First and foremost, Sky is extremely protective of her family and friends. From watching her brother get sick, to their lives get turned upside down, Sky has vowed to do everything in their power to keep those she loves safe and happy.... by any means available.

xxxxx⇾Oᴘᴛɪᴍɪsᴛɪᴄ:
Despite life being a near-constant stream of hospitals, doctors, and tests, Skyla's always tried to remain optimistic. Her brother wasn't nearly as sick as he could be, her parents managed to keep their home afloat... and hey, she still had her family to count on. Luckily, despite the several bursts of bad luck, there always seemed to be a bubble of good.

xxxxx⇾Eɴᴇʀɢᴇᴛɪᴄ:
Sky has always been an incredibly active child. From play fighting with Torin to her constant need to be in motion, Sky has usually found productive ways of getting her energy out. Unfortunately, it backfires any time she's got to stay cooped up and still.

xxxxx⇾Qᴜɪᴄᴋ-Tᴇᴍᴘᴇʀᴇᴅ:
Skyla is well known to go from 0-100 really quickly. She typically flares her temper when her protectiveness is triggered, but she can also snap in other situations. Bullies beware. Though as she's gotten older, Skyla has learned to tamp down her explosive temper. While it's still there, she can at least hold it back to prevent damage to friendships or other situations.

xxxxx⇾Iɴᴏ̨ᴜɪsɪᴛɪᴠᴇ:
Sky has always been the type to ask "why". She loves to know how things work, and if someone tries presenting solid logic, she'll do her best to pick it apart in ways she can best get all the information. She also loves to be hands-on, and her curiosity leads to some interesting places.

xxxxx⇾Cᴏᴍᴘᴇᴛᴇᴛɪᴠᴇ:
Typically against Torin, Skyla is incredibly competitive. Before he was wheel-bound, the two would duke it out, play soccer, or do sprints. Afterward, they took to wheels, with her using skates, her skateboard, or even her bike. Luckily, her twin matched her competitive nature, so they both had fun. There may or may not have been sore losers from time to time, though.

Skyla is the younger twin born to Aldis and Faina Byrnes. She and her older twin, Torin, were better friends than most other kids with siblings, so she liked it a lot. As they got out of toddler-hood, both kids chose different athletic activities. She chose gymnastics, while Torin went for soccer. When they were in year two, Torin got really sick and collapsed in class. Luckily, Skyla was right there to alert everyone for help. He was taken to the hospital, where they did a whole bunch of tests. Apparently he was really sick and had a tumor on his spine. After they did a surgery, he was healthy, but wouldn't be able to walk anymore.

It was hard on the family, trying to rearrange their entire life to accommodate Torin's new needs. It also involved a lot of tests for Skyla, making sure she wasn't sick too. Luckily, she was spared, though ended up in fear of doctors, mostly for using needles to take her blood a lot. After Torin recovered, the kids found ways to continue their active competitions, usually her on her bike versus Torin's wheels. Despite their parents' best attempts to hide their new stresses, Skyla knew that everything was different now. This led her to developing her protective nature, though it also led to her being fairly dependent on her various family members.


xxx𝒮𝒸𝒽𝑜𝑜𝓁 𝒴𝑒𝒶𝓇𝓈xxx
School started off super great. Skyla and Torin were sorted into Gryffindor together, and continued using their competitiveness to help in both classes and activities. Sky and Torin raced to the pitch the day of tryouts, and both put in the work to make the team. The twins seemed to be perpetually close, always fighting to grow and make each other better. Between late-night Wizard's Chess tournaments and Gobstones matches, and homework and class catch-up.

As the years went on, the twins kept close, while also learning to branch out. Skyla made her own friends. Karah and Skyla loved talking nerdy, especially with debates about the Star Wars series. Galen for Magical Creatures studying and extra Quidditch practice. Aurais for fencing practice and language studying, though he didn't speak, the two got along quite well.

As the summer after fourth year came to roll in, Skyla found herself with occasional weakness in her joints. She played it off at first, but when she collapsed hard enough to hit her head, Mom got nervous and took her to the Children's Hospital where Torin had always been treated. They ran some tests, but ultimately didn't come up with a medical reason. So Sky was released, and off the twins went to Hogwarts once more. This year, working together was a bit more difficult, since Torin had Vice Captain duties on the Quidditch Side and both had a mountain of Exams to study for.

Shortly before winter break of fifth year, Skyla collapsed in Astronomy class, and it seemed a nightmare to catch her breath. To the Hospital Wing she went, then over break it was right back in the hospital for more tests. Finally, they tentatively said she may have a myotonic dystrophy, though they weren't quite sure. With some sort of answer, the family continued on, and Sky promised to be extra careful as she went back to school. The stress seemed to make her body hurt more, but she kept pushing on to keep working. She had too many responsibilities to give up now.

The next summer, she had a 3-day trip to the hospital so they could run a slew of tests. After that round (and a lot of anger), they changed their diagnosis to JPM, Juvenile Polymyositis. Basically she'd just have to watch out for muscle weakness, especially since it could also spell issues eating, breathing, and talking. All were scary, but Sky started Physical Therapy while also trying to be a normal teenager. She hung out with friends whenever possible, while also trying to play off any issues so no one would think her incapable of doing her favorite activities.

Once Sixth year started, Skyla reduced some of her classes to try and make her workload a bit more manageable. Her big focus was to help Captain Aria League and Torin win the season for Gryffindor. She had a successful catch, then was beaten in the second game. All her stress saved up for the final game. She was in a tricky position. Her team needed 4 goals plus her catching the Snitch, while the rival team simply needed to catch. Instead, Skyla got hit twice, almost back to back. Then she made a risky call and caught the snitch before Syd could do so. Half of Gryffindor seemed sympathetic, but Skyla also caught a lot of flack for not waiting until their team caught up enough to win the season. Luckily, neither Aria nor Torin seemed upset. Skyla had to be in the Hospital Wing for nearly a week following the game.

As soon as Sixth Year let out, Sky had a hard fall and hit her head really hard on her way down. That lead her to a 2 week long hospital stay where they took every sort of test, along with several muscle biopsies. It also became the place she learned to hate MRIs and CT scans.
