Laying in the sand was always so easy for Iris to relax before she started her day. The morning sun always had the perfect hues that bounced off the still water, painting some of the most beautiful pictures in the sky. Being on her side, she let her tail splash back and forth into the water. This is why she loved the sand. It subtly reminded her of herself. Mostly composed of sediments but also had the elements of water mixed in. She always likes to start her mornings off by the water. Letting her tail, her kelpi part, experience for a moment what it was made to do.
Maybe today, I'll actually wade in the water.
While Iris liked to be in the water, she always was wary as she had heard stories of kelpis and mers that were not so nice. If she had a run-in, the rest of her, sadly, would not be able to put up a fight in the water. While her impulsive nature made her want to do these things, the dangers stopped her. While it was true she had really not met anyone dangerous, or really in general at these waters, she knew what could lurk underneath. "Today does look quiet tho." Taking a deep breath, she let her world relax around her. What would five more minutes be lying down in the sand where she could still be close to both elements? Relaxing her eyes, she let her muzzle droop to her front leg, letting her mind center, listening to the sounds around her. The seabirds singing, the small waves coming up on shore and the breeze moving the trees around. Everything was peaceful at the moment.

Galen had been swimming in the shallows, enjoying the stillness of the water when he spotted her— a kelpie lounging on the shore, her tail flicking lazily in the surf. He tilted his head, intrigued by the sight. She looked so... peaceful, almost like she belonged there, and for a moment he wondered how she managed to be so at ease in such an unfamiliar place. The last time he had been that far on shore, well... His curiosity piqued, he approached the shore with a slow, careful stroke, his body leaving barely a ripple in the water as he was floating with his hooves just above the sand.
“Well, well, well,” he said, his voice smooth and light, the playful tone of it as natural as the sea itself. “What have we here? A kelpie on the land, huh? You sure you’re in the right place? This isn’t exactly your element.” He flashed a grin, the kind that was charming and a little mischievous. He couldn’t help but admire her—there was something about the way she looked so at home amidst the sand and water, and yet, the closer he looked at her figure the traits began to stand out. Those were not fish scales - but hard protrusions like armor. What he had assumed may have been coral on her head turned out to be horns. Aside from her tail she didn't appear to be a kelpie at all!
"O-oh..." He faultered, just for a moment. "I suppose you aren't what I assumed you were at all..." Neither was he, if he was honest.

Barely hearing anything coming from the water, the voice that emerged from it was a little unsettling. Yet the coolness and tone was friendly enough to not make Iris spook or jump up. She watched his head rise from the surface, yet he was staying in the water. Unsure if he was a kelpie or a mer, she kept her eyes peeled for any indications otherwise. His color that she could see from above the water was stunning. Iris had many remarks on her coloring, but she always thought she could not compare to those in the water. She knew the sea was full of wonderous colors and she always wished she could join them below the water. Letting her tail flick in front of her she eyed the male. "Hello.. you are right, I'm only part kelpie and unfortunately I feel better on land, although I wish I was more capable of the water." Letting off a little giggle, she stayed in her position of laying down to show that she was at ease.
Although she had never tried to swim, she was always apprehensive. Being worried about meeting a not-so-nice water dweller was always in the back of her mind. Her armor, while would protect her from any attacks, would obviously become a heavy burden under water. "And what about you, kelpie or mer... if you don't mind me asking." Letting her voice come off as welcoming as she could, she admired the male from a distance. Not just for his looks, but also for his ability to be in the water.
