Heaven?s Underground
Christian shivered and wrapped her auburn wings tightly around her. It was to be a long wait this time. Looking back at how it all began she wondered how she had ended up here at the front lines of a war that would never be known by the human world, nor would they care. Sure, she knew how it had happened, she had died. That was all the Archangels needed to know. She was not a resurrection, not poured into a new life, yet still she lived and retained all the memories of her old one. What had they called her in the beginning? A half-light, yes that was it. Not mortal or immortal, not dead yet alive, a cross between angel and human. Christian was one of many such crosses in nature, something the Lord had created for the sole purpose of the planets survival. Of course Christian knew she had already accepted the post as a halflight when she had been a full angel, but that was before she had lived on earth as a human. She had no memory of that time, and guessed that it was probably a good thing she didn?t. Normal angels, as she had found out to her shock, were extremely innocent. They viewed the suffering on earth as unbearable to watch. Only guardian, arch, and half-light angels were able to walk among the wreckage and not fall into complete despair. Christian watched as the morning Zafrire sped across the sky, casting color everywhere. She smiled, as a half-light she was privy to some of the most beautiful sights in the world; such as the dance of the morning spirits bringing up the dawn. Humans took it for granted that their sun rose and set each day. They did not take it into consideration that someone had painstakingly chosen its colors for it. The number of arts and works that were inspired by the beauty of it was thanks enough though. Christian sighed deeply and smiled bitterly, a great example of calm before the storm, a silly human expression, but correct. Suddenly the warning shouts came from below the acropolis' standing. Christian furrowed her brows and bowed her weary head. ?It has begun.?
