(This is an RP between me and Tefla, do not post unless you are one of us. You may, however, read it and enjoy. This also includes an NPC attacker (played by me), for the RP game for this month.)

Aiyana had been out for a walk in the herd lands, wanting to stretch her legs and make sure everything was going well. She knew she had a lot of others who would patrol their borders or make sure everyone was cared for. That usually made her feel relatively safe, but she did like to check around herself. After all, she was one of the alphas of Odakota, it was her duty to make sure no one needed anything or there was not any threats. The pink haired mare listened to the sounds around her, nothing but her hoofsteps and the sound of nature around her. Yes, this was a beautiful night, she thought to herself, feeling at ease for the moment.

As she got to the edge, she didn't expect to hear a snarl and then she got pounced by what seemed to be a bat winged wolf. She tried to fight them off, but they were strong, she even had Yamka who had appeared trying to dive bomb the wolf. Something was familiar about this wolf, but her mind was in staying alive mode to keep her from thinking on it too much. She kicked at the wolf, though cried out in pain as they bit into that exact hoof she used.

"You took something from me, you witch! I will make you pay!"the wolf snarled angrily, before it attacked her head too, causing more whinnies of fear to slip passed her lips. She was starting to feel light headed, feeling the stickiness of her own blood. She thought she heard the shouts of someone coming, causing pressure from the wolf to slide off her. Her head fell to the ground, as the mare slipped out of consciousness. (WC: 291)

A gentle breeze teased the mahogany tresses of her mane as Lavender pushed herself to go further out into the unfamiliar sections of the land that the Odakota herd called home. She had been fortunate enough to have been able to reside here for as long as she had. There were times that she wondered how the rest of her family fared without her around. She especially missed her oldest sister. On rare occasions Lavender was able to recall the look on her sister's face as she had stormed off after an argument that they had had. Black locks of her sister's mane had hidden the hurt look and her sister's pale body had shifted almost perceptively as if she had wished to chase after Lavender but her duties to the family held her firmly in place.

Her sister had been the chief healer. Lavender would have learned in due time all that Ebony would have been able to teach her but she had been young, impatient, and stubborn. She wanted the knowledge now, instead of later down the road and that had caused the rift between the sisters.

Thinking on Ebony once more, Lavender almost didn't acknowledge the sounds coming from a direction that was slightly to her left. But the whinny of a mare in pain drew the unicorn up short. Her gaze flicked back from the direction in which she had come before she hastily broke into a gallop towards the sounds of an attack. Whatever was going on - Lavender didn't have time to go back and fetch help. She'd have to drive off the attacker(s) and help whomever it was that had made the horrible sounds of being wounded.

The winged wolf could see the pink haired mare was out like a light, but there was definitely the sounds of approaching hooves coming quickly in this direction. The wolf's ears flicked forward, wondering if this person was someone they could take or not. They knew they had gotten lucky before, having been staking out the territory before the attack. The herd had some strong Soquili, some of them shifters, from what he could see. He remembered being disgusted that they would be here, but then remembered siblings of his had been taken in by this herd as well, ones he felt had been turned against their natures. The talk of being happy that had been overheard made him snarl in remembrance.

The sounds of whoever was coming was getting closer, he would have to make a decision quickly. He looked around, before running into the shadows, to watch what would happen. A soft moan from the unconscious mare could be heard, he could see the blood he had left. How much damage he had caused the white and blue mare, he could not say. However, he supposed it was only a matter of time before he found out. He just had to stay out of sight, in case whoever was coming was one of those charmed shifters. His senses were attuned to everything, their form blending in with the shadows. If this was not one of the stronger members of the herd, maybe he would get to take his anger out on another. Though, he might be hunted, if he made more damage than he already did. Maybe it would be best just for him to stay out of sight. (WC: 281, total for me- 572. Total for RP:855)

The sounds of an attack had suddenly stopped. Lavender slowed her pace and scanned the horizon. There didn't seem to be any figure fleeing in the distance and that worried the unicorn mare. Her gaze picked up on the figure that was motionless on the ground from where she stood and she hastily moved towards whomever it was. Friend or foe, herd-member or complete stranger; Lavender did not know and wouldn't hesitate to offer her healing services to any that needed it. Her nostrils flared at the strong musky odor that briefly assailed her nose before shaking it off.

A shock of vibrant pink hair made Lavender almost cry out in shock. This was not just any herd-member of Odakota. It was one of the leaders: Aiyana. Quickly Lavender closed the distance between herself and the leader before kneeling at the downed mare's side. Flesh had been torn and perhaps that was the easiest place to start with her healing. However Lavender was not so unwary that she paused to scan the horizon again. Violet orbs lingered on likely hiding places before she lowered her head to allow her horn to come into contact with some of the wounds that had been inflicted during whatever battle had occurred. Lavender let her healing magic flow into Aiyana in small bursts. Ebony would have been able to do a much better job even under similar conditions. Gifted healers were rare, but Ebony had been a class apart from everyone else.

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts Lavender focused on the here and now. Aiyana needed aid and she was the right mare for the job. But yet the feeling of being watched still lingered. Was Aiyana's attacker still out there?

Yamka had tried her best to protect her bonded, but it seemed her efforts had not been enough. Once the attacker seemed to leave, least that was what she hoped he did, she took to the air enough to make sure it wasn't another threat coming this way. A relief came from the little bat as she saw it was one of their herd, Lavender to be exact. She came down closer to where Aiyana was, watching as the unicorn worked on the more obvious injuries of her beloved bonded. She was so upset that this had happened and she couldn't do a thing to prevent it. She didn't know what that winged wolf's problem was, but Aiyana had not hurt them at all. Though there was something familiar about the figure, she thought. However, it was not time to think of that, she would stay near the new mare's as Lavender worked on her bonded.

"Lavender, I think that...evil thing would have done more, had they not heard you coming. They told Aiyana that she took something from them, but I don't know what that might of been. I think it was a wolf shifter, with bat wings. It..reminds me of some of our members, the look was similar to them,"the bat explained quickly to the unicorn mare. That was right, the wolf looked like some of their members, ones they had helped by getting them charmed. Ones who had become loyal members of the herd, she realized. So, was this a family member of their's? (WC: 258, total for me- 830. Total for RP:1,402)

The fluttering of leathery type wings had Lavender jerking her head up from where she was tending to some of the wounds that she hadn't managed to reach yet. These lacerations around Aiyana's face were concerning but Lavender gently laid her horn over each one and willed the flesh to knit back together. As the sound of wings grew closer though Lavender had ceased her magic before recognizing the source of what she was hearing.

"Yamka," and here was a small sigh of relief before she laid her horn against Aiyana again. She listened to the story of the attack and frowned before speaking again, "I don't like what this is sounding like to me. But we need to get Aiyana awake and away from here before we can discuss things."

Once more did she lay her horn over a nasty wound and watched as it seemingly healed itself completely. Rising to her hooves Lavender glanced around before nearly faltering before she straightened. That was another thing she had missed by leaving as she had. A central lesson that was crucial to her family ... endurance healings. What was done was done though. "Yamka, I've done what I can to heal the more serious wounds but we need to get Aiyana alert enough to travel. I'm not liking what I've heard in regards to what led to this attack because it sounds like this is just the beginning."

Lavender leaned over Aiyana's form and gently nosed at the mare's side before repeating the gesture. Movement registered in her vision but from a far off distance. Whatever was out there would be back, she could feel it. "C'mon Aiyana ... sleeping now is not a good idea. Come back to us, you are worrying Yamka."

Yamka noticed how alert Lavender had become, she should have realized that she might startle the unicorn. It hadn't been her intention, but with what had just happened, she should have expected it. After all, she had been on edge herself, when she had heard someone coming this way after the attack. While she had hoped it was one of the herd, she had been cautious at the same time. It seemed Lavender had been too, but thankfully had finally seen who it was. She nodded her head, she hadn't liked the look or sound of it either. Knowing those members of their herd, they would not be thrilled to find out this happened to a friend either.

"I agree, we need to wake Aiya and get out of here as soon as possible. I do not feel safe, like I am being watched and not in a good way. If we can get back to the others, I will feel better and know that whatever issue this most likely shifter has, Aiya will be safe with family and friends,"the bat agreed. She watched in amazement as Lavender worked, it was always so impressive to see unicorns at work. She carefully lowered herself down near Aiyana's face, nuzzling her muzzle gently.

"Mmm, what...is going on?"Aiyana's voice began weakly, her eyes opening slowly. Her emerald orbs took in Yamka in front of her and Lavender kneeling beside her. She found herself on the ground, trying to remember what happened. She lifted her head slightly, remembering teeth and claws with a shiver. She didn't see the culprit, but knew it did not mean they were not lurking somewhere. (WC: 277, total for me- 1,107. Total for RP:1,971)

Lavender listened as Yamka spoke but kept her attention focused on Aiyana's form. She wasn't sure she liked the confirmation from the small bat that she still felt like she was being watched. Lavender felt it too. The sensation of a malevolent gaze that set the hairs on the back of one's neck to standing on edge. She glanced around once more before once more nudging at Aiyana's side with a gentle motion. All the wounds had been healed, satisfactorily, but they would probably still pain the other mare for a few days. Lavender could make sure that she visited to keep checking on the progress of the healing of the wounds.

As Aiyana stirred finally Lavender gave a small sigh of relief and moved to be a bulwark of stability against Aiyana's side if the alpha needed someone to lean against. "I'm not sure I have the complete picture of what's going on Aiyana but I think Yamka could fill you in," here Lavender paused before sighing in regret. "I don't feel like it's my place to guess at events prior to my arrival. You are in passable shape to travel though. At least I think you are. Is there any place that is still causing you pain?"

Lavender would love to put distance between whatever had attacked Aiyana and there current location but she had to be sure that the alpha was up to making the trek back to safer quarters.

'If only Ebony were here,' was the rueful thought as she glanced towards Aiyana as she moved to rise to her hooves, 'she would have had Aiyana up in no time flat without breaking a sweat. And the wounds wouldn't have to be tended over a period of days following.'

Aiyana listened as Lavender responded, she supposed the other had not been around for the attack. She looked to her bat familiar, who definitely had relief in her eyes that she was awake. She was sure Yamka would explain what she knew, once they got moving back to the main part of the herd. Now that she was awake, even she felt the ominous presence that seemed to be lurking and watching them. It sent a shiver through the white and blue mare, before she focused her attention back on Lavender saying she should be good to go. As she was asked about how she felt, if there was any pain, she slowly moved each of her limbs. She winced softly at one of her hooves, but it wasn't the worst she had been through.

"One of my hooves still hurts, but I am pretty sure that is because of that injury I sustained awhile back. The one that put me out of commission and we worried I wouldn't be the same after? It was when Star went to speak to the Wishing Star and we were blessed. I think I should be alright,"Aiyana responded. Using what support Lavender provided, she got shakily up on her hooves. She took some steps, to get her feet back under her, even if it was a bit wobbly at first. However, she seemed to be more sure with each step that she took. It hurt some still, but she knew it could be a lot worse, had been before Lavender found her.

"Oh thank goodness, it is good to see you up. I think it is best to get out of here, before something else happens. Sooner we get back to the main area, the better Star and Hoshi will feel. Me too, for that matter. We can have Hoshi and Asphodel, along with some of the others looking for our unwanted guest,"Yamka suggested.

"Yes, that would be best, so we can make sure no one else gets hurt. Plus, I am sure Star and Hoshi are worried about me, along with Mom and Dad. Oh and my sisters. Thank you, Lavender, for your hard work with healing me. I am sure it would have been bad if you hadn't shown up when you did,"Aiyana spoke to both.

There was a look of quiet contemplation on Lavender's face as she took in Aiyana's thanks for her healing work. Inwardly she brushed it aside. There was still a lot more that she could have learned of the healing arts. She was only working with the knowledge that she knew. Her lessons had been incomplete. She bowed her head at the praise though that was given to her by the alpha of her herd before letting her gaze remain alert when she brought her head back up to scan the area. That feeling of being watched still remained and she shied once before returning to watch Aiyana's progress. The mention of a hurt hoof from a while back had Lavender frowning. Another injury that was probably too old to be treated properly.

She flicked her tail idly before giving a small sigh of relief as they neared the central part of the herd. Soon she could allow others in the herd to discuss what plans could be drawn up to deal with this new threat. Lavender felt that as a healer, unless her services were without a doubt needed that such a meeting would not benefit her. She could do more good by shoring up the supplies of healing herbs that often accompanied those in the healing craft. One couldn't rely on magic alone all the time. The urge to admit to Aiyana that she had only just been lucky enough to be able to do something about her wounds suffered in the attack was stuck on her tongue. She couldn't admit how woefully inept she truly was, could she? Would it be better if she could seek out Ebony and either learn what she had missed out on ... or maybe better yet, bring her sister to Odakota? These were options. She wasn't the only one here that had healing skills, maybe she could take a short leave of absence to seek out her familial lines and learn what it truly meant to be a healer. Maybe ... just maybe that was a solution.

Making the choice to leave, albeit temporarily, became the number one priority after escorting Aiyana safely home. Lavender would of course leave word with the alphas before departing, but she felt like this needed to be done. The will to heal was not enough anymore. Lavender needed to obtain the rest of the knowledge that she had once turned her back on.

Aiyana felt as Yamka landed into her curly mane, knowing her little bat needed time to be close to her. She knew the little familiar knew how she could have easily lost her and knew how much that would have hurt her. Not only that, if Lavender had not shown up, no matter what, Yamka would have had to fly to get help. The thought that she might have had to tell the herd, had she not made it, sent a shiver through her spine. The picture in her mind of Star, her children, her parents, and her siblings finding out made her feel sick. Not to mention her herd, no that was not something she wanted to happen for a long time. So as much as Yamka needed to feel close, she needed it as much as her little bonded needed it.

With one more look into the shadows, she turned to head for home, least where the main section of the herd was. She thought she had seen eyes glowing in the bushes, but hoped if it was the threat, they would leave them alone. As they got further away from that area, she allowed herself a chance to take a breath, looking to Lavender who was quiet all this time since they had set out for where everyone would be. She could only imagine the other mare was deep in her own thoughts, whatever those may be. She did hope the unicorn would know that she could always talk to them and they would understand. However, she would allow her to sort through them herself, just leave it open, if she wanted to speak about it. Her own mind was going through what to tell Star and Hoshi when she got back, knowing they would be the first that needed to be talked to. After that, she would need to tell the rest of her family, since even though she was pretty much healed, there would be evidence of the attack. She didn't want them to worry, but she knew they would fuss over her anyway. Then the guardians, so they would be on alert, for keeping an eye out for her attacker. Lastly, the rest of the herd, so they would stay safe and sound, maybe even start using the buddy system.

As soon as they got to the center of the herd, where the meadow was, she allowed herself more of a chance to breathe. She thanked Lavender again, letting her know she could come talk to her whenever. Then she went in search of her mate and her brother, to let them know what happened. Today, a new enemy was made, but maybe one day they could help the shifter like they had their family. Only time would tell, for now, time to prepare for the here and now.
