Orpheus settled down next to his mate while his children surrounded them. His orange eyes were aglow with delight as his daughter positioned herself at the head of the family to begin story night. Which was a tradition for him to enthrall his family with a tale every Full and Void Moons. Tonight, however, he would be listening alongside the others. It always brought him great joy when one of his babies followed his creative flow. Umakanta laid his tail over his tiny mate while cuddling up with him. The blonde Kelpi was looking foward to his oldest daughter's first story night. Stories held special meaning for him as it was through overhearing one of his mate's tales that led to him falling in love. Jacinth looked at her fathers before shifting her gaze across the rest of her family. There was an inherent nervousness that jittered through her.
The Kelpi mare shifted into a comfortable position to mask said nervousness. She had grown up completely enraptured by her Seathi father's stories. They coursed through her as a child and gave to her a deep sense of imagination. For years she had worked on her own tales in her mind. Finally confident enough to share one, she had asked to be the story teller this night. The story was actually based in true events. Even if she'd be fabricating parts, the mare felt sure that the source was more than reliable. Especially given how he behaved when imparting the knowledge. She took a deep breath in before slowly exhaling out as she began.
"This happened not even a year past..." Instantly she could tell both her fathers were completely hooked in listening to her. This bolstered the Kelpi in a way as to any trepidation she was experiencing left her. "I followed the mouth of the mighty river far to the inlands. Whereby I came upon a lake. Next to the lake was a small herd beside a two-legged dwelling." Orpheus shifted forward causing his mate to grump. He knew exactly where she was talking as it had once been his home. His eyes became more alight with curiosity on top of the delight that was already there. "The herd was very welcoming and invited me to stay. I stayed with them for the week. One member of this herd was a giant of a Unicorn. His white body seemed to almost glow against his surroundings." A chuckled escaped the black Seathi as he pictured Genevre. He could definitely understand what she meant by he seemed to glow depending on the light. Jacinth paused slightly at the chuckle before pushing on.
"This white Unicorn introduced himself as Genevre or Gene for short. Gene ended up sharing a cautionary tale with the group." She paused again but this time for dramatic affect. Her reddish orange eyes scanned over her family noting that every one seemed to be wholly focused on her words. A smile crossed her face as she continued. "For him it started with a disembodied voice while out with his brother's mate... this voice had transported him to an unknown forest and challenged him to escape death by leaving in one piece." There was a quiet gasp from one of her siblings which spurred her into adding some flair to her voice. She was really getting into the story now. "Unknown to the voice, his sister-in-law was on him at the time. She was in a shrunken state due to being a Flutter. This fact may have helped them in their escape." Both Orpheus and Umakanta were enraptured by their daughter's tale. Even though her body language was hinting to Orpheus that she was beginning to drift from the truer bits of it. Embellishing just proved how into the story she was and made him even more proud of her.
"The woods the two had found themselves in was eerily quiet. There was little or no wind in the air. It was almost as if no one had lived here in ages. They slowly trudged through the underbrush. Pausing here and there to ensure they were not getting turned around. There was a small hope that the direction they had picked was the correct one for leaving this place... Eventually the Unicorn and Flutter came to a large wall of thorns. They could neither see it's top nor either of it's sides. Examining the wall closer, the small Flutter worked her way to the other side but barely managed to. Now they were each stuck on one side of the impassible wall." There were more vocal exclamations from her family at this point. "A strong wind picked up on the side with the Flutter," she continued dramatically.
"This wind kept the small mare from being able to fly and only happened any time she tried. Gene cursed at the voice or whatever entity was causing this distress to them. He stomped the ground angrily only to fall into a massive trap hole. His companion was distressed and calling out for him to check if he was alright. That was when the Unicorn realized that the hole actually went beneath the wall. It took longer than either would have like, but before long he managed to dig his way out from under the thorns on her side of them. Reunited they started trekking through the trees again." Orpheus had actually moved closer to Jacinth in his excitement at her tale. It was very well thought out for her first time telling one. Her own satisfaction at her story was palpable to him. "Once again the duo came upon a hardship. A seemingly bottomless chasm stretched out in front of them. This time instead of the Flutter trying to fly, Genevre simply bashed a mighty tree down to make them a bridge."
Jacinth paused again looking at her fathers while being pleased they were enjoying her version of this story. "The force of the tree falling practically sent the Flutter tumbling into the chasm. Fortunately the male caught her and rushed them both across the makeshift bridge before anything else could go wrong. In fact, he didn't slow down at all as he bolted across the forest floor. Soon the wind picked up as if trying to push them back in. This made Gene believe he was going the correct direction. The mare clung to inside his hair in her shrunken form. He was going much faster than before and she was barely able to hang out. It worked out for the best though as the white Unicorn streaked out from the tree line and into a clearing. They both tumbled to the ground panting in relief. After a moments break they returned to their hooves to quickly make it home..." Another momentary pause, "and make it home they did, fin~!" There was applause from some of her family and her fathers hugged her.
"You did great," Orpheus spoke. "I look forward to your next tale!" The Kelpi mare flushed in delight. She felt he was exaggerating how well she had done, but took the compliment anyway. Next time she hoped to have the story be more original to her.
