All RP's have to be completed for credit. 750 words minimum per RPer. The bonus points are not based on whether you pick for the substance to used for good or not.

Small does of things can be beneficial, while larger doses can be harmeful or even fatal. How much is too much?

Remember that plant you found? Well it's unique. You see, it can both be medicinal in certain doses but also toxic For example, the lovely prizes are based on different variations of Foxglove--also known as Digitalis, which is used ins small doses as a medicine..

Please write 750 words per RPer telling me one of the following:

1. How do you figure out it helps but also kills?
2. Tell a story about your soquili intentionally using this plant for good or nefarious purposes. Do they plan on growing more or getting rid of the plant?

Your plant does NOT have to be Foxglove. It can be anything you want--real or imagined--as long it meets the prompt requirements.

Strange things have been happening around the kawani lands. Samael was uneasy and he was not alone. Whispers spread across the land and the memory of waking up in that strange forest with that ominous voice... he tried not to dwell on it too much. Something was happening, but all he could do was move forward with life. He wanted to feel normal. The perfect opportunity arose when he came across this strange plant he'd never seen before. He was well versed in more foliage in the lands and their edible, medicinal, or more nefarious purposes. It was important to determine what camp this plant rests in, and a perfect opportunity to pass on knowledge to one of his children.

He liked to make sure each child got one-on-one time with him and today was Glasya's turn. He told her before sleep last night to meet him this morning in this offshoot area from their family's grove. There was a nicely flat stone, too large to ever move, that he placed the plant upon. He had tools nearby to help him take apart the plant and assess what sort of plant it was. He had his suspicions but he was hoping he could lead his daughter to the answer. With everything prepared, he waited for Glasya to join him.

The small foal had not gotten much rest the previous night. Her curiosity had run rampant after her father had requested she meet him in the morning. Many scenarios had plagued her mind to such a degree that before she knew, the dawn light was dappling her face. Glasya stretched herself to a standing position before moving about her typical morning ritual. She greeted most of her family before moving on to the offshoot clearing nearby.

Once she broke through the tree-line into the new clearing, her dark eyes landed in her father standing before a large flat stone. "Good Morn, Father," she greeted the towering stallion in her usual passive way. Her gaze drifted back to the stone and if one looked close enough they could see the sparkle of curiosity in her otherwise stoic face. There was some kind of plant surrounded by various of her father's tools on top the surprisingly flat surface. Nearly as soon as she could walk, the tiny filly had been learning her family's trade. So she was familiar with most of said tools.

Head tilting to the side, she returned her gaze to Samael. "I don't recognize this plant, what is it?" Her tone was still fairly flat despite being eager to learn about it.

He watched her make her way to him and waited until she was before him and investigating their task before speaking. He encouraged curiosity in his children and loved leading them to answers. Their work was never done, as soquili would always need healing, and so their learning and adapting was never done. This new plant must be studied and understood so they could figure out if it was another tool in their arsenal or just rubbish.

Samael has trained his children well in the various flora and fauna of the kawani lands, but this was something new entirely. He looked down at the plant and then to Glasya.

"This is something new I've found. I suspect it may be poisonous, but what we need to learn is if it could also be used as medicine." He suspected it was a nefarious plant based on its source. The mysterious voice floated across his memory but he tamped it down. He could puzzle that out later.

"Carefully cut along its stalk." He bade Glasya do this, but he was watching intently. If the sap that leeched out was milky, his suspicions would be strengthened.

While he had spoken, Glasya kept her full attention on him. It had been slightly surprising to here that this plant was also new to him. In her little mind, Samael was a font of knowledge and there should be little he didn't know about. Especially when it came to anything their family handled. Then a little jolt of pride trilled through her at having been chosen to assist with this discovery. It likely wasn't obvious outside of her and she would not brag about it later, but it was still there.

This helped her fully concentrate on the process at hand. "Yes Father," she acknowledged his instruction while moving into a better position next to the stone. Being extremely careful, she picked up an appropriate tool for the task. Her tongue slightly poked out as she concentrated on gently slicing open the plant's stalk. With the first pierce of the tool a substance bubbled up to the surface. As she continued down and completed the cut it became fairly obvious that the sap was milky in color. Remembering a previous lesson, the foal safely moved the tool onto another to let said sap pool into a collection plate.

She took a step back while shifting to look at her father again. "The sap appears to be milky, that means you were correct?" Glasya intoned. This would be her first time working with a poisonous plant. Just being milky was not a sure-fire sign that it was dangerous though. Her eyes moved back to the plant and then the next tool she would likely need to use.

He watched her carefully slice into the plant and collect the sap, as she had been taught. She was a good student and he was proud of her progress. "Well done," he said with a nod as she finished this first task. "Now we must inspect the inside of the plant walls. Sometimes there can be dark streaking inside or some other visual cue, but I believe that yes, this is a poisonous plant though I've never seen its like." He leaned down and smelled the sap that was collected and caught a whiff of bitter almonds. That was peculiar. He furrowed his brow at this strange, almost unnatural plant. They needed to know more about it. "Go ahead and use the tools to open the plant like I taught you," he said encouragingly. While she did that he took some of the collected sap and put it over a small flame he'd set up before Glasya had gotten there. It began boiling nearly immediately and the bitter almond smell became stronger. He thought perhaps this plant could prove useful if he could figure out its effects. He took the boiling bit of sap off the fire and set it down to cool and turned back to watch Glasya work.

Even before he finished his statement, the filly was already reaching for the next tool. This process was one she had been taught before and she recalled all the steps readily. In no time she was separating the shaft into quadrants. Her tongue yet again darted outs with her extreme focus. While slowly pinning each quarter, she was carefully collecting the sap to the collection plate with what Samael hadn't grabbed.

As she continued, some black seemed to be staring at her. Not trusting just her naked eye however, Glasya reached for a looking glass for closer inspection. Just as her small hoof reached it, the smell of the boiling sap ran across her senses. The bitter scent of her father's experiment caused her nose to crinkle which in turn caused her breath to hitch. The other tool she was holding dropped to the stone with a clatter as she wobbled from a sudden woozy sensation.

Vaguely she remembered that she should move away and upwind of any abnormal smell. "Father..." she faintly called out as she backed away and moved upwind from the stone. This was a new experience after all and she was unsure how to proceed.

He was, as always, impressed with her work as she cut the plant up and pinned it down. He complimented her work as she went along with small exclamations of "yes." or "well done." Nearly at the same time that Glasya called out and began faltering Samael noticed a slight sluggishness in his brain as well. The filly was clearly more affected and he encouraged her to move upwind as he grabbed a large, thick cloth and tossed it over the cooling sap that was causing the nose. He then moved upwind with his daughter, his mind racing to possibilities. He stood with her silently as he mused. The fuzzy effects wore off fairly quickly and there seemed no side effects. This could be a useful tool in healing very painful wounds. If they could make a soquili fall asleep for the procedure they could heal them without as much pain. They would have to run experiments for how much vapor they needed and for how long, but this felt promising.

"I believe we can use this plant in healing. Can you guess what we might use it for?" He encouraged his children to find answers rather than be given them.

With his assistance, she was able to make it completely upwind. It also helped that he had covered the solution. So slowly she could feel it's grasp on her mind fading. Her still droopy eyes looked up at him as his words poked into her brain. The overall sensation had made her very sluggish. Kind of like when she was awoken from a deep slumber. It was a few rotations of that thought before something clicked. Her eyes snapped to fully alert.

That was the answer! The vapor made by the boiling sap had nearly made her fall asleep. Being asleep could help one not feel the pain while being healed. "It could help us lull someone to sleep," her voice stayed level and monotone as she continued, "which would assist us and them if the pain is too much." A frown pursed her lips as she looked back at the stone. Undoubtedly they would spend the rest of today or longer finding the limits of said vapor, but was that really all this plant could do for them? Again her curiosity surged for this new discovery. Even if all she helped him with was that, together that had made an important step to furthering their medical arsenal!

"Very good," he said as she explains exactly what he thought the medicine could be used for. There were dangers to be sure. Something with the potency to put down a soquili with a mere whiff would be a powerful poison if ingested. Such was the case with many of their medicines, so that would not deter them from learning more. They simply had to be very careful in their experiments.

However there were other concerns to contend with, such as breakfast. They'd done good work but it was early and his stomach was rumbling. By now Naamah would have a spread of nuts and fruits and veggies to each prepared in the gathering space. "Come, let's go eat," he said to his daughter as he moved back into the workspace and poured the collected non-boiled sap into a bottle and corking it. "We can do more research later." He left the tools as they were for later cleaning but collected the plant carefully and placed it into a jar as well. Having cleaned up he turned back to Glasya. "Well done today. Let's go get breakfast"

Pride swelled within her at his praise. She was glad to have been helped and done well with her tasks. Glasya watched as he put things away. Her stomach had begun to grumble at the mention of food. "Yes Father, let us go eat," a hint of happiness danced in her voice. It was always nice to learn the family trade with her parents. As he finished securing the plants and it's byproducts, she had turned to leave the clearing. She knew he was right behind her as they left together.
