was a skill to be able to adlib or adjust what one was playing if need be, but this revelation stunned him into silence. The thought about being a dragon rider had never occurred to him. He was happy as a singer, actor, musician that got to travel around with his family and friends. Sure, dragons were amazing, gorgeous creatures, but Lietro couldn't say he envied or longed to be a rider. He had been content as he had been, but being so frankly told by a rider pair that he had the makings of one intrigued him. After asking if they'd be in the Hold for a few days, or if they'd be attending the show, and got an answer of yes, off Lietro went, back home. He spent the rest of the afternoon doing much pondering. Deciding to give it a go, he still went on to perform that evening's show and was once more approached by the search rider afterward to ask if he'd thought on what she had said. Taking her aside to speak with her and his boss, Lietro explained the situation and told them of his decision, asking his boss' blessing to go to High Reaches to train as a candidate. It was granted, with much well wishing, he went to go pack, and that night he was off.

For two years, Lietro got used to stationary living and lived the candidate life, standing for the clutches that came and went before a bright little brown pranced up to him and uttered the sweetest words he had ever heard. 'There you are, LietroMine! Sorry to keep you waiting, but your Chirikuth loves you and is here now! We're going to really everyone what all we can do!' He became Li'ro that day, with the best partner he could ever hope for. Having grown accustomed the HR work ethic, weyrlinghood wasn't anything they couldn't handle. However, not long after graduating to become fully fledged wing riding pair, Thread returned. It truly was a trial by fire, a couple of Chirikuth's clutchmates didn't survive. It had been rough going, but if anything it impressed upon them the importance of what they did. Pern needed to be protected, the people needed to be protected, and that's what dragon riders were for! Li'ro and Chirikuth were happy to help lift spirits of the wounded, play songs for the fallen, offer camaraderie to those who needed it, and doing their part to protect the people who relied on them.
Other: Chirikuth belongs to Mictecath's coterie. c: And Li'ro has a blue flit that he has named Balter.

DRAGON
Name: Chirikuth
Age: 6
Color: Brown
Size: 62'
Physical Description: Coming in at the very bottom of the size range for his color, Chirikuth is a plump looking little brown, with proportionally broad wings that are a touch shorter than is average. He's not overweight nor overfed. It's almost as though he was never quite able to shake his baby fat. Regardless, it doesn't slow him down as he's still plenty agile on the wing and quite deft when moving in and around people or things on the ground. His jolly nature does lend itself to well to his roundness. He's been pretty lucky when fighting Thread, but does have a couple small threadscore scars here and there.
Personality: A fine match for his chosen rider, Chirikuth is a bubbly, chirpy brown that relishes in spending time in the company of others, while tempering some of Li'ro's rougher qualities. As social as he is, he loves snuggling up and listening or being a friend when needed. If someone is down, he will try to do what he can to brighten their mood or just spend some quiet, quality time with them until they're feeling a bit better. He tends to default to 'content and happy fellow' and wants others to feel similarly, that they're safe and loved. Chirikuth is an amenable dragon, very welcoming to all sorts of people and dragon personalities from all manner of backgrounds. Appearances don't bother him in the slightest and his merry, loving nature makes him a good companion to potentially visit the injured after harrowing threadfalls. After all, scars and injuries are just stories etched into your being to carry with you on your way. He isn't afraid of or pities those who get especially bad wounds. The wounds don't define those who receive them. It can be hard to adjust after when healing, but Chirikuth is happy to help in anyway he can.

His rider's lived a far ranging life with many experiences and tales, coupled with the histories, stories, songs, and plays from his time in the Harper Hall and as a traveling performer. That's all well and good, but Chirikuth is really quite a homebody. There's plenty of action and activity right here in HR. Thank you very much! He can hear of all sorts of places from his rider and from talking with other more adventuresome folk/dragons. He finds comfort in the familiar and, if he and His were ordered or selected to relocate to another Weyr, you can be certain he'd be milling around in a worried, listless funk upon learning of this. He was shelled in HR, all of his friends are here, he belongs to a coterie here. He's really attached to the life and stability he has in HR and doesn't fancy leaving it any time soon.

With a passionate love of music and singing, the brown enjoys putting on performances for as little as an audience of his rider or to serenade another if he's moved to do so, to playacting some fanciful tale he might have picked up or recounting an interested dream he had to whomever may be around to listen. Coupled with this, he is just a bit of a noisy dragon, all full of trills, croons, bugles, rumbles, and all other manner of noise. As much of a showman as Chirikuth is, he can be a bit oblivious to others around him if he gets really wrapped up or impassioned about what he's doing, which can cause others to chafe against him if he's inadvertently gotten under their skin. If it's brought to his attention, then he'll gladly dial back his enthusiasm or take a break for a bit, but if they snap at him or get angry/upset, the brown will sort of anxiety spiral into a worried sulk. Did he really offend them or make them super angry? Was he being that annoying or was his singing/practicing/whatever that bad? Should he go say sorry or leave them alone for a while? He didn't mean to! In such instances, he'll retreat to the company of his rider or to the safety and familiar comfort of his weyrledge, his nest/home base. Reassurances from his rider do help, but more especially so if Chirikuth gets one from the originally offended party, otherwise he may start skirting around them like a kicked puppy.

1) There are a lot of references to Terran theatre concepts in this profile which need to be changed to their Pernese counterparts. An example would be "well seasoned troupe laymen" - that's just not a concept that exists in Pern at all. I would replace that with practiced entertainer, or something of that nature.

The harper would just be a harper, not a Harper Hall alumni. Being a Harper is a lifetime rank and position. It does not take four Turns to study. Basically when you choose a craft that is essentially your future. In this case it would have changed because he was found on Search - which, by the way, he has the right to Stand if he's found on Search no matter what anyone else says. Normally people don't such much leave the Hall as they are sent journeying to other places. They could be assigned to the troupe if there was a need perceived by the Harper Hall. However, such assignments are typically (and almost always) temporary in nature.

If he's a Harper, he's a Harper, not a musician. Acting falls under the Hall as well, but he'd probably specialize in singing, performing, or acting rather than all of the above. With training he likely would have a general knowledge of the craft that would be broader in scope particularly at such an early phase of his training... but again, in most cases when you have an actor that is their focus. Clearly this group had a lot of unofficial harpers, people not Hall trained, but one thing that we haven't overemphasized is that not being Hall trained actually detrimentally affects to work in certain areas. It would be easier to entertain at the Holds if they were all Hall trained.

Maybe they could visit cotholds and so on, but Major Holds also have professional, Hall trainer entertainers and don't need to rely on traveling groups. There could be some flexibility with that, of course, but that's the more common thing.

2) It's probably better to choose between having this group as entertainers or traders, rather than having them be both. The two crafts are quite separate with very little crossover. I could envision a scenario where some traders might have been traveling with a group of entertainers in order to peddle their wares, or for protection, but having it be so balanced is a little unlikely. These people are not Romani, and that cultural touchstone does not exist on Pern.

3) The term 'boss' has a slightly different connotation on Pern: it is specifically used at places like Rivercrest, Nabol, or Bitra, and refers to something closer to a mafia boss than I think you're imagining for this backstory. The concepts of boss and coworker don't exist in the same way on Pern as they would on Earth.

4) Again, assignments are made by the Hall. In the early Turns of apprenticeship there is more flexibility regarding whether a possible apprentice stays or goes because they may be trying to figure out their futures (as above, it's a very important decision). I think he'd be given the opportunity to leave if it didn't work out for him. Either it would be his choice to leave or the Hall might encourage him to go if it didn't seem like it was a good fit. However, remaining an apprentice but then asking the entertainers if he can go back to join them seems a little unlikely.
