Well, recently in my communications class we did something that interested me. We looked at the different types of lovers. Now, before you run away I'd like to let you know that it is quite interesting. xD Here, take a look:
Passionate Love: Lovers of this type are often attracted to physical beauty. Immediate relational disclosure and physical intimacy is expected. When either relational disclosure or physical intimacy is withheld by a partner, these types of lovers quickly lose interest in the relationship and typically believe that the partner does not love them as much as they love their partner. Because lovers of this type have particular expectations of how a relationship should progress they experience intense emotional highs and lows.
Playful Love: Lovers of this type view love as a game. New relational partners are viewed as targets to be conquered. Because love is a game to these types of lovers, relationships which progress further than they want will be immediately terminated. Lovers of this variety enjoy action in relationships. Because they are very calculating, rarely do lovers of this type do things without a particular reason. It is common for playful lovers to have more than one lover at a time.
Companionate Love: Lovers of this type believe that love should evolve from a friendship. Lovers of this type believe that relational problems can be easily solved. Stability and predictability describe these types of lovers as well. Because love evolves, lovers of this variety let love grow naturally peacefully into a solid relationship. It is rarely problematic when these type of lovers are apart. Due to their ability to build solid relationships, these types of lovers are very sure of their relationships.
Realistic Love: Lovers of this type base their partnerships on practicality. That is, how practical is it to be in a particular relationship. If the relationship is no longer practical, e.g., their partner moves to another state to go to school, then the relationship is likely to be terminated. Because lovers this type are concerned with practicality, these lovers are concerned with compatibility. If compatibility is not apparent these types of lovers will abandon potential partnerships. Newly forming relationships with these types of lover are similar to being on a job interview.
Obsessive Love: Lovers of this type are manipulative and jealous lovers. It is important for lovers of this type to believe that they are the center of their partner's world. For these lovers, love is like a drug addiction, with their partner being the drug. If a partner denies attention to an obsessive lover, the obsessive lover will take actions to regain attention. An obsessive lover seeks to spend all of their time with their partner. Because being involved with an obsessive lover requires a lot of attention, these lovers often through multiple lovers until they find another obsessive lover.
Altruistic Love: Lovers of this type are often described as being unselfish and kind. Wanting to make their partner happy, these types of lovers are often willing to do whatever their partner wants as long as it avoids conflict. It is rare for these types of lovers to take initiative in a relationship. Preferring to make sure that their partner supports a particular activity before they engage in it, these of lovers often take the "wait and see" approach to their relationships.
Pretty nifty, I think. I'd have to say that I'll probably be a mixture of a companionate, realistic, and altruistic lover. At least I'd like to think that I'll be altruistic, lawl. xD
