Aisha and Raabi'a were out spending a generally-lovely day by the village's nearby fishing docks. Compared to the rest of their facilities, they weren't used nearly as often, but they were still crucial to maintain as an easy food source. While some might think a limited degree of use would contribute to them lasting longer, it also meant that early warning signs of disrepair or risks could go unnoticed until they became a bigger problem.

Right now, the twins were busied on adjacent docks with installing guardrails on the edges. A child had recently fallen off the pier's edge and into the lake and, while they had been fine, it meant that steps needed to be taken to reduce the likelihood of it happening again. Hence the rails. It wasn't particularly difficult work, just detailed and time consuming.

Aisha leaned against the last-installed railing as she took a break, a bowl of freshly-poured shellfish cream stew from a nearby vendor filling it. Boy did that smell amazing! They'd even had some slices of unleavened bread to go with it.

Covey was also entranced by the smell. It seemed to waft over to where she was floating, full seal mode, in the waters just off the shore. She had decided to take a sun bath, as the day was seasonably warm and inviting. She may have been the only seal in the lake, but it was still nice. All the local aquatic creatures didn't seem to mind her when she was in full seal form. So she had just....stayed that way.

It didn't hinder her appetite, as she was just as fine with the mollusks and freshwater clams as the next person. As well as all manner of lake fish. But that SMELL!!

Flipping from her back, she tried to figure out where the smell came from. It was then she noticed the pae on the pier. Oh, yes. She'd heard of this part of shore side culture. Their culinary cuisine was much talked about. Though she'd never been brave enough to try it herself.

But it had been days since she'd walked on two legs. And her skin was kind of itchy. And well, she just wanted to try whatever was causing that smell.

But she had to be careful. She wasn't so sure the land pae were as nice as their food smelled. So she swam in seal form towards the dock.

Aisha was making her delight clearly visible as she pulled out a spoon and scooped up her meal, brought it close to her lips, blew softly to cool it, and then took it into her mouth. Oh how lovely was this flavor! The slightly salty brineness but lingering sweetness of the freshwater oysters, the meaty mouthful of the snails, the umami soaked in from kelp... All harmonized by the lightly salted cream broth, a mix of shellfish fish bone stock with smoked goats cheese, simmered until a creamy consistency.

She then dipped a corner of the bread in - oh, the nutty earthiness paired well with the broth.

Aisha continued enjoying her meal as she looked out over the lake's surface - oh, look at those cute animals. How precious.

DaemonGabrielle
Maybe she should try her hand at getting a bite in seal form. Swimming up to the base of the dock, she tried to think would garner a pae giving her a bite of food. Maybe if she did a trick?

Stopping just below Aisha, she broke the surface of a mild wave amd gave a loud seal bark. Which sounded like one would expect, a smoky and deep cough. She let off another couch, then waited for the young lady to see her. She had plans to wave at her if all went well. Land pae loved rewarding animals with treats for tricks, right?

Aisha blinked, then leaned forward, as one of the little lake critters swam closer. Ooooh~ She'd never seen something like that before - what even was it? She took a bite out of her soaked bread and scooched a little closer to the edge to keep watching its movement. She turned back to catch Raabi'a's attention. Did she see this?! Oh, her sister didn't seem interested. Oh well. Aisha looked back at the seal and got a spoonful of soup.

Delicious.

DaemonGabrielle
The fire spun coat of her seal coat sparkled in dismay as she realized that just being here wasn't enough for the land pae to share. She she threw a hand up and waved at her. Then she went on her back and spun a few times.

Again. Land pae liked tricks, right? She had seen some furry things that land pae adored fetching things like stone and balls. Maybe a seal could do the same?

She swam to the bottom of the waves and picked up a sea rock in it's mouth. Then swam back up and spit it at the land pae.

Yes. She was going to play fetch with this paeson.

Daisicle
Oooh! Aisha gasped at this peculiar creature, doing all sorts of peculiar things. Why, never in her life had she seen an animal doing performances just impromptu! It was certainly delightful!

She took another bite of soup and watched with great enthusiasm. Hmm, what was it leaving a rock for? How weird. Having never had a pet nor been familiar with one, she was likewise unfamiliar with the concept of "fetch."

DaemonGabrielle
Covey grew frustrated. The land pae didn't seem to u dertsand her desire for soup. Thinking, she quickly reorganized her plan. Diving down into the water, she quickly swam to under the docks, and then booped her hungry butt out of her skin.

She hadn't had many land pae interaction, so she hoped she wasn't making a mistake. But the soup was almost gone and her now fully grown sized stomach gave a rumble. Wishing herself luck, she rolled up her skin, and tucked it under her arm. Then she somehow managed to find a way onto the town pier.

Giving her self a mental pep talk as she walked, she finally reached where the land pae was sitting and opened her mouth to say excuse me.

Except what came out was a pae garbled version of a seal bark. Oh dear. Seemz she was a bit rusty. . .

Aisha's expression quickly changed to one of shock as the cute animal swam over to the lakeshore... and seemed to just... expel a fully-grown pae from its innards. She gaped without any consideration for manners as she silently watched this most curious and disturbing spectacle. Then the creature moved closer... and closer... She looked back to check she wasn't imagining anything, but her sister was taking a little nap and unable to confirm.

Upon returning her eyes back, the female was far closer to her than they'd been, and Aisha let out a yelp and visibly jumped. The eerie noise it made only spooked her further, and she scrambled backwards, knocking the rest of her meal over onto the pier and hitting her back on the guardrail.

Looked like it was already doing good work, much to Aisha's chagrin.

DaemonGabrielle
Covey was startled as well. The yelping and the jumping wouldn't have normally been ignored but the food was going overboard!

"Your soup!" She yelled out clearly this time, watching in dismay as the delicious smelling food ran off the pier and into the ocean. "It smelled so good to." She mused sadly, turning an eye from the food towards the landpae.

Taking a closer look, she realized she had missed some social cues. Some major social cues. An embarrased blush crossed her cheeks, and she suddenly went shy now that she realized her gaf in etiquette. "Oh. Um. Hi?" She said, looking left and right to maybe find the best exit.

Daisicle
Aisha just stared at Covey with confusion and fear in her eyes. Her soup? Who cared about soup?!? An animal just vomited a pae!

The embarrassment of the other one was met with disbelief and silent terror.

DaemonGabrielle
FINALLY noticing that the other pae seemed heavily alarmed, she backed up a step. She wasn't known to be rude but somehow she had been very rude to this pae. "I apologize. I must have....overstepped some boundaries. Should i go?" She asked, pointing back to the sea. "I should go."

It seemed her voice, at first hoarse and a little shakey, had taken on in strength and she was quickly getting used to the different muscle expenditure that talking required, instead of barking as a seal.

"I really am sorry."

Aisha silently nodded in agreement with Cotes astute observation - yes, yes she should probably just go. There was going to be little breaking through Aisha's shock in this moment regarding what she'd just witnessed.

And the soup was long gone at this point, not that she knew why this other thing was so concerned about it.

DaemonGabrielle
So off covey ran. Down into the bay and back put of sight. Her first trip to speak with a land pae had gone horrible wrong. Why oh why had she dropped the soup?
