The sand glowed, but not as much as Mictecath. Bowing her head to the vibrant shells, she cared for and nuzzled each one in turn, tidying wallows where the sand didn't sit just so, occasionally coping over a twitch or a shudder. They'd truly spent glorious stretches of time as a family, Mictecath shooting her bronze partner loving glances as she reminisced over the stories and songs that had filled the grounds. He had been an exceptionally doting father, and the most assiduous of hosts. Family had come and visited, the Queen introducing the myriad of aunties, uncles and cousins who filled her hearts with love.

But an especially vigorous jerk caused her to lift her head, a deep hum blossoming in the depths of her soul. Oh, my sweet little darlings, my precious children… You are ready to meet the world… She drew herself a little taller, whuffing warm air over the clutch. Remember, no matter what, your mama will always be here should you need it. My wings are yours. How dearly, how desperately she yearned to bundle them all up into her waiting arms, and cuddle them all until the sun set upon the world.

As it was, Mictecath had to settle for watching her children discover a world at sunset, as the last of the afternoon's busy-ness faded away, and tense anticipation hung thick and heavy in the air. She was joined quickly enough by Iweth, who never wandered far when duty did not demand it, the slight bronze deftly picking his way to her side and butting his head against hers, eyes awhirl with brilliant dapples of blue and purple. He could not withhold his musical croon, notes of pure joy swirling out to their children before deepening into the resonant hum of hatching-song.

Come then, come, precious little loves—mama and papa are right here, waiting to meet you, and share the world with you! All the songs and stories you could ever want, I promise you that. There is so much to experience, and all of it simply stupendous! Come meet your matches, and bring them into our family!

General Hatching Information

Welcome to High Reaches Weyr's sixth (and the shop's tenth) PC Hatching! We want to thank everyone for participating in this shop and giving it so much life! Mr Cheri and I wouldn't be here without you, so thank you for sticking around. That said, we do want to go over some general rules (IC and OOC) and reminders so this Hatching can be a success!

General Information & Rules
  • Not every Candidate or Player is going to Impress. Please, please, please don't get too discouraged or upset if that is the case. We only have a limited number of pets to give away, and honestly tried to find the best fit for each dragon. There will be other Hatchings, I promise. gaia_star Many, many, many other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if Staff impresses a dragon. We try not to take away from the players fun, but staff are also players, too. Any dragons that might go to staff were either customed-in behind the scenes or chosen simply because their Candidate was the best fit. As stated above, there will be other Hatchings.

  • Please don't get upset if your Candidate does not Impress to your preferred color. Just like in Pern, nobody could ever guess whether or not a Candidate Impressed, much less a certain color. This is supposed to be fun, not some sort of tragedy. If you don't like the dragon that we fit to your Candidate you absolutely cannot rehome it or give it away. Additionally, if you throw a fit about it and we find out, or you discourage other players, this could bar you from future Hatchings. We honestly tried very hard to match Candidates with characters so the fit mad sense.

  • Don't discourage others or vent at them if they Impress (or don't Impress) a dragon or certain color. If we hear about players giving other players crap for their Impression, we can bar you from future Hatchings. There will be other characters, other Hatchings, and other opportunities for all! Please keep this fun and support one another, not tear folks apart.

  • We really, really, really, really loved all of your Candidates! No really, Cheri and I hemmed and hawed for days. In some cases, Candidates may not have Impressed because we have ideas for particular colors or personalities for them. If you do not Impress, we are aware, and we have big ideas for the future. Please give us a chance and be patient.

  • IC Action = IC Consequence. If you role-play in the Hatching and your Candidate does something stupid, remember that ICly there could be hell to pay. If a dragon doesn't maul you, then A'ral could very well pull you from the Sands. Please don't make A'ral do that. Additionally, regardless of whether or not you signed your character up for death or maiming or not, if you do something stupid ICly, the shop has a right to respond accordingly, and that includes death. Please, don't put us in that position.

  • We will hatch all the PC eggs and play the hatchlings until they Impress. Once they Impress, they will be the players to control. We will quote folks in the Hatching Sands, but also PM them the dragonets profile.

  • The Hatching Thread will likely peter off after the last egg Impresses. We may not close it officially so folks can RP in the thread as needed. Also, please, once you Impress, continue to RP in the Hatching Thread! It gets kind of sad and unfortunate when, at the end of Hatchings, only a few stragglers are RPing in it. :c We would love to have everyone feel included, including those who don't Impress or who are posting on the Sands actively.

  • New Rule: We would absolutely love it if folks REFRAINED from immediately plotting their baby dragonets until ALL THE EGGS ARE HATCHED. We don't want people who Impress near the end to miss out on plots or bonding with others. There will be plenty of time for plots after the Hatching has ended! It's okay to RP with folks, or talk about your bbs, but just... try not to immediately line them up with plot ideas or story ideas well before the last egg has hatched.

  • Everybody is encouraged to participate! Bring your weyrfolk and holdfolk to watch by having them sit in the Sands and cheer. Candidates, whether they were at the Touching or not, should be on the Sands an will be assumed to have arrived regardless if you have time to post them. Dragons can perch on ledges to watch the newest babies, and comment to one another. Guests and visitors will be flown in -- from mighty Holders to the families of those hold- and craftbred Candidates. Come one, come all -- even the lower cavern workers, while some might have volunteered to help behind the scenes for extra pay, are also encouraged to watch if they wish. It's up to you! This is a time for celebration.

  • This is for High Reaches Weyr only! The only Western guests will be those who have direct family as Candidates! i.e. brother, sister, son, daughter, etc.

  • There will not be a PC Hatching Feast thread -- nobody ever RPs much in them so the celebration can continue either in the Hatching Thread or you may make your own private, personal Feast threads.

  • This Hatching takes place in the early morning--rise and shine! This means the Fest will happen immediately after the Hatching.

IC Rules & General Information
  • Candidates can get mauled, so they have been told time and time again to stay out of the dragonets way! If they are attacked, they are to try to cover their head and protect their vulnerable bits, but should not really fight back. That might upset it further.

  • Guests and visitors CANNOT walk on the Sands--they must sit in the tiers. Those who arrive late will be ushered to seats closest to the entrance, or asked to stand at the entrance itself, or just wait outside. Any person who is not a Candidate that tries to get on the Sands will be removed, unless (of course) a dragon is attempting to get to you. Healers are allowed onto the Sands to carry fallen Candidates back once it's safe to do so.

  • Unaffiliated riders, non-High Reaches Weyr natives, and crafters not living at High Reaches Weyr ARE NOT allowed unless they actually have a reason to be there. This includes being an invited guest (usually Journeyman or Masters of renown that have something to offer the Weyr), of prominent family lines (they do love their Holders), happen to be dating someone who lives at the Weyr and are their guest, or you happen to be going because an immediate family member is on the Sands as a Candidate. That's it. Most of Pern never, ever, gets to see a Hatching so they are meant to be special when folks do go. They're not open for just anyone to come into willy-nilly.

  • Do not break into eggs! Period. If an egg needs to be broken into, the shop will make it VERY clear.

  • Candidates are asked to arrive on the Sands with a thin pair of sandals-- no boots or heavy soled shoes! The Sands are hot, so standing from foot-to-foot is common.

  • Candidates will be brought to the Hatching Sands by F'dral. Should they Impress, they will take their dragons outside of the Hatching Sands entrance, where Weyrlingmaster Liat and her assistants will have prepared meat to feed them, and have buckets of oil and brushes to scrub them once fed. Baby dragons tend to eat a lot, and tend to itch a lot as their skin dries. The new weyrlings belongings will be moved from the Candidate Barracks to the Weyrling Barracks by drudges and lower cavern's workers as needed.

  • Visitors and guests are invited to stay for the Hatching feast and riders will bring them home when finished.

Any other questions? PM Uta or Mr Cheri! With that, welcome to the Hatching!!

The sun was setting and evening settling into the Weyr when the humming began. Everyone knew what that meant, and he was quick to leave his office and supervise the Candidates. "Hurry and wash!" He ordered any Candidates who tried to immediately change. It was important to get the Candidates onto the Sands, and swiftly, but he would not allow them to go onto the Sands dirty or a mess. For some of the Candidates, they would be embarking on a new life with a new dragon at their side. At minimum, they would be scrubbed and cleaned from the day's work before meeting them, thank you.

By the time the Candidates were ready and marched to the Hatching Grounds, the tiers were already full of eager guests and weyrfolk. Dragons of all colors and sizes were settled on the stony outcroppings and ledges, and the humming which reverberated around the cavern was almost overwhelming. There was a tension on the air that was a mix of excitement, fear, and anticipation. Stopping at the mouth of the entrance, F'dral turned to the Candidates with a stern expression. "Keep your thoughts happy, welcoming, and kind. Remember, this is your day to represent High Reaches as both a Candidate and potential rider. Keep your chin up, and don't be afraid. Good luck."

The expectation of course was that they knew what to do. It would be a hard night for some of them, but for the rest, their lives would be changed forever.

Shekkeh, she/her

It was time. Shekkeh had taken lessons on behavior and what was expected of candidates to heart since she had arrived, but even moreso after the Touching. This was so much bigger than she could have ever dreamt, and she wanted to be at her very best, and hoped to find her destiny out on the sands. If not at this hatching then in the future.

There was enough warning that she didn't feel compelled to simply throw on the whites and her sandals. No, she would take the time to be presentable. Which meant running a brush through her hair and straightening her robes to ensure they were as wrinkle free as could be.

She followed the candidates and candidate master. She wasn't at the very front of the line, nor was she at the rear. It would not do to be too eager or too lassaiz-faire.

She paid her respects to Mictecath and Iweth as was proper, and took her place on the Sands.

Dextelia She/Her

With her meal finished for the night Dextelia had gone into the barracks after cleaning up from the chores of the day. The young girl was ready to relax for a few moments, to take that time to think to herself but it seemed there were plans put into place by others.

The sound of humming had her sitting up quickly, stopping and pausing for a moment as she could feel her adrenaline start to surge in her muscles. F'dral's voice booming out was the catalyst Dextelia needed to break the suspension she had found herself in for a moment. Her movements were quick as she began to change, pulling on the white robes for the occasion and then slipping into the sandals. She was in the middle of braiding her black hair as she joined the other candidates, finishing just in time to bow to Mictecath and Iweth before moving to find a spot to stand in on the sands.

Texiar She/Her

Texiar had been walking towards the kitchens to grab a quick snack. She had spent most of the day outside, her duties for the day being to clean the herd beasts pens. She grabbed a piece of bread that was available, taking a bite before holding it in her mouth as she walked and let her attention move to look at those around her. She was taking her time walking back, enjoying being out like this.

She had been nearing the barracks, having finished what she had grabbed when the humming started. Tex knew exactly what to do and went to her cot, moving to grab everything, she was slipping the robes on when F'dral spoke out and reminded them to clean up. It was because of his words that Tex remembered to do that, her excitement making her forget that for a moment. Quickly washing her hands and face, she ran her fingers through her hair to brush it through them before rushing from the barracks.

Nearing the hatching grounds, Tex slowed her pace down as she neared the other candidates gathering. Bowing to the parents she moved to find a place to stand upon the sands, her eyes watching the eggs and looking for any movement.

Kahbrohm

It was his turn - Kahbrohm could feel a certain impatience well up in him as he washed up. He tried to use the time to clear his head, force steadiness into his thoughts. There was no forcing impression, there was no rushing it....but he was tired of standing so far away from an imaginary starting line while his brother ran off ahead of him.

He wanted to be in the race.

Kahbrohm swallowed down his irritation by the time he walked onto the sands, replacing it with that oozing confidence he wore so well all the time. He wasn't a fool and he would temper his expectations - happy was perhaps a stretch, but his thoughts would lean positive. Positive that he was the right match for one of these dragonets and they would know him for it.

"Got any thoughts on any of these?" he asked Jihiro as he picked a spot - front, but not quite center, to keep a good eye on all the action.

----

Cetra

Cetra didn't mind cleaning up, being presentable was important, but good hygiene would keep her in a better mood than she would have been in if she felt sticky and gross the entire time. Didn't these little ones deserve to meet them at their finest? Or at least as close as one could be to such?

Her fortunately short hair was at least half dry as she, along with the rest of her fellows, made their way out onto the sands - parents greeted, eggs watched with tentative anticipation. Her eyes lingered on one egg she'd made friendly with in particular, curious to see what it would be.

-----

Midrymear

Midrymear was all swagger - he knew he was hot stuff and he carried himself thusly. It didn't take him long to make himself presentable and get changed, nor did he make a point of standing too close to the front. He could see everything going on without too much pomp or fuss.

He settled in, alone, looking none too worried about his fate for that day - he'd be judged worthy or unworthy and he'd take what he got from that and continue on to become better either way. There would be plenty to see whether they were all ready or not.

----

Beelim

Beelim was all nerves - he'd stood for several clutches by now, so it wasn't due to a lack of knowing how to handle himself, but rather that each clutch was so... different. One of the previous had ....well, he wouldn't worry about that. Beelim was, after all, too sweet and kind to purposely upset a baby and if one even looked at Besilin, he'd have thrown himself into harm's way for his twin.

Which was who he looked for once it was time to head out onto the sands, more than content to fall into step with him as they found the perfect spot. "You excited?" he asked, a small tremble of anticipation in his voice.

Faesinger
Brother!

----

Lihyo

Being told to clean up before she headed out onto the sands seemed practical and Lihyo had no problems following such orders. To be presentable, to be ready to greet a potential future. They represented the finest (questionable, in her eyes) of Pern and they were to behave so. She would at least walk the walk.

But she didn't make eyes at any egg in particular, nor seek out familiar faces as she found a spot to stand, wait, and watch. No, wait.... her eyes glanced off towards the stands, seeking out a familiar blue or perhaps some blur of colors she'd be able to place as said blue's rider. But it only lasted a moment, then...she was all eyes on what was to come next.

----

Draza

"Ohhhh!" Draza was already prepared to be conspiratorial whispers with her sister even as she went to wash up - she'd been one of those eager to simply change into her Hatching Whites (tm) before F'dral had urged them all to be clean first. If anybody was thoroughly clean, it wasn't Draza. She was presentably so, of course, and at least had the mind to wait for Melka before they, as the rest of the candidates, made their way out to the sands to see if perhaps that day would be theirs.

"What do you think, Melka?" Draza knew a good Touching didn't mean anything, but sometimes it did and she wanted to know what her sister thought of her chances.

They all had good chances, of course, but....

Besilin - He/him

Besilin heard the humming start up and increase in volume around the Weyr as dragons took up the song. As the volume increased so did the excitement inside him. The babies were coming. He sprinted for the barracks and changed as fast as possible. In the thin candidate robe and sandals he made his way towards the Sands, all the while looking for his twin. He bowed to the queen and moved off to the left. Spotting Beelim as they entered he made sure to fall in step with him. "Maybe a little." He admitted. “Are you ready?” He joked. As if they weren’t.

We think alike!

Heleste - She/her

OooooooOooooh boy! Here we go. Heleste practically vibrated as the humming began. Already in the barracks she was ready in a flash and out the door. Listening to F’dral she tried, and failed, to keep from moving in her excitement. She bowed and quickly stationed herself somewhere she could see as much as possible.

Divisti - She/her

Divisti was calm as she approached the Sands, dressed in the candidate robe and flimsy sandals. She knew the routine by now and was also knew that getting over excited wouldn’t help in any way. Still there was a small tendril of something resembling excitement as she bowed and moved onto the Sands.

Lusialu
The Hatching was here and Lusialu's heart was in her throat. There was a certain thrill about getting to meet Mictecath's darlings, a desire and hope that maybe, just maybe, one of them would seek her to call her their own. But there was also a trepidation and fear. Anakumath's hatching had resulted in failing to Impress, but also, injury among the Candidates. Grave injury, at that. And her very first Hatching, Rhianth and Fianths, had resulted in a Candidate being killed!

What had happened those times was par for the course as far as Candidacy was concerned, but it hadn't just been jarring to witness--it had affected her friendships, too. Now that she was preparing to step onto the hot Sands once more, she couldn't help but wonder what would happen. Hopefully, things would go smoothly, with no fights, no injuries, and no trauma. She wanted today to be a good day, and not one full of fear and trepidation. The Hatchlings deserved that much, and she knew she shouldn't live in the past.

Today was a new day, and the future could be bright.

Lusialu lingered, wanting to march onto the Sands with Oranie. She did offer her friend's hand a squeeze, before stepping foot onto the hot Sands and pretending that there weren't hundreds of pairs of eyes on all of them. Scrutinizing. Judging. Thankfully, it didn't matter what the spectators thought, but the dragonets... But that still didn't make it less intimidating. Her mother was up there, watching. Alumet and Yunara, both gold riders, were there. C'lusi would be there, with his weyrmates. Would she be disappointed yet again?

Bowing low before Mictecath and Iweth, Lusialu hesitated just long enough so she might walk with Oranie. "Thank you for standing with me," she spoke, hoping Oranie knew how sincere she was. There was no Elibrie or Kinye to stand with, and the past nine months had been terribly hard. Not just for her, but Oranie as well. "Maybe today will be our day though, yeah?" She asked softly, looking over to the eggs, curious as to which one would wobble first.

At present, they all seemed rather still.

Tsunake
Hope you don't mind friendtime!

Melka
Another Hatching and Mictecath's at that! She remembered the little gold when she first broke shell, and felt honored to be standing among the throng of Candidates for her very first Hatching. She was clean, she was in her white robes, and she had her sister with her -- what more could she possibly want?

Okay, yes, she did want a dragon, and could only imagine what wonderful adventures she might get up to with the most perfect lifemate in her life. A darling green, a handsome blue, or even possibly a queen? Melka wasn't shy about keeping her options open. "I think this might be our time to find ours, don't you think? At minimum, there'll be a lot of cuties to admire." There was something nice about evening Hatchings, and Melka was eager to meet the little darlings. "Which one do you think will hatch first?"

Aubergine Egg gives a pointed and purposeful lurch in its wallow, though it is notably cautious about diving itself right into any of its sibleggs, aware of the space it is taking and where the others are.

While the motion doesn't break shell entirely, a notable crack forms in the side of its shell. Another good push would be all it took and they were not going to waste any time.

Hearts beating in unison, the great golden queen felt a thrill, a kind of magic that wove itself through the grounds, lighting the stars in an endless twilight sky… just a little bit more, and her darling children would be here. Close enough to embrace! She glanced towards Fianth and Eveleth, pride coursing through her as the thought of adding her own pages to the story of this Weyr took hold. Iweth, we’ll have so many stories of this night... She would remember it even in that ever-lasting darkness, and nudged him as she watched their clutch shiver and shudder.

Rosania had been doing her duty- which, today, involved the preparing and cutting of vast quantities of tubers. There was a cosy, comfortable monotony to the chore that allowed her mind to wander, which it often did these days. Thoughts of eggs and dragons occupied most of her free time, and Rosie had become indulgent in daydreams once more.

But she snapped to attention as the cook lightly poked her with an overlarge ladle. “The humming! You hear it?” His words suggested only one thing- run, which she did with renewed vigour. Instructions at the barracks were given, and Rosie found herself washing dirt from her face and fingers. Dirt seemed to have an interesting way of marking her cheeks in particular, as though she and the earth beneath their feet were one. Obviously, that wouldn’t do for a hatching. Her parents would be ashamed.

She wondered if they would sit amongst the guests, as she changed into her white robes and sandals. Would all of her sisters be there? Would they need an extra dragonrider to carry that many people? The thought made her smile as she finished braiding her hair, pinning the braids behind and away from her face.

The young farmgirl found herself standing near Tex, and she smiled and nodded her head in greeting. Nerves were getting the better of Rosa, who had never experienced a hatching before. She tried not to look too scared, but she was certain her freckles were extra visible upon her pale face, eclipsed by over-round eyes. “Aren’t they pretty? Do you have a favourite?” She had liked all the ones she had touched- but she had a soft spot for the egg with the vines. It reminded her of home.

”BastetAmun”
Rosania has come to chill with Tex!

Xharrakai knew what he liked- the leisures and liberties he could take at the Weyr were far superior to any offered by Hold or Hall. There was freedom here, a freedom framed by an eternal war with an unthinking, ominous enemy. It was the kind of freedom that made the sky shiny and bright, and the beer and wine taste even better than normal. They were death’s best mates, and that made them mighty.

Xharrakai liked that.

The power of the Weyr was intoxicating. Sure, they’d fallen into various states of infamy during the long Interval, but shard it all, High Reaches was the place to be. He was going to do his very best to make sure he would never leave it. They’d have to drag him out by his feet, unconscious. Or screaming. But that would be undignified.

No, he’d have to come up with a way to stay. If Impression didn’t work, there had to be another way.

He donned the white candidate robes after washing, enjoying the contrast with his dark skin and wondrous hair. Yes, he did look good as a candidate. A dragon would be nice, but there was no rush.

Xharrakai sauntered along with the group of candidates, bowing to the clutchparents, and grinning at the eggs. Wonderful. Let the darling precious children of the future out to play!

The Worried Bear Egg gives a singular nervous twitch, clearing the sand as the egg seems to squeeze inwardly, almost hopping out of its wallow in the process.

Ooops.

Hope nobody saw that.

It went very still once more, hunkering back down into the warmth.

Jaleeri

Jaleeri was looking forward to a rest - today had been a physically demanding day and she was tired - when a humming began to fill the Weyr. She knew that hum well and a shock of adrenaline surged through her body as she began to bustle about, getting ready for the impending hatching, no longer tired and ready to roll. She cleaned up and pulled on her robes and sandals before heading to the sands with the rest of the Candidates, listening to F'dral's speech while trying to contain her excitement to get out there and wait.

Waiting was terrible but it was wonderful too. The anticipation, the build up, the (hopefully) eventual payoff...oh yeah. It was the sweetest torture.

After bowing to the glowing mother and proud father, Jaleeri picked out her spot on the sands. She glanced around, trying to see if anyone she knew well enough to stand near was out here yet, but she finally settled for keeping the space around her open should anyone wish to join her.

Quote:
Jaleeri is open to sand fam!

Rayarner

Rayarner stumbled over his robes as he struggled to get them on, only stopping his fall by plopping himself onto his cot. He wiggled into the hatching attire there so he didn't clock anyone with flailing limbs as he'd done in the past, and once he was finally settled he stood to slide into his sandals.

That done, he joined the hoard of Candidates down to the sands to listen to F'dral's final words of advice and warning before they moved to the Sands. The eggs were already starting to wiggle and move he noticed, so after bowing to Micecath and Iweth he picked a spot close to where the other Candidates were still filing onto the sands. That way he could start to watch as soon as possible!

---

Faelear

Faelear stood in the crowd of Candidates wringing his hands, waiting to be allowed onto the sands. Hatchings were always a time of high anxiety, getting ready in a rush and trying to get down to the Sands before anyone hatched always making him nervous. But now that they were all down and ready to enter he could start to relax and focus on good, happy thoughts. He glanced out at the pile of eggs and the waiting parents with hope and trepidation all rolled into one - being chosen would be the highest honor he could ever hope for and would surely make his father proud, and then he'd have someone who would be his friend and love him forever...but with that came danger and the risk of death, as he knew all too well. It was a high risk, high reward future he was walking towards, but the reward was worth it.

He made his way onto the Sands, bowing low and proper to the queen and her mate as her father had always taught him - show respect to the metallics, son, for without them Pern is doomed - before picking a place among some of the other Candidates quietly. There were plenty of people here he knew from classes and growing up in the weyr and there were plenty of people he wanted to keep clear of.

Taking her usual seat in the stands, Madanee scanned the sands for her brother. He didn't seem to have made it out of the throng of Candidates yet despite there being notably fewer of them this time around. It seemed Western had a hatching of their own to contend with and the weyrs had decided to keep their Candidates home rather than sending them off. That was unfortunate since Madanee had hoped her brother might Impress at the other weyr, taking him far away from her and their Hold. But now that the field of Candidates was halved, perhaps he'd have a better chance of being chosen.

Either way, she hoped this would be the clutch that held her brother's partner. That way she could really get down to business back home, taking on more responsibility and securing her future.

Tyara

Tyara had been just returning to the barracks, after helping at the infirmary, wanting to get ready to get food to eat. That is when a sound she was not familiar with began to fill the air. However, her little firelizard was still making the sound and she remembered hearing about dragon humming. So, that is how it sounded, she would certainly remember that. As F'dral gave them orders to clean up, she didn't need to be told twice as she got herself washed up, making sure she was as presentable as she could. She also made sure her hair covered the right side of her face, hiding her horrible burn. She was definitely nervous as she climbed into her white robes and slipped into her sandals. She made sure Eliana went to her mother, if her mother had made it. If not, Eliana would know to find her brother I'zel. She folded her hands in front of her, to hide her nerves, as she followed the candidatemaster and her fellow candidates out of the barracks. She made sure to keep her twin in sight, for her own peace of mind.

As they got to the sands, with the light fading in the sky, she made sure to bow to Mictecath and Iweth, before finding a safe place on the sands. She knew her twin would be near and maybe some of the people she had met since they had arrived here...she hoped. Not to mention, her already impressed siblings should be watching with the other Sr. Weyrlings and she hoped her mother had been able to make it. She still was surprised her eldest brother got a bronze, even though she knew with how he had helped their mother after they father died, so it made sense. She couldn't see herself on a gold, knowing from what little she had learned from being here and from their visits...golds were just..well, leaders and she couldn't imagine a gold picking her. As much as she figured her fellow candidates were more worthy for any color, she did hope to get a dragon of her own someday.

"Oh look, one of them is already rocking,"she said softly, seeing the aubergine egg starting to move. She hadn't touched that one, so she wasn't sure what to expect from it. Her eyes did take note of the three she had interacted with the touching. She wondered if they would begin rocking soon too, which would be the first to break out of its shell. Speaking of one of the ones she had touched, she did see some movement from worried bear egg as well. She was focusing on thoughts of welcome, ready to see baby dragons.

Zamistia and Brown Nanuth

Zamistia had been working on grabbing some food, when she felt the hum that went through every fiber of her being from her brown outside. It was time for Mictecath and Iweth's clutch, which made the little red headed woman quite happy. She supposed food could wait, as she hurried out to where Nanuth was waiting.

I already alerted those I could, even though I know their dragons would be humming too. Come Mine, let us go watch my nieces and nephews find their riders,Nanuth thought as they headed to the sands. Once they got there, Nanuth went to get a good vantage point, while Misty went to sit in the stands. Nanuth made sure to send love down to Mictecath and even some to Iweth. The bronze had been exceptional, so he supposed he could begrudgingly accept his sister had chosen well. Next time though, he was determined to win. However, for now, he just let them know he and his little light was here for them and the babies.

Jihiro

His eyes were bright with excitement as he shifted his feet on the hot sands, the cool air of High Reaches offering a pleasant contrast. The setting sun made for a brilliant arrangement of colors which somehow only heightened the romanticism of it all. Jihiro cheerfully followed Kahbrohm to the front of the pack, his arms folded as he admired the eggs--a few of which were beginning to twitch.

"A lot of personality, like always," He replied. "But nothing specific!" Oh, there was no doubt that they would all be strong and mighty dragons... Whether or not his was there was impossible to say. But he certainly had faith! And if not now, then one day.

He knew Kahbrohm was all but gnashing his teeth at this point, on that front. Maybe they'd both be lucky today.

Oranie

The call to prepare was enough to make her chest tight until she felt almost breathless, unsure if she was more excited or anxious. Still, she hopped to it without hesitation, washing her face quickly before donning the white robes. Part of her was selfish, desperately wishing her sister was in the stands or beside her--but she would never, ever demand that of Elibrie. Not after all she'd been through. Nadry and Menankith would be there, she reminded herself, as would O'ler and Praeloth.

Her heart melted gratefully as Lusialu quickly found her, and she didn't hesitate to squeeze her hand in return. "Don't be silly!" She spoke quietly, but earnestly. "But thank you for standing with me, too." Oranie smiled, squeezing the other girl's hand once more. "Maybe. No matter what happens, we'll have plenty to talk about when it's over."

Hopefully only good things would happen, of course. She refused to consider the alternatives. A few of the eggs began to twitch, and she found herself holding her breath quietly. It would begin very soon.

Hunthyex

It was incredible how quickly the weariness of a hard day's work could vanish when the hum of dragons slowly spread throughout the Weyr. He did not allow the jolt of emotions to rule him, quickly and competently cleaning himself and dressing before following the others out to the Hatching Grounds. Would today be the day? For some of them, certainly.

He settled wordlessly near Jaleeri, knowing her to at least be a competent individual... and, as much as it grated on him, he found himself liking her. "So it begins," He murmured, his eyes fixed upon the eggs.
