▬▬ “A smooth sea never made a good captain...So it’s confirmed!”▬▬
Harmony was thrilled, it had felt like a lifetime since she had seen her best friend. They had passed each other on occasion, Vera had work and Harmony could visit her there, but they didn't really get to hang out. When they did, Harmony barely got to tell Vera about her life, and Vera tell Harmony about hers, before they were forced to part ways again. When Harmony had written to Vera in their bi-weekly letters, she had asked if Vera wanted to come to Hogwarts and see all the magic, there was a ball going on, and Vera could get a grand tour of the place. Harmony was thrilled when Vera agreed.
After meeting up at the entrance courtyard, Harmony began dragging Vera. She grinned to her, "I just can't believe you're here! I've missed you so much Vera. I mean, I have friends right? But none of them are my BEST friend." Harmony stopped at the edge of the Black Lake, before stepping into an available boat, holding her hand out to Vera so she could hop on. "I hope you don't mind the sea... well the lake. But it goes underwater and you can see all sorts of cool things. We tried to dye the lake red, but Aire couldn't find enough mer-people safe red dye for that."

September 2nd, 2046. She sat at the window of Wool’s, staring at the sky. There was no owl. The other students had left last night. Maybe her letter was late. Maybe her mother had her age wrong. But September 2047 came and went as well. And the next September. And still no letter. Still no invitation.
When Harmony had invited her to a school dance, and Galen and Wally had assured her she was indeed allowed to attend, Vera’s first thought wasn’t excitement, but the betrayal and hurt of her childhood. But all of that was the furthest thing from her mind now. She was dressed in a gown Lena had helped her make -- so a gown that was embedded in her memory from concept sketch to finishing embroidery. And she was finally on Hogwarts campus. Vera looked around, capturing every detail in her memory. Every tower, every flower in the garden, every magical apparition in the decorations.
“Oh, we’re best friends now?” Vera teased, her tone perhaps a little too deadpan, but the smile that crossed her face betrayed her. Best friend. Vera figured Harmony’s cousin would have been her best friend, so she couldn’t help but smile smugly at the honor.
”I’m not opposed to the sea, Or lake water. As long as we don’t destroy our dresses.” she said, gathering the hem of her dress and taking Harmony’s hand gratefully. Whose idea had it been to have a boat ride while everyone was decked out in ball gowns?
”Sometimes I wonder how the two of you manage to fund all your pranks,” Vera commented dryly. An air bubble surrounded the boat and sank beneath the gentle lake waves. Every underwater flower, every brush of the waves against the air bubble. ”Why would you dye the lake anyways? It’s so...magical.”

Taylor climbed through the air bubble and into the boat first, moving to sit on the farthest end so that her friends had plenty of room to get in. She had never truly been underwater and rarely visited bodies of water, mainly because she wasn’t a huge fan of beaches, so she was interested to see what the merpeople’s world looked like. However, neither she nor Dominik were exactly comfortable with swimming, so she hoped that nothing would go wrong. At least the merpeople were supposedly friendly and responsible, so they would be escorted by expert swimmers if need be. “Did you hear that Yaretzi threw her frog at a Prefect the other day? I heard that she got detention every week until the holidays!” Taylor couldn’t help but cackle at the thought of a Wellbelove quadruplet in detention. Served her right. Taylor shared her detest of those siblings with Dom and Daphne, but her least favourite sibling was still Echo. Alas, their rivalry in the Daily Dragon continued, but she had heard that Echo and Milan were trying to get approval for a weekly fashion article. Although that meant she would more than likely not be working with Echo any longer, she couldn’t help but feel a tad peeved – mainly because taking fashion photos were her dream, and these awful siblings were just going to ruin her chances of ever being appointed the fashion photographer at Hogwarts.

HWhen Vera asked if they were best friends Harmony frowned a little, they surely were right? You could have more than one best friend? If not, Vera was still her best friend. Aire could be demoted to Best Cousin. Thankfully though, Vera didn't snub Harmony's hand and got in the boat, even though there were some concerns over being in ball gowns.
When Vera wondered how they funded their pranks, and why they would dye the lake Harmony grinned, "Alot of our pranks are cheap or free. the Captain gives me an allowance though, I think he wants me to spend it on snacks or something, but he should really expect it goes to our prank fund. We tried to dye the lake, well it gets kinda boring when you see it every day. Plus like, what would happen to the mer-people if they breathed in a different color of water? Would they turn colors? It would be a prank on the people of Hogwarts AND the people of the lake. Double win."
As the boat began to sink, Harmony took out her wand and whispered, "Lumos." Giving the inside of the boat a little bit more light. Harmony was rather intrigued, she hadn't been under the lake. "This is beautiful," she whispered as she saw the glories of under the lake, "The Slytherins can probably see a lot of this from their dorm, it's practically under the lake. But I've never seen all of this, I didn't know there was so much down here."

”Of course we are. Don’t doubt it.,” Vera nudged when she noticed Harmony’s frown. She took her hand and the girls settled into the boat and sunk beneath the waves.Thankfully, Harmony grinned soon, explaining how the Captain--her father-- gave her an allowance for food that she spent on pranks, and that after setting it every day the lake kind of got boring, Vera could understand that--she still hated the overgrown garden in front of one of the houses on the route to the muggle school--every stupid weed was burned into her memory a thousand times over from having walked that route too many times.
”I suppose in the name of learning more about the merpeople that could be interesting,” she said, wondering about the same now that it was brought up. She’d never met an actual merperson.Just paintings and pictures in books. ”Could you ask them? Or just dye part of the lake?” she allowed herself to imagine it for a moment and then offered: ”Also probably not red. You don’t want anyone to think it’s blood. But….orange or deep purple? Maybe even silver?”
Harmony lit up their bubble with a spell and Vera’s attention shifted abruptly to the light at the tip of her wand. ”It is…” Vera agreed, entranced by the light of the wand--magical light, radiating softly as their boat dived deeper into the water. She cleared her throat lightly and looked back outside the bubble when she realized Harmony meant the underwater.was beautiful. ”Oh. I guess..you don’t go underwater when you’re at sea much then? Does your ship turn into a submar--Eeek! What was that?!”
Vera shrieked as a small shadow floated past their bubble, tentacles floating by as the small creature glared at their boat with beady little eyes. A larger shadow passed overhead, nearly 2 meters long, and a sirenic voice sang out
”Look bright, little humans
Open your eyes, don’t fall asleep
You’re sinking beyond the seaweed
Diving into the deep
Listen to our whispering words
From long forgotten lullabies~

Daphne had to admit, she felt like a mermaid princess. Her mom got in touch with their neighbor, a kindly older lady who made the most magical dresses for a living, and she had agreed to design something for Daphne. While it was super cool to wear a literal designer's custom work for the first time, the real shock had been that the horrible sisters had... said she looked nice? Maybe she'd have to talk to Mrs Davisson again about some cute dayware... but then, She was pretty sure Mrs Davisson once mentioned her daughter worked in Hogsmeade. So perhaps Daph would have an easier time there come next year. Sliding on her comfy shoes (because the dress covered them anyway!), Daphne tied on her mask and donned the opal ring her mum usually wore. It was just so pretty! She had to be careful to not lose it, though.
After she was all dressed and ready, the blonde headed down to the lake to meet up with her friends. She, Taylor, and Dominik had decided to do the underwater lake tour, and honestly, Daph couldn't wait! As soon as they were all there, Taylor climbed into one of the boats, and Daph hoisted up her fancy dress to step in as well. As soon as they were all in, Taylor started on the gossip. Apparently one of the Wellbeloves, Yaretzi, had thrown her pet frog at one of the prefects. So that's why she'd been complaining about detention lately. "It makes sense. I don't like that little frog, though. They have a habit of letting their pets out, and for some reason they always end up in my nice, tidy bed. I swear, I've got to check two or three times for animals before getting tucked in. It's very annoying." She sighed quietly, wishing there was another dorm of second years she might be able to swap into. But alas, even after her talk with their head of house, it didn't go anywhere helpful. That, or Professor Hill just didn't have enough energy for the petty squabbles of the pre-teen girls.... He did always seem rather stressed, after all.

Harmony picked up the scroll of basic mer-signlanguage. She shook her head, "We didn't put 'What happens if we put dye in your water' n the basic signs scroll, a pity. Maybe someone else can ask them... I'll write you in my next letter and let you know the outcome." She made a mental note not to forget, maybe go harass the language club for anyone who knew how to sign mermish. "The one time I went underwater at sea, I lost my leg. So I try to in general avoid doing that. Strictly a ship dweller... I wonder if there's anything in there that will try to eat my other leg? I figure I must be pretty tasty."
When a creature floated by and began singing Harmony shuddered, why were the creatures of the lake so weird. "I maybe should pay closer attention in Magical Creatures, then I could tell you what that is." Heck, Harmony lived on a magic ship, how did she not know what it was. She racked through her mind, trying to think of what it was called...she shrugged, "Look it probably won't eat us. I think. Eh. Best if we just keep all hands and feet inside of this here bubble."

▬▬ “There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think about you”▬▬
Dominik was so excited to go to the dance with her friends, Taylor and Daphne. She had gotten a nice yellow dress, her favorite color, and a shiny blue mask. Cenek had randomly gotten super into arts and crafts though? and had put his own shells and things onto his mask? So she was sure to take some of his supplies and make her mask fit the theme a little bit better. She was rather sad that those Wellbeloves were going to be there, but Uncle Finley was going to be there, and that in itself was just thrilling. She didn't get to see him ever since he graduated, and he was always so nice to them. She had plans to meet up with her friends though, and went over to the lake for a ride. She really hoped the boat didn't have a leak, what if they ended up drowning?
When Taylor said the thing about Yaretzi, Dominik gasped, "I can't believe well put together Yaretzi did that! I wish I had seen it." Of course, Daphne had mentioned the pets getting into her bed, "I hate they don't respect your space Daph. They're so awful sometimes I just wanna punch them. But I'd never get away with that. Cenek would hunt me down." She realized, her mind was completely off from the fact they were going deeper and deeper underwater, she was invested in this conversation, "You should just come spend the nights with us Daph, alternate who's dorm you sleep in. We would both love to have you, and you could avoid those brats."
