Adelai is the only born child to Mathieu Hasenpfeffer and Eilionoir Bates. His father was just taking off in the tech world, designing all sorts of cool lifestyle gear. His wife, Eli, did similar, though she worked in the magical world. For any of their own in-home tech, he designed it, while she made it magically compatible.
When Adelai was four, he and his uncle Alex were in a terrible wreck, and Adi suffered severe injuries to his back, hips, and legs. It was hours, then days of surgeries, followed by months of physical therapy, all with his family beside him. His dad designed a tech-forward walking frame for his son, and therein discovered his new passion. Using technology to help people be free. When Adi was six, he and Eli got stuck in an elevator, and he panicked, using magic to try and escape. Luckily, Eli was able to set things right before muggle authorities arrived, so no breaches needed reporting.
As years went on, Adelai kept working alongside his family, building and exploring the world through tinkering and creating. Often his dad would take Adi’s ideas and help bring them to the real world, then adapt them to help as many as possible. In school, Adi always sat at the “weird kid” table, making friends with those that needed them. He started a club for circuits and robotics, where he and his new friends thrived. It was awesome. Then, on his eleventh birthday, he got a letter from his mom’s Alma Mater, inviting him officially into the magical world. The moment that took place, Matt and Eli started working on an adaptive walking frame that could handle the apparent several stairs in the upcoming school

Arriving at Hogwarts, Adelai was sorted in Gryffindor House where he met and befriended many of his housemates including Sebastian Moon and Olivia Scott-Wright. He joined a bunch of clubs as well as the Quidditch team, making the main team as a beater. After meeting Tàmhas at Cooking Club, the two worked with his family to make a new prosthetic leg for the older boy, which was gifted to him over winter break.
