An area that is on the border of the Land of Riverss and the Land of Wind. The area as a whole is a mixture of large rocks, hard ground, cliffs, valleys, caves, and desert sands with high points and low points that can lead to different areas of desert unexpectedly. For the most part, the half that rests within the Land of Winds is all desert and desert caves with no oasis while the half in the Land of Rivers consists of rocky terrain and cliffs at varying elevations, some of which explicitly seem to be the only way into a few of the desert caves. There is a small camp on the Land of Rivers portion, just before the rough terrain of the area truly begins. It seems the camp is a commonly used stop for various travelers who need to go through this way.
This location has been identified as the most likely location that the Monstrous Devil described as part of this mission makes it's home.
Mission Information
Chouka, Arashikara, and Inoyuri must track down and capture, tame, or slay the monster in question.
Airen must tame or slay one of the aggressive small monsters you will run into, and act as lookout while also observing Chouka, Arashikara, and Inoyuri's hunt from a safe distance.
Airen may also assist Chouka, Arashikara, and Inoyuri in tracking down their target for "bonus points" so to speak.
The camp mentioned in the description is to be treated as your starting point for the mission. There are no monsters nearby the campsite at all. As you progress into different areas of the location different small monsters will be described however you will only need to engage monsters if they attack you.
You first posts should be arriving at the camp, resting a bit should you all, as a group, choose such. Then a description of how your character attempts to track the monster to find it's location.
The mission will be considered a failure if your group fails to successfully locate the monster, if the monster chooses to flee and manages to escape, or if 2 members of your group manage to completely run out of chakra and stamina before the completion of your mission. This is excluding Airen.
You, as a group, will have 5 days to post before I make a post. The consequence of not posting within the allotted time will depend on the situation you're faced with and your allies actions, and may result in reduced overall rewards at the end of the mission.

Chouka laced her fingers and threw them over head, cracking her knuckles as she stretched her back. She was excited to be outside the village for a monster mission. "None of us have special monster sensory, eh?" She looked out into the distance, eyeing a cave. "More fun that way. I guess we gotta just pick a direction and go, unless 'kara here has some special intuition?" It was just some teasing, but she elbowed the blonde and did, actually, have a small hope that Arashikara would happen to sense out a specific direction for them. The smaller woman had strong gut feelings, stronger than Chouka, and it seemed wise to listen. Chouka didn't mention that she felt a little concerned about having such a little kid on their team, too, but she also knew no sannin would send a kid to their death, so the three of them must be well-equipped to protect Airen or, hopefully, that the kid could do all the protecting they needed.
"I wish we knew how close the things were to camp; then, we could make a ruckus here and see if they'd come out. But I think that's a waste of time." She tried not to advocate for the loud, head-first approach that she personally preferred. She felt Inoyuri was one of the smart, reserved types, so maybe the Yamanaka could sense something out here. Plus, y'know, the kid. She just didn't want to sign these folks up for something they couldn't handle. "I like the idea of hitting one of these cliff-caves, but I don't wanna take the lead on this one. The strong should support the... uh, almost-as-strong."

“Ugh, it’s hoooooottt.” Arashikara whined as the group traveled. Land of Rivers was more temperate than the Land of Winds, and as they came closer to the latter the Nara would sweat just a bit more. Additionally, the wind would pick up and occasionally throw wind into the blonde girl’s eyes. As such, she didn’t notice when Chouka stopped and she walked right into the Akimichi’s back. Arashikara was knocked back a couple of steps as her friend began to speak again.
“Special intuition?” Arashikara tilted her head thoughtfully. “You mean like at the Weald? Hmmm. No, I got nothin’.” She answered with a shake of her head. “But I did ask Iksin for a little bit of info, since I thought this thing sounded awesome.” The Genin slipped the folder that the Sannin gave her and opened it up to a certain page. “So he said it can, and usually, burrows underground. So maybe if someone has Earth style, we can be more aware of when it pops up. Until then, he also said it likes to attack here-” Arashikara pointed a finger to a village marked on a map included with her documents. “-so maybe we can start asking questions there.”
Chouka’s gung-ho attitude made Arashikara smile, and the Nara would have normally been on board. She was excited to explore this new area and see as much as she could. But at the same time, she should start thinking more like a shinobi. “We aren’t really familiar with the terrain here. So maybe we can grab some supplies and a new map while we’re here?” Arashikara looked around the camp. It was empty of people but filled with supplies. That was odd; was it trapped? Usually Arashikara got a chill up her spine when something bad was gonna happen, but here she got no such feeling. Should she go with her gut at a time like this, though? "What do you two think?” She asked Inoyuri and Airen.
Plod plod plod plod. Plop! Glug glug glug. Airen, footsteps heavy from exhaustion, sat his tiny butt on the rocky-sandy ground, brought his canteen up to his mouth, and chugged away at the water inside as soon as he came level with the stopped Arashikara and Chouka. It was a good thing Inoyuri had taken him to get some bare necessities, like this canteen, ready before leaving the village, or the fragile Kurama child probably wouldn't have made it this without water to drink and snacks to nom on. Though, as he had packed light, reserves of both had already begun to run low.
Separating his lips from the mouth of the canteen with a, "Puhah," once he got his fill of water, Airen looked around the camp as Arashikara did the same. Empty of people, but not goods, so kind of like the supply room at school. Evidently, if anything could be taken from this search, he had been listening to the Nara lay out her plan. "I like the plan, ane-san," Airen agreed, head tilting far back so he could look all the way up at Arashikara without having to stand up, "If the village isn't far away, will we split up to... uh... um... Aha, to cover more ground? The monster might run away if we take too long."

Inoyuri felt the sweltering heat come over him. The others were feeling pretty similar, with Arashikara smacking into Chouka, who in turn would feel the Yamanaka smack into her as she exhaled in heat. His eyes shot down beside the littlest member of their group who was currently huffing and puffing all the way that they headed from the village. Every so often, Inoyuri found himself reminding him to keep the boy by him nice and prepped. "Don't forget to drink some water, Ai-chan." he said, gently ruffling the boy's head as Chouka led the group forward. She mentioned sensory as Inoyuri would quickly begin to raise his hand up but would recall it with a blush. He didn't want to really bother the leader of the group any and knelt down with his hand to the ground and sensed along the land for any signs of heavy movement. If the scale was anything to go off of, they would need to find something along here that was massive.
Arashikara would talk to her as Inoyuri would keep his head down and frown. "S-Sorry. I was sensing to see if our target would be anywhere around the land. I didn't want to interrupt you two any." He said, his voice still indistinguishable from his comrades.

Through Inoyuri's sensory technique he would be able to get a pretty well figure out lay of the land. Comparing the map and his own ability he would be able to tell that the map was pretty accurate. Although perhaps missing one or two paths that seemed perhaps just to be unknown. Though those were perhaps the least important part of what Inoyuri would manage to get a feel for. Various sizes of creatures, smaller ones that seemed to be attacking some larger monsters fairly close by. If any were to look outside the campsite into the rocky valleys they would see the scene Inoyuri could feel through the earth tremors happening. A bunch of small purple and orange lizard like creatures leaping upon mid-sized rather large creature that seemed to simply not be able to properly fight back against these creatures. Perhaps these small purple and orange colored creatures were what Iksin had tasked Airen with slaying or taming? Inoyuri's sense reaching out into sands beyond, although the sense had gotten a bit messed up due to the sands, Inoyuri would be able to feel the large creature's form. Probably laying down, off in one of the caves connected to the desert areas. The one that was likely their target from what he could tell.

There were vibrations all around the land, Inoyuri was able to gauge a pretty sizeable chunk out of the "map" inside of his head that was being painted for him as he channeled the jutsu. There were a few odd and ends which lacked definitive odds and ends, but it was all there laid out for the ninja. Close by, several creatures were attacking a larger one which cause small tremors in the immediate area. It was being overrun by them and was losing against the hunting party, although it was by no means likely an overpowering result. "I can see a lot. There's some little ones near that might be yours, Ai-chan. But our prey isn't here." His connection in the sands was rockier than solid ground. Inoyuri could only have a brief glimpse and rough picture at what was present. "I can't focus much else where. It's hard to...Oh." A heavy weight resting on them could cause the Yamanaka to smile to himself. That had to be their quarry. Yet it was deep within the earth, in a cave most likely.
"I think I've found it. He's in the desert area, where the sands and cavern systems meet. I can't say which right now, but if we could get more close, I could be able to get a better trace of him."

Chouka frowned when Arashikara admitted she didn't have a strange feeling like she'd had at the Weald, but then the Nara was pulling out a document and discussing plans anyways. She huffed a laugh, amused at Arashikara's preparation. Thankfully, however, Inoyuri's sensory prowess revealed some sort of direction for the monster. Chouka punched a fist in the air and cheered. "Hell yeah! Maps, shmaps. We got a little monster detector right here!" Chouka clapped a huge hand on Inoyuri's head, shaking just slightly like one would for a good dog.
"Lead the way, Li'l Ino." Despite what she just said, Chouka was the first to begin walking. She was eager to find the creature and see what kind of power the thing had. It had been terrorizing people, so maybe it'd make a good addition to Chouka's team. Still, the chief also wanted to arm wrestle the thing into submission and take its whimpering form back to Iksin. She wasn't sure which outcome she'd end up with until she began pummeling the thing. "Last one there is Min Min's dung!"

While everyone rested or prepared, Arashikara would take a look around the camp for more supplies. Something she’d find relatively quickly was new traveling garb: a loose hooded cloak, to block out sandy winds. During the girl’s search she’d also find some rather interesting items. Two small disks with clear tops, and a net inside upon inspection. About a handful of similar capsules, with pink smoke captured within. And then three bottles with colored liquids inside: one cyan, one purple, and one yellow. While these items did catch the Genin’s attention, Arashikara was no closer to figuring out what they were. The last thing on the list was a set of massive ammunition that the Nara doubted even Chouka could wield properly.
Arashikara would barely have enough time to investigate further before her squad would excitedly exclaim about finding something and rush off without her. “Hey, wait!” She called out, sealing the smaller items away with a cloud of smoke as she ran after. “I don’t wanna be Min-Min dung!” She whined. Arashikara would run after Inoyuri and Chouka, her feet sliding unsteadily in the sand. Was the plan just to rush in head first and hope for the best? They didn’t even know what they were getting into! Maybe it spoke to how strongly they all trusted each other, but Arashikara had a sickening feeling that, someday, that wasn’t going to be enough.
A sight out of the corner of her eye caught the blonde girl’s attention, pulling her from her thoughts to see the pack of monsters ripping into a large one. She could think what she wanted about preparation and planning, but at the end of the day Arashikara was the type to act first and think later. And something about the sight of the larger beast being unable to defend itself pulled at the girl’s sense of morals. So Arashikara came to a skidding stop as she crouched, quickly performing a series of signs. “Kage Shibari!” She called out. Instantly, the shadows in the immediate area slithered around the ground before wrapping around each of the smaller monsters. The shadows would hold them all to the ground before more shadows, thick and as solid as stone tablets, would crash onto the threads with enough weight to dislodge the sand. “Kin!” Arashikara had never tried to hold this many targets at once before and she was already feeling the effects of her jutsu. “Airen! Inoyuri! Try to get that big guy outta there!” She’d managed to say through grit teeth. “Chouka, think you can bowl a path for them?”

Airen needed all the time he could take to rest, so he remained plopped on the ground by Inoyuri's time the entire time, however long that was, he got for a break. However, exhaustion wouldn't stop the small child from perking up when Inoyuri relayed his discoveries to the rest of the group. Swiveling his head to and fro obediently in search of the ones Inoyuri mentioned might be his, Airen finally found them after some effort. Rather, the cloud of dirt their activities kicked up. Even squinting, he could just barely make out small figures hopping and congregating around larger, less numerous figures. He turned his head back around to hear Inoyuri finish her explanation. The desert area? His head swiveled back and forth again, trying to find great sand dunes and other desert-like things. Lucky for him, Chouka started to immediately move in that direction, giving Airen an idea of where the others would be while he handled the job he was given.
With Chouka all raring to go, Airen felt pumped himself. He picked himself up and hop-stretched in place as he bid a quick farewell, "Okay! Big sis is already moving, so I'll go too! Thank you, onee-chan! Good luck to all of you!". Much too excited to count properly and realize that one of his big sisters had yet to catch up, Airen turned about and jogged to his targets, head as empty as the sky above him.
"Nai Nai~ Nai Nai~" the enthusiastic student began to mutter to himself in a sing-song voice when a commanding voice called his name and interrupted his little summons. Airen stopped his run and turned around to the source of the familiar voice, ready to proceed per Arashikara's instructions.as he'd gotten accustomed to while receiving her help with school. "Mm!" his agreement came without hesitation, and he focused his attention on fulfilling what his ane-san asked of him.
A little bit of thinking, and he had an idea. Not necessarily a good one, but an idea nonetheless. Airen cast his own series of hand seals, fingers smoothly running through each sign in a manner only possible now thanks to Inoyuri's patient teaching, and with the completion of the cast, his form faded into invisibility, or something similar to it, with the Chameleon Skin technique. To an academy student like him, this much was already amazing. To the experienced shinobi around him... ehhhhhh, but maybe it would work. The beasts were distracted and distressed by Arashikara's sudden strike. Not details Airen had taken into consideration, but details that would nonetheless increase his chances as he ran by himself through the crowd while Inoyuri and Chouka did whatever they would do.
Stopping besides the medium-sized beast, Airen cast a couple more hand signs and took a second to get a nice, deep inhale in. Hold the breath. Hold it. He held the breath as he jumped onto the back of the "big guy" as Arashikara dubbed, remembering the tree walking lessons with Arashikara to remain glued to the back of the monster despite what it may do, and only once he was seated atop the thick neck did he release the breath. A burst of flames left his lungs with Airen's exhale, but despite the bright flash and heat of living flames, there was no such fire. It was all just an illusion. After all, Arashikara had asked him to save this big guy, so Airen would make plenty sure that it wouldn't be hurt~
Physically, at least. Mentally, though, was another question because Airen's entire intent was to send the beast into a panic and have it turn around and charge the direction opposite the sudden burst of flames, intentionally right into one of the little gremlins Arashikara had hooked to the ground with her shadow. However, even if his genjutsu caused a little bit of insanity in order to scare the beast in the right direction, it would still be fine.

The golden dragon like monster in it's smaller form flew around nearby. It hadn't entered the campsite for some reason but kept close to it regardless. This was part of his job after all. He noted that it seemed Chouka was a bit too gung-ho trying to go after the big guy as soon as possible. Of course he understood it a bit, but what was a bit more interesting was the acts of the shadow user and the small kid.
The beasts that were attacking the larger and seemingly much less harmless beast had all been stopped in their tracks. Stuck in place and struggling against the powers of Arashikara in order to make her job harder of course. They all roared in her direction, obviously angrily and ready to attack her as well as the others. Their quarry had suddenly changed from the large food object to the aggressive objects who seemed to be holding them. Of course their time wouldn't even come to attack.
The small boy's actions were rather smart. As the beast larger than the others that were attacking it had begun to attempt it's escape almost as soon as the five monsters stopped attacking. Then suddenly flames! The monster went into a bit of a panic suddenly, stopping as quickly as possible. Maybe even launching the small boy off it's back, well if Airen hadn't already planned for exactly that. The monster then began to run in the opposite direction of the flames, charging through the smaller monsters with relative ease. Smashing the currently stuck monsters and pretty much decommissioning them. It was like it didn't even slow the larger beast down...and it kept running with the young boy atop it. In the direction opposite where Inoyuri had indicated their target was.

Airen's Primary mission is considered finished with that interesting method of taking out the monsters. He will obviously obtain his official rewards for it after the entire mission is over.

Chouka's hand found its way on top of Ino's head, forcing the boy to wince a moment before the impact. It did feel good to be appreciated though. Even if the akimichi was pretty rough in her delivery. "Th-Thanks." Inoyuri said, a faint color to his cheeks while they were off and onto their destination. Unfortunately, Chouka took the front before he could even think about stepping into the leadership role. Not like it was one he actually wanted anyway. He really just preferred being a wallflower to being in the spotlight, especially if eyes were on him. Chouka ran off followed by Arashikara and left Airen and him behind, a dumbfounded expression on their face. The Yamanaka was still so protective of the smaller boy, and...there he was running to go do his own job. "Wh-What?! C'mon guys..." he whined, taking up space behind the group while trying to lag behind in case Airen needed any last minute help. He could have fallen or gotten stuck or gotten eaten by a plant! Once they were separated, Inoyuri caught back up to his own group and even passed by Arashikara while then paying attention to their own quarry. The monster would be surrounded by five smaller ones, which were held back by their Nara jutsu as Airen tag teamed them and managed to get the larger beast freed. Although the plan might've worked too well as Airen, now riding ATOP the monster, was currently heading back the way they came.
"Gah! Airen!" Inoyuri jumped into action, shifting to a few hand signs and then slamming his hand down onto the ground. Behind him, in the path of the beast, rose an earthen wall that spanned a dimension of twenty feet. With any luck, it would stun the big boy enough for them to get the child off of it. But Inoyuri would then begin to think to himself. If their target was in a cave, it might have been better to draw him out into the open. "A-Actually, this might work. If we can get that beast near the desert place where our target is, we could draw it out of the cave so we're not in its home turf."

Arashikara sighed and rose to her feet once Airen had taken care of his targets. The blonde wiped sweat from her brow but met the boy with a grin. “Good job, little man! Your Genjutsu’s gotten much better!” The Nara felt a wave of dizziness wash over her for an instant, and she swayed for a second before falling against Chouka.
“Yah, bringing it out from the cave is a safe bet. I don’t wanna fight it and get trapped in the caves.” She pointed out. She was in no real rush to get off of her friend. “But we don’t know what it looks like, so going in to fight might be a suicide mission.” The girl thought for a second, shifting her gaze to Chouka pointedly. “We need more info from the locals before we go monster slaying.”
The little kid had some moves, but Chouka felt all the praising of the kid would make him soft and limit his ability to grow strong. She didn't voice her displeasure, instead cheering at the overall success so far and Inoyuri's intelligent use of the stone wall. "Yeah! Let's not give the b*****d homefield advantage. How can we trick those things into coming out here?" She turned to Arashikara, patting her supportively on the shoulder before listening to her ideas. Chouka shrugged and grinned at her pointed suggestion. "We get information from chargin' on in, though! I get it, I get it, you and Inoyuri wanna be squares. I'm game for dragging it out here, but I don't know about interrogating any locals. If they knew anything, surely they'd have solved the problem, yeah?"
Inoyuri's wall worked fantastically. So fantastically, in fact, that it dazed even Airen when the beast crashed headfirst into the earthen construct with the screaming Airen on it. Stars popped around the student's head, swaying about dizzily, but as he wasn't the one that had concussed himself on the wall, he recovered faster than the big ,cow-like thing.
Rapidly scrambling off the big beast while he still had the chance, Airen shook in place out of shock for a little bit before pulling himself back together. Originally, he had wanted to tame all the things, but... But maybe not this big guy anymore. He was scared of the big guy now. Backing off warily, slowly at first, then gradually speeding up, once he felt he was far away enough to be safe, he started to quickly run back to the rest of the group.
Only to stop. Airen looked back at the still dazed monster and then remembered how tired Inoyuri had been on the way here. Timidly re-approaching the beast, Airen pulled a small, kid-sized harmonica from his bag. Holding the harmonica between two hands, he paused to think. To remember a lesson he had with Inoyuri a few weeks past about using the different senses. With a little struggle, Airen remembered the techniques he needed and combined the two, casting together Scent of the Peculiar with Hunger Technique to mark himself with the scent of the beast's favorite food, but not so much to bring the target stress or weigh it down with lethargy. All he wanted was to smell enticing enough to the beast so that it would follow him once it was up.
Then, before it was too late, Airen brought the harmonica to his lips and began playing to cast another genjutsu. This time, it was Comfort Song to make sure Airen wouldn't be hurt by this monster anymore. Slowly, hopes high that his plan would work, Airen began backing away once more, step by step, bringing the monster over to the rest of the group. For his and Inoyuri's legs, he will tame this beast! But first, he needed to ask Arashikara how... He didn't know how, and he wasn't sure if Inoyuri did, but Arashikara knew a lot of things. And if not Arashikara, then maybe Chouka did. In the little time Airen had spent with the pink-haired Akimichi, Chouka always sounded so confident so she probably also knew a lot.

Scents in the area can make something as simple as dust smell endearing, or make crushed leaves give off a toxic aroma. By this, both traps and warnings can be made of simple objects, not to mention the handy note of covering up one's tracks. Overwhelmingly unpleasant scents have the ability to cause mental stress.
