Wintertime in the Kawani is in full swing, and February is no exception! A strong snowstorm and cold front has blown into the lands, blanketing much of the land in white. Some areas have completely been overwhelmed by snow--and places that are typically warmer or never see the stuff have also been covered in the white stuff.

How is your Soquili handling this snowstorm? Were they caught unaware? Are they experiencing snow for the first time, or are they used to it? What do they do now that they're living in a winter wonderland?

Celestia didn't like the snow. She'd never liked the snow. It stuck to her wings and, where normally she'd fly over terrain that was difficult to walk over, in the snow she couldn't do that. She could go small and try to duck and weave around the flakes. But she didn't want to risk one dragging her down into the deep snow below. It was falling so much, she'd quickly get buried. She could just as easily go big if that happened. If she wanted the memory of the feeling of being buried alive to stay with her. Which she didn't. So she walked.

On the mare's back a snowy owl was perched, her feathers fluffed up and her head down so she looked like a white ball perfectly balanced on the purple back. Hedwig didn't like the snow, either, when it was falling like it was now. It was mesmerizing to the eyes when you were flying through it. Many times, Celestia had seen the owl almost smacking into a tree or large boulder in her path because she was more focused on the flakes in her face than where she was going.

And where were they going now? Neither had any idea. Somewhere warm would be ideal. They had no hope of finding something like that out here. At least the wind had calmed down. Celestia's back showed the results of the wind buffeting at the owl, who tried in vain to hold onto her perch. The mare didn't mind. Oh, the scratches hurt and she could feel blood cold on her sides. But she knew it wasn't on purpose. Hedwig couldn't possibly walk in this on her own.

Traveling from the north, Hottah had come the the southern lands a few seasons before. he always loved the winter on account it reminded him of home. Every winter was pleasant for him but he'd seen the struggles of the southern folk. So when the clouds started changing Hottah knew snow was coming, and not a light snow. he could smell it in the brisk air. They were going to get a pile! As much as it delighted him hottah did his best to warn both the two legs and other soquili to take shelter.

Once the bulk of the storm had passed and the snow fallen Hottah started out early in the morning. Yawning the draft Ceryni started scratching his large golden antlers on the trunk of a nearby Tree to dull them a bit. Wouldn't want anyone being frightened of him. He was quite large after all!

The pale draft carefully packed his staff away at home, he wouldn't need it just his strength and his antlers. With a big friendly smile Hottah headed out into the world covered in a heavy blanket of snow. He loved this weather, it was a shame winter wasn't longer! traveling for a while, continuing to admire the scenery despite the wind that had started picking up and blowing the snow around. It felt wonderful, but he could see some of the forest life ducking away, reminding him he needed to find any stragglers and bring them to his home to warm up so they didn't freeze to death.

A bright purple color caught his eye through the pines.

"Oy! gooday eh!" Hottah called out in a friendly manner. [277]

The pair had come to a pine forest, the branches thick with needles. It made it difficult for her to see through the woods, to see if there was any danger afoot. Such was the life of a flighty herbivore, after all. Always on the lookout for that which might threaten you when you were alone. Not that being in groups assured you of being safe. Not when there were equine sized threats in the world, too. Such as Walkers. Carnivorous mutants. Even ones that looked perfectly normal. Celestia had known sadistic Flutter and Unicorn in her time. Two breeds you'd never think of as anything but whimsical and helpful.

But than judging others by how they looked was unfair. And, frankly, rude. It was not something Celestia had done since she was a very young filly, trotting along by her mother's side. Nor was she going to be afraid of everyone she came across. She was just a little....Cautious. The snow made it difficult to move and that made her nervous. Not a whole lot, but enough that she was peering around the trees to look deeper into the forest, her ears rotating this and that. Seemed fine. Still cold, but fine.

From her back, Hedwig gave a little hoot, soft to her ears. Celestia fluttered her wings, folded down by her sides and turned her head, spying a pure white stallion with a lovely set of antlers. She raised her head, giving a dignified nod in greeting.

"A very good day, now that the wind has died down."

Happy to hear she was enjoying the day, he gave her a wide smiled "Beauty," He agreed. though he himself didn't mind the wind too much. "How've you found the powder miss?"

Once Hottah got a better look he noticed it was a purple flutter mare with long braided hair. His semi messy forelock, hiding his deep ice blue eyes. he heart a soft hoot, His ears flicked forward as Hottah's attention shifted to the owl and his eyes sparkled. Just like the ones back home! How he'd missed seeing them more frequently.

"Oh Gee who's yer friend there?" Hottah asked smiling at the owl. He loved the winter animals. Then again he loved most animals. He was pretty friendly considering the dangers. He always tended to look on the bright side of things before he'd see anything bad. Supposing that made him easy to betray but Hottah didn't seem to mind. Everyone had their reasons, he just wanted to help. Pulling himself from the distraction of admiring the owl Hottah berated himself for not starting with his name. She probably thought he was a bit weird.

Introductions! he'd certainly forgotten "M'm sorry Miss, The name's Hottah." he said giving her a bit of a polite bow. He wondered silently if she needed help

How did she like it? She couldn't very well say she hated it. It seemed clear to her that this stallion quite enjoyed the snow, that would be a rude thing to answer with. But lying was just as bad. You did yourself, and everyone else around you, no favors when you lied. Even if it was about something that seemed small and insignificant, everything eventually came back to bite you.

"I am afraid I have not the hooves for walking through the snow," Celestia decided to answer with. Her feet were too heavy to do anything but sink down so she was standing up to her knees in the cold. "But it is pretty when it sparkles in the sunshine," she decided to add in, just to make sure she said something nice about it.

From her back, Hedwig gave another soft hoot, ruffling up her feathers as she always did when someone noticed her, looking proudly back at the stallion. Celestia gave a soft laugh at her companion. Always so vain.

"This is Hedwig," the Flutter replied, turning her head back around to smile softly back at him. "She says thank you, but I think she makes that very clear." Another hoot was made, this one a bit louder with a touch of a bite to it. Of course she could speak well for herself, even if she couldn't say the same words the equines could. Some birds were born without a voice. That was just the way of it. Hedwig always made sure she was heard. "Yes, I am sorry."

"And my name is Celestia. It is good to meet you, Hottah."

Hottah smiled widely back, she liked it! he was quite glad, her delicate wings were probably having a hard time though in the weather. they were thin and quite fragile looking. he noticed when he'd taken a better look at the owl. "Nice ta, meet ye both there, eh" he continued to smile.

The wind had died down quite a bit but a chill breeze still blew. Hottah could hear something and he wasn't sure what it was at first, it was inaudible but as he listened he became clearer. there was a soft crying on the wind. hottah turned away from the mare and her owl and started looking actually serious.

"I think something's hurt." Hottah said aloud as he started making his way toward the sound. the Stallion traveled a ways to find a female caribou trapped underneath a tree. "Easy, easy now." he said softly as he tried to calm her down. "We'll getcha out in no time der'"

he started taking a look at the tree, how best should he get her out without hurting her.

Ah huh. Sure did love it. Nothing awful about the cold. Everything was just fine.

At least these are things Celestia kept saying over and over in her head to make sure her face pretended to show it. He seemed so happy, she didn't want to ruin his mood with something unimportant like how she felt about a season that wouldn't even last forever.

Than the mood shifted and everything evaporated from her mind, to be replaced with worry. If only she had a unicorn or a kirin's healing. She wasn't sure what she could do, depending on the creature's size.

Hedwig launched herself from the mare's back, clearly heading towards the sound. She met Hottah there, hopping on the ground and hooting softly. Celestia, not made for the winter, approached a little bit behind them.

"Poor thing," she cooed. She bent her head down, nosing at the tree before shrinking and flying underneath it. She hoped her idea was obvious. If she went back to her bigger size while under it, she could lift it easily for a time. Maybe it would bounce out of the way, even.

the Caribou struggled startled by the two soq at first, she tried to get away, only to be painfully reminded about being pinned beneath the relatively large tree that had fallen over during the storm the night before. she'd half expected a predator to find her first not a pair of Soquili. She continued struggling, though not as enthusiastically as before, she just wanted to be able to run again. She continued to eye the Soquili suspiciously.

Hottah saw Celestia fly underneath the tree. He nodded to himself and carefully despite the struggling caribou lowered his head closer to the tree. If Celestia could raise the tree high enough he'd be able to throw it off the Doe.

"that's good dere' 'can ya raise it up a bit more." he asked the flutter. as he readied himself to throw the log. Once it was high enough he scooped it up in his horns and using his draft strength flipped the tree over clearing it off the Caribou. he watched the injured doe scamper some distance away and collapse a bit in the snow. She was quite exhausted it seemed.

Celestia had herself positioned under the tree to carry it all on her back. Flutter she may be. Small she may be, even when not shrunk, but she was still strong enough to carry this tree. At least with some help from Hottah, she could get it off the caribou easily. On her own, she might have some trouble pushing it away. Thus she hoped, at the least, that as she changed her size quickly, it would help give the tree enough momentum to carry it up and away from them all.

She wasn't sure if this was any reason why the Ceryni was able to do so so well. Stallions wer naturally stronger than mares and she was small, smaller than a lot of Soquili she'd met. Not that it mattered. All that mattered was the caribou was okay.

Now back to her original size, Celestia started to sink back down into the snow. She gave a little shiver as it touched her knees once more. Hedwig gave a hoot in response to seeing her friend big again, but didn't return to her perch on the Flutter's back. Instead, she flew over to the caribou, thinking a much smaller animal would be less scary. She stood there, waiting for the other two and offering what she hoped was a comforting presence. She wasn't scared by the two large equines, nor should the caribou.

Celestia followed, once more shrinking and flying over. The snow was far too deep for walking. She kept her distance, trying her best to offer a serene aura as she lowered her head to show she meant no threat. She wasn't sure how caribou non-verbally talked. This could be threatening for all she knew. She hoped the lack of antlers on her head didn't make this seem like she was about to charge.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice quiet and gentle.

The caribou eyed the two distrustfully, but knew she wasn't going to get to far without help. Resigning herself she did eventually let the larger buck approach. eyeing Hedwig she didn't change her stance much, she still wasn't sure why the bird.

"You'll be aight' there" Hottah nosed his way under the caribou carefully, once he was underneath. he straightened up, using his draft strength to hoist the caribou to its feet.

the caribou didn't struggle as the cerynei lifted her up. knowing she couldn't stay there, knowing one of her legs wouldn't support her.

Hottah turned to the flutter mare. "Would the both of ya mind helpin' me out with 'er there bud? i think she needs a bit' more help eh." He made a motion back to the location he had come from. he had spot.
