xxxPERSONALITYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

HARDWORKING Paddy Boss has always made it clear that everyone has a role to play and a job to do. And the Paddy Gang does it. Callum believes in earning his keep and puts his all in making sure he does.
LOYAL An ounce of kindness and honesty towards Callum goes a long way. If you show you are worth it you will earn Callum's unwavering, undying loyalty just like the Paddy Gang.
IRRITABLE/ANGRY Emotional calm was never modeled properly for Callum between his parents explosive fights and profane ridden rants towards the police and government alike by the gang or about rival gangs in Dublin and close by he thought being angry is normal. Worse, Callum is not naturally patient and the small things like a clicking pen just makes him go crazy.
HONEST The Paddy Gang (Callum included) might have sticky fingers but they have honesty too. Callum might be a thief and a lookout and a distraction but he is not going to lie when it counts.
CUTTHROAT Look life is tough. Some people get born with a silver spoon in their mouth and the rest of the world gets everything from a tin fork to a mouthful of ash. This isn't Callum's problem, it is just the way things are. If he has to con a few silver spoon fed sods to get so much as a fork for himself how is that his problem? He has no problem cheating and stealing his way up the ladder. Just another form of work, right? He's just like Robin Hood without being bogged down by beggars too lazy to do something themselves.
WILLFUL Callum has lived in a harsh world despite the Paddy Gang's kindness (he assumes because he is useful) and it quickly forms a black and white view of the world around him. He knows what is right and what is wrong and no one is going to change his mind. Well, probably Paddy Boss but the boss is always right, right?

xxxBACKSTORYxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

EARLY CHILDHOOD Robert Snatch and Marta McKelley were parents to Callum in the loosest sense of the word. Robert argued he wasn't even the real dad to Callum as Marta and him were going through their bi-monthly break-up. A paternity test proved Robert Snatch the father and he demanded Callum Edward McKelley be renamed Callum Robert Snatch since the kid was his. That in many ways was the most ownership either took for Callum. Until Robert's mother died when Callum was four he had some stability while his parents were hitting the pubs, the cheaper bottles at home, and hits at each other. The small fortune was the couple cared so little for their son they forgot he was there to even consider involving him in their fights. Mrs. Snatch tried to help her grandson but it was impossible to do much from the grave.

Callum tried to avoid his parents as much as possible once he stopped seeing "Ma Snatch" not understanding why she never came around anymore. His parents were fighting again so four year old Callum toddled to the front step and stood in the rain. Perhaps Ma Snatch was looking down and protecting the boy as it was Fat Paddy who saw him and not someone with worse intentions. Fat Paddy just needed an innocent looking look-out. He held out a pie, offered a warm jacket, and said the pie could be Callum's if he just pretended to sleep for two hours and wake up screaming if anyone but Fat Paddy called him. Callum tottered away with the man and three hours later with hands sticky with pie he was back on his door step. His parents didn't even notice he was gone.

Fat Paddy took a liking to the boy and soon he, Rat, Hotshot, Tom-Tom, Faye and even sometimes Paddy Boss began to look out for the boy. Callum even sought out their company when his parents came to blows again. He could be gone for half a day or more and his parents never noticed. They never seemed to notice him. By eight, Callum was regularly ditching school (what good was school?) and getting into fights. He almost broke another boy's nose after he tripped Callum and almost broke his knuckles in the process. Callum had to be pulled off from the other boy by the principal who liked to lift weights in his free time. Swearing and bloody was hardly a good look for Callum and thus his parents were called. Or they would have been if he didn't give Fat Paddy's number.

When Paddy Boss walked into the office, Callum feared he made a horrid mistake. He hadn't planned for the boss to come! Instead, Paddy Boss introduced himself as "Uncle Patrick" and a lecture in a quiet tone that did more good than any shouting or fists would ever have done for Callum. Paddy Boss in that even tone explained that school was Callum's job and everyone in their family did their jobs and carry their weight. That night, Callum slept on Paddy Boss's couch to find Tom-Tom, Paddy Boss's partner, ironing his uniform cleaned of blood. Tom-Tom walked Callum down to school where he taught Callum how to throw a proper left hook without nearly breaking (or worse breaking) a knuckle.

Callum understood Paddy Boss's instructions and quickly put effort into school. It was his role.

His parents didn't seem to notice Callum was missing until a week and a half later when a pig police officer met him at school insisting he come home. The officer even wanted to arrest "Uncle Patrick" for kidnapping but the officer also had a question for his parents: why did it take them so long to realize Callum was missing? They quickly changed their tune at the risk of being charged with neglect themselves. Callum's parents went along with the proposal that Callum had been staying with his "uncle" while his parents were ill and when Callum stayed with his "uncle" an extra day there was a miscommunication and the missing child call may have been a tad exaggerated.

There would be several more abrupt "illnesses" before the magical Child Protective Services got involved in the March Callum turned 11. Initially the government said Callum needed to stay with his parents but "Uncle Patrick" stepped up talking about prices of raising kids. Paddy Boss was ready to adopt Callum but after a quiet talk with the mCPS agent that Callum didn't really understand (something about wizards). Paddy Boss pulled Callum aside and told him he needed to go with the agent to London.

The last words Callum had before leaving Dublin remained engrained in his mind: "Do you remember how Hotshot had to do a long mission away from us? I need you to go on this mission now. If you work smart and well, we will meet again, but this is something only you can do."

Spending his time at Wool's Orphanage fighting daily with the poltergeist before being shipped off to Hogwarts School in Scotland hardly seemed helpful to the Paddy Gang. Obviously, Paddy Boss had a purpose for him coming here and there was more to the world than he thought (like magic) but he needed to figure the purpose out so he could go back home.

SCHOOL YEARS
■ Callum had been placed in Wools and away from the Paddy Gang. Paddy Boss told him it was a mission but going to a posh magical boarding school in a bloody castle hardly seemed like a real mission. It was the type of mission you gave a child. Well, Callum reasoned, he'd just do what he could to train at least - he joined Fite Club, Culinary Club (he still wanted to open that bakery), and Language Club (to know what sods said behind your back). His time went quietly until he literally ran into a junior - Llewella (Ella). She had the nerve to act like he was going to deck her when all he was going to do was help her with her books to make up for running into her. So he was a man on a mission. He'd make up running into her. So he baked and baked and baked in attempt to just get her to accept so much as a muffin (and he made far more) like a normal person. A side quest he supposed.
