RIGHTOUS Jasper has always believed in doing the right thing. From protecting the smaller students in primary to whistleblowing against a fellow professor stealing research from his students, Jasper believes in doing what is right and always protecting the underdog. Does this cause Jasper problems, sometimes? Yes. He was fired from University of Sydney as he was not the tenured professor and likely has lost his career as a professor in academia. Was it fair? No. Was it painful? Yes. Would he have done it again? You bet so.
SUPERSTITIOUS Jasper came from a long line on his mother's side family of seers. As he was the shame of his family he was shipped off to stay with his mother's widowed mother, his Granny Marcs. Between making often grim predictions including that he would lose everything he worked for before his hair turned gray, she constantly reminded him of ways to bring good and more importantly bad luck. Stories of the Grim were his bedtime stories and anytime a building had a thirteenth floor he takes the stairs.
INTELLIGENT For his lack of skill at magic, Jasper was a clever individual. Granny Marcs was sure to teach him as much scrying as was possible for a squib (arithmancy) and even ancient runes but he truly excelled in his muggle studies. As were common for his tests, especially in mathematics and science. He did score a bit lower in English which Granny Marcs was quick to point out "You speak English, how do you score worse in this Physics subject than the language you speak?" Still, he did go on to Oxford and finish with a DPhil Mathematics of Random Systems before traveling to University of Sydney to begin as a professor hoping to earn tenure some day.
HARD-WORKING One might say Jasper is too hard working. He is prone to getting lost in his work and thoughts the more stress around him. Jasper has always been the black sheep of his family, their shame, and he has since he was living with his parents just wanted his family to have an ounce of pride in him. If not pride of him recognition he isn't only a shame on the family tree.
ANALYTICAL Jasper sees himself as a statistician and scientist. He is both. From a young age Granny Marcs began to teach him the art of arithmancy figuring if he couldn't do proper magic she would find a way for a squib to predict the future if it killed her. She recognized that he was talented in the art and similar subjects like his muggle maths and sciences. Jasper recognized the same thing easily turning the world around him into mathematical formulas as he got older.
SELF-LOATHING Even his savior, Granny Marcs, was sure to let him know he was never good enough. Maybe it was meant as a kindness from his maternal grandmother so he was able to protect himself but it never felt exactly kind. You can always love someone but be perpetually disappointed in them. His own parents put snakes in his bed in an attempt to make him into what they wanted and he'd never be. As a squib, Jasper got to watch the wizarding world pass him by while struggling to fit into a muggle world he would never quite fit as he knew the secret of the other world.

EARLY CHILDHOOD Ichabod Percival Conroy came from a long line of bankers and cursebreakers who held a special hatred for goblin kind and their "seizure of the banking industry". Thankfully for the Conroy family there was always a special place for those who needed a quick loan in Knockturn Alley regardless of the interest rate. Molly Annabella Marcs came from a line of seers and fortune tellers who were trusted for their accuracy and never one to shy away from predicting the darker ways of life. Ichabod and Molly met in the Slytherin Common Room when Ichabod was 13 and Molly was 11. The two started a friendship realizing that their families were in the same circles and it eventually developed into a school day romance. Two weeks after Molly graduated from Hogwarts she married Ichabod in a large ceremony with some of the more notable pureblood family in attendance.

Three years after Ichabod and Molly's marriage they received the happy news that they were expecting their first child. Molly's mother even predicted it would be a boy! All was well for the Marcs-Conroy family until the question began to persist. When? Why? When would Jasper show his magic? Why had Jasper not shown his magic? Family members and the pureblood circles began to talk. The dangerous "s" word began to be spoken: Squib. Ichabod did all he could to force Jasper into showing signs of magic. Dogs were let lose to chase him, he was locked for 24 hours in a closet, and even non-poisonous snakes were put in his bed.

The snake bite on 7 year old Jasper's arm made Granny Marcs act. After hearing about the snakes the widow stormed into the manor, slapped her own daughter, placed her wand at the much taller son-in-laws throat and declared before dragging Jasper away, "I have stood by and watched this nonsense too long! You two birthed a squib, so be it. You have time for another. Bother with that, not torturing this poor boy."

Jasper never saw his parents again after that and he was not sure he wanted to. Granny Marcs made sure he was enrolled in muggle schooling, and instructed him in runes and arithmancy to make him a "Proper Marcs family member that a squib can be." Jasper always felt the disappointment of his family in him being a squib. Even Granny Marcs wanted more. Jasper did what he could and focused on the extra lessons Granny Marcs forced on him while trying to be the top of his muggle schooling.

SCHOOL YEARS Granny Marcs was well aware the only way a squib could truly find full potential was in the muggle world. She allowed the muggles to teach Jasper while tutoring him in arithmancy and ancient runes. Jasper excelled in science and maths getting As in all subject material of both and more middling scores in English and History. He was accepted to Oxford after his A levels where he lived in Merton College and receiving a DPhil Mathematics of Random Systems CDT.

POST-GRADUATION A year before Jasper completed his DPhil Granny Marcs would die of Dragon Pox complications. Forcing his energy into his studies even further than before often finishing 14 hour days of work in the lab or class, Jasper would end his DPhil with a thesis that would be talked to for a full decade by his professors at Oxford, he had his choice of universities to teach. Finding nothing to tie him to the UK since Granny Marcs was gone, he decided on the less traditional choice: University of Sydney. In Australia he would teach for nine years hoping to earn tenure. While teaching he noticed an anomaly between one of the tenured professor's and his student's work. His colleague was stealing and of course Jasper spoke up. Whistleblower laws were often a joke and he was shown the door. Returning to London, Jasper settled in using the Marcs name and his O in Arithmancy he earned for Granny Marcs's sake to work until reading the newspaper his eyes fell on a classified. Professor of Arithmancy. He couldn't help but smile at the irony. He was a professor and he was talented at arithmancy. It was always worth trying. Maybe he could be respectable in the eyes of wizarding kind yet. Unlikely but the benefits were better than his current gig.
