He'd made camp for the day. He was chasing rumors of a vampire somewhere out in the area, but it'd been days and he'd seen no sign yet. He wasn't deterred though. Sooner or later he or Pip would locate the monster and put it down. He was leaning against a stone, Pip on his knee. Xander gave him a little scratch behand the ears, which pleased the bat greatly. He'd made a makeshift cave for the bat to sleep in and placed him in it to settle in. They'd eaten already but Xander wanted to sit up with the fire and watch the sun fully rise before going to sleep. He didn't feel particularly tired, but he knew sleep was important to keep up his strength. Still, after the sun rose he still felt awake so he decided to let Pip sleep and took a little walk along the river they had camped near.

Mistress had been up all night tracking rumors of a vampire in the area. She had spent the night traveling what seemed like a remote part of Faetasia, and while she had hoped to catch the beast's trail, she had yet to find hide nor hair of the demon.

The wretched beast was no where to be found, and though it aggravated her, Mistress wasn't ready to give in. Though she often slept during the day, sometimes the best work could be done with the sun out, and vampires kept at bay.

Unfortunately, all her tracking the night prior meant she was covered in grit. While Mistress wasn't the sort to worry about being unkempt, she was vain enough to know when a quick dip in a neighboring stream might be beneficial. She was hunting solo at present, and while there was no one to impress, the cold, morning water would help keep her awake. Her little bat had hid himself among her things -- she often kept a makeshift hide for him when her travels kept her out during morning light.

Stripping down, tucking her things against some stones near the river bank, Mistress didn't hesitate to slip into the cold water. It was just deep enough to be refreshing, and allowed her to get rid of some of the mud and muck that covered her, and any stench left from the night's hunt. She made sure to keep herself downwind from where she was headed. As far as she could tell, she was alone in the woods. So it was, she pulled herself up to settle upon a few stones, and let the morning sun dry her hair and fur.

which is why she bristled when her bath was interrupted by a stranger.

She heard Xander before she saw him, and instinct had her immediately ready to throw down and fight. There were stones hidden among the riverbed, but she was no stranger to using her hands, teeth, and nails to fight. She was anything but helpless, after all...

However, she knew whoever approached could be no vampire. But that didn't mean they weren't, perhaps, a threat. So it was, she kept herself lounging upon the stones, and waited. The melting morning mist by the water's edge didn't quite allow her to see clearly who approached-- perhaps they would pass by none the wiser.

He wasn't usually careless enough to literally stumble upon a stranger, but there was a first time for everything. Perhaps he was still distracted by all of that excitement at the temple. He had been there to witness the event, but was gone soon after. He had work to do, after all. Still, the implications of a new Angelique at the temple weighed on him and he was pondering his position in the temple when he was suddenly nearly stepping on another zamphir! He jumped back instinctively into a fighting stance, teeth bared and blades out but only for the blink of an eye before he relaxed into a standing position. He kept his blades out and while he affected a casual demeanor someone with a trained eye could notice he was staying balanced and poised to leap into action if necessary.

Xander was used to interacting with his kind, since he serves in the temple with many others. This one before him was a stranger, however, and zamphirs are not inherently kind creatures. "Sorry to intrude," he said, offering a half-sarcastic bow, keeping her gaze. "I can't argue that it's a nice morning to spend time along the river, but I have to wonder what has brought you out here?" Had he stumbled upon her hunt? Or was it the other way around? He often worked with the zamphirs from the temple when needed, but would this stranger be as open to that idea or would she want the kill for herself? He studied her carefully, trying to gauge what sort of hunter she was.
