Hello, everyone. CrystBalfast here of the Mermaid Princess RP Guild!

Here is a PSA about the characters explaining about Whew

This is for those who are unfamiliar with the TV Show that ran from 1979 to 1980, its a Game that no one has seen or heard of in 44 years & what was once Lost Media has now been brought back to the airwaves thanks to the Buzzr Network.

Its none other than the game of Close Calls, Narrow Escapes & Split Second Decisions! This is the return of Whew!

This section is also outside the main IC for the guild.

PSA OOC Time: 5-13-2023 to 5-15-2023

Hello there. I'm Savinia from the Mermaid Princess RP Guild and this is Eirich with Mermaids Amy & Mina from the Same RP. Savinia said to the Viewers

Sounds like we're about to hear about another one of those "Rescued from Extinction" things. Eirich said to Amy

*Whew: Introduction*
Narrator: You guessed it. Its a Game that aired once in its entire lifetime on CBS in 1979 and was considered Lost Media & Forgotten for 44 Years... Until Today!

The name of the game is called Whew which began on April 1979 and ended on May 1980 which was created by a Former Daytime Jeopardy 1969 Champion, Jay Wolpert & won the 1969 Tournament of Champions which went on to be a Producer of The Price is Right Daytime from 1972 to 1978. After Whew ended, he went on to make the game Shopping Spree, then returned to be a Producer of The All-New Price is Right in 1994 and Match Game 98 in 1998.

The Residing Host of Whew was Tom Kennedy.

*Whew: Gameplay*
Narrator: The Game is played with 2 Players with 2 possitions, the Charger (Arrow) & the Blocker (Stop Sign).
The Game Board had 6 Stages like so...
= 6. 200/300/500
= 5. 10/20/30/40/50
= 4. 10/20/30/40/50
= 3. 10/20/30/40/50
= 2. 10/20/30/40/50
= 2. 10/20/30/40/50
The First 5 Stages had 5 Spaces while Stage 6 had 3 Spaces.
The First Round had the option to the player of Charging or Blocking,
The Second Round had the roles Swapped
and the Third Round was the same as Round 1.

The Charger would then leave for a brief moment while the Blocker sets his or her traps on the game board by placing 6 Blockers on the Game Board, 1 on Stage 6 and No more than 3 on Stages 1-5. After that's done, the charger would return and gameplay would start. Then the Host gives the signal "Charge" on Stage 1 where the player starts from the bottom then makes his or her way to the top. The Charger's task would make it through Stages 1-6 by correcting one Blooper Statement on each Amount.

A Blooper Statement is a fact where at least one word is changed to make it sound like a joke, like this one...
"SpongeBob got frozen with fear when his Calendar said Important *Photographer* visits Krusty Krab!"
And like that, the correct answer would be "Food Critic".
The charger starts at Stage 1 & selects the amount where the Blooper is located where the Host would read it and the player would need to correct that statement. A Correct Answer would have the player proceed to the next Stage. However, if the player answers wrong, that player selects another amount of the same stage until the player answers correctly.

If a Player hits a Block, the Blocker is Credited with the amount that he or she is otherwise entitled to while the Charger loses 5 Seconds which is counted down by the Audience & Host *Block! 4... 3... 2... 1...*
If a player uses up all the bloopers on one stage then that player automatically moves to the next stage. Whenever the Charger is in a Pinch, that charger can call for a Long Shot to stop the current round should the player below Stage 6. When this happens, the Charger is taken to Stage 6 Directly. Oh and the Charger is credited with every Blooper they correct.

The Blocker is then asked to select one of 3 secret buttons to press and place a Secret Block. The Host would then remind the Charger that there's a previous placed Block on Stage 6 before Gameplay. The Charger would then choose one of 3 spaces where he or she thinks that there's no Block and if that player corrects the Blooper, that charger player wins the round. The Charger also wins the round by clearing all 6 Stages.
However, if the Charger Player is wrong or hits a Block on the Long Shot, or is unable to complete the run, then the Blocker wins the round.

The only catch is that the Charger is not allowed to call for a Long Shot after reaching Stage 6 or during a 5 Second Penalty for hitting a Block. But they can do so any other time or interrupt the host when reading a Blooper.

The Game is played in a Best of 3 Rounds as the First Player to win 2 rounds wins the game & advances to the Endgame Bonus being the Gauntlet of Villains. The 3rd Round is a Tiebreaker Round that plays out like the First Round.

Sounds like the opening of that game was also done by Hanna-Barbera too. Savinia said to the Viewers

The Endgame is next. Eirich said to Amy

*Whew: Endgame Bonus*
Narrator: The Gauntlet of Villains Endgame of Whew had 10 Cardboard Cutout of Cartoon Baddies where the player stands on the beginning of the path each of them having an arm raised. The Goal is the same, to correct the Blooper Statements. The Player had a base time of 60 plus 1 Second for Every $100 in the base game between Charging and Blocking.
*Ex: $900 = 69 Seconds*
Oh and when the Cardboard Cutouts see the player their television screens would have a funny message such as *This isn't over until the credits roll.*

The Bonus began after the Host reads the First Blooper. A Correct answer would lower the cardboard cutout's arm and the player gets $100.
If the player was wrong or was unable to answer, then the answer would appear on the baddie's television screen & the player would remain for how many Bloopers it takes to get past.

Should the player get past all 10 Baddies, then the player wins $25K which was back in 1979, but in the OOC Game, it'll be $5,000.
If the Player was unable to win the grand prize. The Cardboard Cutouts would taunt the player such as *What are you waiting for? Syndication?*
They also taunt the player when that player wins the bonus round such as *Eat your heart out, Ninja Turtles.*
Back then, there was 5-7 Attempts at the gauntlet. So when you stop to think about it each one with $25K, that's a total of $125K to $175K overall which sounds like a lot for Returning Champions.

By September 1979, the audience and viewers were asking for the names of the Baddies after 20 Weeks and their television screens asked for an introduction. So these Cartoonish Cardboard Cutouts were from Left to Right...
1. Alphonse the Gangster
2. Bruno the Headsman
3. Mr. Van Louse the Landlord
4. Nero the Fiddler
5. Count Nibbleneck the Vampire
6. Frank and his little friend Stein
7. Kid Rotten the Gunslinger
8. Jeremy Swash the Pirate
9. Dr. Deranged the Mad Scientist
10. Lucretia the Witch
The Cardboard Cutouts I plan to use for Whew as an OOC Game will have 10 Random Wooden Cardboard Cutout of baddies for the endgame of that OOC Game.
The Narrator said

*Whew: Celebrity Whew
By November 1979, CBS Changed the name to Celebrity Whew to increase the show's ratings and in an attempt to compete with The Price is Right.
A new ruleset was added but the Gameplay remained the same except for teams of 2. The New Ruleset was a Bonus Board where should the player win on a 2-0 Round Basis Uncontested, they would play the Bonus Board Round for Extra Scoring with the Blocks placed at Random.
So the way I plan to do it, is that even if the player is unable to clear the board, then the player gets the amount that player scored in the Bonus Board which sounds like an act of fair play in a way.
The Endgame played the same way as before.
The Reason why it was lost and forgotten is because CBS aired its slot around Match Game 79 and competed with NBC & ABC Networks. Whew did well in the Summer 1979. Whew ended and faded for memory on May 1980.

Nowadays, Whew can be found on the Buzzr Network.
