Name: Alis
Age: 15
Nameday: 3562.03.04
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Hasn't really thought on it.
Craft: n/a - Drudge
Rank: n/a
Location: HRW
Physical Description: Alis is a petite girl, only coming in at 4'10" tall with a lean build and coltish legs. She has fair skin, elbow length light ash blonde hair with a faint wave, and friendly blue eyes. Day to day she styles her hair completely differently, even doing subtle variations on a favored style between days, everything from just loose to all manner of plaits, braids, twists, updos, and all sorts of combos there of. Her usual clothes are often oversized, kind of worn hand-me-downs that typically edge on masculine or androgynous. She'll patch, repair, or rework pieces that are starting to wear out. As such, she can look younger or more frail than she actually is, or a bit like a ragamuffin if she's been hard at work. Alis can clean up nicely when she's needs or wants to, but honestly she doesn't exactly want to stand out or draw attention to herself in Bitra, especially considering some of her personal goings on.
Personality: The phrase 'still waters run deep' is quite fitting for Alis. Be it due to her own innate nature or from the station she's found herself in life, but she typically has a quiet, dour air to her. Not terribly inclined to join in conversation unless she's spoken to first or if she knows that it's a sort of open invitation for speakers, taciturn Alis plays things close to her vest. Her thoughts and feelings are her own and she's slow to disclose if absolutely pressed. She will sit on her grudges for a long time and those she harbors them for are not likely to be aware of them. She has an excellent memory for names and things that are said.

She may be reticent to leap into conversing, but she will absolutely happily listen in to the chatter going on around her. It's easy enough for drudges to go under folks' radar, plus her being petite tends to put her under people's eyeline. If there is some juicy gossip going around, Alis likely knows who it's from, who it's about, and who all has been spreading the word. She's not a gossip. No indeed! Knowledge is power and it's all about knowing. She doesn't trust the first time she hears a thing, but if she hears the same thing a few times over, and she will do a spot of homework, then she'll believe a thing to be true, or at least of note.

Of course, sometimes the things she hears or susses out will alarm her or strike to the heart of her sense of morality, her sense of justice. If she's quite certain something is so, if it strikes her as fishy, potentially dangerous, or truly not agreeable, Alis will make a point to quietly find a way to jot down an anonymous note and leave it in such a place that the one most likely to be negatively effected will likely find it. Be it a warning, what she's heard, or whom to look out for. [Example: She hears from a few different sources that X is stealing marks or is otherwise doing something shady from/to Y. She'll see that an anonymous note will be left where Y can find it. Be in someplace in their weyr, tucked amongst their gear, etc.] She'll wait until larger draws of people to go about her little missions. Events, gathers, meal times especially, but Alis will also make notes of frequent vacancies or breaks in occupancy. With everything that's happen after her mother passed, Alis is incensed with her father and Bitra in general. She hates what it can do to people and she's got it set in her mind that she'll try to make even a little difference when and where she can, to try to get out if she is able. Alis is pretty conflict averse and will take great pains to make sure she'll get in and out unscathed. After all, there is only so much protection her stature, physically and in the Bitra hierarchy, can afford her. She is intent on not being caught slacking...or taking sharing knowledge into her own hands. Bitra has every potential to be dangerous and, while she won't stop doing what she does, she'll be damned if she won't take great pains to be careful.
Positive Trait List Strong sense of right and wrong/justice, cautious, independent, driven
Negative Trait List Busybody, meddlesome, holds grudges, taciturn
History: Alis is the second child born to a couple of runnercrafters in Keroon Hold, her brother being four at the time of her arrival. Around the time she turned four, her parents took jobs in Bitra for training and caring for the runners there. Since her elder brother had turned eight a little before their parents getting the word of their transfer and he had also developed a love and interest for the beasties from the occasional times he tagged along to work with their folks, so he opted to stay in Keroon to properly begin his apprenticeship training in the craft. Two turns on, not long after her sixth nameday, and there was a tragic accident. One of the runners spooked and her mother ended up getting trampled. She held on for a couple of sevendays before she passed away due to the extent of her injuries. This was a tragedy that shook the family to its core. Her dad spiraled in his grief and started drowning his sorrows in the easy entertainments of Bitra, especially with gambling. In relatively short order, he got very much into debt.

To answer for his accrued debts, the lord holder stripped him of his rank and put what remained of the little family in Bitra into drudgery to work toward paying back what he owed. Five turns later, Alis, aged eleven, was working as a drudge, sometimes alongside her father, sometimes off on her own or with other drudges doing whatever was she was told to do. Her brother, now fifteen, came to Bitra accompanying a journeyman runnercrafter. He had been told of their mother's passing but this was the first time he was in the same place as his sister and father. The lad never seemed to see their father around the stables, paddocks, and arenas. Alis finally caught up with her brother and, after being asked where their dad was, what all she was up to, she filled him in on what all happened after their mother died, their dad's solace seeking gambling, his being stripped of his rank and their being put to work as drudges to pay off the debts that he had gotten.

Her delivery of this news was matter of fact though edging into terse with the familiarity of speaking to her brother. She admitted she didn't spend much time with their father. Drudgery was busy work. For all her simmering resentment and anger, she was somewhat comforted by the proximity of her elder sibling, almost as though he was a reminder of Pern at large. Places away from the grief and anger that Bitra had brought out in her, away from the frustration and keen displeasure she felt toward their father. Over time she decided that she'd do what little things she could to right some of the wrongs of Bitra, to warn or share what information she gathered in her comings and goings. Alis will try to find a way to pass the word along to the appropriate parties for something to be done. She knows that it's a potentially risky enterprise she's taken upon herself, but she feels something has to be done. There's violence, corruption, and apathy underlying the distractions and entertainments that there are available and she hates what it can do to those who aren't careful. Her goal was to get out of Bitra, to get away from the sorrowful memories, from her father's mistakes, to not end up in a brothel or otherwise consumed by the easy outs that were oh so easy to come by. Fortunately for her, a little after her fourteenth nameday, a searchrider pair had been passing through and the bluerider flagged her down saying that their bondmate had a good feeling that she had the makings of a candidate, that if she was interested, they could take her to High Reaches Weyr, where they originally hailed from.

Alis hadn't realized she had stopped breathing until her burning lungs caused her to gasp for a deep breath. "Y-yes. Yes, please. I'd be so honored to accompany you back. Thank you, thank you so much! Will you be here, right here? I can get what I need in short order and come right back." The searchrider said that they'd be right there and they'd be waiting for her. Alis hurried back to her place, jotted a quick note down for her father, a somewhat more in depth note for her brother, left them where they could be found, collected the few meager possessions she had with some clothes, and hurried back to where the rider and their blue bondmate were waiting for them. It almost felt too good to be true and she wasn't willing to dilly dally lest her luck ran out, or if this all was all some fleeting dream. Regardless, she wasn't about to test this. In short order, off Alis went to start her candidacy in High Reaches. The work really wasn't bad and she didn't mind the schedule. She wanted to show them that she was worth everything that HR offered her. Even if it didn't work out, if there wasn't a dragon in her future, she could start anew, pick up a craft. Worse came to worse, she could work as a drudge in High Reaches, it wasn't Bitra, and that alone was enough.
Other: She's ambidextrous and she will use her left when writing her anonymous notes and the right for any general writing she may do. She is not remotely squeamish.

Before I can even begin to QC Allis's personality, I need to explain that her history does not work at all. Lord Holders do not have the ability to strip a crafter of their rank within a craft. Furthermore, if the father was in that type of situation, the Crafthall itself may very well have taken care of him, have paid off the debt.

Furthmore, Bitra is not Nabol Hold. If the father was starting to spiral into debt, they wouldn't just have continued to accept him into gambling rings because they want to make their marks. Also, the Lord Holder would likely not be personally involved with the goings on of a crafter. The loan sharks might try to extort him for his marks or other things, but ultimately he is under the protection of the Crafthall.

Worst case scenario, they would write his master(s) and/or the Crafthall and basically demand payment or restitution. Under no circumstances would a Lord Holder be permitted to put a crafter and his family into drudgery. Unlike Nabol, where the Lord Holder is exceptionally corrupt as are his people, there are rules and laws that determine how these things will fall out.

If you do want something similar to take place, you would need to move this to Nabol and then make them not crafters because even Nabol is not able to do that to official craftmasters and journeymen. Lord Gansley can and will do that to his people, however... as will a number of holders beneath his domain.

Ping me on Discord if you want any help in tweaking this. As it stands I cannot approval the profile.

I think you have the wrong idea about Bitra - as shady of a place as it is, there are still rules and regulations. There are still limitations to what can be done.

I would question if she has the background that you want her to have whether she's able to write the notes in the first place. When and how did she learn to write? Where and how is she getting the resources to leave these notes? What materials is she using?

Also, hierarchy and rank are normal across all of Pern. Every Hold, every Weyr has a hierarchy that is very much entrenched within its culture. This is a normal part of life and something that is completely unavoidable on Pern. Unlike Earth, there aren't concepts of equality or equity. Western Weyr is a failed experiment in that which can be seen in who the ranking people and dragons actually are, and how poorly they do at Threadfall. I'm confused by the focus on Bitran hierarchy.

Please see a snippet from our blurb about Bitra Hold:

"Unlike Nabol where there is a distinct lack of middle class, Bitra has entertainment for all lifestyles."

Pernese hierarchy may be unclear - we're working on a guide for that.
