Samodith had been restless for...well, most of her life, by this point, with few reprieves, none of which ever lasted very long. Moments here and there, like visits with her Western family or rare glimpses of a certain other Westerner, were always over far too soon. Little else seemed to settle it in any significant way, not even when she took to the sky; though it could in some ways be an outlet for her frustrations, it was frustrating in and of itself in others, and more often than not she was quick to chase off whoever she'd chosen soon after she was done with them, though there were exceptions here and there when she would deign to allow them to linger for a bit, depending on her mood.

This evening was an exception, so far, as she had been appeased by what a certain bronze had offered - now that he was offering it again. She'd made him earn it, certainly, and hadn't exactly been gentle about it; it was only fair, after all, considering he'd been suddenly and inconveniently unavailable over the most inopportune period he possibly could have been. While it was hardly the worst of everything that had happened, it had added yet another layer to her frustration and confusion when someone else she'd thought similar to herself all of a sudden wasn't.

But now it seemed that perhaps his little foray into settling down hadn't worked out after all, and it would be a lie to say that she wasn't pleased. Samodith had been quite short on charitable thoughts for awhile now, as bitterness and frustration had gradually eaten away at them; she had tried to be better, for a time, but why? It had proven not worth the effort, so why not be selfish or even a little spiteful? She'd more than earned the right.

While Rizoth had ultimately been banned from attempting to chase any more queens during his tenure at High Reaches Weyr, the Weyr had said nothing about chasing chromatics--or even twining tails with a willing bronze who did not make the cut. It had been some time since the bronze had taken to the skies though, particularly since a certain blue and he had come to a new understanding.

Sometimes things didn't work out as one hoped, and his foray into settling down had not panned out exactly as he had hoped. Perhaps it was simply too late for him-- had he not always been happy to twine-tails with the barest of invitations? Had he not caused plenty a broken heart in his years over his Turns? He was not a young dragon, and he had sired plenty of clutches during his prime. But the hearts were a fickle thing, and while Sucurith and he had always understood one another, and shared an easy enjoyment--the young blue's hearts were as unobtainable as his own once had been.

Thankfully, Rizoth was not prone to being a sulky beast, and while it had not been what he had wished to have happen--he would not begrudge the blue his devotion or affections. They could still have fun from time-to-time if the blue wished--but a long-term romance was not either's destiny. At least not with one another.

So when a familiar green had taken to the skies, Rizoth had thrown himself into the fray. While she had left him dripping ichor, and thoroughly put through his paces, despite the competition, he persevered--and so it was, Rizoth had little intention of untwining from the green. When she wished to leave, or drive him away, so be it. For now though, he was content to savor the time they did have. She had always been a spirited dragon--and Rizoth had no expectations nor complications in regard to her flights.

Rumbling a bit with contentment, the bronze gave a small stretch of his wing, before tucking it over the green. He had always been tactile, and the evening was no exception. A fine performance, as always. He complimented.

To finally get something that she wanted, even if that something was just a renewal of having a certain bronze as a friend with benefits, was mollifying, and since she had made sure he paid his due, she was thoroughly satisfied and content to linger. No bristling, no growling, no snapping - just Samodith as she was when she was having a good day, and feeling like herself. The crawling, seething frustration with her life as it was had stilled, at least for a little while.

The bright green all but purred to be tucked under Rizoth's wing, her eye whirling with blues and purples. Thread had certainly not been kind since she'd last been cuddled up against him, nor had life or love. Her soft hide was far from flawless now, and her hearts were scarred to match... But she was fond of Rizoth, all the same. He'd been the first to catch her, not shying from her frustration or claws when things hadn't gone precisely as she'd wanted - no doubt drawing on his vast experience, he'd said and done exactly what she'd needed at the time. She had, perhaps, not quite realized it until later, when that sort of reassurance had no longer been available to her. Either way, he occupied a place not many did: she trusted and was comfortable with him, and still was. He'd made it in before life had been cruel, and she was obviously very much inclined to let him back, now that his dues had been paid.

She nuzzled into him, enjoying being well wrapped up with such a fine gentleman after being denied this particular flavor for so long. She had had a rough couple of Turns, quite frankly, and when the rare occasion came that she could actually get something she wanted, well, she would absolutely take it, and without shame.

I'm glad to see you haven't slowed down at all, she replied, lightly teasing, though she left up in the air whether it was in reference to his age or his foray into one-and-only territory where he'd not had to compete. Either way, he'd clearly not lost his edge.

Rizoth didn't begrudge the scars he now sported, nor did he find Samodith any less charming even down an eye, and battle scarred. He was no spring wherry himself, after all -- though he also had spent much of his life without the worries, concerns, and burdens that all dragons hatched now had to carry. Had Thread been around when he was but a weyrling, it was very possible he wouldn't still be alive. He'd been spoiled in terms of timing... and he respected the young dragons of the Weyr that already had lost life, and limb, to their Enemy.

It wasn't fair--but life rarely was--and that was something Rizoth well knew.

He kept the green tucked gently beneath his wing, and gave a soft croon at her nuzzle, eyes whirling a pleasant blue-purple. She was very small compared to him--but Rizoth could appreciate a dragon of any color, shape, or size. It was that appreciation that caused him all sorts of problems, especially during his younger Turns--but he was glad Samodith at least was till in possession of good taste. I can still fly circles around my competition--which you very well witnessed. I might be older, but some things are certainly worth putting in the effort. Samodith, it seemed, was one of them.

It had been some time since he'd last graced her ledge, and he was not unaware that it was her choice, and her choice alone, that allowed him there. A good distraction... a much needed one, really--but that was what Rizoth was good at doing. Distracting himself from things that might be otherwise unpleasant; focus on something good, and forget about pain, despair, or more complicated and unpleasant feelings. Perhaps it wasn't healthy, but it worked for him--and it was easy to put aside thoughts of another with such fierce and fun company.

You're looking radiant as ever--and it's not just the glow of a flight, I dare say.
