- ■ She was easily on track for a T in this class like many of the others she found boring or overall pointless but she managed to scrape a D with minimal studying and attention in class thanks to her brother's girlfriend and her friend, Calliope Whitethorne.
xxxCHARMS ~ Pxxx
- ■ Mattie is naturally talented in charms but not studying is a great way to not get a passing grade. She was too focused on her fluctuating moods and attempting to appear "normal" that she didn't find the energy to study for this class like all of her other OWLs.
xxxDEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS ~ Axxx
- ■ DADA was always Mattie's strongest class. Even without proper studying she got a strong Average. Obviously she could have done much better even O level if she had focused harder.
xxxHERBOLOGY ~ Txxx
- ■ "Boring as watching grass grow" is a saying for a reason. Even if Mattie found the time to study she doubted she would have spent much time on the subject. It also didn't help she set the testing plant on fire. (That was an accident, she swears!)
xxxHISTORY OF MAGIC ~ Txxx
- ■ Mattie preferred to see herself as a woman of action. Pouring over a history text book to learn a bunch about people who had been there and done that seemed like torture. Truthfully this was her lowest score even out of her Trolls.
xxxPOTIONS ~ Txxx
- ■ Patience was never Mattie's strong suit. This fact combined with her lack of studying and memorization of many of the most basic potions earned her a Troll.
xxxTRANSFIGURATION ~ Dxxx
- ■ While Mattie was not as naturally talented in transfiguration as charms she could have done well if she had studied and not gotten lost in what she almost felt was her own madness of fluctuating moods and the demands she felt from clubs. At least she didn't get a Troll? Truthfully she was close to getting a Poor. It would be still failing but less failing.

xxxHEALING ~ Pxxx
- ■ Having a mother as a military nurse and wanting to work as a mediwizard, Mattie paid sharp attention in Healing Class. Unfortunately for Mattie taking notes in class but not studying them or the textbook was a recipe for disaster. Considering she barely passed two of her OWLs, she has hopes that a calmer year will give her the ability to shine in such an important subject.
xxxMUSIC ~ EExxx
- ■ Mattie was a leader among the music club, a member since her first year, and sunk a great deal of energy into music. Music kept her sane she rationalized and a year of ups and downs caused her to throw herself into music all the more. She knew enough about music to know she was never going to be a prodigy but she was confident she was talented and it showed.
xxxWANDLESS ~ Dxxx
- ■ In class Mattie would say she was better at wandless than many of her peers even if she was far from the best in the class. Between not studying for the written portion of the exam and a melt down 3 minutes before the exam was it a wonder she failed the exam with a Dreadful?
xxxCURSEBREAKING ~ Dxxx
- ■ Mattie has a love/hate relationship with cursebreaking. Staying still and solving puzzles was annoying but she did like being right and solving something others couldn't solve. Still, her habit of not studying during her fifth year mostly due to the inability to focus earned her another Dreadful.
xxxWIZARD LAW ~ Txxx
- ■ In theory Wizard Law should be simple. Rules and regulations that were mostly common sense. But remembering the names of everything and dates, no thanks. Besides, Mattie swore she would have flashbacks of Sir or Ma'am (or both) lecturing her on some infraction she may have caused. Having your overbearing military parents in the back of your already cluttered mind whenever you opened your Wizard Law book to study was a good way to end up with a headache and the book shoved in her bag five minutes later. Unfortunately that form of "studying" is a good way to fail an exam.
*NOTE: Due to Mattie's fragile mental health and over ambition in various clubs (even after her professors required her to lower the number of clubs she led), Mattie found time to study for her exams something she struggled to balance. As a result she failed most of her exams and did worse even in the couple exams she did pass. She will need to retake her 5th year due to this but thankfully her parents will get her the psychiatry help she needed even if it is 2 years late.
