Phryana could only marvel at how Kleoth continued to grow wider and wider over time. She’d never been privileged enough to really see a gravid gold before, and her queen now moved ponderously whenever she roused herself from her sand wallow. Despite the awkwardness of her round body, there was a gentleness to Kleoth’s spirit that made her shine. She had grown more affectionate, and, much to Phryana’s dismay, more inclined to become extremely invested in the lives of young Candidates. The larger she grew, the more she wanted to mother everyone and anyone she spotted. Still, how could Phryana not be proud? Kleoth had flown well, in her biased opinion, and her clutch would be extraordinary no matter what.
It was late at night when Kleoth woke her, her eyes whirling gently with hues of purple and blue. It is time. Was all she said, and Phryana needed no further explanation to leave her bed. The gold chose to walk rather than fly to the Hatching Sands, for getting herself up into the air was an enormous effort these days. There was a restlessness to her now as she raked at the ground here and there, circling as though trying to determine where the very best spot would be to lay. Phryana settled herself near the edge to watch, staying quiet so as to not interfere. She was grateful that Kleoth instinctively knew what to do, feeling as though she’d be quite useless if it was up to her to assist.
After a few more moments of pacing, the dragon began to lay. It was a much longer process than Phryana would have thought, with Kleoth having ample time to fuss over each individual egg before another would arrive. By the time she had finished, Phryana wagered it was early in the morning… though still too dark for dawn. The tired, proud queen laid protectively around her clutch, curled about them until the tips of her tail nearly touched her nose. Come see, beloved. She bade her rider, carefully shifting herself so the woman could approach. Phryana did not bother to hide her awe and wonder as she approached, admiring the still soft shells.
"They’re beautiful." She murmured, reaching her hands up to tenderly touch Kleoth’s muzzle. "Well done, my love." The word would be spreading about the eggs if it wasn’t already, though whether or not she would receive visitors was solely up to the gold.
Kleoth exhaled gently against her rider’s hands before she reached out to one specific dragon. She did not speak as she presented Pipith with an image of the newly laid clutch, her thoughts warm and gentle. Though his presence was neither required nor wanted upon the sands, he would be welcome to observe from the ledges above if he so desired. She nosed again at the eggs, carefully positioning them until she deemed herself satisfied. Hello, my darlings. It was a murmur as she mentally brushed each one with all the love her hearts were capable of. It is so good to see you at last.

Welcome to Kleoth's Colorful Clutch
Welcome to Kleoth's Clutching Thread! This is where we'll be introducing Western Weyr's newest clutch to the world. This is a special time for the Weyr, as baby dragons are always cause for a celebration. The clutch appears healthy and strong, and now it's only a matter of time for the Weyr to prepare for the new life!
This clutch is conventional for Western. Bronze Pipith flew valiantly and was chosen to sire this clutch by his sheer strength and power. The entire Weyr will be celebrating this new batch of life, and givign their congratulation's to Kleoth, Pipith, and Theirs. Candidates are going to be on edge as now it's the final countdown to a Hatching and the chance to Impress. Because High Reaches is expecting a clutch themselves, both Weyrs have decided not to swap this time. They will celebrate singularly, as in the days of old! The only guests allowed are by invitation only, or immediate family of a Candidate.
ICly, the Touching will happen about a few sevendays later, when the eggs are harder than they are now. The Hatching will happen a few sevendays after the official Touching. OOCly, we'll handwave the exact timeline it takes from clutching to Hatching for the sake of flow--and what works best on Staff's schedules. The same goes with High Reaches clutch! For staff's sanity we may delay Mictecath's clutch simply to allow some IRL breathing room for everyone. Eggs can be fickle things, and all dates are approximate averages; some clutchings and hatchings happen later than others.
OOCly, we're going to dive right in so get those last-minute Candidates cranked out because matching dergs is officially happening! Make sure you sign them up in the Candidate Signup Thread! While you're there, make sure everything's up-to-date! We may well have more eggs than Candidates this time around, so if you happen to have the itch to write some more, or recruit a friend, we're keen for it! Whether all the babies match is another question -- but we'll find homes for them all, one way or another! |
