Kalias at that precise moment could not be a happier Soquili stallion, his mate had just placed their three newly born foals into their baskets for their final stage of growth, he'd courted the mare for a while before she'd consented to be his mate but they had fallen deeply in love and were rarely separate, however, right now he was alone, he was looking for sweet green apples, his mate's favourite. He was specifically looking for the small 'crab apples' she'd had a craving for them while pregnant but she had always loved sour things even before.
He found the right tree, holding precious small, round, green fruit and he plucked a few, putting them in a basket he was able to carry in his mouth, made by some of the humans he'd met along his journey before finding his mate. He also spotted some blackberries not too far off and spent some time picking those, as well as maybe eating some himself. He wanted to rush back but his mate had given him the hint that she had needed some time alone so he didn't hurry, instead he picked her some flowers here and there as he went.

Sephtis hungered. He hadn't been with this herd long but had already learned their ways, tactics and hunting strategies. He was smaller, thus made a scout, his eyes ever vigilant. He had been tracking this golden and white pony for a while, alerting the other members of the herd and they had been watching him, his mare and his three new foals. Silent. Stalking. Waiting for him to leave her alone with the helpless tiny morsels. A grin spread across the kalona's muzzle. He licked his lips in anticipation, waiting for the others to give the go ahead. His hooves gnashed angrily at the ground, almost giving them away, but the lead gave the order and the kalona pressed the attack, hooves kicking, tails lashing and teeth baring down upon soft flesh, new and older alike. Sephtis cackled to himself, grinning maliciously as the white parts of his pelt and his creamy colored hooves began to be stained red by the blood of the mare. (165w)

He was almost home when he heard the screaming, heard his mate desperately scream his name before it was cut off abruptly, he dropped his basket, his gifts spilling out on the ground and he just RAN. It took him a minute or so to get there but it felt like it took him forever. He screeched to a halt when he reached the clearing, the shredded remains of one of the baskets, bloodstained with a tiny hoof sticking out from beneath what was left. His stomach dropped and he desperately looked around, calling for his mate. His eyes moving from one Kalona to another, one in particular was standing over his mate's body, another basket beside her, also destroyed, she'd clearly been trying to protect it when the black and white Kalona... no... monster, murdered her.
He screamed and charged at the Kalona, small and slight as it was, Kalias was large and bulky, despite that he moved fast, jaws open as he lunged at the throat of the evil creature that had just basically ripped his his heart from his chest. He didn't even see another Kalona come out of the shadows and knock him over, but then started to fight with a third, it seemed they were fighting over the body of his mate, he got to his feet quickly and lunged at the black and white kalona again while the other two were distracted.

Sephtis hardly had time to admire his handiwork when the stallion came charging in....and then at him. A larger kalona barreled into the male knocking him down but that was short lived as they began to bicker over who got to eat the carcass. Spitting out blood, not his own but the mares, Sephtis eyed the male, challenging him. Oh this big brute would probably taste good once he removed all that pathetic hair. Snarling, Sephtis stood his ground, his wings flared.
Small and slender aside, Sephtis still wore scars with pride. He laughed, his tail lashing the air like a knife as he reared up, bringing his sharp hooves hopefully down upon the stallion before continuing his own charge, head forward, aiming to spear the male with the horn from his forehead. If he went deep enough....perhaps he'd also meet the ends of his ram like horns. All the while, Sephtis' grin spread farther and farther across his muzzle. "Little....too....late!" he laughed wickedly.

Kalias wasn't really thinking very hard, all he knew was these creatures were now his enemies, in particular a black and white one, red spreading it's pelt from the only things he had ever loved. His own lips curled in response to the other snarling, blunt teeth versus sharp ones but he had size on his side at least.
The flaring wings held no intimidation for Kalias as he was so out of his mind with heartbreak and anger that he didn't really care about anything anymore, He charged, impaling his shoulder on the Kalona's head spike, using the opportunity that the other could no longer easily get away, with little more than a grunt of pain, he grabbed the other by the back of the neck and practically flung him away, ripping the horn out, causing him to stumble a little, though he didn't stop, he carried on after the other, giant hooves crashing around the other, if the kalona wasn't careful he could end up with broken bones, though it was something far worse for him that Kalias had in mind as blood streaked down his golden pelt, down his leg. "Too late ... for you" he rasped, his throat dry, his tone like he was crying but no tears fell. He flailed his hooves again, at the small kalona's head, hoping to end it right there.

Sephtis wasn't expecting the other to come charging into his own horn. He grinned as the other impaled himself on it and moved his head to try to rip the horn through the stallions flesh. What Sephtis wasn't expecting was to be thrown over the stallion and onto the floor. Despite being just a normal soquili, the stallion had draft bulk, and he was using that as an advantage. Adrenaline coursing through him, causing him to shrug off any pain. Sephtis wasn't quite in this mindset, though his heart was racing. Growling, he attempted to get to his hooves, only to have several hooves come down around him and on top of him. Narrowly missing his face, the golden male landed several good blows to his shoulders and side. In attempt to defend himself, Sephtis shot his hooves straight up, aiming for the golden one's chest, hoping to slice it open with his hooves. Hits landed and blood began to trickle on him from above, but the stallion kept going. At least until another kalona stepped in, much larger in form height wise (albeit, still less muscle than Kailias but that didn't stop him), barreling into the draft horse and flinging him from off the smaller Kalona. Casting a glance down towards Sephtis, Haimon snorted, a soq of few words. A glance was all Sephtis needed however, to get back to his hooves, shake himself off and prepare himself for the next round of attack. This time, however, Haimon stood slightly in front of the smaller kalona. His gaze was threatening, taunting. He was glaring down Kailas, all the while licking fresh warm blood of a foal from his lips. "Come..." was all he grunted, his own wings flared out high, his long curled back horns shining, dappled in trinkets from previous kills. His curled ram horns short and his iridescent forhead horn now lowered, aimed. A tail housing several tentacles writhed behind him. Sephtis spat out bits of his own blood before licking his fangs, chuckling. "Too late for you is right." he taunted back at the draft horse. "Your mate is gone...as are your foals...and now soon... so will you." he snorted. (364w)

Kalias grunted with satisfaction every time his hooves landed a blow on the smaller Kalona, he had him right where he wanted him, until sharp hooves sliced across the front of his chest, making a small sound of pain, he paused, only for a second then more blows rained from beneath him, he squealed and reared, hooves high to bring down on the kalona's head, that was when he was bodily hit again and was sent to the ground, rolling away from his target.
He took the time it took for the newcomer to glance back at his pack-mate to get up off the ground, hoof pawing at the dirt beneath him as he did so, nostrils flaring, blood dripping, making small splashes in the dried mud below, this one was bigger, probably much stronger than the small one. The sounds of any other kalona around were fading, leaving these two his only opponents. The others must have gotten bored, one or two may have hung around to watch but they had seen the way he attacked the smaller one, they'd have been right to be cautious but this one, this one was like a dirty oil-slick in front of him. He breathed hard as his wounds dripped, none were lethal on their own but combined, they were slowly draining him. "I Breathe... you will not" he gasped, hard eyes glaring at the smaller "Afraid to face me alone? you are all cowards, filth that must be purged" he practically growled before he charged towards the smaller, trying to get past the larger one.

Sephtis laughed at the threat but Haimon flared a wing to silence the smaller one. He was becoming too haughty for the wounds he now carried. And yet still this draft made to charge him. Sephtis dug his hooves in, ready to recieve the blow and take it.
But Haimon had other ideas. He moved to intercept the draft, ramming his shoulder and forehorn hard into the draft, slicing skin as easily as a knife slicing butter. Haimon didn't stop there and began to use his strength, kicking off against the ground to charge the draft, all while shoving his horn deeper into the other's shoulder before flinging his head up violently, slicing open the draft's shoulder, blood spraying. Haimon had no time to revel in the rain of blood.
Sephtis took this chance to charge the draft as well. He didn't care if they didn't play fair. It was an all you can eat buffet here, and if this draft could be eaten too...then he'd help earn the meal. He kicked out with his hooves, slicing more fur and skin, creating gouges that poured blood.
Haimon also brought his legs up, bringing them down upon the draft, aiming for the front shoulders or hips, a few times hearing a satisfying snap of bone as the blow landed. They each took bites and blows of their own but none of the three stallions seemed to let it stop them as they continued their gruesome and bloody battle. However, two on one made it clear who the victor was going to be as the golden draft seemed to slow down, the land now covered in more of his blood than their own.
Sephtis' mad cackle could be heard echoing throughout the open space now, above the grunts of adrenaline and pain. The other kalona had left the two to their fight, seeing that they had it covered and needed no intervention. Combined with the fact that Haimon had begun shooing off any other that dared to intervene. This fight was theirs.

Kalias found with no grace or really any skill, all his life he had been a peaceful soquili, sure he had mock fights with other stallions but this was very very different. He and the two kalona exchanged blows, he tried to target the smaller one as much as possible when he wasn't fighting the larger one's attacks off. Bit by bit, wound by wound he was slowing, his breathing getting slower, more laboured as they went. He dropped to his knees more than once, especially after one blow that definitely broke something his his shoulder. Still he fought, he grabbed flesh from the smaller one more than once though.
He was never going to win, one angry, heartsick stallion versus two vicious, practised beasts, eventually he could land no more blows, only defend himself against one attack after another, until even that was too much. He stumbled, dropping to the ground, his breath ragged, he could fight no longer, his neck bent at an awkward angle, the rise and fall of his ribcage quickly grew less and less until it seemed he no longer breathed, he lost consciousness at that point, his mind going into blessed oblivion, his heart still beat but he was, for all outward appearances, done for.

Sephtis was dripping with blood, patches of fur and skin missing, some near down to the bone. He limped on one side and growled deeply, blood pouring out of his nose. That stupid golden draft had it out for him and he was going to finish it. Limping forward, Sephtis aimed a hoof for Kalias' neck...
When Haimon stopped him, taking the blow instead.
However instead of attacking back, Haimon simply stared down the smaller Kalona, of whom he had an unspoken close bond with. It was enough to cause the other to back off. "Leave." he spat.
"But my meal! That b*****d!"
"LEAVE. HIM." Haimon roared the order, turning on the smaller one and raising his hooves, charging forward - no intent to hit, but to scare.
It was enough for Sephtis however. He let out a displeased grunt and spat blood towars Kalias. His tail lashing furiously. He did as the larger one said however, but before leaving, limped back over to the previous sight of carnage, nosing through it rather like a pig until he found a severed tiny limb that he smirked at. Snatching it up, he made sure to parade it by Kalias, despite the other being unconcious.
Haimon waited with Kalias until Sephtis had retreated back the direction the other Kalona had gone. Once he was gone, he bent down to sniff at the draft's body, broken, bruised, bleeding. He looked back where the body of the mare was all about gone, along with two of the three baskets. He hadn't seen where the third had gone, presumably, the herd took it with them. Glancing back down at the stallion, Haimon snorted again, muzzle drew back in a sneer as he kicked dirt over the sop's eyes and face. "Lucky... I'm full." was all he horsed out, spitting out his own mix of saliva and blood upon the defeated creature before leaving him to die and rot. "Not worth...our stomachs." he said as he added one final insult to injury before wandering back towards his waiting herd.

Some hours later Elara was travelling with her herd, not too far from their territory but enough to find new trees, fruit, grass, they would travel back in a few weeks time but now, they were exploring this land when they came across a horrific smell on the wind. Elara's parents, being leaders of their herd, along with Elara had bid the herd stay where they were while they investigated. The scene in front of Elara was horrifying, she had never seen such... brutal-ness before in her life, a musky scent on the bodies screamed 'Kalona' and many of them, though it was hours old. She'd been sent back to the herd for help, returning quickly but she could tell there was nothing to be done for two young ones and what had been a mare, the best they could do was bury them, which her herd members did, Elara was young but she was strong with her healing, moreso than her parents even and as she approached the once golden body of the stallion, she could sense life .. just about. She called for her parents who sensed nothing and told her to come help with the holes but she ignored them, laying down so her muzzle touched the stallion's cheek "I'm so sorry, i can't help them, but i can help you" she said, laying her horn on his hurts, healing him. It took hours more still before the stallion began to breathe normally, his body covered in scars now where she had healed him, but it hadn't been enough, she'd had to focus her strength on his internal injuries the most. He woke slowly, "i'm.... alive..?" he said quietly to himself, not seeing the mare, who had now moved slightly away. "i...no... i was just with them" he got to his feet, legs apart, he finally noticed the mare, who told him she had helped him "You..i wish you hadn't" he spat, anger flaring in his eyes, before flicking his tail, turning around and walking off into the trees, eyes going to the mound that now lay in the middle of the clearing he'd called home. he sobbed once, a harsh, ragged noise before he just ran. Elara was left confused, until her parents explained some soquili were just ungrateful of the gift of life. She didn't think it was that but she was barely an adult and knew she had much more to learn. She planted a pretty flower at the mound of the two youngsters and the mare, before turning her back and following, her herd would return home much sooner than planned. (434 words) END
