xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

AMBITIOUS Annalise is well aware that her current situation hasn't exactly set her up well for life. While she hopes eventually she'll be adopted and have a family to call her own, she knows better than to count on it. She has her own ideas for her future and dreams of self-sufficiency. No matter the cards she has been dealt, she is determined to succeed in any and all endeavors by any means she deems necessary.

FLEXIBLE A loose plan is fine, but it's important to be ready for the curveballs life throws at you. Annie is a roll with the punches type of girl, and as such is good at thinking on her feet. Whether it be a change in the day's plans or a sudden shift in game strategy, she'll face what's coming to her head-on.

UNPREDICTABLE Unbeknownst to Annie, she gets her emotional stability from her mother. Her feelings are strong and can sometimes be overwhelming for her. The good days are great, the bad days are miserable. She doesn't often hold this against herself, viewing herself as the passionate type with a flair for dramatics and adventure. If anything, she likes to keep people on their toes. She tells herself if she's too much for someone, then they simply weren't enough for her. No hard feelings.

PERFECTIONIST Annalise has high standards when it comes to herself and anything she does. She has a keen eye (and ear) for detail. Her homework needs to be thorough. Her hair needs to be just so. When she's drafting new music, she'll spend hours on end until she achieves just the right sound, and then she needs to repeat until it comes second nature to her. No one else is ever held to these standards. So long as they're taking care of themselves and giving it their all, they have Annalise's respect. For herself though, she can't practice what she preaches. She'll never hope to stand out from the crowd with anything less than perfection.

SELF-CRITICAL Annalise's self-confidence is nothing but a front built up from years of bitter disappointment. In all her years, no one has ever wanted her. She thinks maybe, just maybe, if she pushes herself hard enough she'll find some sort of sense of belonging. Yet at the same time she consistently invalidates herself, telling herself she's fundamentally flawed. That even if she can live to her own standards, she may still never be enough. Annalise Watson is her own worst enemy.

NURTURING Despite how she sometimes comes off, Annalise cares deeply for the people close to her. She is happy to lend a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on for those who need it. Although she doesn't treat herself with the same kindness, she will try to give gentle guidance when able, providing a support system she wishes she could have had for herself.

xxxBACKSTORYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EARLY CHILDHOOD Annalise didn't know her parents, but she did know her mother loved her. Shortly after her birth Annalise was abandoned at Wools with only a name, a letter, and an engraved, silver bracelet that read, "There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in my heart." The parting words of her mother led Annalise to ask about her family often, and the staff that took care of her lacked the answers she hoped for. That was fine. Annalise was of a curious mind and would be determined to make sense of it all one day. In the meantime, her time at Wool's went well enough. There was always a commotion with the other children that helped her to feel less lonely and kept her from thinking too long about her parents. Even if she may not have always gotten along with everyone, there was almost always a playmate around. The worst days were when one of her orphaned siblings were adopted--the home seemed quieter, but she tried to be happy for them despite her jealousy.

Music was one of the best things in life. In particular, Annalise enjoyed high energy rhythms that made her want to jump up and dance. The music helped her to shut her mind off and relax. After Annalise turned six, she started to notice the strangest phenomenon with the radio. Occasionally, if what was playing was particularly boring and Annalise wished it would stop, it would suddenly change stations. As she got older, she realized it would change to her favorite stations, the ones she knew by heart. Eventually it became pretty evident her magic was the cause of it, despite rarely having any other surprise occurrences. On her eleventh birthday Annalise received her letter for Hogwarts, and she couldn't wait to go and learn what other sorts of things her magic could do.

SCHOOL YEARS
FIRST YEAR Annalise made it through her first year at school without many incidents. When she was lost exploring the castle one day, she stumbled across one of the Wellbelove siblings admiring a wall of tapestries. Before she knew it, Yari had adopted Annalise as her protégé of sorts. As the year passed she started to gain more of an appreciation for fashion--it wasn't music, but obviously she needed a new hobby since her music player was totally useless at school. By suggestion of Flora Helen, and in an effort to keep her emotions in check, she joined Namaste. She considered joining the music club, but ultimately refrained this year since she wasn't sure what sort of instrument she might take up. Everything she liked was electronic, and music club... Was not.

SECOND YEAR Just before school, Yari invited Annalise out to the Arts Festival on Diagon Alley. It was the first time she had ever been asked to go somewhere with someone not from the orphanage. To her surprise, she was picked up from Wool's by one of Yari's nannies... Number 99, she said. What in the world happened to have them go through 99 nannies? It didn't really matter. Annalise was here to have fun, and fun they had! They wandered the streets, swapping opinions on jewelry or outfits for sale. While stopping at a flower booth, Annalise was flustered by the gorgeous shopkeep. He seemed tense, though offered the girls a free flower each. He even had the cutest little girl with him with white hair just like herself! The girls left the booth giggling, wondering if he thought either of them were cute, but all the while Annalise couldn't help but think she had seen him somewhere before.

The school year was more of the same. Clubs, classes, bickering with that annoying Logan Strife in the middle of their daily assignments. Annalise decided to take on advanced flying this year in hopes of conquering her motion sickness. It.... Didn't really help, but it didn't not help. She didn't throw up every time, anyway. Luckily she always held back until after class, so as not to tarnish her reputation by becoming Pukes McGee or something worse. This year she finally joined the Music club, though she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to do for herself yet. Yari also convinced her to try for Quidditch, but ultimately, the Quidditch team wasn't the right fit for her. She was best off on the ground, serving as Yari's willing doll, instead.

THIRD YEAR Feelings were hard. Sometimes Annalise thought it would be easier if she were actually a doll. Yari was completely smitten by her boyfriend, Angier Zheng. She couldn't blame her--he was a catch. He was intelligent, kind, and seemed just as enamored by Yari as she was with him. They made for a beautiful couple, but... Annalise couldn't help but feel bitter.

She didn't exactly like sharing Yari. Her siblings, she understood. But this boy? What was so wrong with Annie? Was she not enough anymore? Milan seemed just as stressed by the whole thing. Though he never explicitly stated it, as someone going through the same dilemma, she could sense that jealousy from a mile away. In a way, they were kindred spirits through this utter disaster, having nothing more to do than to patiently wait and hope that the relationship evolved no further than a simple school fling.

During trips to Hogsmeade some weekends, Annalise would catch a glimpse of the boy (man, she supposed--he was quite a bit older despite his looks, it turned out) from the flower shop. Some days she saw him in the Silver Bullet Tavern, other times it was dueling one of two girls in the dueling range. Those were fun--especially when he was against the brunette. It was practically a duel to the death! He turned out to be one of Robin Winchester's guardians, and every other visit or so she would catch the two together. It must be nice, to have family that cared enough to check in during the school year. Or at all, really. A few times she managed to speak to him, and though he always looked like he was holding something back, he was pleasant to chat with. His name was Nimbus Siddall, and that... Sounded so very familiar. Annalise was certain she heard that name somewhere before. After some prodding at home, she was able to confirm that Nimbus was the previous keeper of her family's vault key before it fell into her hands the year prior. Something was fishy here.

It was a sunny day in July when Angier Zheng came to Wool's, and sunny days later when a mysterious clap of thunder rumbled through the building. It was Lem Titensor that first found the bloody mess, the poor guy. Annalise had only caught glimpses during the cleanup. Blood and bits of snake... Except instead of a snake, it was Angier. It was a gruesome death she wouldn't have wished upon her worst enemy, least of all her sweet and kind romantic rival. She had to tell Yari immediately--Annalise would not let her hear of her beloved boyfriend's tragic demise through the next morning's Prophet.

FOURTH YEAR Annalise had done everything she could think of to be there for Yari following Angier's death, but as it turned out, it wasn't enough. She wasn't enough. It was a special sort of heartbreak she experienced the morning following Yaretzi Wellbelove's suicide attempt, having to hear the news through the whispers in the Slytherin common room. How could she leave her like that? She thought Yari could talk to her. She thought they were closer than this. She never was an option worth entertaining to Yari, was she? It was a hollow feeling of worthlessness that consumed her unlike any other. Thank the stars Daphne was able to get her to the hospital wing in time.

After Yari was sent home, Annalise did the best she could to support her friend through letters, while all she wanted to do was scream and curse her for doing what she did and leaving her alone. And then she did it again. How could she not seek her for help?! Annalise would have done anything for her!

The second half of the year Annalise was simply in survival mode. She did what she could to hold herself together and get through her classes and clubs. She even looked after Yari's frogs for her in her absence. One day, Flora Helen took her to have tea with Professor Kieran. The two of them attempted to talk to Annalise about Yari, but she wasn't having any of it. She didn't want their pity and told them as such before storming out. It was only later that Annalise returned to Professor Kieran's office to apologize, understanding that her grief got the best of her.

For the last year, Annalise had been practicing the piano. It was going fine, she guessed, but it didn't compare to the intricate melodies she would hear when she walked by Bouquets & Bowtruckles. Sometimes her frustrations got the best of her. One day a boy from music club, Aurais, sat with her. For the most part she understood what he signed, and what she didn't, his bird helpfully translated. Soon it became a regular occurance to sit on the piano bench in the quiet room, the sounds of piano, Astyth, and Annalise's voice talking back the only sounds of the room. It was on an especially lonely day that Annalise asked if Aurais had ever kissed anyone before, and it was on that day that they shared their first. From then on, there was an added layer to their relationship.

It was over the Summer, while listening to a court case broadcast on the radio, that Annalise remembered where she had first heard the name Nimbus Siddall. A trip to the library and digging through The Daily Prophet archives led her to the ministry case she recalled hearing on the radio as a young girl, about a boy who murdered his father and his fiancee, then lost his sister in the aftermath. Though he pled guilty to all three deaths, it was ultimately determined to be an act of self defense against one Sera Meredith Carver. Carver's photograph resembled Annalise to an alarming degree, leaving a sense of dread pooling in her stomach. She would need to take some time to delve into the matter further before jumping to any conclusions, but there was a part of her that already knew the confrontation awaiting her.
