's**t.' Haunt knew the wind shifted. He'd lose the game at this rate. Haunt was curled in a ball inside the trunk of a hallow tree. He cursed again and slid the bark he had put up to hide the hole aside and slipped from the tree. He'd need a new hiding spot.
'Damn wind.' Haunt huffed and crept silently up the tree to the top of the branches. He leapt, trying to reach another tree fifteen feet away. He didn't land on the branch he had planned, but he landed on a lower branch. He slunk around the trunk of the tree to reach a branch on the other side. He sniffed, knowing that his time was limited. Climbing higher into the tree, he took another leap, landing in yet another tree. Using this strategy, Haunt made it miles away from his hiding spot, close to the warren he and his brothers lived in. Haunt knew his scent would get mixed up with his brothers, but also his earlier scents. He dropped nimbly to the ground and raced through the clearing of the warren. He passed into the forest on the other side. He had several hollowed trees that he could hide in. But first, a bath as he splashed through a river that cut through the forest.
Masking his scent was easy. As he left the river, Haunt rolled through a bed of lavender, planted just for this occasion.
That task done, Haunt took off to one of his hollow trees.

"Brother, you promised me we could go see the aria in the meadow." She pouted as she followed behind her taller, older brother, Legolas. He didn't care for music like she did. In fact, Aierlinn couldn't find any similarities between her and Legolas. Sometimes she wondered if he were adopted. She and her full brother, Aweneth, looked exactly like their mother and father, Inithia and Thranduil. Legolas didn't even have the same last name as her! He was a Greenleaf, and she was Thranduiliell. Why she wasn't Inithiaiell, she didn't know, but still! She at least shared her name with her family.

"Why should I have to endure such amateur music when we can listen to the music of the forest?" Legolas asked as he led his little sister through the wood. "You need only listen, sister. Besides, I heard there was a monster attacking the innocent fae here. It's our duty to keep those in our lands safe." Legolas had been excited to hear he was getting siblings, but since his half-sister's mother was so busy with whatever her duties were, he got saddled with raising the girl. And Legolas was too young and too, as humble as he wanted to be, handsome, to be tethered to his sister. He wanted to be out, wooing the females, feeling the mighty warrior that he was. Which he couldn't do, touting about a sister who couldn't fight to save her life.
