Sometimes a beautiful fairy visited the grove in which Niamh lived. He was red and black, bright colors all over. To Niamh, he sparkled.

He was not a beautiful fairy, and no matter how many times he explained such a thing to the odd, dreamy mare, she only smiled at him and said that that was exactly what she expected a fairy to say. Kerberos had long given up on trying to explain things, for it was easier to simply agree. Sometimes, he wondered if she didn't just deliberately tune out things she didn't want to hear. It was hard to tell.
Niamh wasn't a simple creature, but the way she perceived the world and people in it was... different. She was fascinating to listen to, and Kerberos enjoyed listening to her stories. He told her tales of his travels in turn, and, even in his puffed up opinion of himself, she seemed to enjoy hearing of them. His appearance hadn't bothered her in the least when they first met, though her idea of beauty might be doubtful to some. Though he would roam the lands as he pleased, he always made certain to stop by wherever he'd seen her last to check up on her.
Today was one of those days.

Wandering through the grove, the white, black, and red mare found something astonishing. "Fairy!" she called, spotting a familiar shape. Amazing. He was so magical, floating in and out of her world like a dream. Sometimes she thought he might be one.

"Niamh," He replied dryly, but he was pleased to see her in good health. "You look more or less in one piece." The large Kalona approached the mare with a languid stride.

Sometimes the fairy liked her to call him - "Kerberos," she said, testing out the strange sound. She didn't mind if he wanted to pretend that he wasn't a magical fairy, but she knew better. With a little laugh, she gave him a fond nuzzle when he dared to approach. "How many pieces do I have?" she asked him, giving another soft laugh that the wind wanted to take away.

He snorted roughly at that, feigning cold tolerance as she stretched her neck to nuzzle him. It didn't last for long, and he leaned back to affectionately n** near her mane. "You? Many, many pieces. But you make up one big one, if that makes sense. Don't want anyone tryin' to knock off any."

Prancing about like a young kalona foal, the mare reached out to n** at one of Kerberos's ears, but then got distracted by a butterfly who landed directly on her nose.
"Oh! You brought friends," she said, certain that this, too, was a fairy. "How many pieces do you have, Fairy?" she asked, ears swiveling in curiosity.

His ear twitched a little at the n**, and he harmlessly snapped at her flank with the same playfulness. Huh? Oh. The butterfly. Of course she'd think it was his friend. "You know me," He said, "Always finding friends." Considering his appearance, most Soquili usually ran away screaming. As for his pieces... "Hm. Probably a few." Kerberos mulled it over. "The number changes."

Entranced by the mystical beauty of the fairy's friend, Niamh stared cross-eyed at the creature before her. "Mister Fairy," she said, her voice dreamy and filled with wonder, "how did you find this friend?" Or had the friend found him? A magical stallion with his miraculous body that had many pieces.

Kerberos tilted his head to eye her askance, snorting with amusement at the sight of her looking cross-eyed and absolutely enamored with the butterfly still perched upon her nose. "Friends like these like flowers. Bet you'll find more of them if you keep your eyes out." Or, maybe she wouldn't. Sometimes Niamh didn't seem to notice the strangest things--even when they were right in front of her face.

Mister Fairy was very wise indeed! Niamh stared at the fairy that fluttered at the end of her nose, and then gave a light sneeze when it tickled her a little too much. The butterfly flew away, to the mare's disappointment, although the emotion was of short duration.
"I'll look really carefully," she told her fairy friend, and then cocked her head slightly. "I saw a big puppy and it saw me too." Unfortunately, the puppy hadn't wanted to play quite as nicely as she had. "It tried to bite me, but I bit it first."

Kerberos watched as the butterfly fluttered off into the sky.. only for his gaze to snap back down at the mention of a 'puppy'. "A wolf?" Was his first thought, for he could see where a starving one might be desperate enough to try and take down a full grown Soquili. "You better have bit it." He grumbled, subtly glancing at her to make certain he didn't see any bite marks marring her white hide.
"Where did this puppy go?" He asked, making a mental note to do a more careful patrol before he headed off again. If there was a predator nearby, it would be in Niamh's best interest to drive it off for good.
