It had been a long, hot day in the Pridelands and Amri was thankful for the shade cast by Pride Rock. He'd spent the day hunting and had come up successful thanks to the hard work he and his small group had put in, securing a meal for them as well as a few others. It was tough to feed a pride as large as theirs but Amri did his best to ensure that bellies were full by the end of his turn on the savannah. Now, though, it was time to rest.
He flopped down in the shade cast by the massive rock formation with a sigh of relief and set about cleaning his paws, dragging his tongue through the fur to clean up the last of the blood and gore from his claws. His tail twitched and his hindquarters shook on their own accord to shoo the flies that gathered there, urging them on to find a different place to rest.
Once he was satisfied with the state of his paws, the blue male dropped his head to the ground and watched the world from a cockeyed point of view, taking in the sights and sounds of his home as the sun began to set. Despite being surrounded by all of his pridemates, the herds that lived here, and the flocks that came and went he couldn't help but feel a bit lonely. His family was large and wonderful and he had one sister in particular who spent a lot of time with him, but something was missing. He'd had a hard time figuring out what it was until recently when he'd watched Halisi and her cubs: a family.
For a lion like him that was difficult, though. He preferred males for one, and while the Pridelands didn't have any prejudice against that, it wasn't like if he did find someone to settle down with that they'd be able to have cubs of their own. Adoption was always a possibility...
"Get a grip, Amri," he muttered to himself, dropping a paw heavily across his eyes. "You don't even have someone to settle down with yet. Priorities."
