Even as a child, Obi was always down for adventure, taking any challenge placed before him. Whether it was journeying into dark rooms to scare of monsters, or climbing into a sewer drain to rescue a lost puppy, Obadiah would do it. Even into adulthood, neighbors would call upon him to recover kites and balls lost in trees.

Dedicated to his friends, almost to a fault. He would do anything for anyone he considered a friend. He always offered a shoulder to cry on, a beating for those who needed it, or simply advise on whatever was plaguing them, Obadiah was there.

This trait didn't develop until later in life, replacing an openness that he once had. Where he had once been open about himself, he had since closed off and won't discuss things from his past.

To say that he has a love for plants would be an understatement, as most of his personality throughout Hogwarts revolved around his plants. He routinely sneaked out to go to the greenhouse to check on them. If he was missing from his room, he was either in the greenhouse or on his way there.

For many years, he lived in the wilderness, tracking dragons and recording their lives. He developed a love for camping and living off the land. Even when he lived in a camp, he still preferred to live off the land.

Obadiah Dalglish was born in Montrose, Scotland, to Marie and Hamish Dalglish who lived in the magical part of the town. Marie was a Squib living with her magical family, and Hamish a wizard traditionally taught at Hogwarts. They stayed in the town after marrying and Obi came a couple years later. When Obi was three, his sister Blair, was born and when he was seven his brother Hamish III joined the family. Obadiah was a great big brother, protecting both his siblings against their fears. He routinely went on adventures with other kids from the town and often traveled down to the ocean. He always appreciated nature and made tons of animal friends, often times returning home with an injured animal to nurse back to health. When he was ten, a mean boy about his age threw a puppy off the pier towards the ocean below. Obi cried out and unknowingly cast magic, stopping the descent and bringing the scared pup to himself. The mean kid became scared and ran away and Obadiah returned home to tell his parents what happened.

Upon his eleventh birthday, Obadiah received his Hogwarts letter as expected and happily prepared to attend the magical school. He was sorted in Hufflepuff, to no one's surprise. His favorite class throughout his schooling was Herbology, but he also enjoyed many of his other classes. Where he lacked was in the attention department so classes like History and Astronomy fell by the wayside. He made many friends at school and was generally well liked by most. Starting his fifth year, he was selected as Hufflepuff's male Prefect, a badge he wore with pride. Throughout his schooling, he was close friends with the Groundskeeper and routinely spent all of his free time outside. He even made a few trips into the Forbidden Forest, though never too deeply for fear of getting expelled. He did make many animal friends throughout his schooling, even nursing a few of his classmates' pets back to health.

After graduating from Hogwarts, Obadiah interned with a Herbologist, taking care of their plants while they worked on their research projects. Originally his goal was to be a Herbologist, but he internship made him change his desire. He then looked into magizoology, since he also cared deeply for animals. There weren't many jobs that would let him just work with the animals instead of doing research, but he discovered a position with a dragon camp in the Bavarian Alps in Germany. He jumped at the opportunity and traveled to Germany to join the camp. They were working with the Ukrainian ironbelly dragons. While there, he learned both German and Ukrainian languages, through neither were one hundred percent fluent. Working with dragons was very dangerous, but also incredibly rewarding and he hoped to changed everyone's opinions regarding dragons. It was during his work with the ironbellies he earned the nickname Horntail because he acted like the dragon on the same name.

He had spent several years working in Germany when a new opportunity presented itself. He was offered a position in Romania working with the longhorn dragons native to the Carpathian mountains there. Accepting the position, he moved there to take on the job. It was there that he met his future wife. Her name was Amalia Welshford, an English witch several years younger than he. In fact, she'd been a first year the year after he'd graduated. They became close during their work with longhorns, eventually dating. During their courtship, Amalia was offered an opportunity in neighboring Hungary, working with the horntails. They married before she left and continued a long distance relationship whilst working in the separate countries. As his project was coming to an end, he decided to surprise her by showing up at her apartment. However, instead he found her in bed with another man. They divorced soon after and Obadiah withdrew from society for a while.

Brokenhearted and angry at the world, he traveled through Europe for a while, living out of a tent and off the land. He journeyed to many places of magical significance, finding magical creatures and taking care of them. While in Scandinavia, he heard a rumor that the Swedish Short-snout dragons were going extinct, so he made it his mission to prevent that. He spent many years in the Scandes mountain range studying the dragons, charting their nest habits and mating periods. He concluded, after his studies, that the dragons themselves were not endangered, but that they preferred the mountain ranges and had withdrawn as their habitats were beginning to shrink. He emerged from the mountains with a new lease on life, though he had become like the dragons he had studied, reclusive and withdrawn.

The last dragon assignment he took was back in his homeland of Scotland, working with the Hebridean Black dragons. While officially working for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, he mostly worked with the dragons themselves, making sure they were healthy and sometimes having to drive them away from Muggle society. It was while working with an especially aggressive and dangerous male that his career was effectively ended. While fighting with the dragon, he was bitten and hit hard with its tail, sending him careening into a cliff face. His back had been broken and he was bleeding from his wounds. The others working with him were able to drive off the dragon and get him to St. Mungo's, but it would be a long time before he could walk again, and after that, he wouldn't be able to work with dragons again. He thought about retiring and ending his life until he found out that Hogwarts was seeking a new Groundskeeper. He eagerly took the position, happily to have a relaxed job close to the Forest he longed to explore as a kid.
