Alarick had written his rules on the chalkboard at the front of the room on the first day of class - he hated the chalk board. He wondered if he could find someone to turn the chalkboard into a white board. or just. magic all words in the air? He shrugged, he would see to it another day.
Now, he kind of knew who the kids were, and was ready to teach them. He wasn't sure if he had them all convinced that they didn't need a textbook - why spend extra money on something when the library was right there? He had planned to do short notes for all his classes, and it had worked pretty well last year - or at least no one had complained directly to him (except August of course, who had assigned many textbooks).
He jotted some notes on the chalk board as he waited for everyone to come in, he was most excited about this class - his daughter was in it and he loved seeing his little girl.

Aria loved charms. It was a part of her family's legacy both good and bad. She could not think of anyone with the Avery blood that was bad at charms. Of course the Avery blood was not blood to pride oneself on. Her great grandparents were monsters who killed her grandfather partially to try to gain custody of her aunt Leah. Still, Aria was determined to use her gift at charms for the betterment of the world. Someone had to make up for the past Averys though her uncle David was a mediwizard so that was good.
Taking a seat, Aria quickly pulled out paper and a self-inking quill. The summoning charm. Fun and useful. While Aria originally found Professor Lorien-Knapp's unconventional approach to teaching a bit jarring Aria was beginning to find it charming in its own way. She was sure she was learning so that was the important thing.
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Not your mother, indeed Looking for bigger, better things, are you? Well, I'm sure you'll find them in Gryffindor!

Charms was one of Ron’s best subjects, what his mother termed ‘bread and butter’ magic, meaning one really couldn’t call themselves a proper wizard if one couldn’t cast them. As it was, he felt comfortable casting Charms, which was more than he could say about one of his least favourite subjects, Defense Against the Dark Arts.
What he wasn’t quite sure what to make of yet, was their teacher, Professor Alarick Lorien-Knapp. Just seeing what was on the chalkboard was all he needed to know the man was a bit eccentric, but, for the Wizarding World, this was a trait which was par-for-the-course. As it was, if the professor’s unconventional approached helped him to learn how magic worked, Ron was of the mind to pay attention all the more. If nothing else, it might give him useful insights for his other classes.
Arriving at class, he was unsurprised to see Aria was already there, getting herself prepared for class. Ron gave her a warm smile, as took a seat beside her, and got his own class notes and fountain pen out.

Taylor was surprised to see she was one of the first students to arrive to Charms class, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t in a particularly chatty mood. Prior to class, she had stopped in the girls’ bathrooms to not only use the loo, but to also gossip with her fellow schoolmates. Alas, 13:00 rolled around and it was time for yet another boring class. She wasn’t particularly good at charms, but she wasn’t dreadful either. Upon walking in, she took notice of her housemates immediately. “Ron, Aria – hey!” she called out, rushing over to sit next to the boy. Even when the two had choices of any seat in the room, of course they sat together. Taylor highly doubted that they didn’t fancy each other, and may have also started a rumour many moons ago that they were secretly dating. She didn’t mean for that to become a rumour – she was only discussing with her friends and others that listened nearby that she didn’t believe they weren’t dating.
Regardless of their secret love life, Taylor knew both Aria and Ronald were pretty good in charms, even with Professor Lorien-Knapp’s unconventional methods of teaching (and writing – which Taylor thought was both atrocious and beautiful at the same time. After all, his letters looked fun and swirly, and she’d be lying if she said she hadn’t tried doodling letters in the same format). It sure made reading the chalkboard by glancing at it difficult at times. Speaking of the chalkboard, it looked like they’d be learning Accio today, a summoning charm. “How’s your spell work coming along?” Taylor asked, wanting to bring up the idea of them helping her out in this class considering OWLs were going to crash down on her hard next year if she didn’t start practicing now. Plus, if they (namely Ron) scratched her back, she could scratch theirs. Her defensive magic was pretty strong, and as far as she had heard, Ronald struggled with Defense Against the Dark Arts.
