Why are there so many words in every language that basically mean the same thing?
Like, I could call my moms mom:
Moms mom
Grandmother
Grandma
Grams
Me ma (however you spell it)
Granny
Or a deal of other names!
With all these words it's a wonder anyone can learn a language other than their native tongue!! Not to mention some words are proper that would normally be spoken by higher class, old school which only the older people use, or..... gonk
I just don't see the point in having some huge word that most people have never even heard of when there are simpler ones which mean the same thing that everyone knows!
